ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A 4-year-old boy and his grandmother are missing in Altamonte Springs, authorities said Wednesday night.
“I want my grandson, and I want Ramona back now,” said Linda Kaplan, who is the boy’s other grandmother.
Kaplan showed up to 43-year-old Ramona McCoy's apartment frantic after learning that McCoy and her grandson, Christian Longhurst, haven't been seen since Tuesday night.
“I think it is very strange, and something is wrong,” said Kaplan.
Altamonte Springs police said McCoy took Christian outside their apartment at The Landings off Sandlake Road and State Road 434 in Altamonte Springs and vanished.
“The adult sent a text message to her daughter indicating that she was going to take the young child for a tricycle ride. That was approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 24,” said Brian Lipsey, with the Altamonte Springs Police Department.
A neighbor said she saw the two when she was coming home. Police said they don't have any suspects, but they spent hours questioning the boy's mother, Brandy Steadman.
Kaplan said she knows something isn't right. She said she wouldn't be surprised if Steadman had a hand in the pair's disappearance. Kaplan said Steadman has tried to use the boy and threatened to take him away because she had lost custody of the child.
However, Steadman is not a suspect, police said.
Altamonte Springs police said it’s a strange case so far and hope anyone with information will call the department.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Altamonte Springs Police officers are searching for a missing woman and her grandson.
Ramona Elaine McCoy, 43, and her grandson, 4-year-old Christian Lee Longhurst, were last seen on Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. on foot, in the area of Sandlake Road and SR 434.
Altamonte Police tell us that the two live at The Landing Apartments with Brandy Steadman, the boy's mother.
Brandy received a text from Ramona who stated she was taking Christian for a tricycle ride in the area Sandlake Road & SR 434. The two never returned home.
The boy's paternal grandmother contacted us Wednesday very concerned.
She wanted us to know that 4 year old Christian has the same birth mark that she has here on her leg.
This grandmother says although her son and Christian's mother are no longer together, she's very close to the family and doesn't know what to do at this point.
"I have no idea. I'll go with the area you told me about. Hopefully somebody knows something and hopefully police or who ever has the case is really doing something about it to find them. I don't know. This isn't like her at all. She's very smart very responsible very intelligent woman" said Linda Kaplan.
Police continue to make contact with all family members including the missing grandmother's husband whom she recently is separated from.
Ramona is described as 5 feet, 4 inches and weighing 140 pounds. Christian is described as 3 feet tall and weighing 60 pounds. There is no clothing description. Christian was possibly riding a red Radio Flyer tricycle.
If you have any information about Ramona and
Christian Longhurst, please call the Altamonte Springs Police Department at (407) 339-2441.

What? So they don't think Grandma kidnapped Christian? Abductions don't usually include Grandma. So I wonder if she is hiding him for some reason.

Police Searching Area Near Landings Condos In Altamonte Springs
POSTED: Thursday, May 26, 2011
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A grandmother and her 4-year-old grandson disappeared after going for a walk late Tuesday evening in Altamonte Springs, police said.
Detectives spent Wednesday talking to the boy's mother, Brandy Steadman, 23, inside the home the three share at the Landings Condominiums in Atlamonte Springs.
Police told WKMG-TV that Ramona McCoy sent a text message to her daughter around 8:30 p.m. saying she was taking Christian Longhurst for a walk. Police believe Longhurst may have been riding a red Radio Flyer tricycle.
Steadman told detectives she was at the beach when her mother sent the text message. She returned home, thinking her son and mother were asleep, said police. When she awoke the next morning, the pair was missing, said police.
"The cop came this morning, knocked on our door," said Sara Shepherd, who lives in the complex. "It's been crazy. There's been a lot of cops, a lot of people, a lot of detectives, a lot of people asking questions."
Police searched the area but were unable to find any clues.
Justin Peeples said he is dating Steadman and said McCoy just ended a relationship.
"Next thing you know, something went wrong with them. I overheard that she broke up with him recently," said Peeples. "Just hope nothing had has happened to them."
Police said there are no previous incidents that would indicate foul play.
Anyone with information, is urged to call Altamonte Springs police at 407-339-2441.

Thank God they were found. Now I wonder what the story is? The Grandma legally adopted him? Did I read that right?
