A former Texas high school English teacher and mother of three is on trial, accused of having sex with five male students.
The evidence against Brittni Colleps, 28, includes cell phone video that allegedly shows group sex between her and four students at her home. Prosecutors say it happened while her children and husband, who is an Army specialist stationed out-of-state, were away. The graphic video was shown to the jury this week.
"She [Colleps] said that she craved, that I had something that she wanted," one of the students involved testified.
Police say the alleged incident took place at her Arlington, Texas home in April and May of 2011, according to ABC News affiliate WFAA. Since all of the students were 18 at the time of the alleged incident, Colleps is not facing statutory rape charges. Instead, she has been hit with five counts of having an improper relationship with a student.
One student told WFAA that one of the teenage boys was bragging about the alleged incident and another student put the claim in her diary. A teacher at the school found the diary in a classroom and that's when the school notified police.
Some of the students, who were attending Kennendale High School, took the stand on Tuesday but were not identified because of their ages and the nature of the crime, according to WFAA.
One of those students said his relationship began with an innocent text message. "Hey… It's Coach Colleps. Do you know what time the baseball game starts?"
Soon after that the student says that he and Colleps were exchanging almost 100 texts a day. The prosecutor says that the relationship progressed into explicit text messages and then an agreement to meet for sex.
One of the young men she is accused of sleeping with has publicly stated that she didn't commit a crime.
Colleps' husband, Christopher, is sticking by his wife despite the accusations.
"If you know Brittni, you know she's an empathetic loving, loyal person. Brittni is a loving mother and continuously puts the needs of our children above her own," Christopher Colleps said before the trial began.
Brittni Colleps was suspended by the school district and her contract was not renewed this year, so she is out of work during the trial.
"She's terrified … she has no idea whether she is going to prison next week or whether she will be home," her attorney said.
If Colleps is convicted, she could spend 20 years in prison.

I'll never understand these females who have sex w/ these young kids BUT they were legal adults so she couldn't be charged w/ statuary rape, then it says because of the *victim's* age their names weren't publicized, this doesn't make sense to me. Don't get me wrong, I do NOT endorse teachers having sex w/ kids but if they were legal age then I don't think this stupid, stupid woman deserves 20 years. She sure needs a lot of help thou'!Wrapitup wrote:By Anthony Castellano | ABC News Blogs – 4 hours ago

I agree with all of your comments. There is a female teacher that lives within 5 minutes or so from me that got involved with a high school boy. I do not understand it at all. She is/was married, but I agree with Hippy that she gave up her teaching license for THAT!!!

UPDATE: Kennedale teacher Brittni Colleps Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison
August 18, 2012
It took the jury less than an hour to conclude that Brittni Nicole Colleps, 28, of Arlington, was guilty of 16 counts of having an inappropriate relationship between a student and teacher.
She has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The second-degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison per count.
The former Kennedale High School English teacher had sex with the students at her home over two months in 2011, authorities said.
Colleps is married and has three children. She turned herself in after a cellphone video of one encounter that involved multiple students emerged. That video was shown a trial.
Three former students who testified Thursday said that they did not consider themselves victims and did not want to see their former English teacher prosecuted.
The three were football and track athletes.
Arlington police Detective Jason Houston testified that charges were filed because "18 or not, it's a crime" for a teacher to have sex with her students.
Two former students told jurors their relationships with Colleps began with the exchange of text messages that quickly turned sexual.
A 19-year-old testified that he had gone to Colleps' home twice with friends and they all engaged in sexual conduct.
A former student who is now 20 testified that he engaged in group sex and recorded his last encounter on a cellphone. He said initially the students spoke of the importance of keeping their activities quiet because they didn't want their teacher to get in trouble.
The 20-year-old also said when school officials called him into the office to question him in May 2011, he denied the trysts at first because "I was trying to save her."
Colleps' husband was serving in the military overseas at the time of the encounters. Christopher Colleps said Friday that he is mad at his wife, but stands by her "because 'til death do us part means 'til death do us part."
Putting her in jail would punish him and their children for something they had no control over, he said.
Kennedale is a town of about 7,300 residents near Arlington, eight miles southeast of Fort Worth. The high school has about 3,200 students.
