A father in Michigan is accused of forcing his son to strip at gunpoint, marching him to a vacant lot, and shooting him to death after learning the 15-year-old had inappropriate sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl.
The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, said her son had told her about the sexual contact. "I called and told his father. This isn't something you sweep under the rug," she said. Then, she said, Jamar Pinkney Sr arrived at their home with a gun, ordered his son to strip, and marched him outside despite her protests. She said her son also protested, "He got on his knees and begged 'No, Daddy, no,' and he pulled the trigger."
Corbett O'Meara, the defense attorney for Pinkney, has said that prosecutors should keep in mind the father's state of mind over the sex abuse allegation. "If something were to happen that would cause a reasonable person to lose control of himself, that is something the prosecution would have to take into account."
The shooting took place in a vacant lot of Highland Park, a once-prosperous city of 16,000 which has now been left to decay, abandonment, and demolition. "This is something that's hard to deal with for all the parties concerned, including the police," Chief Ted Caldwell said. "Highland Park is a small city. These are people who have been members of the community for years."
Pinkney has entered a not guilty plea, and is being held without bond until a preliminary hearing on December 1.

I am not sure what I would do as a parent if my 15 yr old Son sexually abused a little girl. I would like to think I would have him committed not kill him.

It makes me wonder what the family dynamics were long before this happened? Was the father physically and verbally abusive? What was his relationship with his son? Are there any other children? What is his relationship w/his wife? Does the father have a record?

So many questions!

Lazette Cherry wanted only to help her son, Jamar Pinkney Jr., when she called his father, and shared some of the most disturbing news she ever had heard.

Jamar, 15, had confessed to her that he had inappropriate contact with his 3-year-old half-sister in his father's home on Newport on Detroit's east side.

"I called and told his father this isn't something you sweep under the rug," Cherry said Wednesday.

Jamar Pinkney Sr. showed up at Cherry's house in Highland Park on Monday afternoon with a gun, she said.

"He started beating him right here," Cherry said from her living room. "I said, 'No, please stop!' "

But the father marched Jamar, a sophomore at King High School, outside.

“He got on his knees and begged, ‘No, Daddy! No!’ and he pulled the trigger,” Cherry said from her home on North Street in Highland Park. “There wasn’t nothing that my son wouldn’t do for his father. He loved his father so much.”

Jamar was shot once in the head.

Cherry said the 3-year-old's mother took the girl to a hospital to be examined Sunday. But she said her son claimed he didn't rape the little girl and kept his clothes on.

The exam showed no physical evidence of sexual trauma, Cherry said. Still, she added, he knew he was wrong.

"He told because he knew it wasn't right," she said.

Detroit police spokesman John Roach said Wednesday that the department does not have any record of the family or local facilities reporting a sexual assault involving a little girl at Pinkney's home in the 5700 block of Newport.

Highland Park Detective LaNesha Jones, lead investigator on the case, said Wednesday that she's checking out the family's claims that the girl was taken to Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit to be examined for signs of sexual abuse.

Medical care providers are required to report allegations of sexual abuse to local police and social service agencies.

"If that did occur and they didn't, that's going to be an issue in and of itself," Jones said.

This is out of control here - what kind of response is this from a father to a son? The father sounds like he is crazy. I dont understand this - but I dont understand anything I guess anymore

The world needs more parents who take strong action in situations such as this, but killing his son is way over board. We seem to go from one extreme to the other. The ants deny their daughter killed, and protect her. This man kills his son for an inappropriate contact. Will society every get its right steps right?

A Father kills his 15 year old son...but why? Did the father have a reason? Was the 15 year old son out of control? Whenever we hear about fathers and mothers harming their own sons and daughters, it disturbs us. The reason that the father killed his own 15 year old son, however, is

Understandably, the father grew irate and despite pleadings from the boy and his mother he made him strip down, walk to a vacant lot, and shot him execution style.

Taking another person's life is never acceptable. Then again, sexually molesting a toddler is not acceptable either. However, the father took the law into his own hands and executed his very own son.

There's debate stemming over the way the father handled the situation. Some people think that what the father did was right; the sin was far too horrific, and allowing the boy to live would put other innocent young girls in danger. Others think that no matter what, the boy should have been prosecuted through the legal system.

I don't think that the father should have killed his son under any circumstances. If the father was that irate, he should have walked away from the situation, discussed it with the police, and let them handle it.

The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, called and told the boy's dad about the improper sexual contact with the baby girl. The father arrived at the home with a gun and proceeded to kill his own 15 year old son.

This is yet another tragic tale involving a young child's death. Recently, Shaniya Davis was found dead along a North Carolina highway. A month or so ago, Elizabeth Olten was shot and killed by Alyssa Bustamante just because the killer wanted to feel what it was like to kill someone. Before that, Somer Thompson was found in a garbage dump in Georgia after a frantic search for the missing child. Now, a father killed a 15 year old son.

Prosecutors will likely keep the father's state of mind in light of the news his son molested a toddler. Of course, that doesn't mean that the father will get away with murder.

It breaks my heart that the Father dealt this punishment on his son. Those who support his actions haven't stopped to consider that the molested child will now grow up without the benefit of a Father in her life. His act of punishment of the son deprived so many and will forever cause sorrow for this family. From what I have read, the Father didn't know exactly WHAT had taken place. This boy obviously needed help, and his admission of wrong doing certainly would indicate that he was reaching out for that help.

I still want to know this family dynamics. Was the father abusive to his son? To his wife? Does he or did he have anger issues? (Seems so!) Had the police ever been to their home on DV calls? Does the father have a record?

There HAS to be more to this than meets the eye. Their are things we don't know yet. I think this man is crazy!

Jamar's great-grandmother, Edwenia Cuspart, earlier told the Free Press that the teen didn't like sharing a home with his father and the mother of the 3-year-old. Cuspart said Jamar begged her to allow him to live with her.

I wonder why the boy wasn't living with his mother. She's the one that called the father to tell him about the abuse.

Jamar Pinkney Sr. is accused of first-degree murder in the shooting of his son Jamar Pinkney Jr. in November, WDIV-TV, Detroit, reported Wednesday.

Relatives say Pinkney Sr., 37, arrived at the teenager's mother's house, forced Pinkney Jr. to strip naked, pushed him into a nearby vacant lot and shot him while the boy and relatives pleaded for mercy, the station reported.

Pinkney defense attorney Corbett O'Meara said the family had been meeting to discuss the alleged assault incident constructively when Pinkney allegedly snapped.

The teen's mother, Lazette Cherry, said nothing anyone said to Pinkney Sr. had any effect on his apparent rage against their son.

"I was like, 'Jamar, stop, don't do this.' He was like, '(expletive) you can get some, too,'" Cherry said. "He started hitting me."

O'Meara says he is pursuing an insanity defense, WDIV-TV said. The trial is set for March 2010.

Pinkney To Undergo Evaluation Before Murder Trial

Highland Park (WWJ) -- Jamar Pinkney Senior will undergo a psychiatric evaluation by court order before his trial for last month's shooting death of his 15-year-old son, Jamar Pinkney Junior.

The 37-year-old postal worker is accused of taking the boy outside in a field, where he would be forced to strip before he was shot to death execution style. Witnesses say the elder Pinkney became enraged after learning the boy had sexual contact with his three year old sister.

At Tuesday morning's arraignment in Wayne County Circuit Court, family members sobbed softly as the elder Pinkney was led into the courtroom before Judge Brian Sullivan. An psychiatric evaluation of Pinkney was ordered at the Ypsilanti forensic center, a process that is expected to take up to 60 days. The senior Pinkley's attorneys had earlier indicated they would pursue an insanity defense for their client.

Defense attorney David Draper says his client "snapped" at a situation "he could not respond to appropriately" and responded in an alleged "manner that was inappropriate in society."

"This can either result in one of two things -- he's either found not guilty by reason of insanity or criminal insanity, or a mitigating factor, taking first degree murder to to a level of manslaughter," Draper said.

Draper says his client has been devastated. "He's under a doctor's care now, he's receiving medication to help him deal with the depression and the obvious that would result after something like this would happen," he said.

As in previous court hearings, relatives of the victim were in court wearing T-shirts with the child's picture, reading "R.I.P. Jamar Pinkney , Jr." Relatives of the senior Pinkney declined comment following Tuesday's hearing.

The defense told the court they would subpoena the Highland Park Police 9-1-1 tapes.

I can understand a father snapping after his three year old was abused sexually, but to strip his own son naked and shoot him execution style? This case has floored me. I have known someone that was sexually abused by her brother, she hated him and wanted him dead, but not to the extent that she wanted her father to kill her brother and then have that guilt on her shoulders, too. This family has been destroyed.

Could have snapped because he was sexually abused as a child?

Jamar Pinkney, Sr. was found guilty of executing his fifteen-year-old son, Jamar Pinkney, Jr. The 38-year-old father was sentenced to 37-82 years in prison and will be 75 years old at his earliest possible release from prison. His story is one of the many tragic stories of life on the wilding streets of Detroit.

I have to wonder if that poor little 3 year old witnessed this killing in cold blood as well as being sexually abused. I hope she is away from that house and with people who are loving and kind. And, I hope she is undergoing a lot of counseling.

To me suspicion surrounds this case.I watched the trial on In-Session to much is unanswered, first of all Jamar Jr. admitted to being inappropriate with his clothes on, hospital records show that she was not sexually assaulted, he knew what he had done was very wrong so he confessed. (What is going on in his life that would make him even attempt such an act). The little girl will forever be scared by this tragedy in more ways than one and the mother will feel at fault for involving the father. Jamar Sr. should have recieved the death penalty if it is offered in that state. Because I believe the act was premeditated, what father goes to a child asking for help with a loaded gun. During the trial he was as cold hearted as hell. To me this situation was not conducted like adults getting together to discuss how to help Jamar Jr. and getting help for the 3year old it seemed more of an altimatum from the mother of the little girl to chose how Jamar Sr. would handle the problem. Instead of him making the phone call to her and telling her it was over he had killed his son, his first call should have been some professional to help his son. There can be alot of drama between two women with kids for the same man. The mother of the girl was not very convincing at the trial as if she had something to hide. There are so many victims in this case, but one thing is sure Jamar Sr. is wrong and should never see daylight again. I have a son, and if he would have done this, I could see his father beating him out of anger and getting help to see what led to this, but killing him!!!There would have been 2 funerals because he would have to unload some of those bullets on me I would not stand by and let it happen.35-82years living on the tax-payers money someone should take him out in the prison yard naked and end it execution style
