Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found SierraLaMar2

Authorities say they have found the cell phone of a missing California girl who disappeared early Friday on her way to school.
The cell phone of 15-year-old Sierra Lamar was discovered in a field a few miles from her home in Morgan Hill, Calif., about 25 miles south of San Jose in Santa Clara County, KTVU-TV reported. Police found the phone Sunday by tracking its electronic ping.
The girl was last seen leaving for school Friday morning. Police dogs searching for the girl lost her scent at the driveway of her home, according to the station.
Investigators scoured creek beds and fields over the weekend for any clues into the girl's disappearance.
"We're hoping she's alive and that's the most important thing right now," the girl's mother, Marlene Lamar, told KTVU.
Sierra Lamar is described as 5-feet, 2 inches tall, with brown hair. She was last seen carrying a pink and black purse.
The teen's sister, Danielle Lamar, said she does not believe her sister ran away.
"She's always in contact with family and friends. She wouldn't leave everyone out of the loop," Danielle Lamar said.
Anyone with information on the teenager's whereabouts is being urged to call the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department at (408) 299-2311.

Search continues for missing Morgan Hill girl

Posted: 03/18/2012 01:21:43 PM PDT

Searchers were combing two Morgan Hill neighborhoods Sunday in the continuing hunt for 15-year-old Sierra Lamar, who vanished Friday morning.

Teams were scouring the area around her home at Dougherty and Palm avenues, where she was last seen about 6 a.m., as well as the girl's school, Sobrato High. She never made it to class and her parents reported her missing Friday when she didn't come home.

However, the search has not come up with much and authorities were not sure if she had run away or had possibly been abducted, said Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

Normally, Cardoza said, there are indications a child planned to run away or the child contacts friends after leaving.

In this case, they have no evidence showing the girl had a troubled home life or planned to run away and she has not contacted anyone. Further complicating the picture is the lack of a witness, so far, who saw anything indicating she was taken against her will.

"We can't confirm one way or the other," said Cardoza, who added that the girl's cellphone is dead and thus cannot be tracked.

At this point police are just trying to confirm the girl, a 10th-grader at Sobrato, went in the direction of her school.

Police said Sierra is 5-foot-2, with a thin build, olive complexion and long dark hair. She was last seen carrying a purse with a black-and-pink design with the brand name, "Juicy," written on it. Police did not say what she was wearing.
Anyone with information can call the Sheriff's Office at 408-299-2311 or 408-808-4500, or the anonymous tip line at 408-808-4431.

Family, deputies search Santa Clara County for missing teen

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. — The search is on for a 15-year-old girl who went missing Friday from her Morgan Hill home.

Sierra Lamar was last seen by her family early Friday morning as she she left her home at Palm and Dougherty avenues for school.

Marlene Lamar, the teen's mother, said she talked to her daughter Friday morning and said goodbye and told her she loved her. Her daughter left the house around 6 a.m.

Sierra never showed up for school Friday.

Lamar didn’t realize this until she received an email from Sobrato High School notifying her of her daughter's absence.

Her mother said she found this alarming because Sierra usually walks to a school bus just before dawn, but the bus driver saw no sign of her, and neither did her friends.

"I can't believe that she wouldn't contact her friends and let them know she's okay," Lamar said. "She would never want us to go through this much pain."

All day Saturday search teams probed the creeks and fields near the Lamar home and scanned for clues from above in the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department helicopter.

"We've flown most of these fields, as far as the eye can see in this direction, all the way up to the foothills on the west side as well," said San Jose Sheriff Sgt. Brett Moore.

Working off her scent, police dogs have traced Sierra's half mile long walk to her bus stop, but the trail goes cold beyond her driveway, suggesting she was picked up.

Investigators are mining her laptop for recent contacts.

But, Sierra is described as happy at home and school and had no relationship trouble or history of running away.

"Did she purposely run away? or did something happen between her house and school," said San Jose Sheriff Sgt. Jose Cardoza. "That's something we're looking at. We're just not sure."

Sierra's cell phone charger was left behind in her room and calls now go straight to voicemail.

Her family is blanketing local shops with her picture and doing all they can to bring her home safe.

"Come home, baby, please come home," said her father Stave Lamar. "You're not in trouble. Everyone wants to see you."

Sierra Lamar is five feet two inches tall with a thin build. She was carrying a pink and black "Juicy" brand purse and possibly wearing a gray San Jose Sharks sweatshirt.

Sierra Lamar case: Vanished without a trace – UPDATE
Posted on March 19, 2012 by Valhall

Reports are stating that investigators were able to locate Sierra’s cell phone by ping activity. It was located in a field about 1 mile from her home. Very very concerning finding.

Friday morning, according to 15-year-old Sierra Lamar’s mother, was just like every other school day. Her mother said bye to her and that she loved her and Sierra walked out the door of the family home to catch her bus. Then things went apparently anything but normal. Sierra never arrived at the bus stop, never made it to school, and hasn’t been seen since. And her case has issues that are rather confusing and concerning.

Investigators say that to date they have found no indication that Sierra was unhappy at home or considering running away. They say that typically some foreshadowing statement is made by a teenager to one of their friends, either in real-life or online, that they are considering running away. That didn’t happen with Sierra Lamar, as far as can be seen so far. She just vanished.

Scent dogs could not track her scent past the end of her own driveway.

Statements made in reports indicate that Sierra’s cell phone may have been with her, but by Saturday they were stating calls went “straight to voicemail”. Those reports also stated her charger was still at her home. They now report the phone battery is dead.

While some are speculating that her scent ending at the family’s own driveway may indicate she was “picked up” by someone, I just can’t see that right now.

What happened to Sierra?

Valhall.

A Morgan Hill teen girl who was last seen Friday morning before heading to school remains missing, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, which led the weekend search efforts for 15-year-old Sierra Lamar, on Monday morning confirmed the girl's cell found was discovered Saturday shortly before 7 p.m. about three-quarters of a mile from her house at Dougherty and Palm avenues, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

Sierra's phone was located at the northeast corner of Scheller Avenue and Santa Teresa Boulevard. Investigators are examining the cell phone and Sierra's computer. They are also interviewing students at Sobrato High School and Fremont's Washington High School, where Sierra attended before transferring to Sobrato last fall.

The sheriff's Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force is also contacting registered sex offenders living in the south county area to determine where they were at the time Sierra disappeared.

The sheriff's office did not release any additional information Monday regarding search efforts.

Searchers spent the weekend scouring the neighborhood around Dougherty and Palm, where she was last seen about 6 a.m. Friday, as the area around Sobrato.

The girl's parents reported her missing Friday when she didn't come home from school.

Sunday, authorities were not sure if she had run away or had possibly been abducted, Cardoza said. Normally there are indications a child planned to run away or the child contacts friends after leaving, Cardoza added.
In this case, they have no evidence showing the girl had a troubled home life or planned to run away and she has not contacted anyone. Further complicating the picture is the lack of a witness, so far, who saw anything indicating she was taken against her will.

Police examine computer, cellphone records of missing California girl Sierra LaMar

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found SierraLaMarflyer

Investigators are poring over computer and cellphone records of a missing California girl in their search for the teen who was last seen early Friday walking to a school bus stop.
Authorities on Monday said they found the cellphone belonging to 15-year-old Sierra LaMar in a field not far from her home in Morgan Hill, Calif., about 25 miles south of San Jose in Santa Clara County.
Fox affiliate KTVU-TV reported Tuesday that police are now examining the phone, as well as the girl's laptop computer, for any clues into her whereabouts.

"We have confirmed that cellphone does belong to Sierra, so we're doing some forensics on that cellphone, trying to get any information we can off that cellphone, as well as her laptop," Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza told the station.
The girl was last seen leaving for school Friday morning. Police dogs searching for the girl lost her scent at the driveway of her home, according to the station.
The teenager usually walked from her home to a nearby bus stop, but a bus driver reportedly said he saw no sign of her.
Investigators have since scoured creek beds and fields in the area, looking for any trace of the girl. Authorities have also interviewed 30 students and faculty members at Sobrato High School, where LaMar recently transferred from another school.
The girl was born and raised in Fremont, Calif., and had attended Washington High School, where she was a cheerleader, before the family relocated to Morgan Hill, KTVU reported.
Authorities are treating her disappearance as a missing persons case, but family and friends of the girl say it's unlikely she ran away. The girl's cellphone charger was also found in her bedroom and her Twitter and Facebook accounts haven't been used since Thursday, leading many to believe she did not plan her disappearance.
"She's always in contact with family and friends. She wouldn't leave everyone out of the loop," her sister, Danielle LaMar, told the station.
Sierra LaMar is described as 5-feet, 2 inches tall, with brown hair. She was last seen carrying a Juicy brand pink and black purse.

Sierra’s mother was notified that her daughter had not attended classes by the school’s automated attendance system at 6 p.m. Friday.
The girl's parents reported her missing Friday when she didn't come home from school.

That was a long time before anybody realized that she was missing...Maybe the failure to attend message should be sent out as soon as attendance is taken? Probably wouldn't have been any better help, but maybe the trail wouldn't be quite as cold. Very sad, but I think somebody knew that she walked to that bus stop each morning and had made plans to grab her ...OR just saw her and took advantage of the opportunity. I hate to say it, but I feel that this is another one that is going to turn out badly. crying

I wonder, since the trail goes cold from her house, if a "friend" driving by picked her up..raped and killed her. If so, it had to be someone she trusted, unless they had a gun. Just the thoughts running through my mind.

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty Missing teen Sierra LaMar’s father is not a suspect

Post by raine1953 Tue Mar 20, 2012 2:30 pm

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's office in California said Tuesday that Sierra LaMar's father is not a person of interest in the disappearance of the 15-year-old Morgan Hill high school sophomore.
The teenager was last seen leaving her home near Palm and Dougherty avenues in unincorporated Morgan Hill early Friday morning. She did not show up for school that day, Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.
Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that her biological father, Steve Wayne LaMar of Fremont, is a registered sex offender.
Deputies interviewed former and current classmates of LaMar as they continue to search for the missing teen.
"He is not a person of interest in Sierra’s disappearance and has been fully cooperative since the beginning of the investigation," authorities said in a statement.
Sierra's mother was notified that her daughter had not attended classes by the school's automated attendance system at 6 p.m. Friday. Investigators located Sierra's cell phone along a local roadway but there is still no sign of the teen. "The cell phone was intact, it wasn't broken," Cardoza said. "There's no evidence to lead to a crime after that."
Cardoza said that while investigators have found no signs of foul play, they have also not seen signs that are common in a runaway situation.
According to Cardoza, there have been no fights at home or any sign that LaMar was unhappy.
"Everything was status quo at home," he said.
Investigators are searching her cell phone and her computer for possible leads, Cardoza said.
At least two teams from the sheriff's Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement task force took to the streets Monday afternoon to make contact with every registered sex offender in the area to confirm their whereabouts at the time of LaMar's disappearance, Cardoza said.
Friends and family members have created a Facebook page to help find missing teenager Sierra LaMar.
Authorities were stationed at Ann Sobrato High School Monday morning speaking to students and gathering information.
"We're all working together to get Sierra back home," school Principal Deborah Padilla said Monday morning.
Deputies also interviewed students at Washington High School in Fremont, where LaMar was previously a student.
Padilla said students have been helping to post fliers and contribute information to the investigation.
Posters bearing LaMar's picture and a description covered utility poles and the windows of local businesses Monday afternoon.
Sierra is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build. She was last seen carrying a Juicy brand black-and-pink purse.

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty Sierra Lamar's Friends Focus of Police

Post by raine1953 Tue Mar 20, 2012 2:49 pm

Police say the fact that missing girl's father is a registered sex offender does not make him a suspect in the case

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department said it will search the Morgan Hill home of a missing teenager Tuesday.

Investigators listed the search as a new detail in their search for Sierra Lamar, who has not been seen since leaving for school last Friday.

Sheriff's investigators said they will also conduct more interviews with Sierra's friends. They said the interviews on Monday did not reveal any useful information.

Investigators in Morgan Hill said they are still performing forensic tests on the girl's cell phone which they found along the side of the road near her home near Palm and Dougherty avenues as if it were tossed from a vehicle. They are also examining her computer.

Also Tuesday, investigators revealed that Sierra's father, Steve Wayne Lamar of Fremont, has a prior conviction of a sexual assault related crime. They stressed he is not a suspect in her disappearance, adding he has been fully cooperative since the investigation began.

His photo is listed on the Megan's Law website (pictured right). The offense is listed as "Lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age." It does not list a date for the conviction. His address is listed as a hotel in Fremont, but people there said he has not lived there for months.

The Sheriff’s Office said its Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team Task Force has been assisting with the investigation and is contacting all known persons convicted of prior sexual assault related crimes in the South County area as a precaution. The purpose of contacting the people with priors in the area is to confirm their whereabouts during the time Sierra went missing. It is done in all missing child cases.

Sheriff’s investigators said they are contacting and interviewing students at both Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill and Washington High School in Fremont for information or leads that could assist in the investigation.

The girl moved to Morgan Hill this year after growing up in Fremont. She has friends at both Washington High School in Fremont and Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill.

All of her friends have told NBC Bay Area that Sierra is not the type to run away.

Flyers and posters cover both campuses in hopes that someone will know something and call police or her family. Her friends in Morgan Hill have planned a candlelight vigil in her honor Tuesday night.

Sierra (pictured above and to the left) is 5 feet 2 inches tall and has a thin build. She was last seen with her Juicy brand black and pink purse.

Sierra's mother gave NBC Bay Area a cell phone photo she said Sierra took the morning before she disappeared. In it she certainly appears to be a typical happy teenager.

Anyone with information about Sierra or her whereabouts is asked to contact Santa Clara County Communications at (408) 299-2311. During business hours, tipsters can call sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431.

I can't put my finger on it, but something bugs me about Sierra missing. If the trail ended at her front drive-way, what the mom said made no sense at all. I don't think she ever made it to the bus stop. I wonder if she even walked out of the house. I am not saying her parent's are involved but something just doesn't click w/me. MOO.

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty Clothes found in bag belong to missing California teen, police say

Post by raine1953 Thu Mar 22, 2012 2:15 pm

These photos, taken from a missing persons flyer, show 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, who was last seen early Friday leaving her Morgan Hill, Calif., home.
The bag found on Sunday contains clothes belonging to a missing California teen, authorities said in a press conference Thursday.
Sgt. Jose Cardozza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office said the pants and shirt found in the bag belonged to 15-year-old Sierra LaMar.
LaMar was last seen as she left for school around 7:15 a.m. Friday.
Cardozza said the items found in the Juicy brand bag located a couple of miles from LaMar's house were confirmed to be hers by her family members.

Police are not able to confirm, however, whether the clothes in the bag were the same clothes she was wearing when she left the house Friday morning. They also would not confirm whether LaMar was known to carry extra clothes with her.
LaMar's phone was recovered Saturday night about three-quarters of a mile from her home after police tracked its electronic ping, but Cardozza said Thursday that the last text sent out was shortly after 7 a.m. Friday and it was not a distress text. He also said there was no forensic evidence on the phone.
There is currently no person of interest in the case, and police are still treating it as a missing person case.
Police said Wednesday that they were interviewing registered sex offenders in the area near where the teen was last seen.
Authorities are questioning the sex crimes offenders who live close to where she disappeared, Fox affiliate KTVU-reported. There are 276 registered sex offenders in the area.
The girl's father, Steve LaMar, who lives some 40 miles away in Fremont, is a registered sex crimes offender but is not considered a suspect in the case, according to the station.
The teen was last seen leaving for school at around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning. Police dogs searching for the girl lost her scent at the driveway of her home, authorities said.
The teenager usually walked from her home to a nearby bus stop, but a bus driver said he saw no sign of her, KTVU-reported.
Family and friends say it is unlikely that LaMar ran away, and her cellphone charger was phone in her bedroom. Her Twitter and Facebook accounts also have not been used since Thursday, leading authorities to believe she did not plan her disappearance.
On Wednesday, hundreds gathered at the Morgan Hill Presbyterian church for a candlelight vigil, including the girl's father, who appeared distraught, KTVU reported.
"If you can hear me, just realize how much I love you and want you back," Marlene LaMar, the teen's mother, said at the vigil.
Sierra, a sophomore at Sobrato High School, lives with her mother and stepfather. She transferred to the school in October after the family moved from Fremont to Morgan Hill. Sierra's father lives in Fremont. She is described as having a very good relationship with her family.
Police say they are also interviewing faculty and friends at both schools for any clues into her whereabouts. They say her family is cooperating with the investigation.
Sierra LaMar is described as 5-feet, 2 inches tall, with brown hair. She was last seen carrying a Juicy brand pink and black purse.
Anyone with information on the teenager's whereabouts is being urged to call the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department at (408) 299-2311.

At a press conference today at 10 a.m., the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that missing 15-year-old Sierra LaMar’s Juicy brand purse was found.
The bag contained a pair of pants and a T-shirt, “neatly folded” inside said Sgt. Jose Cardoza. The bag was found on Santa Theresa Boulevard and Laguna Avenue Sunday afternoon about 1 p.m., a couple of blocks from where her cell phone was found Saturday night near Santa Teresa Boulevard and Scheller Avenue.

Cardoza said that the FBI is assisting in the search.

Missing Sierra LaMar's phone yields no clues

Vivian Ho
Thursday, March 22, 2012

Santa Clara County investigators have examined a missing 15-year-old girl's cell phone and computer but say they have no clues to why she vanished nearly a week ago.

Sierra LaMar was last seen by her family in their home in an unincorporated area near Morgan Hill at about 6 a.m. Friday. Sheriff's investigators say there is no evidence she was the victim of a crime, but they also say there is no sign she ran away.

Sierra posted on Twitter for the last time at about 6:30 a.m. Friday. She usually left to catch a bus to Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill at about 7:10 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.

On Saturday, a search team found her cell phone at the side of the road less than a mile from her home, in the opposite direction from the bus stop. The phone was in one piece, but forensic examinations of it and of her computer have yielded no information about where she might be, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators have questioned more than 50 of Sierra's friends at Sobrato High, where she is a sophomore, and Washington High School in Fremont, which she attended until she moved in with her mother in October. Before that, she lived with her father.

Authorities have also questioned registered sex offenders in the South Bay to determine where they were Friday morning.

Her father, Steve LaMar, released a statement Wednesday admitting he is a convicted sex offender but denying any involvement in his daughter's disappearance.

"I understand the stigma associated with this in my background, and I assure everyone it is not connected in any way to my daughter's disappearance," LaMar said. "I ask that you please not shift the focus away from the investigation and from finding Sierra."

He added, "Please understand, I am a dad, and I want nothing more than to find my missing daughter."

Court documents show that LaMar was originally charged with 12 felony counts of committing lewd or lascivious acts with three children under 14 in March 2009. He pleaded guilty to one count and was sentenced in September 2009 to a year in county jail.

None of the three children was his daughter, documents show.

The Santa Clara County sheriff's office says LaMar is not a person of interest in his daughter's disappearance.

Sierra is 5-feet-2 with a thin build, dark hair and an olive complexion, and was last seen carrying a black-and-pink, Juicy brand purse.

Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or an anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431, or text (408) 421-6760. People can also e-mail the sheriff's office at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Sierra LaMar's Purse, Clothing Found

Police will search area around LaMar's home after finding girl's purse with "neatly folded" clothing inside.

By Bob Redell and Lori Preuitt | Thursday, Mar 22, 2012 | Updated 2:12 PM PDT

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they found the purse and some clothing of missing Morgan Hill teenager Sierra LaMar.

The items were found Sunday at 1 p.m. near the intersection of Laguna and Santa Teresa in Morgan Hill. That is about two miles from the girl's home. They were off to the side of the road as if tossed from a vehicle. Her cell phone was found a day earlier, on Saturday, at the nearby intersection of Scheller and Santa Teresa. It was also off the roadway as if tossed.

Forensic tests and the family confirmed that these items belong to the 15-year-old girl who has not been seen since leaving for class at Sobrato High School early Friday morning.

Sierra lived in Fremont and attended Washington High School until this year when she and her mother moved to Morgan Hill. Students and teachers at both schools have helped in the search and have posted hundreds of missing person signs around the Bay Area.

Because of this new information, Santa Clara County investigators are back in Morgan Hill Thursday to perform new, more extensive search of the area. The search radius is three miles and includes 50 searchers plus search dogs.

The FBI has also been called in to assist in the investigation, but investigators would not say in what capacity. They did say that the FBI is not taking part in Thursday's new search.

Despite the discovery, the sheriff's office says it still isn't sure whether Sierra ran away on her own or was abducted. "There is no evidence of foul play," Sheriff's spokesman Jose Cardoza said.

Cardoza said a pair of pants, a shirt, a bra and a pair of underwear were neatly folded inside a Juicy brand purse. It was not clear if they were the clothes Sierra put on the morning she was last seen or if they were something she brought along with her. He said they contained no forensic evidence that pointed to a crime or a person of interest in the case. They said they did not release the information earlier because they were waiting on forensic evidence analysis.

Cardoza would not confirm reports that the purse or clothing had urine on it. "The specific details on the condition of the clothing - whether they were wet or had urine on them - we are holding that specific detail as confidential," Cardoza said.

Thursday's search is different from the searches that were held over the weekend in purpose. The weekend searches were focused on finding a missing or injured person. Now, the search team is looking for clues that might point to a crime. They will be looking for clothing, tire tracks, a weapon or blood evidence.

It was not clear if they were the clothes Sierra put on the morning she was last seen or if they were something she brought along with her.

Wouldn't her mother know if they are the clothes she left in? Or does this just mean that LE wasn't clear with reporters whether they were or not?

I thought the same thing! Also, if she had worn the clothes found in the pink bag, there would be dna and possible dirt or sweat on them. It's pretty easy to tell if a person has worn something already. MOO.

Sierra Lamar Breaking Update: Belongings Found, Texts Revealed

March 22, 2012 11:50 PM EDT

When 15-year-old Sierra Lamar vanished, she said goodbye to her mother and left to walk to her school bus stop. She was reportedly acting "fine" and seemed to be in an upbeat mood. She never made it on the bus that morning and her disappearance has gripped the nation in another high-profile missing persons case like that of Holly Bobo, Lauren Spierer, Hailey Dunn and other young women who have vanished without a trace.

There are new reports coming in and the latest updates involve new items found in the search for Sierra Lamar. Her purse and bag containing the clothing she was wearing the morning she vanished was discovered alongside the road a few miles from her home. Her clothing was neatly folded and stuffed in the bag containing her school books. This discovery hasn't given detectives any indication on whether or not she has been abducted or willingly ran away from home.

However, there is another bit of evidence in this missing persons case that is adding more curiosity to the mix. The 15-year-old teen had texted a friend the morning she vanished, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Detectives are not releasing the details of the text message, but say that the text doesn't reveal any signs that Sierra Lamar was in any danger. Could this text be an important piece of the puzzle in determining just what was going on in the girl's mind? Possible, and that might be why authorities aren't releasing the details.

This last text doesn't reveal much as far as the timeline goes in the teen's disappearance. She didn't leave her home until around 7:00 or 7:11 -- and the texts were reportedly sent while she was at home. Still, the details of the text could reveal something.

There are unconfirmed reports of urine being in the bag of the girl's belongings as if someone had either urinated into the bag or the clothes were soaked in it -- either or. Police are not confirming or denying these reports, so who knows.

What happened to this young girl? Did she run away from home or did something horrible happen to her and these items being found are clues of it?

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty FBI joins search for missing California girl Sierra LaMar

Post by Wrapitup Fri Mar 23, 2012 4:28 pm

Published March 23, 2012
| FoxNews.com

The FBI has joined the search for a missing California girl last seen leaving her home to walk to a school bus stop one week ago.

FBI agents could be seen Thursday night combing the neighborhood surrounding 15-year-old Sierra LaMar's home in Morgan Hill, Fox affiliate KTVU-TV reported.

LaMar was last seen leaving her home at around 7:15 a.m., one week ago. Police dogs searching for the girl lost her scent on the driveway of her home, authorities said.

The teenager usually walked from her home to a nearby bus stop, but a bus driver said he saw no sign of her, according to the station.

Police announced Thursday that the teen's bag was found on Sunday a couple of miles from her home. LaMar's pants and shirt were reportedly found neatly folded inside the Juicy brand bag, though it's not known whether those are the clothes she was last seen wearing.

LaMar's phone was recovered Saturday night about three-quarters of a mile from her home after police tracked its electronic ping. Sgt. Jose Cardozza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office said the last text LaMar sent out was shortly before 7 a.m. the day she disappeared and that it was not a distress text. He also said there was no forensic evidence on the phone.

There is currently no person of interest in the case, and police are still treating it as a missing person case.
Police said earlier this week that they were interviewing registered sex offenders in the area near where the teen was last seen.

Authorities are questioning the sex crimes offenders who live close to where she disappeared. There are 276 registered sex offenders in the area.

The girl's father, Steve LaMar, who lives some 40 miles away in Fremont, is a registered sex crimes offender but is not considered a suspect in the case, according to the station.

Family and friends say it is unlikely that LaMar ran away, and her cellphone charger was found in her bedroom.

Divers will continue to search for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar in the Ogier Pond and surrounding waters Friday. The pond is near Coyote Creek Golf Course.

The search will also continue within a three-mile radius from the LaMar's home.

Police are continuing to perform consent searches of neighbors' homes, all of whom have cooperated.

The FBI, assisting local authorities, set up a roadblock Friday morning on Dougherty Avenue near the intersection with Palm Avenue as part of their investigation into the disappearance of 15-year-old Sierra Lamar.

She was supposed to catch a school bus at that intersection last Friday but never made it.

Agents are stopping every driver and quizzing them about their recollection of the morning of March 16 when Sierra disappeared.

Police are asking if motorists saw anything unusual and if this is the route that motorist would normally take? The road block started around 7 a.m. No word if this has yielded any new clues or information.

Sierra's mother, Marlene LaMar, pleaded for help this morning, but she didn't seem to realize she referred to her daughter in the past tense.

"I'm hoping that you know, you think of her as your own child. You know, she's, she was such a lovable young lady," LaMar said.

Investigators have no evidence that something bad happened to Sierra LaMar -- no signs of foul play. There's also no indication that she ran away.

This morning, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office is setting up a roadblock in Morgan Hill near the location of where Sierra was supposed to catch her school bus, to ask drivers if they remember anything unusual about last Friday morning when she disappeared.

NBC Bay Area has learned new information about Sierra's personal belongings found in a field not far from her home.

One of those items is a San Jose Sharks shirt, very similar to what she was wearing last Friday morning in a photo she took on her home computer.

Marlene LaMar believes she had that shirt on when she left the house. On Sunday, searchers came across Sierra's pink Juicy purse near the intersection of Santa Teresa and Laguna. Folded within that bag were that shirt, pants and neatly folded undergarments.

Could she have anything to do w/her daughter missing? Could she have had some issue between the father and the daughter and did away w/her? I hope I am Wrong but something about her really bugs me.

Have they been poly'd????

Search for missing teen Sierra LaMar intensifies in California

By Mike Anderson, NBCBayArea.com

Dozens of law enforcement officials are combing an area of Morgan Hill, Calif., Saturday as the search for missing 15-year-old Sierra LaMar continues.

Santa County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza said with deputies from nearby counties called in to help, about 90 personnel and several search dogs were combing a 12-mile radius of the community.

The girl has been the subject of a major search over the last week, involving the FBI, helicopters, dogs, roadblocks and divers.

Cardoza said Saturday's search is the biggest mounted since Sierra was reported missing more than a week ago.

The day of LaMar's disappearance, her school's automated attendance system notified her mother, Marlene LaMar, that her daughter didn't show up for classes.

The next day, searchers found her cell phone along the side of the road near Palm and Dougherty Avenue, near her home in unincorporated Morgan Hill.

"The cellphone was intact, it wasn't broken," Sgt. Jose Cardoza said. "There's no evidence to lead to a crime after that."

Then on the Sunday after LaMar's disappearance, searchers found her black and pink Juicy brand purse near the intersection of Laguna and Santa Teresa in Morgan Hill, about two miles from her home, Cardoza said.

Inside the purse was a pair of pants, a shirt, a bra and a pair of underwear. The clothing was neatly folded inside the purse.

Steve LaMar, the girl's father, is a registered sex offender. But the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office said he was not a suspect in her disappearence.
"I understand the stigma associated with this in my background, and I assure everyone it is not connected in any way to my daughter’s disappearance," he said. "I ask that you please not shift the focus away from the investigation and from finding Sierra."

Hundreds of people in the communities of Morgan Hill and Fremont gathered Friday night for a candlelight vigil for LaMar.

Since the weekend LaMar went missing, the search team has been looking for clues that might point to a crime. But investigators have found no signs of foul play and no indication she ran away.

Police conducted consent searches of neighbors' homes and a three-mile search radius was set up around LaMar's home, police said. Neighbors have been cooperative.

The FBI eventually joined local authorities in the search. A roadblock was set up on Dougherty Avenue near the intersection of Palm Avenue. Agents stopped every driver to ask questions about LaMar's disappearance.

"I'm hoping that you know, you think of her as your own child," Marlene LaMar said. "You know, she's, she was such a lovable young lady."

Anyone with information about Sierra or her whereabouts is asked to contact Santa Clara County Communications at (408) 299-2311. During business hours, tipsters can call sheriff's investigators at (408) 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 808-4431. Sierra Lamar Search Expands, But is a 12-Mile Radius Far Enough?

March 25, 2012 02:50 AM EDT

The search for missing teen Sierra Lamar has expanded to a 12-mile radius, which was combed this weekend by several volunteers, dogs, and investigative officials. The 15-year-old girl has now been missing for almost nine days, and there has been no word of her since she vanished. The only definitive evidence in the young lady's case is the discovery of her purse and a bag containing urine-stained clothing, which police say do not indicate whether or not she had run away or had been abducted.

While it's apparent that the 12-mile search radius hasn't produced any evidence yet, it's important that the search for Sierra Lamar continues. There is no telling where this young girl is, and with each day that passes, the odds of finding her alive are slimmer and slimmer.

However, is a 12-mile radius big enough after she's been missing for over a week? There's no telling what happened or who's responsible, and just like the brutal slaying of 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, there have been no suspects or persons of interest named. Have detectives taken a focus on any of the surrounding towns or outlying areas? Have they looked into whether or not the father has an alibi for that morning? Yes, he has asked that people not focus on the fact that he's a registered offender, but everyone involved should be looked at under a microscope until this young woman is brought home or justice is served for whatever may have happened to her.

Sierra LaMar search remains fruitless; investigators consider new strategies

Authorities searching for missing Morgan Hill girl, 15
For the scores of searchers trying to find a missing 15-year-old Morgan Hill girl, Sunday was a day to take stock and begin to think about the future focus of the search.
The day after more than 100 members of Bay Area search-and-rescue teams scoured a 12-mile radius area near her home but found no clues in the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, investigators on Sunday sifted through existing evidence and the many interviews done by detectives and patrol officers in recent days in preparation for deciding how to focus the search in future days.

"Today is kind of a catch-up day," said Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. In the coming days, he said investigators will be grappling with whether they should expand the search, narrow it or change its focus. "There are a lot of operations meetings today about what we are doing and what needs to be done."
Saturday was the largest search effort since the former Fremont resident went missing more than a week ago. The search has included possible "crime scene areas" along Highway 152 on the approaches to Pacheco Pass and Hecker Pass.

There was a flicker of excitement Sunday in Watsonville as Santa Cruz County deputies investigated a 911 call reporting that a teen who looked like Sierra was seen hitchhiking on Holohan Road, authorities said. The witness reported that the girl had backpacks with her near the intersection of East Lake Avenue when she got into a black truck,

sheriff's Lt. Bob Pursley said.
The black-clad teen got into a black "lifted" pickup with a work rack, driven by a white man in his 20s with shoulder-length blond hair, Pursley said. Deputies did not find the vehicle, which was last seen about 4 p.m. heading toward Airport Boulevard, Pursley said.

Sierra has been missing since the morning of March 16, when she left home to catch a school bus at Dougherty and Palm avenues, authorities said.

FBI agents have been assisting sheriff's deputies with the investigation the past few days, recanvassing the area and searching the home of Marlene LaMar, Sierra's mother, with her consent, according to the sheriff's office.

But investigators found nothing like the March 18 discovery of Sierra's Juicy-brand bag at Santa Teresa Boulevard and Laguna Avenue in Morgan Hill.

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty Sierra LaMar Search Moves to Waterways

Post by raine1953 Wed Mar 28, 2012 1:33 pm

The search for Sierra LaMar will include local waterways.

The Santa Clara County Sheriffs office says it will send dive teams to Uvas, Reservoir and Parkway Lake on Wednesday. Inestigators said they will only send a diver into the water if a trained dog that specializes in water borne detection gets a hit for possible human remains.

The dogs and their handlers will be on boats with divers at the ready.

Also Wednesday, the volunteer search effort enters its second day. Organizers at Burnett Elementary tell NBC Bay Area that they really need more people.

Tuesday's overwhelming turnout of 563 people dwindled to about 100 volunteers Wednesday. It appears many people are staying home because of the rain.

Elaine Petrakis said she came back for a second day of searching even with the rain. "Rain doesn't bother me. So I figure if I can help, I'd like to know that if it were my kid, there'd be people out in the rain looking for my kids too," Petrakis said.

The Klaaskids Foundation which is coordinating this search with guidance from the sheriffs office. Searchers covered a five mile radius yesterday and hope to hit the eight to ten mile mark today and 20 miles by Sunday.

Searchers have been pinpointing several items of note in the fields, but so far nothing of significances has been found.

Brad Dennis with the Klaaskids Foundation puts it this way, "Every single time searchers go out in the field, they're going to find something. It's kind of like a testimony to the U.S. We dump stuff everywhere. We find clothes, socks and shoes all over the place."

The sheriffs office announced yesterday that it thinks it is highly unlikely that Sierra Lamar ran away from home when she disappeared two Friday mornings ago.

Investigators think abduction is a more likely scenario.

Missing 15 Year Old Sierra Lamar ~ Her Cell Phone & A Bag With Her Clothes Found~ Suspect Antolin Garcia-Torres Arrested & Charged With Kidnapping & Murder~ Her Remains Have Not Been Found Empty Teen's disappearance frustrates, unites community

Post by raine1953 Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:44 pm

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (AP) — Like a lot of teenage girls, 15-year-old Sierra LaMar used her smartphone as her billboard, her diary and her mirror. She sent text messages, tweeted and composed self-portraits of a petite, dark-haired beauty who liked makeup, cheerleading and dishing about reality TV star Kim Kardashian.
That electronic window into her world now sits in a San Jose crime lab undergoing forensic tests.
Sheriff's deputies found the device March 17, the day after Sierra's mother reported her missing. It was in a field near where she normally caught a school bus in Morgan Hill, a semi-rural community of 40,240 on the fringes of Silicon Valley surrounded by mountains, orchards and reservoirs.
On the day she disappeared, Sierra, a sophomore, never made it to the bus or her high school.
After initially allowing for the possibility that Sierra ran away from the home she shared with her mother and her mother's boyfriend, the 40 detectives assigned to the case are saying they now believe it is highly unlikely that she vanished voluntarily.
Their conclusion was based on Sierra not having a history as a runaway or any unusually negative family problems. Interviews with friends and a search of her computer also yielded no information indicating she fled.
For her family and many of the 583 volunteers who turned out to search for her, Sierra's abandoned phone wiped away thoughts that she ran away.
"A teenage girl without her phone? No way," said Gwen Dorcich, a mother of two teenagers who showed up at a vacant elementary school that was transformed into the search command center to sign up as a volunteer. "If she was planning to run away, she was going to tell friends that."
So far, however, the investigation has provided more questions than clues.
The day after deputies located her Samsung Galaxy smartphone, they came across Sierra's handbag a few blocks away. Several items of her clothing — a San Jose Sharks T-shirt, pants and undergarments — were folded neatly inside.
Tracking dogs lost her scent at the end of the driveway of her home on a cul-de-sac, leading investigators to hypothesize she never got much further.
"This seems like a very remote location, and it seems like anybody who would have been there had to have a reason to be there," said Marc Klaas, whose 12-year-old daughter Polly was kidnapped from her Northern California home in 1993 and murdered.
"Therefore, my immediate thought was: Whatever happened to Sierra, assuming she did not run away, happened on this block," he said.
A missing children's foundation he founded in his daughter's memory is organizing searches in the city, about 25 miles south of San Jose. Of the 46 similar searches the KlaasKids Foundation for Children organized last year, 37 resulted in either a victim being found alive or their remains located, he said.
The law enforcement response has included searching the homes of neighbors, contacting registered sex offenders, interviewing friends and relatives, and stopping drivers who travel the road where Sierra picked up the bus and where her phone and purse were found to ask if they saw anything unusual.
On Tuesday, a sheriff's team boarded a boat with a cadaver dog to search the shores of Calero Lake, a reservoir and teen hangout, while volunteers walked the surrounding brush-covered slopes in a line formation.
A weekend search by the sheriff's department and the FBI covered a 12-square-mile radius from Sierra's home. It included canyons and hillsides off major highways that could provide a place to dump something in a hurry, Sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.
People have called in tips about seeing a girl matching Sierra's description, he said, but none had panned out.
"We do not know what she was wearing when she left the house, we don't know when she left the house because no one saw her do it, and we have not had any new credible leads or tips or evidence since discovering the bag of clothes," Cardoza said. "There has been ... so many unknowns."
Sierra's mother, Marlene LaMar, told investigators she last saw her daughter when she left for work about 6 a.m. on March 16.
Just before 6:30 a.m., when Sierra ordinarily got ready for school, the teenager tweeted. A friend received a routine text message from her about 40 minutes later, the time she usually left home to catch the bus, authorities said.
But investigators have not found anything to signal where to look now.
The MacBook she got for her birthday has not provided any hints about where she might be. The night before she disappeared, she tweeted that she planned to write a school essay about teen depression and suicide. That same week, she tweeted: "suiiiiicide im tooo aliiiiive kill ya sellf."
Sierra and her mother have been living in Morgan Hill since October. Tonya Miller, a family friend, said Sierra appeared to have adjusted to the move, briefly joining a private cheerleading club and befriending the daughter of her mother's boyfriend.
The sheriff's department said neither Marlene LaMar nor her boyfriend is considered a suspect.
Authorities also absolved Sierra's father, Steve LaMar, a registered sex offender convicted in 2009 of one count of lewd or lascivious conduct with a child under 14. The victim was not Sierra or her older sister. Police say he is cooperating in the investigation and is not a suspect.
"I'm not going to hide it. It is very important they interview me, I get cleared and cooperate with everything," LaMar said.
The night before Sierra went missing, she asked her father to make an appointment to get her hair highlighted. He said he texted her the next day to say he had, but never got a reply.
When investigators reported finding the phone, Steve LaMar said, "That was pretty disturbing because we know that she is 15 years old and she loved that phone and was always on it. We would get mad at her for being on it at dinner."
Among the hundreds of volunteers Tuesday were several who endured the same ordeal as Sierra's family.
One was retired San Jose Police Officer Pat Boyd. His 28-year-old daughter, Cristie Wilson, disappeared from a Sacramento-area casino in 2005. A man who gambled at the casino that night has been convicted in her murder, but her body never was found.
On Tuesday, Boyd stood in the command center, explaining to volunteers returning from a fruitless search that their effort was still valuable not just to investigators trying to narrow the territory they have to cover but also Sierra's parents, who have only question marks.
"Do I hope and pray she is just a misguided teenager and ran away? Yes, that is my number one hope," he said. "Number two is that somebody did abduct her and is keeping her alive somewhere. And the last is that at least the family gets closure by finding out who did it and where she is."

I wonder if this poor girl was abducted and trafficked.
Did anyone see Dr Phil today, the second guest? That girl was just going to the grocery store and ended up trafficked. It's truly terrifying.

Missed Dr. Phil. I think many of the girls that are missing have been trafficked out. Sad to say, but when a young girl all the sudden goes "poof" and LE & the FBI have done extensive searches, and as time passes..what other explanation can there be?

I am NOT talking about Ayla or the Lunsford or Shockley. Those are babies. But, Holly Bobo comes to mind as does Hailey. And, there are so many more!
