Investigators are renewing their call for information about the disappearance of HaLeigh Cummings, the 5-year-old girl who disappeared from her Satsuma home two years ago.

"It's been clear from day one that the contradicting statements from the family members are not the truth," said Capt. Johnny Greenwood, spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

A vigil will be held today in the child's honor.

The investigation into her disappearance has marshaled the efforts of numerous law enforcement agencies, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

HaLeigh Ann-Marie Cummings vanished the night of Feb. 9, 2009, from the mobile home she shared with her father, Ronald Cummings; her father's live-in girlfriend, Misty Cummings; and Ronald Cummings Jr., HaLeigh's 3-year-old brother.

Cummings was working as a crane operator at PDM Bridge in Palatka on Feb. 9.

Croslin, 17 at the time, was at home with HaLeigh and her brother.

Croslin told investigators she put the girl to bed at 8 p.m. because it was a school night. She said she last saw HaLeigh around 10 p.m. and went to bed herself between 10:30 and 11.

Croslin said she woke to get a drink of water shortly before 3:30 a.m. She saw a light on in the kitchen. A cinderblock or brick had been laid against the back door, propping it open, she said.

She reported HaLeigh's disappearance to 911 Dispatch at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10, just as Cummings was getting home from work.

Cummings and Croslin were subsequently arrested on drug charges and sentenced to prison.

Cummings, now 27, was sentenced in September to 15 years in prison for dealing prescription pills with Croslin and three others.

Croslin is serving 25 years in prison on prescription drug-trafficking cases, Record archives show.

Those who are believed to have direct knowledge of HaLeigh's whereabouts on the night she disappeared have not provided investigators with any viable leads, according to Wednesday's release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators have not considered the disappearance a cold case yet, the release insisted.

"Detectives still respond to every tip or lead we get," Greenwood said. "Although most of them don't pan out to be anything, we still follow up with every tip."

Family members and friends of missing 5-year-old HaLeigh Cummings will gather at her grandmother's home, 216 Fouth Ave., in Welaka Thursday at 6 p.m.

Haleigh's family marks second year of disappearance
Photobucket
Meanwhile, both sides of the girl's family have vigils planned to mark the disappearance on Feb. 10, 2009.

Sheriff's Capt. Johnny Greenwood said in a news release that the evidence and investigation have minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance was the work of a stranger.

"The individuals with direct knowledge of Haleigh's whereabouts the night she went missing have still failed to provide the necessary information to bring this case to a logical conclusion," Greenwood said. "Contradictory statements provided by these witnesses indicate that they are concealing information from the investigators."

A victim advocacy group, the Justice Coalition, said the maternal side of Haleigh's family was to have a private vigil in a Baker County church Wednesday night. Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, is from Baker County.

A public vigil is planned for 6 p.m. today at the home of Annette Sykes, Haleigh's paternal grandmother, in Welaka.

Several figures in the case are in prison serving convictions of selling prescription drugs. Among them are Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings; Misty Croslin, the teenager who was Ronald's girlfriend and who was with Haleigh at the time of her disappearance; and Misty Croslin's brother, Hank "Tommy" Croslin Jr.

Haleigh was last seen alive the night of Feb. 9., 2009. She was reported missing about 3 a.m. Feb. 10 by Croslin, who said she woke up to discover that Haleigh was no longer in the home.

The Croslins later accused a cousin from Tennessee of assaulting Haleigh and disposing of her body in the St. Johns River. No trace of her has been found.

Greenwood said every lead that has been provided has been acted on by investigators. He added that Sheriff Jeff Hardy wants to assure the public, but mainly Haleigh's family, that investigators will continue to aggressively pursue this case to the end.

"By no means is this case being considered ‘cold,' " he said. "There are still individuals who hold important information, which, if provided to investigators, could solve this case."

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty Haleigh Cummings – A Press Release From The PCSO

Post by Wrapitup Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:27 am

Posted on February 9th, 2011
by Simon Barrett

Tomorrow marks a dark anniversary, it will be two years that Haleigh Cummings has been missing. The story has been mired in controversy from the very early days. Theories abounded as to what might have happened to the young girl. The term ‘trial by media’ sums the case up in three short words. The 18th century British barrister Sir William Gallows is credited with coining the phrase ‘Innocent before proven guilty’, today it is a building block of modern justice.

The internet and mass media has had a profound effect on William Gallows sage words. Trial by media has become the norm. The Haleigh Cummings and Caylee Anthony stories are prime examples. Much like a trip to the local horse track, media and Netizens picked their favorites. In the case of Haleigh Cummings there were pro and anti groups for father Ronald Cummings, his most notable supporter being HLN’s Nancy Grace.

Underage babysitter/lover/wife/ex wife Misty Croslin on the other hand had few supporters and was a highly backed favorite for being the bad person.

As the story unfolded, the characters involved became stranger and stranger. Misty’s brother Tommy Croslin became a favorite target, was he part of the case? Was he implicated in the disappearance?

HLN rapidly became Dysfunction Junction. Ring master Nancy Grace introduced an ever growing number of unlikely characters. Denizens of the Double-Wide world abounded.

To bolster the untrained and often verbally challenged guests, Ms. Nancy also had a double Emmy winning journalist with a really bad habit of losing vital evidence, and a plethora of ho-hum lawyers looking for new business opportunities.

The one group of people that put themselves above the tabloid crap were the PCSO. At first I thought that they were just a bunch of small town hicks. They played their cards close to their chests. In fact they continue to do so. The one thing that became clear when dealing with the PCSO was that they would not be swayed by the press. Very occasionally they would reveal a little, it was almost always in an obscure fashion. I spent countless hours on the phone with a good friend of mine who was also covering the story. We sliced and diced the message we had received.

When the PCSO spoke it was not to just flap their lips. Sure, some of our information came through the back door, but the best stuff came from the press releases. The PCSO are the masters of the art. There was always a nugget of gold. Today is no exception. I have printed todays press release in its entirety:

Tomorrow marks two years of investigative efforts into the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings. During the early morning hours of February 10, 2009, Haleigh Cummings was reported missing from her residence in Satsuma. Sheriff Hardy’s interest in the public’s desire to bring Haleigh home, have led him to release the following update on the investigation.

As been reported in numerous media releases in the past, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and investigators from agencies throughout Florida have invested thousands of man-hours into the investigation thus far.

At this point, the evidence and investigatory effort has minimized the likelihood that Haleigh’s disappearance is the work of a stranger. The individuals with direct knowledge of Haleigh’s whereabouts the night she went missing have still failed to provide the necessary information to bring this case to a logical conclusion. Contradictory statements provided by these witnesses indicate that they are concealing information from the investigators.

Sheriff Hardy realizes the importance of keeping the public involved in this case, and appreciates all of the leads that have been provided thus far. Every lead that has been provided has been acted on by investigators. He also wants to assure the public, but mainly Haleigh’s family, that investigators will continue to aggressively pursue this case to the end. By no means is this case being considered “cold”. There are still individuals who hold important information, which if provided to investigators, could solve this case.

There have been numerous requests for interviews with detectives and other agency members concerning the investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of this case, the agency members are still not participating in formal interviews. There is also not any additional information that investigators could provide that hasn’t been given in media releases numerous times in the past.

I agree, Wrap. Haleigh is such a beautiful little girl - I don't know how she ended up with such a bunch of "losers". Although I don't think it is likely, it would be wonderful if she was found alive somewhere. I still believe in miracles!

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Two years ago Thursday, a 911 call was placed to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office saying 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings had vanished.

Family and friends of the girl who disappeared from her Satsuma home in February 2009 will gather at 6 p.m. Thursday in Welaka to remember Haleigh. That vigil will be held at 216 Fourth Ave., the home of Annette Sykes, Haleigh's maternal grandmother.

Haleigh will also be remembered at the regular Wednesday night service at the Glen St. Mary baptist church that Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, attends.

Despite their hopes and prayers that Haleigh is still alive, Putnam County investigators said last April that they consider this a homicide case and no longer a missing person investigation.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office released a statement Wednesday afternoon. Part of it reads: "At this point, the evidence and investigatory effort has minimized the likelihood that Haleigh's disappearance is the work of a stranger. The individuals with direct knowledge of Haleigh's whereabouts the night she went missing have still failed to provide the necessary information to bring this case to a logical conclusion. Contradictory statements provided by these witnesses indicate that they are concealing information from the investigators."

After 23 months of investigation and following thousands of leads, some that led detectives to check reported sightings and people in other states, Haleigh's disappearance remains unexplained.

Haleigh's family continues to believe she may come home safely. In past vigils on Haleigh's birthday and anniversaries of her disappearance, family members said they invite the public to their events both to honor the girl and make sure her name and picture remain visible so she can be found.

"We believe she is alive, and not just our family, but there is an unbelievable amount of people who believe Haleigh's still alive," Sykes said last fall.

Haleigh's name remained in the headlines all last year as her father, Ronald Cummings, and ex-wife Misty Croslin -- the last person known to see the girl -- and Misty's brother Hank Croslin Jr. were all arrested on unrelated drug trafficking charges.

All three were convicted and are in prison. Misty Croslin is serving 25 years. Ronald Cummings and Hank Croslin Jr. are both serving 15-year sentences.

Anyone with any information about the Haleigh Cummings case is asked to call Northeast Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS or e-mail haleigh@putnamsheriff.org

My brother's birthday was yesterday. That is how I know it is the day HaLeigh went missing.
God bless her. I think about her EVERY DAY.
It IS not easy to believe she is still alive. I am not even sure how, most days. I just keep the faith. There is not enough evidence for me to concretely believe she is not among the living.
Lord knows with that bunch down there she had no chance, although she appeared very happy and sparkly in all the beautiful pictures we have seen of her.

Two years, two years!! Hard to believe that none of those crum bums folded and told the truth!!!!!! Poor precious Haleigh. Heard on JVM tonight that fellow employee's of Ron's said that before he had a sitter he would leave the kids in the car to sleep while he worked WHAT???? He worked 3rd shift. Those kids could have been taken then. Must be the only reason he took Misty in, so he could leave the children home with super-sitter, Misty.

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty Haleigh Cummings is Still Missing -- Two Years Marked by Vigil/ Great-Grandmother Annette Sykes Believes Great-Granddaughter Still Alive

Post by Wrapitup Sat Feb 12, 2011 5:45 am

Haleigh Cummings went missing two years ago on Feb. 10. She remains missing today. Unfortunately, there is little to be added to the Haleigh Cummings story after two years of searches, questionings, and investigation. But that does not make the story less important, nor does it stop authorities from continuing to try to find the little girl who would be turning 8 years old this year. And it certainly doesn't stop family members and friends from remembering her and hoping for her safe return...

A vigil was held Thursday evening for the missing girl. Although Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy announced in April last year that the case was being considered a homicide, many still hope for the safe return of the child police originally thought was kidnapped from her home in Satsuma, Fla.. Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great-grandmother and host of the vigil, is one who holds out hope that her great-granddaughter is still somewhere to be found and safely returned her family.

"She's out there somewhere and we're still looking for her," Sykes told the Palatka Daily News.

Putnam County authorities say they haven't given up either. Spokesman Capt. Johnny Greenwood said in a statement: "Investigators will continue to aggressively pursue this case to the end. By no means is this case being considered cold."

Greenwood noted that the Putnam County Sheriff's Office had invested thousands of man-hours and tracked thousands of leads in the case, but they seem to always return to the night Haleigh Cummings went missing and those who misled the investigation from the very beginning. And there are those who still withhold information about the case...

"There are still individuals who hold important information, which if provided to investigators, could solve this case," Greenwood said.

But Annette Sykes believes Haleigh is still alive. She has vowed to hold vigils until she knows otherwise. Last year, a vigil was held on the first anniversary of the date Haleigh went missing and on her birthday.

"They have not told us or shown us anything that tells us that she's not alive," she said." We have been offered nothing. All we have is one person's word and that's his opinion."

Since Ronald Cummings made the 911 call that early February morning to report his daughter missing, numerous searches and investigations have turned up nothing.

The investigation began after authorities talked with the distraught father and Haleigh's live-in babysitter, Misty Croslin, who said she last saw the little girl when she herself went to bed just hours before the 911 call. She woke in the night and noticed the 5-year-old missing from her bed (which was located just feet from where Croslin reportedly had been sleeping). Although Misty Croslin became a person of interest and has been subjected to numerous questionings and polygraph tests, she has yet to confess or be charged with a crime relating to the disappearance.

The case became fodder for the tabloids and current affairs programs, keeping the investigation alive in the news. Croslin would later marry Ronald Cummings -- and divorce him. Both would go to jail in 2010, arrested and convicted on charges relating to a drug sting. Both remain in prison.

Still, for all of its soap opera-ish appeal, the attention did little for the advancement of the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this case or who might know the whereabouts of Haleigh Cummings is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). The caller could be eligible for a $1,000 reward. An additional $30,000 in rewards has also been posted in this case.

Haleigh Cummings - Two Years Later And We Still Ask, Will She Ever Be Found?
Posted on February 10th, 2011 by Jan Barrett

Today makes two years since little 5 year old Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home in Putnam County, Florida while her brother and then baby sitter slept. She was reported missing at 3:27 am on February 10, 2009. I must say this case has really turned the lives of several people upside down, including family members, lawyers, journalists and anyone else that got involved in the case. I have to wonder just why that is though.

Haleigh’s Father, Ronald Cummings and his ex-wife, the then babysitter, Misty Croslin and her brother Tommy and two others have been arrested on drug charges and are now serving time for it. Some they feel that one way or another, although none of them have been charged with Haleigh’s disappearance, that at least the one responsible is behind bars at least but I don’t feel that way. Until someone is formally charged for Haleigh’s murder or kidnapping and she is found, this case is not solved.

I know the majority of the people disagree with me but I still feel as though the ones responsible for taking this child are sitting back right now feeling pretty proud of themselves for pulling off the perfect crime. The question is, Have they really? Someday the truth will come out.

The question still remains though, WHERE IS HALEIGH?

Tonight at 6 pm a prayer vigil will be held at the home of Haleigh’s great-grandmother’s home, Annette Sykes which is located at 216 Fourth Avenue in Welaka, Florida. Sykes says the family continues to hope Haleigh is still alive. “She’s out there somewhere and we’re still looking for her,” she said.

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy has labeled the case as a homicide after his investigators came to the conclusion that it is more than likely that little Haleigh is no longer alive. Despite what Sheriff Hardy thinks, Sykes has been quoted as saying, “We are looking for a live little girl. We don’t believe that she’s dead. We don’t care what the sheriff says.” It is good to know I am not the only one that feels this way. Until they have positive proof that she is no longer alive, I will never give up hopes of finding her alive and well.

Captain Johnny Greenwood says, “Investigators will continue to pursue this case to the end. By no means is this case considered cold.” I pray he is right and I pray it never goes cold.

My heart and prayers are with Haleigh today and every day. She needs to be found and brought home. Even if I am wrong with what I think, Haleigh still needs to be found so she can be laid to rest properly. I still think about little Adji Desir as well. These babies need to be found one way or another.

I think since I can’t be at the vigil tonight I will be lighting a candle in honor of Haleigh. Annette Sykes and Teresa Neves in case you happen to be reading this, please know my heart will be there with you both holding your hands as you pray for the return of Haleigh. God bless all of you. I can only imagine how hard this is on all of you as well.

In closing let me say, God bless all the lost and abused children, there are way too many to name them all. I pray that God will help us find an end to all the violence against our children. It would be so nice to be able to once again relax with our children.

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty Skull Found in Satsuma Turns out to be Plastic

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Reports of a human skull found off a boat ramp this afternoon turned out to be a false alarm, said police.

Investigators responded to a call at the water's edge near Buchanan Circle in Satsuma that a human skull had been found.

Investigators found the object in about 4" of water and determined it was a plastic replica of a human skull, a type of Halloween decoration.

In April 2010, investigators looking for Haleigh Cummings who disappeared in 2009 spent three days searching for her around a boat ramp five miles from where the plastic skull was found today. That search turned up no new leads.

Police have told the family that Haleigh is most likely dead, but has also promised to continue investigating.

Relative of Haleigh Cummings challenges Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy to find the girl …
by Radio

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Haleigh Cummings' great-grandmother has a room dedicated to the missing girl.

"She never leaves my mind," said Annette Sykes as she pointed to Christmas presents she still buys for Haleigh, hoping to give them to her one day.

"It's been four years since she's been gone," Sykes cried.

When then-five-year-old Haleigh disappeared from her Putnam County home in Satsuma in the middle of the night in February 2009, Sheriff Jeff Hardy had just been elected.

"It was my first month in office," he recalled. "I didn't even have business cards, and I had all the national media descend upon Putnam County."

Now, Sykes is challenging Hardy to do more to help find Haleigh.

"I want to know if he didn't find her in those first four years, I challenge him to find her now," Sykes said. "He's got four more years. Is it going to take four years to find out something?"

"The actual challenge is not with the next four years. The actual challenge of finding Haleigh began my 34th day in office, 4 years ago. So I can appreciate the challenge, but the challenge has been there every day," Hardy said.

Sykes said the challenge is not politically motivated.

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years 16iy175
SATSUMA, Fla. -- We are getting a new look at Haleigh Cummings. Action News obtained an age progression photo of Haleigh, showing what she might look like now, at the age of 9.

This weekend marks a dark anniversary for Haleigh's family. Every day for four years, they've wondered what really happened to the little girl. And the sad truth is, it's still one big mystery. And her family worries Haleigh will be forgotten.

"They don't realize that she's still gone, you know. They've quit thinking about her," said great grandmother Annette Sykes. "She's getting older, and changing. She's not the same little girl she was when she left here."

Sykes has seen the new photo. And she says there's something major missing, a peanut shaped birthmark on Haleigh's left cheek. "That's the one thing that won't change. No matter how much she grows or changes."

Haleigh was in the care of her dad's girlfriend the night she disappeared. Misty Croslin said Haleigh had been snatched out of her bed as she slept. But the truth of that statement has always been questioned. And even as Misty serves time in prison on drug charges, police and Haleigh's family still believe she is the only one who really knows what happened.

"She knows something, I'm sure," said Sykes.

Until Misty talks, all Sykes can do is hope. Her house is filled with photos of Haleigh, filled with presents Haleigh never got, and filled with memories of happier times. Through tears, Sykes said, "It's just hard because we want people to remember that she's still out there somewhere."

Action News spoke with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to check the status of this case. They say the investigation is still very much alive.

Sgt. Hancel Woods says the Haleigh Cummings mystery haunts him, and every other police officer who was working then. "There's just something about that innocent little face I think just grabbed people and tugged at their heart strings," he said.

Sgt. Woods says they had several outside agencies review the case last year to see if they had missed something. They didn't.

"It turns out that we had done a pretty good investigation," he said.

Then just last week, he says a possible sighting was reported from out of state. They sent investigators photos of what Haleigh looked like when she was 5, and the new age progression photo. He says those investigators tracked down the little girl and her mom.

"To the point of even verifying the birth certificate and interviewing the birth mother to verify that this child was not in fact Haleigh Cummings," he said.

But no matter how many leads they get, fingers continue to point to Misty Croslin. "Yes, absolutely we believe that Misty is a key to ultimately solving this case," said Sgt. Woods.

While the case has not officially been ruled a homicide, Sgt. Woods say detectives do not believe Haleigh is still alive. But they still want to find answers for her family.

Haleigh's family is holding a vigil for Haleigh this weekend. It starts at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, at Annette Sykes home in Satsuma.

IMHO, Grandma Sykes ENABLED her grandson probably all his life. He's a POS. She also allowed his then wife, Misty, to live w/her so NOW she is saying Misty holds the key. Did she think that when Misty was living under her roof? I am not a fan of Gma Sykes or Mother Teresa and never have been. They enabled that idiot son/grandson. They have got to know he is just as bad if not worse than Misty and I honestly believe he Knows what happened to HaLeigh and always will. She will never be found..this will be a cold case forever. my 2 cents

Bring HaLeigh Cummings Home ~ Pray for a Miracle
February 10, 2013 will mark four years since we have seen our precious HaLeigh. Four years seems like four lifetimes ago but in those four years our desire to see HaLeigh has not waned. We pray for the day that God blesses us with the miracle that brings HaLeigh home. We believe in God and we believe that he still performs miracles. We continue to pray for our miracle and ask that you join us on February 10, at 2:30 p.m., as we stand united and pray for HaLeigh's safe return. I know you are all very busy but I hope you will make time to come and pray with us. Jamie Watts has once again agreed to lead the vigil. We are so very thankful for all those who come and give of their love and their time. Your prayers and support mean more than words can say.Thank you and God bless you!

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty Where's Haleigh? After 4 years, investigation remains open

Post by Wrapitup Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:27 pm

By Chris DeVitto
Published: Saturday, February 9, 2013 12:34 AM EST

It has been four years since Haleigh Cummings was reported missing. In Putnam County and elsewhere, investigators are still chasing leads, an official with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Hancel Woods said although the volume of leads in the case has declined, detectives investigating the case still examine each bit of information and act on those leads that have merit.

"This is still an active investigation and we have people that are actively working the case," he said.

"The tips and leads aren't flooding in anymore but we still do get them and follow up on them."

Woods said last week detectives following up on a lead in the Haleigh case investigated what was thought to be a credible sighting of the missing girl in Ohio.

"We contacted a local law enforcement agency and gave them the information from someone that had seen a child that could possibly be Haleigh," he said.

"So we sent all the information, including her photograph and the digitally enhanced photo of what she could look like now, to a local agency who sent detectives out."?The child was located and contacted at school and did not appear to be Haleigh Cummings, he said.

"They even followed up and made contact with the birth mother and even went so far as to look at the birth certificate," he said.

"I think that is a very good example of how we are actively pursuing and following up on leads we get that have any potential of being credible and we will continue to do that."

Last year additional efforts were made by putting together a task force of investigators from outside the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to review the case, he said.

That review was done in Virginia.

"We went there and took all the pertinent information in the investigation and asked them to start from square one and look through the information and the steps we took during our investigation," he said.

Woods said investigators from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and from the Navy Criminal Investigative Service were involved in reviewing the case information.

"It was a very experienced group to put fresh eyes on it to see if there might have been something that we missed," he said.

"I thought it was a bold move by Sheriff Jeff Hardy to open up our investigation to make sure we didn't miss something."

"It was disappointing that the group didn't turn up any new information or anything that would have helped us solve the case."

Woods said it was reassuring to know sheriff's offices investigators did perform a thorough investigation.

The unsolved case still haunts the community and the sheriff's department, he said.

"Everybody in our agency, her relatives and family and the community feel a closeness to that child," he said.

"To have some sort of closure - everybody would want that and we keep hoping and praying for that."

Haleigh was reported missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2009.?Law enforcement officers and volunteers on land and water found no trace of her despite massive searches.?Investigators initially described the 5-year-old's disappearance as a child-abduction case.

At the conclusion of a three-day search of the St. Johns River, Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy officially labeled it a homicide.?Then-17-year-old Misty Croslin was babysitting Haleigh at a home in Satsuma the night she went missing.?Croslin told deputies she put Haleigh to bed just after 8 p.m. and went to bed herself a couple hours later.

Croslin said she awoke around 3 a.m. to use the bathroom when she noticed the kitchen light on, the door propped open with a cinder block and Haleigh gone.?Haleigh's father, 26-year-old Ronald Cummings, was returning from his night-shift job at Palatka's PDM Bridge when the child was reported missing.?Sheriff's office divers, ground searches, bloodhounds and helicopters searched portions of the St. Johns River and wooded areas in Satsuma while door-to-door interviews were conducted and officers searched vehicles at roadblocks.?Two camps were set up in the neighborhood to house the maternal and paternal sides of Haleigh's family.

For more than a month, tents glowed with hundreds of candles used in nightly vigils while national news media spotlighted the child's disappearance.?A month later, Croslin and Cummings were married at a family home in Welaka. The marriage soon foundered under what the couple termed unrelenting pressure from law enforcement and media.?Authorities named Croslin the key to the investigation after her statements to investigators reportedly had numerous inconsistencies about what took place between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. the night Haleigh disappeared.?In January 2011, Ronald Cummings, Misty Croslin, Hank Croslin Jr., Cummings' cousin Hope Sykes and a former search volunteer Donna Brock of Orlando were arrested following a month-long narcotics investigation into the trafficking of prescription pills. Croslin was sentenced to 25 years in prison while the others face 15-year terms.

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty 4 Years Now And HaLeigh Cummings Is Still Missing, Vigil Is Planned For Tomorrow

Post by Wrapitup Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:31 pm

Posted on February 9th, 2013 by Jan Barrett

Blogger News covered the story of the missing child from Satsuma, Florida from the beginning. 5 year old HaLeigh Cummings seems to have just disappeared off the face of the earth on February 10, 2009 and no one can tell what happened to her. It appears that she was taken as she was sleeping while her little brother and her then babysitter slept on the bed nearby, yet no one knows where she went or who took her.

There were battles everywhere over who knows what in this case. Innocent people suffered one way or another while the ongoing case was being investigated, yet still no one would admit knowing anything about where little HaLeigh was.

In real life, lives were torn apart, even lives of people that never actually met the little girl. People online fought against each other. Everyone had their own opinion as to what happened to HaLeigh, but no one could prove their ideas to be correct. What some refused to accept was that while they couldn’t prove their ideas, no one could actually prove the ideas were wrong either. Some say HaLeigh is being hidden somewhere, others say she was murdered, but the fact remains, that apparently NO ONE knows for sure what happened to this loving child, except for the one responsible for her disappearance and we all know that of course they are never going to admit anything.

In the meantime, some family members refuse to think HaLeigh may never be coming home and they continue praying that God will lead HaLeigh home again. It is no secret that I myself can’t give up that thought. Until someone shows me proof that HaLeigh is no longer with us, I still pray she will come home. This is my personal opinion, which I am entitled to and anyone else that shares my opinions, has the same rights.

Tomorrow, February 10, 2013, makes 4 years now that HaLeigh has been gone and her grandmother, Teresa Neves is holding another prayer vigil, in HaLeigh’s honor. Here are the details for it:

February 10, 2013 will mark four years since we have since our precious HaLeigh. Four years seems like four lifetimes ago but in those four years our desire to see HaLeigh has not waned. We pray for the day that God blesses us with the miracle that brings HaLeigh home. We believe in God and we believe that he still performs miracles. We continue to pray for our miracle and ask that you join us on February 10, at 2:30 p.m., as we stand united and pray for HaLeigh’s safe return. The address for the vigil is 302 Osceola Avenue Satsuma Florida. I know you are all very busy but I hope you will make time to come and pray with us. Jamie Watts has once again agreed to lead the vigil. We are so very thankful for all those who come and give of their love and their time. Your prayers and support mean more than words can say. Thank you and God bless you!

I can not be there for the vigil so I will be lighting a candle for HaLeigh tomorrow at 2:30 Eastern time. For those that can’t join Teresa and her family tomorrow, please join me in lighting a candle and saying a prayer for her too.

Whether you believe HaLeigh is out there and able to come home or not, what can saying a prayer for her, hurt? How can anyone blame the family of not giving up hope? I lost two babies which I have buried. I can go visit their burial plot and talk to them anytime I want to, but that is because I know where they are. No one knows where HaLeigh is, so her family can’t go visit her to talk. They have no way to ease the pain in their hearts as they grieve for this precious child. So please let them grieve the only way they can for now without any problems.

I pray that one day this family’s prayers will be answered. They have grieved enough. I pray for HaLeigh’s safe return and if that isn’t God’s will then please let the person/persons responsible for her disappearance come forward and tell what happened. Then this family can move on with their lives.

HaLeigh Cummings you will never be forgotten, sweetie. Please know you have so many people out here that loves and misses you. They wait for your return. God bless you HaLeigh! God bless your family as well!

Cummings family marks somber anniversary

Reported by: Dee Registre Email: deeregistre@ActionNewsJax.com

2/10 6:23 pm Share Updated: 2/10 11:21 pm

SATSUMA, Fla. -- It's been four years since anyone has seen little Haleigh's smile, but for her family it feels like an eternity. "I can't believe we are here again," said her grandmother, Teresa Neves.

Neighbors held each other tight as they joined Haleigh's family for a vigil Sunday in her honor. Surrounded by letters, toys and gifts she never received, they lit candles hoping one day Haleigh will get those items.

"There is not a day that goes by that I don't miss Haleigh and wonder who took her," said Neves.

Misty Croslin was the last person to see Haleigh. She told police the five-year-old disappeared from her bed in the middle of the night. Croslin is now in jail for drug charges. But Haleigh's family is calling on investigators to do more.

"They keep saying that their doing all they can do. They are following every lead, but they don't contact us at all," said Haleigh's great-grandmother, Annette Sykes.

Haleigh would be nine-years-old now Police released an age-progressed picture of what she might look like. "It's not what I would think she would look like, but it's something to go on," said Neves.

"She has changed. I am sure she doesn't look like she did then, but that little peanut birthmark on her left cheek will always be there. And no matter how much she grows or how much she changes, it's still going to be there," said Sykes.

Whether the picture is right or wrong, her family says they just want Haleigh back. "Let people know that she is still missing and that we want her to come home," said Neves.

Investigators tell Action News this is still an ongoing investigation. If you have any information that can help police, call Putnam Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477.

Ceremony marks 5th anniversary of Haleigh Cummings' disappearance.
5-year-old who went missing in 2009 has never been found

By Dana Treen Mon, Feb 10, 2014 @ 11:06 am | updated Tue, Feb 11, 2014 @ 12:42 am

A ceremony Monday at her elementary school marked the fifth year of Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance in Putnam County.

Family members presented a plaque in the courtyard at Browning-Pearce Elementary School where a crepe myrtle already is planted in her name, Assistant Principal Willie Dale said.

Six classmates and teacher Mary Johnston from Haleigh’s 2009 kindergarten class were there, Dale said, as was as Capt. Dominic Piscitello, the commander of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office detective team that investigated the case.

Haleigh, a 5-year-old when she disappeared Feb. 10, 2009 from the mobile home where she lived with her father and his girlfriend, has never been found.

She was being watched by Misty Croslin, the 17-year-old girlfriend of Ronald Cummings, who was at work.

Searches, including in the nearby St. Johns River, were unsuccessful in finding her, and Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said he does not believe she is alive.

There have been no criminal charges in the case.

Croslin and Ronald Cummings, along with her brother Hank “Tommy” Croslin Jr., her friend Donna Brock, and Cummings’ cousin Hope Sykes are all in prison on drug-dealing convictions from cases developed following the disappearance.

“We want to assure the public, but mainly Haleigh’s family, that investigators will continue to aggressively pursue this case to the end,” a Sheriff’s Office statement reads.

HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Empty Haleigh Cummings saga continues with new developments. Online petition to revisit case; Mother arrested in Baker County.

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -
Two major developments in the Haleigh Cummings saga have surfaced this week.

A petition, started through Change.org , has been circulating on the Internet, calling for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to revisit the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, which made national headlines in 2009.

Petition here:
 http://www.change.org/petitions/justice-for-haleigh-ann-marie-cummings

And Cummings' mother, Crystal Sheffield (pictured below), has been arrested in Baker County for violating her probation. The nature of Sheffield's parole violation has not been released by authorities.  Since late 2013, Sheffield has been arrested for petit theft, disorderly intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia.
HaLeigh now missing for 7 years Crystal-Sheffield
Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father, was brought from prison to the Baker County Courthouse this week for a custody hearing for the pair's son, Ronald Jr., the brother of Haleigh Cummings.

Ronald Cummings was sentenced in 2011 to 15 years in prison for selling prescription drugs.

Sources told Channel 4 that as a result of the custody hearing, Sheffield lost custody of Ronald Jr. The Department of Children and Families will not confirm that information.

Haleigh Cummings' great grandmother, Annette Sykes, spoke with Channel 4's Ashley Harding on Friday.

Annette Sykes "It's like someone just stole part of me,” Sykes said.

The front wall of Sykes' living room is covered with stuffed animals, cards and pictures. The words "Haleigh's Room" are pasted at the top.
HaLeigh now missing for 7 years HaleighRoomSign-jpg
"You tend to take things for granted, especially a child, because they're there,” Sykes said. “The things they do on a daily basis that you don't really pay any attention to until they're not there."

There have been no new developments in Haleigh Cummings' disappearance, but officials with the Sheriff's Office said they receive tips every month.

More than 1,000 signatures have been collected on an online petition calling for new attention to the case. Sykes said she doesn't blame the Sheriff's Office but said officials need to be more open with information.

"If they're doing things, they don't tell us,” Sykes said. “I mean, the least that you would think they would do is call us once in a while and say, 'We haven't forgotten about Haleigh.'"

Sykes said she believes someone knows exactly what happened but is just too afraid to come forward.

"You know, if they think that they're going to get in trouble or have to spend years in prison for knowing something, they're not going to tell,” Sykes said. “But if they're granted amnesty, they would tell, because then they wouldn't have to worry about getting in trouble."

In the meantime, Christmas presents and Easter baskets sit in "Haleigh's Room," waiting to be opened, and a grandmother waits for answers – a grandmother who still believes Haleigh is out there somewhere.

“I would love for people to continue to look for her,” Sykes said. “She's our little girl, and we love her and miss her. I know she misses us."

Florida’s County Sheriff’s Office Receives Petition To Revisit HaLeigh Cummings Case.
Posted on June 12th, 2014 by Jan Barrett in Society and Culture

The whole world changed for a family in Satsuma, Putnam County Florida when a 17 year old then babysitter woke up in the middle of the night and found little 5 year old HaLeigh Cummings missing. The back door was wide open and there was no trace of where the child disappeared to. A massive search started but no one was able to locate the child. There were several theories as to what happened to HaLeigh but none of them were ever proven.

Some think the child is no longer alive and others believe she is somewhere out there being kept away from her family for one reason or another. HaLeigh’s father, Ronald Cummings and his then girlfriend, Misty Croslin and Misty’s brother, Tommy Croslin have been arrested and found guilty for drug charges and have all been given rather lengthy sentences in prison, which satisfied a lot of people thinking they all had something to do with HaLeigh’s disappearance, therefore some justice had been served.

The fact of the matter is though that no one has as of yet been charged with HaLeigh’s disappearance so how can any there be any justice done? Until someone confesses or until they get solid evidence of who is responsible for her disappearing there simply is no justice here. The family needs some closure in the case. They NEED to know what happened to this precious child.

HaLeigh’s great-grandmother Annette Sykes says, “Every year, every day, she is out there and somebody knows something. We know somebody does and they just won’t tell.”

She went on to say “We don’t know where she is, how she is or who took her. Basically we don’t know anything.”

Now apparently a petition has surfaced with more than 1000 signatures on it asking the Sheriff’s Department to please revisit the case and start fresh. Sykes said that she thinks the petition could help bring some life to her great-granddaughter’s case. “To me it’s phenomenal. We don’t even know these people but yet they care enough,” said Sykes. “I hope that it caused somebody to do something to try to find our little girl. She deserves to be found.”

We here at BNN covered this story very closely. In fact I got so close to the case that I feel like I know this child. My heart aches for the family. Internet wars started and people with different opinions were at each other’s throats while the case was in full bloom.

I would like to ask people to please hold their hatred in this case back. Join together with prayers that some kind of lead will break this case one way or another. HaLeigh needs to be found one way or another so the mystery can be over and the family can begin to heal. I pray to God that answers will come out and then the family can start to move on with their lives. HaLeigh where ever you are I have you in my prayers!

Today marks 7 years since HaLeigh went "missing". I looked online and there isn't even one mention of her today. Very sad.

Here is a composite of what she'd look like at age 12.

Somewhere in the Lonzie Barton case I read that Lonzie and HaLiegh are related. I can't figure out how to post a link from my tablet sorry. What are the chances of 2 kids from the same family coming up missing? Boggles my mind.
