Evan Sachs, 23, was arrested after he snuck up behind a child at Dave and Buster's in Westbury, L.I.,and stabbed him with the 4-inch hunting knife, cops said.
A deranged Long Island man jammed a hunting knife into an 8-year-old's back five times Friday night while the child played video games at a family restaurant, cops said.
Evan Sachs, 23, crept up behind the child at Dave and Buster's in Westbury, L.I., put his hand on the boy's shoulder and stabbed him with the black 4-inch blade, cops said.
The bleeding child staggered to his mother - sitting just 20 feet away - and collapsed.
His father heard the mother screaming and rushed over. A customer who saw the stabbing approached the dad and told him the attacker was hiding in the bathroom.
Together, they detained Sachs until cops arrived. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The boy was rushed to an area hospital and treated for a partially collapsed lung, among other injuries. He is in stable condition after emergency surgery, police said.
Cops were baffled by the attack. Sachs has no apparent relationship with the boy or his family, cops said, nor does he have a criminal record.
"There's no link between the two at all," said Lt. Kevin Smith of the Nassau County Police Department. "The attack seems to have been unprovoked."
The victim and his parents told police they don't know Sachs or his family, Smith said. They live in different towns and are all different ages.
"They had no interaction at all, and why he plunged a knife into this small boy is unknown," Smith said. "It's just a tragedy that something like this happened. He was there for no other apparent reason but to commit this type of act."

OMG is right. I hope the little boy is going to be okay.
There are a lot of sick people in this world. It does not seem to be safe anywhere for anyone.
I totally agree with you mommyof3kids.

As I was at Dave & Buster's last night I remarked to The Man that even if I wanted to I would not bring a kid there. We were talking about how an adult could hang out there all day-waiting. There are lots of little nooks and crannies where kids could hide, too many people, alcohol, too many differently aged people you don't know--no way.

UPDATE: Evan Sachs Plead Guilty & Sentenced To 14 Years In Prison For Stabbing 8 Year Old Child Playing Video Games At Dave & Buster's
July 21, 2011
A hulking, wild-eyed psycho pleaded guilty Wednesday to stabbing an 8-year-old boy playing video games at a Long Island arcade.
Evan Sachs, 23, will serve 14 years in prison for last year's stabbing at Dave & Buster's in Westbury, prosecutors said.
The horrifying episode unfolded on Oct. 8, 2010, when Sachs - for no apparent reason - pulled out a folding knife and stabbed the boy in the the back five times.
Sachs then ran into a bathroom where he was tackled by the boy's father and another patron.
Cops found a chilling note in Sachs' pocket that indicated he had planned to kill a child.
The boy - who is now 9 - suffered a collapsed lung, but has since recovered, prosecutors said.
"This brutal attack could have turned out much worse if the defendant's true intentions had been realized," said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
At the time of his arrest, Sachs' lawyer said his client had been undergoing psychiatric care and was taking numerous medications.
