Infant, Woman Missing After Fatal Wis. Fire
3 Killed In Blaze
DINESH RAMDE, Associated Press Writer

UPDATED: 2:07 pm MST February 26, 2010

MILWAUKEE -- Authorities were searching Friday for a 6-week-old boy whose mother and two young siblings were found dead after a fire in their home, as well as a 20-year-old woman who lived at the residence.

Police were treating the deaths of the 24-year-old woman, her 4-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter as homicides, Milwaukee Police Capt. Kurt Leibold said. Their bodies were found after a fire at their home that was reported early Friday.

Investigators believe the missing boy, Maurice Visor, is in danger and are seeking the public's help in finding him, Leibold said at a news conference outside the family's duplex.

"We need to find this child because we believe the child is probably in danger," he said. He declined to elaborate about what danger Maurice could be in or why investigators were treating the deaths as homicides.

Investigators were also looking for Brittney Robertson, a woman who lived at the home, police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said in a statement.

"We are currently unable to locate her and are concerned for her safety," Schwartz said.

When asked whether Robertson was considered a suspect, Schwartz said Robertson was "a critical missing person, along with the baby."

Leibold said officers were searching for two cars that belonged to the infant's mother.

Investigators did not know who might have the baby, and they had no immediate reason to suspect the boy's father, Leibold said.

Police were unable to issue an Amber Alert because they didn't have enough information for one, Leibold said.

"The criteria isn't matching because we do not have a person to name or a possible vehicle the boy is in," he said.

Three people who lived downstairs from the family escaped the fire.

Diana Baldwin, 58, who has lived next door for about a year, said she had never heard any disturbances or loud noises from the mother's home.

"They were quiet. They mainly kept to themselves," Baldwin said.

Officers strung yellow police tape to block off a one-block radius around the house. Several neighbors watched the investigators through the windows of their homes but declined to come out and speak with reporters.

Across the street, three red roses lay near a stop sign under the police tape.

One passer-by stopped outside the tape and stood silently for a few moments. When a reporter approached him he said quietly, "If you talk to the family, tell them the whole neighborhood is hurting. Tell them we all offer our condolences."

Then he turned and walked away, declining to give his name.

A Milwaukee-area grandfather is 'elated' after his 6-week-old grandson was found safe, hours after the boy's mother and brothers were discovered dead.

The infant, Maurice Visor Jr., was missing for several hours before he was found abandoned but safe outside a church. Terry Visor of Bay View says he didn't know what to expect when the three were found dead in their burning home early Friday morning, but he was ecstatic when Maurice was found. He says holding him again will be "awesome."

Police say the deaths are being investigated as homicides. They're withholding details so they don't jeopardize the investigation.

Police have found a 19-year-old, Brittney Robertson, dead on Milwaukee's northside.

She was a person of interest in the deaths of three people found in a burning home in Milwaukee early Friday morning.

Police say Robertson lived in the home where a mother and two young boys were found dead after a suspicious fire. Investigators were treating the deaths of 24-year-old Rachel Thompson and her sons, 4-year-old Torian Thompson-Carter and 3-year-old Jaden Thompson-Carter, as homicides.

Police say Brittney Robertson was found dead about 6:15 p.m. Friday. Her death is being investigated.

The 19-year-old was a mother as well as a murderer (allegedly).

Brittney M. Robertson, the woman at the center of last month's quadruple homicide, gave birth prematurely in December to a son fathered by the same man who fathered the youngest son of Rachel M. Thompson, the woman Robertson fatally stabbed Feb. 26, according to newly released court documents.

Robertson's son died a short time after birth, according to an affidavit filed Monday in support of a search warrant.

Robertson stabbed Thompson and helped suffocate Thompson's 3- and 4-year-old sons early Feb. 26, but did not harm Thompson's youngest child, 2-month-old Maurice Visor Jr., according to a criminal complaint.

Instead, Robertson left the infant outside Eastbrook Church, 5385 N. Green Bay Ave., that afternoon.

Robertson's baby who died in December also was named Maurice Visor Jr., the affidavit says. Robertson's baby and Thompson's baby both were fathered by Maurice T. Visor Sr., according to the document.

Visor, 25, is in the Dodge Correctional Institution for violation of supervision stemming from a charge of fleeing and eluding an officer, according to the state Department of Corrections. He was incarcerated when the quadruple homicide occurred.

Robertson was fatally shot by one of her accomplices about 6 p.m. Feb. 26, after the accomplices became nervous when Robertson's photo was broadcast by police, according to a criminal complaint filed last week.

Jealousy motive

The affidavit and other court documents filed this week better explain the jealousy that investigators say motivated Robertson and clarify the connections among some of the people tied to the killings.

According to the affidavit:

Visor told police he met Robertson while she was working as a prostitute at a motel. Visor said he was dating Thompson at the time. Visor later conceived children with both women.

Robertson became friends with Thompson over Facebook, Visor told police. Thompson told Visor four days before the killings that she had allowed Robertson to move in with her because Robertson had nowhere to stay, Visor told police.

Visor also told police that Robertson was a heavy user of ecstasy, had a violent temper and was jealous, the affidavit says.

According to a criminal complaint:

The killings began about 4:30 a.m. Feb. 26, when Robertson, her current boyfriend, Desmond D. Laster, and Laster's friend Anthony E. Barnes Jr. went to the apartment Robertson and Thompson shared in the 800 block of S. 12th St.

Laster duct-taped Thompson's mouth and eyes, Barnes told police.

Robertson then asked Thompson, "What type of (expletive) are you to have your baby's daddy's other girl living with you?" Barnes told police.

Thompson, 23, died after Robertson, 19, stabbed her several times, the complaint says.

Thompson's two oldest children, Torian Thompson-Carter, 4, and Jaden Thompson-Carter, 3, also were killed. Laster, Barnes and Robertson stole about $800 from Thompson's apartment, but Robertson also admitted to an acquaintance after the killings that she hated Thompson because they had both been in a relationship with Visor. Robertson told the acquaintance she was still in love with Visor, the complaint says.

The fact that Robertson had conceived a son with Visor and lost the son after birth was not revealed publicly until the affidavit was filed Monday.

After killing Thompson and her two oldest sons, the criminal complaint says, Laster, Barnes and Robertson took Thompson's baby and set the apartment on fire to cover up the slayings.

They then drove to a motel on Milwaukee's northwest side, where Barnes inexplicably displayed his Department of Corrections offender card as proof of identity to the manager while checking in.

Robertson later left the infant unharmed outside the church. Meanwhile, police had broadcast Robertson's photo, saying they feared she was in danger.

That publicity made Laster and Barnes nervous, prompting Barnes to kill Robertson about 6 p.m. near a townhouse in the 10100 block of W. Kiehnau Ave., the complaint says.

Barnes, 23, and Laster, 21, were each charged last Thursday with four counts of first-degree intentional homicide, one count of arson to a building and one count of being felons in possession of a firearm.

Bail was set at $1 million for each man. Both are in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for March 12.

Empty Re: Desmond Laster&Anthony Barnes GUILTY in 1st-degree intentional homicide & arson in the deaths of Rachel Thompson & her two children & the murder of Brittney Robertson in Wisc./WARNING, GRAPHIC!!/Laster Gets 4 life terms w/ no parole!

Rachel Thompson and her two young children were slaughtered by a trio of thieves who investigators say were motivated by greed and jealously and who, in the course of a single day, turned on one of their own and executed her.

A criminal complaint filed Thursday charges two Milwaukee men, Desmond D. Laster, 21, and Anthony E. Barnes, 23, with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the deaths of Thompson and her sons Torian Thompson-Carter, 4, and Jaden Thompson-Carter, 3.

They also are charged with killing their accomplice, Brittney Robertson, 19; with setting fire to Thompson's apartment; and with being felons in possession of a firearm. If convicted of all charges, they face up to four life terms in prison plus 70 years.

The 11-page complaint is a graphic account of criminal depravity:

Early Feb. 26, it says, Laster called Barnes and asked him whether he would help his girlfriend, Robertson, move.

Barnes told police, the complaint says, that Robertson shared an upper flat with Thompson and her children in the 800 block of S. 12th St. Besides Torian and Jaden, Thompson had a third child, 6-week-old Maurice Visor. Robertson had once been the girlfriend of the infant's father.

4-year-old killed first

Robertson opened the door for Laster and Barnes, who told police they found Thompson sleeping on the living room couch. Three-year-old Jaden was also on the couch, but he was awake. Four-year-old Torian, seated on another couch, was also awake.

"Hi Des," Torian said to Laster, according to the complaint.

He would be the first killed.

Laster woke Thompson by punching her in the face, Barnes told police, and Torian began to cry.

Laster, Barnes said, duct-taped Thompson's mouth and eyes and demanded to know where she kept her money. She told him in a jacket in her bedroom. Robertson found it - about $800 - and gave it to Laster.

"What type of (expletive) are you to have your baby's daddy's other girl living with you?" Robertson asked Thompson. Robertson would later tell a friend she was still in love with the 6-week-old Maurice's father.

Barnes said Laster then taped Thompson's hands in front of her. In the light of the television set, Barnes said, Robertson and Laster taped Torian's hands behind him. Later, Barnes said, Laster covered the boy's head with a white trash bag, sealed it on the child's neck with duct tape then put him in a bathtub. A medical examiner's report says the boy suffocated.

Laster and Robertson then bound Jaden, Barnes said. Laster fastened a garbage bag over the child's head, and Robertson stabbed the toddler in the neck, Barnes said. Laster placed the boy in the bathtub with his brother.

Robertson then began stabbing Thompson, using the same knife she had used on the boy. Barnes said she continued to stab Thompson until the knife broke. She grabbed another and continued to stab Thompson until it broke as well.

Barnes said he then watched Laster stab Thompson in the neck.

But Thompson remained alive. Barnes said he stood over Thompson with a gun they had taken from Thompson's room. He said he closed his eyes and fired.

The group sprinkled the apartment with lighter fluid, set it on fire and left, taking the 6-week-old boy with them.

Firefighters who were called to the duplex about 5 a.m. discovered the bodies of Thompson and her two children.

Later that day, Robertson left the baby - the son of her former lover - on a sidewalk outside Eastbrook Church, 5385 N. Green Bay Ave.

Robertson talked suicide

About 3 p.m., the complaint says, Robertson called a friend and told him "she had killed Rachel Thompson and Rachel Thompson's two kids because they belonged to Rachel Thompson."

She told the friend she planned to kill herself.

That wouldn't be necessary.

Police officials released Robertson's picture in the afternoon, saying they feared she was in grave danger. Barnes said he and Laster decided that she had become too well-known to the public and that they would have to kill her.

Barnes told police that he drove Laster and Robertson to the 10000 block of W. Kiehnau Ave. It was about 6 p.m. Barnes said the three of them walked through a wooden gate near a townhouse.

Laster stepped out of the way, Barnes said, and using the gun he had used on Thompson, he shot Robertson in the back of the head.

reading of the written reports of the City of Milwaukee Police Department which complainant
believes to be reliable because those reports have proved reliable in the past and are used in
the ordinary and regular course of business of the City of Milwaukee Police Department.
1. Complainant alleges that on the date of February 26, 2010, Detective Steve Delie was sent to
the address of 836 S. 12th Street in reference to a fire at that address. Upon arriving there
Detective Delie spoke to an adult citizen witness by the name of Walter Horch. Mr. Horch
stated that at approximately 4:40 a.m. his wife notified him that the duplex upstairs at 836 S.
12th Street was on fire. Mr. Horch stated that at that time he began to go upstairs to the upper
duplex and he smelled fire and saw smoke. He began yelling for everyone to get out of the
upper duplex. Mr. Horch stated that he went outside and was going to attempt to break down
the back door but that the door was slightly open. He stated that he went upstairs to notify the
people who lived upstairs and began yelling “Is anyone there?” He stated that he then saw fire
underneath the door in the upper duplex and that the smoke was so powerful that he was forced
to come back downstairs. Mr. Horch stated that his neighbors upstairs were a female by the
name of Rachel Thompson and that she has three children that live with her including a 2-3
month old baby and 2 young children.
2. The reports of Police Officer Mark Bell reveal that on the date of February 26, 2010, at 4:42
a.m., he was dispatched to a fire at 836 S. 12th Street. Upon arriving there he observed
members of the Milwaukee Fire Department. He was informed that there were three victims in
the upper residence. Officer Bell observed that the fire department carried down two young
male children. He observed that these young children had their hands duct taped in front and
plastic bags over their head. He also observed the fire department carry out a female who was
later identified as Rachel Thompson and that she was on a gurnee and that there was melted
plastic on her face. That the fire department cut the melted plastic off the face of Rachel
Thompson who appeared to be deceased. At that scene the two toddlers were identified as
Torian Thompson-Carter who was 5 years old and Jaden Thompson who was 3 years old.
3. The reports of Detective Steve Caballero, a homicide detective with the City of Milwaukee
Police Department, reveal that on the date of February 26, 2010, at 5:05 a.m., he was
dispatched to 836 S. 12th Street. The upper residence is 836 S. 12th Street. On arriving there
Detective Caballero was told that the three victims who were identified as Rachel Thompson,
DOB 06/25/1986, Torian Thompson Carter, DOB 08/18/05, and Jaden Thompson, DOB
02/15/2007, were taken out of the residence at 836 S. 12th Street which was on fire. They were
taken out of the residence by the Milwaukee Fire Department. All three of these people were
deceased and were pronounced deceased by medical investigator Michael Simley of the
Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office. Detective Caballero observed Rachel Thompson
who was lying on her back in the med unit at the scene. She had duct tape over her eyes with
her head turned slightly to the right. There appeared to be blunt force trauma and soot covering
her body. There also appeared to be stab wounds. She also had duct tape around her left wrist
and that her ankles were duct taped together. Detective Caballero also looked at Torian
Anthony Edward Barnes Jr, DOB: 10/02/1986
Desmond Dejuan Laster, DOB: 07/30/1988 Page 4 of 11
Thompson-Carter and observed that he had a white plastic bag over his head and there
appeared to be duct tape on the 5 year old, Torian Thompson-Carter’s mouth underneath the
plastic bag that was on his head. On turning Torian Thompson-Carter over, his hands were tied
behind his back with duct tape over the sleeves of his sweatshirt. He was also wearing school
uniform pants. He also had duct tape on his feet. Detective Caballero also observed the body
of Jaden Thompson and observed that Jaden Thompson had a white plastic bag over his head
and there was duct tape over the outside of the bag over his mouth. The 3 year old Jaden
Thompson’s hands were also duct taped and they were duct taped out in front of him. He was
also duct taped around his ankles.
4. Complainant further alleges that the bodies of Rachel Thompson, Torian Thompson-Carter
and Jaden Thompson were transferred to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The results of that autopsy, which was done by Dr. Brian Peterson, the deputy medical
examiner for Milwaukee County revealed the following, and that these autopsies were done on
February 26, 2010. The autopsy of Rachel Thompson revealed that there was duct tape around
her ankles, a strip of duct tape over her eyes, some twisted duct tape by her neck around her
hair and a loop of duct tape around her left wrist. There was a scratch on her thigh. Dr.
Peterson removed the duct tape from Rachel Thompson’s eyes and observed a stab wound
through the duct tape just to the left of her left eye. There were three stab wounds on the left
upper arm which one stab wound appeared to be through and through. There were three more
stab wounds to her left shoulder. There was another stab wound under her left arm and one
just below the shoulder. There was fire soot and evidence of heat from the mid-chest down to
the waist and from the neck up. The rest of the body was protected by clothing. There were
three cuts to her index and middle finger and a cut to the back of her finger. There was also
sharp blunt force trauma injuries and there were approximately 12 of those. There was a stab
wound to the face and melted plastic in the eye area near where her eyes were duct taped.
There was a large stab wound to the center of her throat and a large stab wound on the right
side of her neck which appeared to be jagged in appearance. This is consistent with the knife
being forced into her throat and moved around. There were other stab wounds to the base of
her throat and left chest. There was also a contusion with stippling of blood to the surface of the
skin at her right cheek bone. It was the opinion of Dr. Brian Peterson that the stab wound to the
chest struck the anterior right ventricle resulting in blood to the chest cavity. The left lung was
also stabbed. There was a large skull fracture with a one inch piece of bone forced into the
brain. There was a bone chip in line with a 3 to 4 inch straight line fracture at the top of her
head radiating fractures down to the right side and across the eye orbit which is called a hinged
fracture of the skull. There was also a fracture to the left side of her head. It was the opinion of
Dr. Peterson that the culmination of these injuries, that being the blunt force trauma and the
stab wounds, was the cause of death of Rachel Thompson.
5. Complainant further alleges that Dr. Peterson did an autopsy of the 5 year old boy, Torian
Thompson-Carter. Torian Thompson-Carter’s ankles were found with duct tape. His hands
were bound behind his back with duct tape wrapped around his wrists over his sweatshirt.
There were two plastic bags of the same type over his head bound with duct tape around his
neck so he could not breathe. There were three pieces of duct tape over his face, one piece of
his eye, one piece covered almost all of his nose and one piece was over the mouth. A small
gap in the tape was over the tip of the nose but it did not appear wide enough to breathe
through. There was foam and fluid on the face of the child along with blood mixture. Dr.
Peterson found to a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the cause of death of Torian
Thompson-Carter was asphyxia.
6. Complainant further alleges that Dr. Brian Peterson also did an autopsy on the 3 years old
child, Jaden Thompson. Jaden Thompson was 40 inches in height and weighed 36 pounds.
Anthony Edward Barnes Jr, DOB: 10/02/1986
Desmond Dejuan Laster, DOB: 07/30/1988 Page 5 of 11
There was a plastic bag over his head sealed with duct tape around his neck. He did not have
any duct tape over his face. There was mucus in his nose and foaming on his face. It was the
opinion of Dr. Peterson to a reasonable degree of medical certainty that Jaden Thompson died
of asphyxia from smothering.
7. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Walter Cappelli reveal that on the
date of February 26, 2010, he went to the Diamond Inn at 6222 W. Fond du Lac Avenue in the
City of Milwaukee. There he spoke to a woman by the name of Latisha Moody. Ms. Moody is
the night manager at the Diamond Inn. Ms. Moody stated that a person who she positively
identified as Brittney Robertson checked into the Diamond Inn at 5:15 a.m. on February 26,
2010, with a African American male and a baby. Ms. Moody positively identified this African
American male as Anthony Barnes and that Mr. Barnes gave to her a Wisconsin Department of
Corrections offender card as identification and that she kept this in her records. She further
stated that another African American male came in with Brittney Robertson and Anthony
Barnes. Latisha Moody was shown a photo array by Detective Michael Sarenac and she
positively identified a picture of Desmond Laster as the person who was with Brittney Robertson
and Anthony Barnes at the Diamond Inn at 5:15 a.m. on February 26, 2010.
8. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Steven Caballero reveal that he
spoke to a man by the name of Kevin Holter, an adult citizen witness who is believed to be a
reliable person. Kevin Holter stated that he has known Brittney Robertson for a number of
years. He stated that on the date of February 26, 2010, he received a call from Brittney
Robertson. The phone call was at 5:34 p.m. Brittney Robertson asked him if he had seen the
news where a woman and her two children were murdered that morning. Brittney Robertson
was crying. Mr. Holter asked Brittney Robertson, “Did you do it?” Brittney Robertson
responded, “Yes, I did it.” Brittney Robertson then began explaining how she went about killing
the three people. She stated that it was her ex-boyfriend’s baby’s mama and her kids. She
stated that she stabbed the woman with a knife a number of times and that the knife broke off in
the woman’s chest. She stated that she then ran to the kitchen and got another knife and
continued to stab the woman some more. She stated that she then shot the woman twice in the
chest and once in the head. Ms. Robertson further told Mr. Holter that she killed her two kids.
Ms. Robertson began talking about wanting to kill herself and that she has one bullet in the
chamber.
9. Complainant further alleges that on the date of February 26, 2010, Identification Technician
Sylvia Gerasch developed fingerprint impressions from a plastic bag around the head of Torian
Thompson-Carter and also on a piece of duct tape that was around the head of Torian
Thompson-Carter.
10. These fingerprints were examined by Chief Latent Print Examiner Douglas Knueppel.
Douglas Knueppel compared these fingerprints with the known fingerprints of Desmond D.
Laster, DOB 07/30/1988 and found that the fingerprint on the plastic bag around the head of
Torian Thompson-Carter were from Desmond Laster to the exclusion of anyone else. Also the
fingerprint found on the piece of duct tape attached to the plastic bag that was around the head
of Torian Thompson-Carter also matched the known fingerprint of Desmond Laster, DOB
07/30/1988. These fingerprints of Desmond D. Laster were on file with the City of Milwaukee
Police Department that are kept in the ordinary and regular course of business of the City of
Milwaukee Police Department and this opinion by Chief Latent Print Examiner Douglas
Knueppel is to a reasonable degree of professional certainty. Further, the person in booking
photo of Desmond D. Laster, DOB 07/30/1988, was the picture of the same person shown to
Latisha Moody who identified that person as the person who was with Anthony Barnes and
Brittney Robertson who came to the Diamond Inn at 5:15 a.m. on the date of February 26, 2010.

11. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Larry Schimke who is a trained
arson investigator with the City of Milwaukee Police Department went to the address of 836 S.
12th Street at approximately 5:30 a.m. on February 26, 2010. It was the findings of Detective
Larry Schimke, who is trained in fire investigations, that the cause of the fire is incendiary arson
and that there were two points of origin with the fire with no line of communication, one at the
base of the front door and the second in the north central bedroom. Detective Schimke further
found two cans of lighter fluid in the residence and a rag and burnt materials of that rag on the
third shelf in the front room of the residence at 836 S. 12th Street. It is the opinion of Detective
Larry Schimke to a reasonable degree of professional certainty that the fire occurred in the
residence of Rachel Thompson at 836 S. 12th Street on February 26, 2010, was incendiary and
was caused by arson. Further, the reports of Detective Larry Schimke revealed that he spoke to
the owner of the residence at 836 S. 12th Street, that being Mr. Frank D. Primozich. Mr.
Primozich indicated that he did not give consent for anyone to set fire to the residence at 836 S.
12th Street.
12. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Gilbert Carrasco reveal that he
spoke to a man by the name of Brad Hoeppner. Mr. Hoeppner states that he is a friend of
Brittney Robertson. He stated that on February 26, 2010, sometime in the area of 3:00 p.m., he
called Brittney Robertson. Brittney Robertson began crying and indicated that she had done a
murder and that she had been planning on doing it for a week and that she can’t believe that
she did it. She said that it had to do with the baby’s father which is Maurice Visor, Jr., and that
she was in love with Maurice Visor. She stated that she had dropped the baby off at a church
after the killing and that she hated Rachel Thompson and that she had killed Rachel Thompson
and Rachel Thompson’s two kids because they belong to Rachel Thompson. She stated that
she was going to kill herself. She further stated that she had done the killings with other people
and that there were other people involved.
13. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Paul Lough reveal that on the date
of February 26, 2010, he was sent to a homicide at 10166 W. Kiehnau. On arriving there he
observed the body of Brittney Robertson. Ms. Robertson had suffered a gunshot wound to the
back of her head and that she was lying in the rear yard of 10166 W. Kiehnau Street in the City
of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and that Brittney Robertson was deceased.
Detective Lough then spoke to Jonathan Williams. Mr. Williams stated that he lives at 10166 W.
Kiehnau. He stated that at about 6:00 p.m. he was upstairs in his home watching TV and that
he heard a gunshot outside his window by his back patio. He got up from his bed and ran
downstairs. He heard the wooden gate to his fence slam shut. He then observed a woman
lying on her side in his back yard bleeding from the nose in a puddle of blood who was not
breathing. He checked her pulse and did not find one. Mr. Jonathan Williams stated that he
then obtained a blanket and put it over the victim and he called police.
14. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective James Hutchinson interviewed a
female by the name of Sheri Tyler who stated that on the date of February 26, 2010, she was
exiting her residence and observed two black males jump into a white Pontiac Grand Prix and
left the scene at a high rate of speed. Seconds later, a neighbor by the name of Jonathan
Williams inquired if she had heard a gunshot.
15. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Officer Steven Jegen reveal that on the date
of February 26, 2010, he was sent to 10166 W. Kiehnau. There he observed a white female
who was identified as Brittney Robertson who was lying in the rear of 10166 W. Kiehnau
Avenue in a small fenced in patio area. She had a gunshot wound to the back of her head and
that there was a significant amount of blood around her. She did not have a pulse and she was

not breathing. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Medical Examiner Investigator
Gene Wiedemeyer of the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.
16. The body of Brittney Robertson was then taken to the Milwaukee County Medical
Examiner’s Office where an autopsy was performed on Brittney Robertson by Dr. Christopher
Happy who is the medical examiner for Milwaukee County. The results of that autopsy revealed
that Brittney Robertson had received a gunshot wound to the back of her head and that the
gunshot wound caused damage to the brain and skull and exited out her nose. It was the
opinion of Dr. Christopher Happy, the medical examiner for Milwaukee County, to a reasonable
degree of medical certainty that Brittney Robertson died from the gunshot wound to the back of
her head.
17. Complainant further alleges that the reports of Detective Christopher Blaszak and Detective
Paul Lough reveal that on the date of March 3, 2010, he advised Anthony Barnes of his Miranda
rights and Anthony Barnes gave a statement which is believed to be reliable because it is
against his penal interest. Anthony Barnes stated that he is now housed at a group home at 2nd
and Concordia and that he was housed there on Friday, February 26, 2010, at approximately
3:30 a.m. He indicated that he was at the group home watching movies and he received a call
from Desmond Laster. He stated that Desmond Laster told him that he needed to help his
girlfriend move out of her house and that he would be by to pick him up. Mr. Barnes stated that
Mr. Laster picked him up shortly thereafter in front of the group home at 2nd and Concordia. Mr.
Laster had two guns that he had seen before but he did not see these guns when Mr. Laster
picked him up. Mr. Barnes stated that Mr. Laster then drove to the south side of Milwaukee and
that they drove to a residence at 836 S. 12th Street where Mr. Barnes knew that Desmond
Laster’s girlfriend Brittney Richardson lived there. They parked in front of this residence. Mr.
Barnes stated that he also learned that Rachel Thompson lived in that residence with her
children and Brittney Robertson. They parked in front of the residence and Mr. Barnes stated
he then knew that they were there to rob Rachel Thompson. Desmond Laster told him before
they went inside that they were going to rob her and tie her up. Mr. Barnes stated that Mr.
Laster then instructed Mr. Barnes to go up into the residence of Rachel Thompson and go into
the bedroom and look through coats and purses for money. Brittney Robertson told Mr. Laster
that Rachel Thompson had money in her bedroom and Mr. Laster relayed this to Mr. Barnes.
Mr. Barnes stated that he had never met Brittney Robertson before. Prior to exiting the car and
entering the residence at 836 S. 12th Street, Mr. Laster and Mr. Barnes exited the car and Mr.
Laster asked Mr. Barnes to reach into the back seat and grab two cans of lighter fluid which Mr.
Barnes did. Mr. Barnes indicated he carried the light fluid into the residence. Brittney
Robertson opened the door for them and led them upstairs into the kitchen. Mr. Barnes then
gave the lighter fluid to Brittney Robertson and she placed them on the kitchen counter. Mr.
Barnes stated that when they were in the kitchen they turned the light off and the living room
was illuminated by the television that was on and that Rachel Thompson was on the couch and
that Jaden Thompson was lying on the couch with Rachel Thompson and that Rachel
Thompson appeared to be asleep but Jaden Thompson the 3 year old child was awake. Torian
Thompson-Carter, the 5 year old child, was also in the living room seated on another couch in
the living room and was awake. Desmond Laster then instructed Mr. Barnes to go into a
bedroom that had the door open. Mr. Barnes went into the bedroom and checked 2 or 3 coats
and 1 purse for money but he did not find any money. At that time the 5 year old boy Torian
Thompson-Carter said, “Hi Des” to Desmond Laster. Brittney Robertson told Torian Thompson-
Carter to be quiet, that Desmond Laster and Rachel Thompson remained in the living room and
that Mr. Barnes then went into the living room and Desmond Laster then went up to Rachel
Thompson who was sleeping on the couch and woke her up by punching her in the face. As
Rachel Thompson woke up Mr. Laster said to her, “You know what this is, where is all the shit?”
At that time Mr. Barnes asked Brittney Robertson for a beer and he drank a beer. When

Desmond Laster punched Rachel Thompson in the face Torian Thompson-Carter began crying
and Brittney Robertson told him to be quiet. At that time Desmond Laster instructed Mr. Barnes
to cover Rachel Thompson’s eyes at which time he put his hand down and covered her eyes.
Desmond Laster then pulled out gray duct tape and placed a strip over her mouth and eyes.
Desmond Laster then sat on Rachel Thompson’s stomach and her hands and asked her where
the money was. Rachel Thompson said that the money was in the bedroom. Mr. Laster then
stated, “No it’s not, we already checked.” Rachel Thompson then replied, “Yes it is.” Brittney
Robertson then stated, “Where?” and Rachel Thompson said, “In the jacket.” Brittney
Robertson then went into that room where Mr. Barnes had just searched and Brittney Robertson
came out with money. She handed the money to Desmond Laster and put it in his pocket.
Desmond Laster then got off of Rachel Thompson and asked Mr. Barnes to grab Rachel
Thompson’s hands. Rachel Thompson’s hands were now crossed at the wrist in front of her
and Mr. Barnes indicated that he put his hands down on her top wrist to hold them down so Mr.
Laster could duct tape her hands together restraining her. Desmond Laster then asked Rachel
Thompson, “Where’s the gun at?” and she said it was in the closet. Desmond Laster then went
into the closet and a few minutes later came back with a black Glock handgun. Mr. Barnes
stated that Desmond Laster then pulled the magazine out to ensure that the gun was loaded
and then inserted it back into the magazine. Mr. Barnes was still drinking his beer at that time.
Brittney Robertson was then talking trash to Rachel Thompson as if she had a personal
vendetta against her. Brittney Robertson stated to Ms. Thompson, “What type of bitch are you
to have your baby’s daddy’s other girl living with you?” At that time Torian Thompson-Carter
began crying louder. Desmond Laster told Brittney Robertson to grab him. Brittney Robertson
then grabbed the 5 year old boy, Torian Robertson-Carter and forced him down to the floor. At
that time Mr. Barnes was standing over where Rachel Thompson was. Mr. Barnes stated that
the kitchen light was on. That the two bedroom lights were also on and that the TV illuminated
the area. As Brittney Robertson forced Torian to the ground, Rachel Thompson said, “What’s
going on?” Rachel Thompson told Torian to calm down. Rachel Thompson at this point was
bound by the hands in front of her and also her mouth and eyes were then covered. Mr. Barnes
indicated that her feet were not bound yet. Desmond Laster then helped Brittney Robertson tie
up Torian Thompson-Carter’s arms behind his back with duct tape. Both Desmond Laster and
Brittney Robertson were biting strips of duct tape off the roll and using it on Torian Thompson-
Carter’s hands. At that time Desmond Laster reached into his pocket and pulled out a white
plastic garbage bag and that two other garbage bags fell out. Mr. Barnes now knew that there
was going to be some murder going on. Desmond Laster then placed the plastic bag over
Torian Thompson-Carter’s head and the 5 year old Torian Thompson-Carter began struggling
with him. Mr. Barnes told Desmond Laster that he did not want to be here and Desmond Laster
told Mr. Barnes to calm down. Desmond Laster then wrapped duct tape around the bag that
was on Torian Thompson-Carter’s neck and carried him into the bathroom and put him in the
bathtub with the plastic bag over his head with the duct tape, taping the plastic bag to his head.
Desmond Laster then came back out and told Brittney Robertson to grab the cans of lighter fluid
and some knives. Brittney Robertson then handed Mr. Barnes a can of lighter fluid which he
tossed to Desmond Laster. Desmond Laster then opened his can of lighter fluid and began
squirting around the front living room. Brittney Robertson opened her lighter fluid and began
squirting it also around the room. Brittney Robertson then gave one of the cans of lighter fluid to
Mr. Barnes and Mr. Barnes tossed it to Desmond Laster. Desmond Laster then opened it and
squirted it into the front living room. While the lighter fluid was being squirted around the house
that Jaden Thompson, the 3 year old child, was still on the couch with Rachel Thompson. Mr.
Barnes stated that he then walked into the bedroom that he had first searched and that he, Mr.
Barnes, put some lighter fluid in that bedroom. Desmond Laster yelled out to Brittney
Robertson and asked her if she had everything. She stated, “Yes, everything except the infant
baby and his basket.” Desmond Laster then asked Mr. Barnes to grab the 3 year old, Jaden
Thompson, and Mr. Barnes said no. Mr. Laster then grabbed the 3 year old, Jaden Thompson.
Anthony Edward Barnes Jr, DOB: 10/02/1986
Desmond Dejuan Laster, DOB: 07/30/1988 Page 9 of 11
Mr. Barnes stated at this point no one was holding him against his will and he stayed there to
watch what would happen. Brittney Robertson then said, “Fuck it, I’ll grab him.” Mr. Barnes
indicated that Brittney Robertson then went up to Jaden, the 3 year old child, and grabbed him.
Mr. Barnes indicated that he did not want to be part of this anymore and walked into the kitchen.
He then heard Brittney Robertson state to Jaden Thompson, “Come here, we’re going to play a
little game.” He indicated that Desmond Laster and Brittney Robertson then placed Jaden
Thompson onto the couch and Mr. Barnes could now see them from the kitchen. He stated that
Desmond Laster and Brittney Robertson then taped the hands of the 3 year old child, Jaden
Thompson, in front and that Desmond Laster grabbed another garbage bag and placed it over
the head of the 3 year old child, Jaden Thompson, and started duct taping this bag around the 3
year olds, Jaden Thompson’s head. Jaden Thompson was struggling and that he slipped off
the couch. Brittney Robertson then indicated that it was not working and she grabbed a knife.
Mr. Barnes indicated that Brittney Robertson then stuck the knife into Jaden Thompson’s neck,
that being the 3 year old child. Mr. Barnes indicated that Desmond Laster then carried Jaden
Thompson and put him in the bathtub with his 5 year old brother, Torian. Brittney Robertson,
with the same knife she used to stab Jaden Thompson, went over to Rachel Thompson and
began stabbing her a number of times in the body and chest area. The knife broke off. Brittney
Robertson then jumped up and grabbed another knife. Brittney Robertson then straddled
Rachel Thompson and stabbed her again several times in the chest and the second knife broke.
Brittney Robertson then got up off of Rachel Thompson and Rachel Thompson fell to the floor.
Rachel Thompson was still alive and asked Brittney Robertson why this was happening.
Desmond Laster then grabbed another knife and went up to Rachel Thompson and grabbed her
by the hair and it appeared as if he was slashing her in the throat. Brittney Robertson then
grabbed the infant boy, Maurice Visor Jr., and walked toward the back door where Mr. Barnes
was with Desmond Laster and approached Mr. Barnes. Desmond Laster stated that Rachel
Thompson was still alive and gave Mr. Barnes the gun. Mr. Laster stated that he cut her and
asked Mr. Barnes to shoot her. Desmond Laster stated, “I killed the babies.” At this time Mr.
Barnes took the Glock handgun and walked into the living room where Rachel Thompson was
leaning against the couch on the floor. He indicated that Rachel Thompson was moving a little
bit. Mr. Barnes indicated that he stood over Rachel Thompson as she laid on the floor. He then
closed his eyes and aimed the gun at her and fired a shot but he doesn’t know if he shot her or
not. He then went by the back door. Desmond Laster then asked for a lighter and Mr. Barnes
gave him one. Desmond Laster then lit a blanket on fire that was in the room where they
obtained the money and the gun. Desmond Laster then tried to light a door on fire and that the
smoke detectors went off. They all ran outside and Desmond Laster got into the car and Mr.
Barnes then got into the car with Desmond Laster and Brittney Robertson. They then drove to
the Diamond Inn. Upon arriving at the Diamond Inn Desmond Laster and Brittney Robertson
went inside and that they tried to check in. Mr. Barnes stated that they received a total of $800
from robbing Rachel Thompson and that Desmond Laster then gave Mr. Barnes $50 to $100.
Anthony Barnes indicated that he then carried some items into the hotel room for the baby. The
three of them, that being Desmond Laster, Anthony Barnes and Brittney Robertson were inside
of the hotel and they began talking. They then decided to go and leave to go to Park Lawn.
Desmond Laster had the gun. The baby, Maurice Visor, was sleeping on the bed in the motel.
Mr. Barnes indicated that he then left the motel some time around 9:00 a.m. by himself and
went to a gas station at 60th and Fond du Lac Avenue and then took a bus to the area of 18th
and Capitol. Mr. Barnes then met up with Desmond Laster later in the day. Mr. Laster told him
that they were going to pick up Brittney Robertson. At this time Mr. Barnes grabbed a gun, the
same gun that he has used at the scene of Rachel Thompson and the children’s murder. Mr.
Barnes was then told by Desmond Laster that he has to take the gun which is wrapped it in a tshirt
out and hid it so that Brittney Robertson doesn’t see it. Desmond Laster then told Mr.
Barnes that they were going to kill Brittney Robertson because “she’s got to go.” Mr. Laster
indicated that Brittney Robertson had become “too hot” and Desmond Laster and Anthony
Anthony Edward Barnes Jr, DOB: 10/02/1986
Desmond Dejuan Laster, DOB: 07/30/1988 Page 10 of 11
Barnes then got into a white Pontiac and Mr. Barnes unwrapped the gun and handed it to
Desmond Laster. They then drove to Dineen Park where they picked up Brittney Robertson.
Brittney Robertson was acting hyper because her face was on TV all day. Mr. Barnes then
drove with Desmond Laster to around Mill Road and Hwy 100. They told Brittney Robertson
that they were going to get marijuana, but that Mr. Barnes was aware that they were going to kill
her. They then parked near some townhouses near Hwy 100 and Mill Road and that Desmond
Laster and Brittney Robertson got out of the vehicle. Mr. Barnes got out of the vehicle after
them. Mr. Barnes had his black pistol in his right pocket. Brittney Robertson and Desmond
Laster were walking ahead of him and they walked through a wooden gate near a townhouse.
Desmond Laster then got out of the way and told Mr. Barnes “now.” Mr. Barnes indicated that
Brittney Robertson was close to the house. Mr. Barnes stated that he then took out the gun
from his right pocket and shot Brittney Robertson in the back of the head. He had the gun close
enough to her that he knew that he could not miss. He fired one shot at Brittney Robertson and
that she fell. He and Desmond Laster then ran away. They shot her because she was “hot”
and she was going to get caught and tell on them. They both then drove back to West Lawn.
18. There was a bullet and casing found by the City of Milwaukee Police Department at the
scene of 10166 W. Kiehnau Avenue where Brittney Robertson was shot. There was also a
bullet and casing found at the arson scene and the homicide scene at 836 S. 12th Street. Those
items were taken to the Wisconsin Regional Crime Laboratory and examined by Technician
Kyle Anderson and it was found that the bullets were fired from the same gun. It was also
revealed that the casings were fired from the same gun.

Desmond Laster&Anthony Barnes GUILTY in 1st-degree intentional homicide & arson in the deaths of Rachel Thompson & her two children & the murder of Brittney Robertson in Wisc./WARNING, GRAPHIC!!/Laster Gets 4 life terms w/ no parole! Empty Trial starts Sept. 20

Post by Nama Wed Jun 16, 2010 11:26 pm

A September trial has been set for two men accused in the killings of two women and two boys in Milwaukee.

Twenty-one-year-old Desmond Laster and 23-year-old Anthony Barnes have pleaded not guilty to four counts each of first-degree intentional homicide and arson, all as party to a crime, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

They are accused of going with 19-year-old Brittney Robertson to her apartment and helping rob her roommate Rachel Thompson. A criminal complaint says Robertson stabbed Thompson and helped Laster suffocate Thompson's 3- and 4-year-old sons Feb. 26.

Robertson and Laster are accused of setting the apartment ablaze before taking Thompson's 6-week-old son. Robertson later left him outside a church before Barnes allegedly shot her to death.

There's a motion hearing July 7. Their trial starts Sept. 20.

I wont call them animals because I love animals
but there are no words for me to describe these sub-humans and the crimes they committed.
I hope if they are found guilty and that they hang them.

Two men accused of quadruple murder found guilty
22-year-old Desmond Laster was found guilty of killing two children, and two women in Milwaukee. Laster and his friend Anthony Barnes accompanied 19-year-old Brittney Robertson to rob her roommate Rachel Thompson. The robbery went awry, turning into a quadruple murder.

Barnes made a deal with prosecutors that will possibly give him 30-35 years in prison, instead of life in prison. He plead guilty to four amended counts of the original six counts he faced. The other two were dismissed.

Barnes is facing 163.75 years in jail, and 61.25 years of probation. His sentencing has been set for July 18, 2011. Laster's sentencing is set for June 10, 2011.

Laster Convicted in Quadruple Homicide, Arson

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Milwaukee man will be sentenced June 10th, after a jury found him guilty in the slayings of his girlfriend, two children, and their mother.

22-year-old Desmond Laster was convicted Thursday on 4 counts of being a party to homicide, plus arson and possessing a gun as a convicted felon. A co-defendant, 24-year-old Anthony Barnes, testified against Laster during his two-week trial in exchange for a lesser conviction.

Authorities said they went to the apartment of Laster’s girlfriend Brittney Robertson in February of last year, to help rob her roommate Rachel Thompson as part of a love spat. Officials said Robertson stabbed Thompson to death, and she helped Laster suffocate Thompson’s 3 and 4-year-old boys.

They then started the apartment on fire and ran off with Robertson’s 6-week-old son. She abandoned the infant at a church. And Barnes killed Robertson later the same day, fearing she’d cooperate with police.

Barnes said Laster ordered the slaying. During the trial, Laster claimed he was elsewhere when all the victims were killed. But 5 of his witnesses refused to testify, saying Laster called them from jail last weekend and they didn’t want to incriminate themselves.

Laster gets life without parole in four homicides

Desmond Dejuan Laster was sentenced Friday to four life terms without chance of parole for killing two little boys, their mother and a female accomplice last year.

A jury in March convicted Laster, 22, of four counts of being party to the crime of first-degree intentional homicide, as well as of arson and of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Laster made no statement during his sentencing hearing before Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Conen.

Evidence presented at his trial showed that Laster and two accomplices - Brittney Robertson, 19, and Anthony Barnes, 24 -- went to 23-year-old Rachel Thompson's south side apartment in February 2010.

The group bound and stabbed Thompson, suffocated her two sons, set her apartment on fire and fled with Thompson's 6-week-old baby.

The baby was found unharmed at a church a few hours later.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Williams told jurors the group had been fueled by Robertson's jealousy of Thompson.

Barnes, at Laster's direction, shot Robertson in the head later that day.

Barnes testified against Laster and has pleaded guilty to three counts of felony murder for the deaths of Thompson and her children and one count of first-degree reckless homicide for killing Robertson.

Barnes is scheduled to be sentenced by Conen July 18th.
