Salem, OR Woman, Brittney Caudle, 22, abducted by man, 50-year-old Mickey Jarrell, she met online
SALEM, Ore. - A 22-year-old woman says her ex-boyfriend tied her up, locked her in his trunk and wanted their terrifying road trip to make national news.
Now the young woman who survived the kidnapping is speaking out about the man she first met online three months ago.
Brittney Caudle, 22, is in the Oregon Army National Guard. She believes her training helped her stay calm during the 6 hour ordeal Monday.
Caudle recently broke up with because he became controlling. She says he told her he was out of town so she went to his Salem home Monday morning to get her belongings.
It was a trap. Investigators say Jarrell was hiding in the home and attacked Caudle. "When he couldn't get me he duct taped my face completely around my nose and eyes until I passed out," says Caudle.
He tied her hands and feet and put her in the back of her own car. Caudle says he drove her to a nearby mall where he had his own car ready to go and put her in the trunk.
She says Jarrell pulled over in Woodburn and moved her to the front seat where he rigged the car to padlock her hands and legs. "And he told me if I tried to sit up and say something to people around us that he was going to slit my throat." Jarrell also had a gun.
Jarrell drove them to the Dalles where Caudle promised to get back together with him if he would let her go. "He believed me. He believed it," says Caudle.
He drove them all the way back to the strip mall in Salem to get her car. "I got all the bullets out of his gun but one because he was threatening to commit suicide but he was threatening to take cops down with him."
Caudle promised to follow him home, but she didn't. She stopped at a business and called 911.
When deputies arrived at Jarrell's home he started backing out the garage. Investigators ordered him out of the car and that's when he turned the gun on himself committing suicide.
Investigators believe Jarrell may also be responsible for a string of robberies at local stores.

Re: Salem, OR Woman, Brittney Caudle, 22, abducted by man, 50-year-old Mickey Jarrell, she met online
The ex-girlfriend of a Salem man was able to talk her way out of a violent kidnapping and safely escape before her tormentor shot himself in the head in front of police Monday, according to Marion County deputies.
Around 10:30 a.m., 22-year-old Brittany Caudle said she went to the home of 50-year-old Mickey Jarrell to get some of her belongings after they had broken off their relationship several days prior. Jarrell had told Caudle over the phone he would not be at home when she got there.
Caudle told deputies when she showed up, Jarrell came out of hiding in the garage, attacked her and bound her with duct tape until she passed out. He then put her into her car and left the home.
At one point, Caudle told deputies she was able to free herself and conceal a screwdriver she had found in the car. Jarrell stopped and bound her with zip ties, before continuing on to a strip mall, where Jarrell padlocked the victim inside his truck, concealing her with blankets and pillows. He also threw her cell phone in some brush, police said.
While bound, Caudle told investigators during the drive from Woodburn to The Dalles on I-84, Jarrell confessed to several robberies at Woodburn Outlet stores and that he had also recently been trying to make bombs.
Deputies said along the way, Caudle talked Jarrell into releasing her and turning back to Salem when she said she would stay with him. During that part of the trip, Jarrell also had Caudle take four rounds out of a revolver in the truck, but to leave one bullet for himself in case of a run-in with police, where he planned to take his life.
"I said 'you don't kill me, you untie me and we'll go back and do whatever you want, we'll be Bonnie and Clyde.'" Caudle told KGW.
Caudle said she then convinced Jarrell to let her get her car where it had been left in the strip mall lot. She was instructed to follow him back home and began to do so, before sharply turning around where she called for help at a fabric store on Center Street.
After her call, police went to Jarrel's house where they stopped his truck backing out of the garage. Deputies said Jarrell came out with the gun to his head, and refused commands to drop it, before fatally shooting himself. No rounds were fired by officers.
Caudle was treated for her injuries at a nearby hospital.
"I cared about him so I didn't want him dead. Even after everything he did, I didn't want him to kill himself," she added.
Police bomb squads later cleared Jarrell's home.
Detectives said they were interested in talking to any witnesses in the parking lot near Target/Cold Stone Creamery at the time.

28 year age difference?
x-boyfriend?
why did she remain a kidnap victim if she had possession of the gun long enough to remove bullets?
How did she know that the one bullet she left in the gun wouldn't get used on her?
strange? i think so.

I saw Brittany on the local news tonight. There were marks on her ankles from the zip ties. And then this (below) happened...... So, he must have thought that he was going to be arrested when the police showed up.
After officers heard her story, a deputy headed to Jarrell's residence and found the man backing his vehicle out of the garage. Lorance says Jarrell got out, put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

I have to agree w/NiteSpinner. There are a lot of unanswered questions in this scenario.
I think my first question would be: "Why in God's name would you want to be with a man 28 years older than you?" :jaw dropping:
