Double homicide latest major crime in Bandon area (Coos County, OR)

A double homicide discovered in Bandon is the latest in a disturbing string of violent crimes in this rural south-coast community, and it not only has police working overtime, it has residents wondering just what the heck is going on in the normally quiet area.

The bodies of a man and woman were found Wednesday after a caller phoned authorities about a suspicious vehicle parked in Coquille, about 15 miles from Bandon.

The truck wasn't illegally parked and didn't come up as stolen on police computers. But the officer who investigated asked the Coos County Sheriff's Department to visit the homeowner it was registered to in Bandon, said Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels.

There, at a home along Oregon 42S, an officer discovered two victims: Robin Lynn Anstey, 62 and Robert William Kennelly Jr., 48. Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier didn't say how the couple died, only that they lived together and died of "homicidal violence."

Now, police are looking for Anstey's son, Gabriel Morris, 34. They say he is extremely dangerous and armed, and probably traveling with his wife, Jessica, and child, Kalea, 4.

Frasier filed two counts of aggravated murder against Gabriel Morris Thursday afternoon.

"What I am concerned about is that he is going to harm an innocent person, either a police officer or a person who crosses his path," said Dannels. "It's a total picture of concern; the wife and child, too."

Morris was reportedly last seen Monday night and is believed to be driving a silver Ford Taurus with Oregon license plates YRK052.

Police are asking for the public's help in tracking a murder suspect and his wife, tied to a double homicide Wednesday near Bandon.

A deputy found the bodies of a man and woman at a home at 90984 Highway 42 South, about six miles east of Bandon early Wednesday afternoon, a Coos County District Attorney's Office press release said. Investigators have not released their identities.

The home is owned by Robert W. Kennelly Jr., according to Coos County Assessor's Office records.

The suspect is identified as Gabriel C. Morris, 33 or 34, who was accompanied by his wife, Jessica Morris, also 33 or 34, and the couple's 4-year-old daughter. Police said the couple was driving a silver Ford Taurus, license number YRK052.

The couple was last seen at 9:30 p.m. Monday driving the car in Coquille, according to Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier.

Gabriel Morris is reported to be armed with two handguns. The couple has friends and family in Idaho, Portland, Salem, Seattle and San Diego.

"Your guess is as good as mine which way they went," Frasier said this morning.

The county put out a nationwide bulletin for the couple and their daughter, who apparently was with them Monday.

Frasier said he considers Jessica Morris a material witness in the case. Evidence at the scene indicated Gabriel Morris may have been responsible for the slayings, which likely occurred Monday night.

Jessica Morris was a volunteer with the Women's Safety & Resource Center, Frasier said.

She recently was helping set up a fundraiser for the organization last weekend in Bandon, but hadn't gotten out publicity about the event, which was cancelled.

The Morrises had moved from Idaho to the Bandon area about two months ago and were living with his mother, Robin Anstey and Kennelly, Anstey's boyfriend, according to Mary Ann Donaldson, who works at Bandon Bookkeeping.

Jessica Morris has been an employee at the business for about two months.

Donaldson said Morris is a "vivacious, outgoing, intelligent and really sweet person who also appeared to be a great mother."

Last week, Morris called in sick, and she hasn't been heard from since.

"We were worried about her," Donaldson said. "She just disappeared. She was really a great, reliable worker and we really liked her. We're really concerned about her and her daughter's safety now. She may be endangered herself."

Frasier said the Morrises had moved from Blackfoot, Idaho, home to the area for Gabriel Morris to declare bankruptcy and resolve debt problems.

A Coos County sheriff's deputy found the bodies after investigating a complaint about an abandoned pickup. A Coquille man reported the pickup had been blocking his parking spot for several days. The deputy traced the vehicle to the Highway 42 South home. When he arrived, he found the bodies at the house.

"We have not positively identified these people," Frasier said. "We still have questions who the female is."

Frasier was not sure the bodies had been removed from the house as of this morning.

Investigators "won't speculate on cause of death until the autopsy," Frasier said.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Armed, dangerous - and in danger: Concern grows for suspect's wife, child

Post by Nama Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:13 am

As police continue their hunt for their suspect in the double homicide in Bandon, concern for his wife and child continues to grow.

Gabriel Morris was last seen Monday night at about 9:30 p.m. with his wife Jessica and 4-year-old daughter.

Two days later, police labeled him as armed and dangerous -- and his family as possibly endangered.

The sudden disappearance of his wife Jessica caused concern among co-workers at Bandon Bookkeeping -- and with the Women's Safety and Resource Center in Coos Bay.

Jessic Morris had come to them in December with an idea for a fundraiser in Bandon which was to take place last Saturday.

But the week beforehand, all communication -- by phone or e-mail -- had stopped, and the event was cancelled.

"She did not seem like someone who would just disappear," said Judy Moody, executive director at the Women's Safety and Resource Center. "We were pretty concerned, quite frankly, about that -- that she just, all of a sudden, wasn't in contact with us."

Moody said that Morris was completely engaged in pulling off this fundraiser, one that she said did not involve any exchange of money with Morris.

Moody said her concern right now is for the safety of Jessica and the couple's young child.

"It was just too bizarre, her disappearance was just too not like what I had experienced with her in my conversations with her on the phone," she said.

Police said the Morris' are believed to have been travelling in a silver Ford Taurus, Oregon license number YRK 052. DMV records show the vehicle is a 2002.

Law enforcement said Gabriel Morris returned to the area within the last two months after living in Blackfoot, Idaho. Morris is believed to be armed with two handguns and should be considered armed and dangerous, Frasier said.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty "Bizarre" disappearance of Jessica Morris is cause for concern

Post by Nama Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:15 am

With her husband the main suspect in a double homicide in Bandon, those who have worked with Jessica Morris, at her job or on a fundraiser, say they are concerned for her safety.

33-year old Gabriel Morris was last seen with his wife and their four year old child at about 9:30 p.m. Monday night, February 8th. That's the same night police believe he killed a man and woman in Bandon.

34-year old Jessica Morris and the child are now considered to be endangered themselves, even though police believe she could also be driving the vehicle they were last seen with.

For folks who have come to know Jessica in recent months, the sudden disappearance is definitely cause for concern.

Judy Moody, Executive Director of the Women's Safety and Resource Center in Coos Bay, says Jessica Morris had come to them in December with the idea of doing a fundraiser lunch to coincide with the Super Bowl. It was an event, to be titled Soup Bowl I, she was very excited about, according to Moody.

But, the event never took place because all contact with Morris was lost about a week or so beforehand. Moody said she did not seem like someone who would just disappear, "we were pretty concerned, quite frankly, about that...that she just, all of a sudden, wasn't in contact with us."

Especially, she says, because Morris was completely "engaged" in the project and had been in e-mail and phone contact with the WSRC often.

They were contacted February 5th by Morris' employer in Bandon, Bandon Bookkeeping, after she had called in sick on February 1st, but didn't call back or show up for the rest of that week. Moody says they then contacted the Coos County Sheriff's Office out of concern.

"It was just too bizarre, her disappearance was just too...not like what I had experienced with her in my conversations with her on the phone."

And Moody adds that, although suspicions can run wild in these situations, she wanted to stress that the fundraiser Morris was working on did not include any money in any way changing hands with Morris.

In fact, she said, Morris was going to contribute her own money towards the luncheon in Bandon, for plastic dinner plates and cups, just to help raise funds for the WSRC.

Police say the Morris family was last seen in a Silver Ford Taurus, with Oregon plates YRK 052.

Again, Gabriel Morris is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Frasier said Gabriel and Jessica Morris moved to Coos County a few months ago after living in Blackfoot, Idaho, Jessica's hometown. Frasier said the Morrises were "up to their eyebrows" in credit card debt and returned to Gabriel's home state with a plan to declare bankruptcy.
It was not immediately known if Gabriel found work in Oregon, but Jessica got a job with Bandon Bookkeeping. She worked there for about two months, but stopped coming in about two weeks ago, said a co-worker, Mary Ann Donaldson.

Police say fugitive is dangerous

Police are seeking the son of Robin Anstey, right, in connection with her slaying and the killing of her boyfriend, Robert Kennelly Jr., Monday night in their Bandon-area home. Police say suspect Gabriel Morris was last seen Monday night in Coquille.

Feb 11: Police seek double homicide suspect
Feb 11: Police investigate double homicide
Prosecutors have filed two counts of aggravated murder against 33-year-old Gabriel Christian Morris in the killings of his mother and her boyfriend. Police agencies nationwide are on the lookout for Morris and his family, who disappeared Monday night.

In a press release Thursday night, Coos CountyDistrict Attorney R. Paul Frasier confirmed the identification of two people whose bodies a sheriff's deputy found Wednesday at a house on Highway 42 South near Bandon. Police believe they had been dead for three days.

The victims were Robert William Kennelly Jr., 48, who owned the house, and his live-in girlfriend Robin Lynn Anstey, 62, who was Gabriel Morris' mother. The Morrises reportedly lived there as well.

The slayings occurred between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Monday, Frasier said. Without an autopsy report, however, he wouldn't describe how the couple died.

Police released a photo Thursday night of a grinning Gabriel Morris standing close to his brown-haired wife, Jessica Morris, and holding the couple's smiling daughter, who has curly red hair. Jessica Morris and 4-year-old Kalea are missing.

Police think Gabriel Morris has two handguns.

"Gabriel Morris is to be considered armed and dangerous," Frasier wrote in a press release. "If he, Jessica Morris, their child or the automobile is located, citizens are strongly cautioned that they should not approach them or the car and should immediately call 911."

The Morrises were last seen around 9:30 p.m. Monday in Coquille in a silver Ford Taurus, license plate number YRK 052, with Jessica Morris in the driver's seat.

Jessica Morris had worked at Bandon Bookkeeping for about two months, after the couple moved to the area for Gabriel Morris to resolve a bankruptcy and debt troubles. A coworker said Jessica Morris called in sick last week and hadn't been back to work. A coworker said a Coos County sheriff's detective went to the business on Feb. 5 and was interviewing staff members about Jessica's whereabouts.

During her time in the area, Jessica Morris organized a fundraiser for the Women's Safety & Resource Center, said Executive Director Judy Moody.

"She was very enthusiastic and engaged in the process of creating this fundraiser," Moody said, recalling phone calls and e-mails she had shared with the woman since Dec. 7.

The Soup Bowl I event, a luncheon fundraiser meant to be held a day before the Super Bowl, never happened. Moody noted that Jessica Morris never collected monetary donations for the center and had planned to buy bowls and spoons with her own money.

Several days before the event, the center's volunteer coordinator tried to contact Jessica Morris but had no luck. On Feb. 5, her coworkers called to ask if center staff members had seen her. Center employees then called the sheriff's office.

"I'm just concerned about her welfare and the welfare of her child," Moody said. She doesn't think the woman was involved in the crime. "That just doesn't fit."

Moody never met Jessica Morris' husband.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Police issue a warrant for wife

Post by Nama Sat Feb 13, 2010 3:01 am

Officials have issued a material witness warrant for Jessica Morris, the wife of a 33-year-old man suspected of killing his mother and her boyfriend.

Police think she was present when Robert William Kennelly Jr., and Robin Lynn Anstey died Monday at their home outside Bandon.

Prosecutors previously filed murder charges against Morris’ husband, Gabriel Christian Morris. Police are still searching for the couple and their 4-year-old daughter, Kalea, who are believed to be using a silver Ford Taurus, according to a press release.

Oregon State Police detectives from Central Point, Roseburg and Coos Bay have joined officers from local agencies in searching for the family.

Gabriel Morris is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees a member of the Morris family is asked to call 911 immediately.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty DA: Shooting suspect seen in Arizona

Post by Nama Mon Feb 15, 2010 12:50 am

Police believe the man suspected of killing his mother and her boyfriend has fled to Arizona and may be trying to seek shelter with family he has in Louisiana or Florida.

Officials in Mesa, Ariz., have surveillance tape of Gabriel Morris, his wife, Jessica Morris, and their 4-year-old daughter at a business Wednesday evening, according to a press release. Police also say they have evidence that the family was in San Diego earlier that day.

"Given that it appears that Morris was moving in an easterly direction at least on Wednesday, the possibility exists that he may be headed to Louisiana and/or Florida," said Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the case after a federal warrant was issued for Gabriel Morris on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The National Center for Missing and Endangered Children has sent a poster with information about Kalea, the 4 year old, across the country to help the search, a press release said. The poster is available at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Has any motive for the killings been released?
It is so frightening that he has his wife and child with him. I hate to think what might happen if he is cornered with his wife and daughter. I just can't imagine her being willing to flee with him.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Family pleas for help with Morris case

Post by Nama Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:50 pm

The parents of Gabriel Morris' wife are speaking out.

"She loves her husband. I know she does or she wouldn't be with him. But I don't think she knows what he did. And our baby granddaughter is in the middle of it, and I'm afraid we won't see her again," said Rita Pope, Jessica's mother.

Jessica's husband, Gabriel Morris, is accused of killing his mother and her live-in boyfriend in Bandon, Oregon.

Gabriel and Jessica and their four-year-old daughter Kalea had been living with Morris' mother.

Now they've disappeared.

The Popes last talked to their daughter one week before the homicides.

"I asked her if she was alright and she said that she was alright, but I could tell in her voice that things weren't right," said Bill Pope, Jessica's father.

The Popes say Gabriel had threatened his mother with violence before.

"If Gabe did this to his mother, I'm sure that he didn't tell Jessica that he did it. I'm sure that he told her somebody else did it to my mom and they're coming after us and we've got to get out of here," said Rita.

Shortly after the homicides Jessica called the accounting firm in Bandon where she worked.

She told them she wasn't coming in that day, and might never come in again.

Now all the Popes want is the safety of their daughter and granddaughter.

"Kalea just barely turned four two months ago. She's still a baby," said Rita.

The Morris family was last seen in Mesa, Arizona.

They're thought to be heading east toward Florida, where Gabriel has a brother.

We're hoping our affiliates down south will pick this story up and ask people to be on the lookout.

If you have any information that may help investigators, contact Idaho State Police at (208) 884-7000.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty long history of bad blood between Gabriel and his mother

Post by Nama Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:23 am

There was a long history of bad blood between Gabriel and his mother, he said. Pope last spoke to Jessica about a week before the murder while he and his wife, Rita, were on vacation.
During the conversation, his son-in-law berated him for calling Anstey and for “butting into his business.”
When Bill and Rita Pope returned to Blackfoot, he said police notified him regarding the homicide and said that he too could be in danger.
“Our first concern was for the safety of Jessica and Kalea,” Bill said. “We know that Gabriel borrowed a car and money from a friend.”
The couple is believed to be heading to Florida where Gabriel has a brother. The family was last seen in Mesa, Ariz., on Thursday.
Pope said Gabriel had difficulty holding a job and has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
“(Jessica) wanted to rehabilitate him,” Pope said. “She is a very special person and she’s helped a lot of people, she thinks she can help him.”
Jessica is a former volunteer for the Bingham Women’s Crisis Center.
Pope is hopeful that Jessica, or someone who knows her, will see the story and alert her to the danger she and Kalea are in.
“I want to tell Jessica to take Kalea and go to the police,” Pope said. “Seek protection and get away from Gabe.”
Pope said he believes Morris may use threats against Kalea to keep Jessica from going to the authorities.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Morris once worked as a sheriff’s deputy in eastern Idaho

Post by Nama Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:25 am

Authorities say a man suspected of fatally shooting his mother and her boyfriend in Bandon last week once worked as a sheriff’s deputy in eastern Idaho.

Bingham County Sheriff Dave Johnson tells the Morning News in Blackfoot for a story Tuesday that Gabriel Morris was a patrol deputy from 2005 until 2007.

The paper says Morris quit, then took a job at Gold’s Gym in Blackfoot where he worked for a year. He then worked as an insurance broker until he moved with his wife and daughter to Oregon several months ago.

COQUILLE, Ore. (CBS/AP) Oregon police say Gabriel Morris shot his mother and her partner to death and has since taken his wife Jessica and their 4-year-old daughter Kalea on the run.

It's not clear if Jessica Morris is helping or hostage.

"She loves her husband. I know she does or she wouldn't be with him," Jessica Morris' mother Rita Pope told KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls, Idaho. "But I don't think she knows what he did. And our baby granddaughter is in the middle of it, and I'm afraid we won't see her again."

Gabriel Morris, who once worked as a sheriff's deputy in Idaho, was spotted Wednesday evening at a business in Mesa, Ariz., after police had tracked him to San Diego.

The district attorney said surveillance video showed the family in their silver Ford Taurus.

Because Morris was moving east, authorities said he may be headed to Louisiana or Florida, where he has family.

Coos County prosecutors have filed two counts of aggravated murder against Morris in the shooting deaths of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey, 62, and her boyfriend, Robert William Kennelly Jr., 48, whose bodies were found last Wednesday at Kennelly's house near the town of Bandon, about three hours south of Eugene.

The Morrises reportedly lived there as well. The couple likely died the night of Feb. 8.

The World newspaper in Coos Bay reported the FBI has joined the case and a federal fugitive warrant has been issued for Morris.

Police nationwide are on the lookout for Morris, who police believe shot and killed his mother, Robin L. Anstey, 62, and her boyfriend Robert W. Kennelly Jr., 48, on Feb. 8 near Bandon.

Anstey owned Hidden Treasures, a framing and antiques shop in Bandon with her ex-husband. They sold it about six months ago when the couple got divorced and Anstey and Kennelly got together, according to friends. A sheriff’s deputy found Anstey and Kennelly’s bodies Feb. 10 at Kennelly’s house at 90984 Highway 42 South, about six miles east of town. The Morrises reportedly lived there as well after moving to Bandon a few months ago from Blackfoot, Idaho.

On Saturday, medical examiners determined the couple died from multiple gunshot wounds. Coos County prosecutors have filed two counts of aggravated murder against Morris. State courts also issued a warrant for his wife, Jessica Morris, as a material witness to the killings. Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said he does not believe she is being held hostage.

A surveillance camera recorded the Morrises and their 4-year-old daughter, Kalea, outside a store in Mesa, Ariz., on Feb. 10. Police have reported no newer reports of the family traveling in a silver Ford Taurus. Referring to the surveillance video, Frasier said Gabriel Morris got out of the Taurus and went into a business, while his wife drove around and then came back and picked him up.

“I do not believe, based on that, that she is being held as a hostage,” Frasier said. They could be going anywhere, but it’s possible the Morrises are heading toward Louisiana and Florida, where Gabriel Morris has a former stepfather and half brother. Frasier said at least one, if not both, have been told that Morris is wanted by police.

Mexico is also a possibility. Investigators have notified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to watch for the family.

“If they were going to cross the border, they could’ve done it in San Diego,” Frasier said.

Police had tracked the couple early Feb. 10 to San Diego.

“They could be headed north or south, or backtrack I suppose,” he said.

The TV show “America’s Most Wanted” posted a fugitive notice for Gabriel Morris on its Web site, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on Monday and may squeeze in information on the double homicide case into its broadcast Saturday. “It gives us nationwide coverage of this situation,” Frasier said. “We welcome all the help we can get.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation joined the case and a federal warrant has been issued for Gabriel Morris on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The National Center for Missing and Endangered Children also has joined in the search. It sent a poster with information about Kaela, the 4-year-old, across the country. The poster is available at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

In addition to working with other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the DA said he’s sent photos and press releases to media outlets in Louisiana and Florida, and gave several interviews on Monday.

Frasier, who has never worked with “America’s Most Wanted” before, said he hopes the show will help to capture Morris. If arrested, he’ll be held on $5 million bail.

“We’ll take every bit of help we can find,” Frasier said.

Police say Morris is armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Coos County Sheriff’s Office at 541-396-3121, ext. 373.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Victims were known in town

Post by Nama Thu Feb 18, 2010 2:54 pm

It’s hard for people who knew him to believe Gabriel Morris might have murdered his own mother.

He’s a nice guy, friends say. His wife, Jessica, who is not a suspect, but considered a material witness to the crime, is a sweet person who touched the lives of those around her. She is from a devout Mormon family and attended the Mormon church here in Bandon. Morris also had been active in the Mormon church, even going on a mission about nine years ago.

Local tailor and Sprague Theater manager Jeff Norris knew murder victim Robin Anstey for 20 years. He also knew Morris, and while he did describe him as “a little strange,” he still doesn’t think he is capable of murder.

“He was quite a talker, with big plans, but I can’t believe he would do something like this,” Norris said.

Most recently, Norris had a space for his tailoring business in Hidden Treasures, a framing shop and antiques store south of town, next to Bandon Bookkeeping. Anstey and her former husband, James Anstey, owned the business, but divorced last summer and sold it. About that time Anstey and Robert Kennelly got together.

Kennelly was twice widowed, Norris said. His last wife, who was his high school sweetheart from Monterey, Calif., died of cancer a couple of years ago. Kennelly did odd jobs, but told Norris he was living off his second wife’s insurance and was looking for work. He and Anstey were recently planning to purchase an antiques store in Coos Bay in partnership with another couple, but the deal didn’t work out.

Anstey has another son, Jesse, who lives in Florida. Her mother lives in Silverton. She also has a brother, but Norris didn’t know where he lived.

“Robin was a caring, nice person and Bob also was a nice guy. He lived in Levi’s and T-shirts. He was just a regular guy,” Norris said. “It’s a shame. It really is.”

Another friend, Danielle Benjamin, who owns Benjamin’s Attic, had dinner with Anstey and Kennelly at McFarlin’s in Old Town Bandon on the night of their deaths. The couple left the restaurant, apparently headed for home, at about 9 or 9:30. Police believe the couple was killed a short time later in Kennelly’s home.

Benjamin said she also was in shock, but did believe, based on comments from Anstey, that she wasn’t happy about having her son back in town and living with them.

Authorities say Gabriel Morris worked as a sheriff’s deputy in eastern Idaho. Bingham County, Idaho, Sheriff Dave Johnson said Tuesday that Morris was a patrol deputy from 2005 until 2007. Morris quit, then took a job at an exercise gym, where he worked for a year. He then worked as an insurance broker until he moved with his wife and daughter to Bandon a few months ago to resolve bankruptcy and financial troubles.

Jessica Morris was a volunteer with the Women’s Safety & Resource Center.

She recently was helping set up a fundraiser for the organization last weekend in Bandon, but hadn’t gotten out publicity about the event, which was canceled.

Jessica Morris also had been an employee at Bandon Bookkeeping for the last two months and was considered a good worker who was well liked. Co-workers were worried about her when she called in sick one day almost a week prior to the murders, and hasn’t been heard from since.

“Jessica was intelligent and reliable and very outgoing, and also appeared to be a very good mother,” said co-worker Mary Ann Donaldson. “We’re concerned for her safety.”

Why wasn't an amber alert activated when they discovered they were in Mesa???? Due to my work, I am registered to almost every, if not every, emergency notification system within the state. I have seen nothing as far as alerts go out about this! I've received alerts that people may be posing as an RN, but in reality have no credentials. That's another soap box in itself, but seriously with all this emergency preparedness and department of homeland security stuff being implemented, why isn't it being practiced with cases like this? An email from me will soon be received by our state emergency preparedness partners! And didn't Arizona just criticize Texas for not issuing an amber alert on baby Gabriel? Goes both ways people! 🇳🇴

I do think that either the wife does not know what he has done or he has threatened the safety of their daughter. I know it's hard to understand why women stay, why they don't see it. Believe me, it's easy to see it when it's happening to someone else, but it is not easy to see when it's happening to you and people telling you it's happening doesn't make it any more clear. It can be compared to brainwashing of religious cults. Something has to happen to make everything "click" and finally realize that the one you love (or loved) is a monster.

I don't understand why they don't put something out similar to an amber alert nationwide on things like this. By the time people know they're wanted and may be in their area, it's usually too late. The jurisdictional BS needs to stop so that violent criminals can be caught sooner rather than later. Longer it takes, the less likely it is to find them and the more damage they do in the meantime.

It has been suggested that he has made her believe they are being sought by those who murdered his Mother and BF. If she waited in the car for him, then he probably didn't want her going into the store where she might see a news paper or some bulletin. Am betting the radio in the car is not working. This woman must be terrified out of her mind.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Coquille man gave fugitive gun..........OMG!

Post by Nama Sat Feb 20, 2010 6:42 pm

Gabriel Morris seemed very upset and scared when he appeared unexpectedly on Fred Eschler’s Coquille doorstep on the night of Feb. 8.

A former beau of one of Eschler’s daughters, Morris told the Coquille school board member that terrorists had killed his mother and her friend. That he and his wife, Jessica Morris, had been working undercover for the U.S. Air Force.

He said he shot a terrorist and needed to get out of town.

About 15 miles away, Robin Anstey and her boyfriend, Robert W. Kennelly Jr., lay dead in their Bandon-area home, their bodies pierced by bullets.

According to Coos County court documents, investigators believe Morris shot them repeatedly and headed to Eschler’s house for help, before fleeing the state with his wife and 4-year-old daughter.

Eschler — a teacher at Millicoma Intermediate School — and his wife, Laura, gave them clothing, sleeping bags and about $150. He also loaned them a gun, ammunition and a Ford Taurus.

The next day, Eschler picked up the phone and called the Coos County District Attorney’s Office. He reported that a visitor, claiming to be involved in counter-terrorism activities for the federal government, said he may have been involved in two recent homicides near Bandon.

But neither the police nor the DA knew of any unsolved homicides. Nor did they know Anstey and Kennelly were dead.

That is, not until Wednesday, Feb. 10, when a Coos County Sheriff’s Office deputy drove up to Kennelly’s home about 6 miles outside of Bandon on Highway 42 South. He walked toward the front door, looking for the owner of a truck that had been abandoned on North Dean Street in Coquille.

There, on the two-story home’s deck, he spotted Anstey’s body by an open front door. He saw Kennelly’s on the floor inside, a few feet from the door.

That same day, Coquille Police Chief Mark Dannels interviewed the Eschlers, who live on North Dean Street. According to court documents, Morris repeatedly asked for .40 caliber ammunition and a ride to San Diego.

Eschler refused to drive them, but gave them his Taurus. He also gave Morris a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun with three loaded magazines. At one point, the 33-year-old Morris dropped a semi-automatic handgun that had been hidden in his clothing onto the Eschlers’ couch.

“Gabriel picked up the gun. Fred believed that the .40 caliber ammunition that Gabriel wanted was for the gun he saw in Gabriel’s possession,” an affidavit said.

During the interview with Dannels, Laura Eschler said she tried to speak with Morris’ daughter, Kalea, who said “Something to the effect of ‘something happened to grandma.’” At that point, Laura Eschler told Dannels, Gabriel Morris told the child to stop talking about “what happened to grandma.”

The Eschlers said they last saw the family drive away in their car, with Jessica Morris at the wheel and Gabriel Morris and Kalea huddled in the back seat. A surveillance camera caught the Morrises on tape in Mesa, Ariz., on Feb. 10, in what appeared to be the Eschlers’ Ford. They may be heading to Louisiana or Florida.

At the crime scene, investigators and Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier found what appeared to be a .40 caliber spent shell casing and an empty magazine from a semi-automatic handgun near Kennelly and Anstey’s bodies.

“Based upon the above information, I have probable cause to believe and do believe that Gabriel Christian Morris is responsible,” for the shootings, Frasier wrote.

The state has issued a warrant for Morris’ arrest, charging two counts of aggravated murder.

Investigators are aware the Morrises were facing bankruptcy when they moved to Coos County from Blackfoot, Idaho. According to a conversation with Mike Pope, Jessica Morris’ father, Jessica had $100,000 from a settlement she received for a neck injury. Once the Morrises were married, they quickly spent the money. Pope said the couple got into debt and he encouraged them to move to Oregon to declare bankruptcy. He loaned them $7,000 before they left.

Pope also told investigators Gabriel Morris cheated on his daughter with a woman in Pocatello, Idaho, a court document said. After the affair “The woman from Pocatello called either Jessica or Mr. Pope wanting to know the location of Gabriel, as she was considering pressing charges against him for using her credit cards without permission and running up the balances on the accounts,” court documents said.

As of Friday, the district attorney said he does not plan to file charges against Fred Eschler, a Coquille School Board member since July 2009.

“I don’t see how I can,” Frasier said. “He did not know about the murders.”

Attempts to reach Eschler for comment were unsuccessful. Laura Eschler refused to comment.

The DA said any charges for Jessica Morris are premature, but a warrant is seeking her as a material witness to the killings.

“Just because you are at the scene of the crime doesn’t mean you’re guilty of a crime,” Frasier said. “I don’t know what she knows. I can’t charge her with anything until I know what she knows or what she knew at the time.”

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty Ties to Utah

Post by Nama Sat Feb 20, 2010 7:26 pm

Authorities are combing the country for an Oregon double-murder suspect with Utah ties.
Gabriel Morris, 33, is accused of the shooting deaths of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey, 62, and her boyfriend, Robert William Kennelly Jr., 48, at Kennelly's house near Bandon, on the Oregon coast. The Morrises also were living there. They likely were killed Feb. 8.
Morris has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder, and is believed to be on the run with his wife, Jessica, and their 4-year-old daughter, Kalea, in a silver Ford Taurus.
Morris attended Brigham Young University and was a member of the ROTC there, said U.S. Marshals supervisory deputy Michael Wingert.
"We don't have any hard and fast ties such as family members" in Utah, Wingert said, but it is possible that Morris and his family could come to the state. "We're hoping he gets caught in a hurry."
He also once worked as a sheriff's deputy in eastern Idaho. Morris was a Bingham County patrol deputy from 2005 until 2007, Sheriff Dave Johnson told the Blackfoot Morning News .
Gabriel Morris reportedly was seen Wednesday evening at a business in Mesa, Ariz., after police had tracked him to San Diego, said Oregon's Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier. He was moving east, and could have been headed to Louisiana or Florida, where he has family.
Anyone who spots Morris or his family is being asked to call police.

It seems to me they could charge Eschler with something, not that it would affect the case or help find Morris, but without his assistance maybe the wife and child would now be safe. He did know about the murders even though he was told they were murdered by terroists. Seeing this guy with a weapon, and still providing him with another gun and ammo and a means of escape, hmmm, a stupid move at the very least. JMO

I was born and raised in a very small town, not a lot of worldly experiences for the people there especially in the 1950s and 60s well before the internet connected everyone. However, I don't think, even then and there, people were as naive as many in this town seem to be, jmo. To make it worse, again jmo, seems LE and the DA are especially so when it comes to believing someone in their community, maybe someone they know well, could perpetrate a serious crime like murder. I don't know if it would benefit anything, but it bothers me that the DA says he cannot charge Eschler because he didn't know of the murders....that isn't so. I am not out for this guy to be arrested or charged with a crime, I just think it is a good reflection of how things are handled there. I am especially thinking of Leah and why no one was ever charged with the crime. I am praying that will be resolved soon. Please remember I am an outsider looking in and I could be way off base, this is JMO.

Virginia police have captured Bandon double homicide suspect Gabriel Morris.

Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said Morris, his wife, Jessica, and their 4-year-old daughter, Kalea, are in custody in Prince William, Va. Frasier said police arrested Gabriel Morris at 9:15 a.m. Pacific Standard Time today. The DA said no one was hurt during the arrest.

Gabriel Morris, arrested

Gabriel Morris is wanted in the shooting deaths of his mother, Robin L. Anstey, 62, and her boyfriend, Robert W. Kennelly Jr., 48, on Feb. 8, at Kennelly’s home about six miles from town. Medical examiners determined Anstey and Kennelly died from multiple gunshot wounds. Frasier filed two counts of aggravated murder against the 33-year-old Gabriel Morris, along with a warrant for his arrest. Jessica Morris was wanted as a material witness.

At 6 a.m. PST, the Prince William County Police Department received a tip that a wanted man may have been staying in a home in Dumfries, Va.

"The resident became suspicious of the suspect and looked his name up on the Internet and found that he was wanted in Oregon for two murders," a police department press release said.

A SWAT team stopped Morris' vehicle as he left the home about three hours later. Police arrested him without incident.

The couple has been on the run since the slayings. Witnesses had last seen the Morrises in Coos County at about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in a silver Ford Taurus. Police tracked the family to San Diego, then a surveillance camera caught them on video on Feb. 10 at a business in Mesa, Ariz. Frasier had speculated the Morrises might have been heading toward Louisiana and Florida, where Gabriel Morris has family.

On Saturday, the network TV show “America’s Most Wanted” posted a fugitive notice for Gabriel Morris on its Web site. The National Center for Missing and Endangered Children also joined in the hunt, distributing a poster with information about the Morrises’ daughter.http://www.theworldlink.com/articles/2010/02/22/news/doc4b82cb220e2e7953362154.txt

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty someone Morris was staying with became suspicious and searched his name on the Internet

A man suspected of killing his mother and her boyfriend earlier this month in Coquille, Ore., has been captured in Virginia after someone Morris was staying with became suspicious and searched his name on the Internet, according to the Prince William County police department in northern Virginia.

Gabriel Morris, 33, and his wife and daughter became the subjects of a manhunt after the bodies of Morris' mother, Robin Lynn Anstey, 62, and her partner, Robert William Kennelly Jr., 48, were discovered Feb. 10.

Jessica Morris and their 4-year-old daughter Kalea are OK and at the police station, officials said. Police have impounded the silver car with Oregon plates the family was suspected of driving.

Police are interviewing the mother and daughter. Jessica Morris was wanted as a material witness by authorities in Oregon, but police in Virginia said they cannot arrest someone as a material witness under Virginia law. A police spokesperson said Jessica Morris would likely be turned over to the U.S. Marshals.

Around 9 a.m. in Virginia (6 a.m. in Oregon) a Dumfries, Va., a resident reported to police that Morris might be staying at the resident's home. The resident became suspicious of Morris and looked up his name on the Internet and discovered he was wanted for two murders in Oregon. Then the resident called police.

A SWAT team stopped Morris' vehicle as he left the house around 12:15 p.m. (9:15 a.m. in Oregon) and took him into custody without incident.

The hunt for Morris was featured on the most recent episode of "America's Most Wanted."

Morris was a patrol deputy from 2005 until 2007 in Idaho. He quit, then took a job at Gold's Gym in Blackfoot where he worked for a year. He then worked as an insurance broker until he moved with his wife and daughter to Oregon several months ago.

Last week, authorities said surveillance video showed Morris was at a business in Mesa, Ariz., on Wednesday with his wife and their 4-year-old daughter. Police had previously tracked him to San Diego.

Investigators believe Anstey and Kennelly were killed on Monday, Feb. 8. Their bodies were found two days later after a sheriff's deputy tracked an abandoned truck to a Coquille home and found the bodies inside.

Gabriel Morris gets TWO CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES for the murders of his mother, Robin Lynn Anstey and her friend Robert William Kennelly Jr Empty The internet

Post by Nama Mon Feb 22, 2010 2:18 pm

The Internet found the Morris family a place to live in Virginia a few days ago -- and led to their capture Monday in connection with a double homicide in Coquille, Ore.
Law enforcement officials said the Morris family had been staying in Dumfries, Va., for a couple days at the home of someone they met on the Internet. A resident of the home, which police said had many adult residents, became suspicious of Morris after seeing a segment on "America's Most Wanted" and searched his name on the Internet, discovering he was wanted for murder in Oregon.

The resident phoned the tip in to Prince William County law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force went into action, staking out the home and moving in as Morris and his wife tried to leave the house.

Investigators feared that once confronted, Morris might try and harm his wife and daughter who were traveling with him, U.S. Marshals said. However, Morris left the home in a Ford Explorer with the female homeowner of the house where the family was staying. His wife Jessica and daughter left the house at the same time in the same silver Ford Taurus with Oregon plates that investigators identified after the victims' bodies were discovered almost two weeks ago, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Morris was armed with a .45 caliber handgun but taken into custody without incident, Marshals said.
