Out of character for Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux to disappear, sister says

The sister of a missing Fort Bragg soldier said it was out of character for the woman to fail to show up for duty, while police say she may be in danger.
Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, was last seen early Saturday leaving a popular bar in Fayetteville.
"Kelli is a good soldier," her sister, Olivia Cox, told WRAL-TV. "Kelli is not a soldier who would go AWOL."
Fort Bragg officials reported Bordeaux missing on Monday, according to a press release from the Fayetteville Police Department.
Authorities said she disappeared after leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar at around 1:20 a.m. Saturday and "may be in danger."
"During the early course of the investigation, there was some information that detectives received that leads us to believe she may be in danger," Fayetteville police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts told the station.
Family members reportedly traveled from Florida on Tuesday to assist in the search for Bordeaux, who joined the military in April 2011 and arrived at Fort Bragg last November.
Cox declined to comment on whether Bordeaux was with her husband, Mike, at the time of her disappearance, according to WRAL. He was "holding up the best he can," Cox told the station.
Bordeaux, who has blond hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5 feet tall, weighing about 99 pounds.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).

Police question sex offender in search for missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux

North Carolina police are questioning a registered sex offender in their search for a missing Fort Bragg soldier last seen leaving a local bar.
Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, disappeared early Saturday after leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville.
On Wednesday, authorities interviewed 25-year-old Nicholas Holbert, a registered sex offender who works at the bar and who said he drove Bordeaux home the night she disappeared.
"Mr. Holbert is one of the last persons that had contact with Mrs. Bordeaux," Fayetteville police chief Chief Tom Bergamine told reporters. "Anybody that last saw her on the early morning of Saturday is someone we want to talk to."
Holbert has reportedly denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, telling WTVD-TV that he dropped Bordeaux off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request.
"As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said stop right here," Holbert told the station. “So I stopped and she said, ‘I’ll walk home.’ I said, ‘Are you sure?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ I said I figured she didn’t want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn’t want to be seen together."
Holbert, who was convicted in 2003 of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child, told the station he was being unfairly targeted because of his criminal record.
A police spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com Thursday that Holbert has not been named a "person of interest" in the case.
"This is still a missing person investigation and we are interviewing people who saw Kelli last," Fayetteville police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said.
Fort Bragg officials reported Bordeaux missing on Monday. Authorities said she was last seen leaving the bar at around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators searched a wooded area surrounding the bar as well as a pond about 8 miles away on Wednesday. They were also collecting surveillance video from businesses near the bar.
MacRoberts said that it is "way out of character" for the woman to go missing.
"She's not the type of person to go AWOL," he told FoxNews.com. "When someone disappears like this, it's usually not a good sign."
MacRoberts said Bordeaux's cellphone last "pinged" off a tower near the bar.
The woman's sister, Olivia Cox, told WRAL-TV that Bordeaux's civilian husband, Mike, was "holding up the best he can."
The station reported that Mike Bordeaux was out of town on the night his wife disappeared and was cooperating with the investigation.
Authorities have "no reason to doubt anything he's telling us at this time," Bergamine told the station.
Family members traveled from Florida on Tuesday to assist in the search for Bordeaux, who joined the military in April 2011 and arrived at Fort Bragg last November.
Bordeaux, who has blond hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 102 pounds.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).

Normal Sex offender who last saw missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux arrested on unrelated charge

Post by raine1953 on Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:26 pm

The registered sex offender who drove missing Fort Bragg soldier Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux home the night she disappeared was arrested Friday on an unrelated charge.
Nicholas Holbert, 25, who has been questioned twice in Bordeaux's disappearance, was taken into police custody for failing to register as a sex offender at his new address in Cumberland County, N.C., according to WRAL-TV.
The station also reported that the owner of the Froggy Bottoms bar -- where Bordeaux was last seen -- was arrested Monday on outstanding warrants unrelated to the soldier's disappearance.
Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, disappeared April 14 after leaving the bar in Fayetteville at around 1:20 a.m. Fort Bragg officials reported her missing two days later after she failed to report to duty.
Investigators have since searched a wooded area surrounding the bar as well as a pond about 8 miles away for any clues. They were also collecting surveillance video last week from businesses near the bar.
Holbert, who has not been named a person of interest in the case, admitted to driving Bordeaux home the night she was last seen. He has reportedly denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, telling WTVD-TV that he dropped Bordeaux off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request.
On Monday, police also arrested 49-year-old Steven Cantrell, the owner of the Froggy Bottoms bar, for failing to appear in a Cumberland County courtroom on a driving while impaired charge in 2001.
FBI agents also had warrants for Cantrell's arrest in Boston for failing to pay $400,000 in child support payments to three different women, sheriff's officials told WRAL.

Normal Kelli Bordeaux Update: Owner of bar where missing soldier was last seen arrested

Post by raine1953 on Tue Apr 24, 2012 11:51 pm

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Steven Cantrell, the owner of Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville where missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux was last seen, was arrested Monday on unrelated charges.

Pictures: Missing N.C. soldier

CBS affiliate WRAL reports that according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Cantrell, 49, was arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on a driving while impaired charge in 2001.

FBI agents also had warrants for Cantrell's arrest in Boston for failing to pay $400,000 in child support payments to three different women, sheriff's officials said.

Authorities said Cantrell paid a $500 bond for the charges Monday and was being held on a detainer out of Boston.

His bar, Froggy Bottoms, is the last place Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux was seen on April 14. Fort Bragg officials reported her missing to police two days after she failed to report for duty.

Fayetteville police have questioned those who may have seen her at Froggy Bottoms bar while her family has made several pleas for information.

A man who told police he had given Bordeaux a ride home from the bar was arrested Friday on a charge that he failed to provide his new address to authorities because he is a registered sex offender.

Police haven't said whether that man, Nicholas Holbert, is a person of interest in her disappearance.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials say they are treating Bordeaux's disappearance as an active missing person's case, but added that they have "grave concerns" about her well-being.

Bordeaux is assigned as a health service specialist with the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade. She has blond hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5-foot-1, weighing 102 pounds.

Maybe I'm a prude, but why was she out at a bar that late while her husband was out of town? I'm really not blaming the victim, just trying to understand. It is hard to tell from just hearing his voice, but he really didn't sound that upset to me. I read that they were separated, and then I read that they weren't, so I don't know what was going on with them.

The hubby sounds awfully suspicious to me...Claiming that they were not having marital problems and were not separated, even though she had told all her friends and family that they were. She was even seeing an old boyfriend, which probably didn't make Mikey too happy...And the fact that he said he received a dropped call from her phone and didn't report it until the next day, knowing that she had been reported missing!!?? Wonder what the content was of their last call that day of the night that she disappeared? The call was at 3:00 p.m. I think that it is very possible that he drove up that afternoon and evening and was waiting for her when she got home from the bar...Could be wrong, but it is very suspicious to me....

The area right outside of Ft Bragg is really bad, looks like a town that is slowly dying, the hotel was even a bad experience. I heard there is alot of crime in the area also. I was pretty surprised what a crap area it was, even right outside the base entrance.

Family, friends pay tribute to missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux

ST. CLOUD — About 100 people stood on the beach at St. Cloud's Lakefront Park as the sun set Friday, held white and yellow tapers and shared stories about missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux.

"Kelli is a sweet, sweet girl," said Tamra Collins, Bordeaux's longtime friend. "She would do about anything for her family and friends."

Several people held signs bearing photos of Bordeaux, of St. Cloud, in and out of uniform and a number to call with tips about her whereabouts (1-910-483-8477).

"Bring Kelli home," read one sign that had a heart next to Bordeaux's name.

Bordeaux's brother. Matt Henson, 29, said her family is trying to remain optimistic.

"Until there's evidence to the contrary, I'm going to believe she's still alive," said Henson, who lives in St. Cloud.

Staff Sgt. Katherine Smith, who recruited Bordeaux to the Army, said Bordeaux — a certified emergency medical technician — loved her work at a base military hospital in North Carolina.

She wanted to help people," Smith said. "She wanted to serve her country."

Bordeaux, 23, went missing April 14 from a Fayetteville, N.C., bar just a few miles from Fort Bragg, where she was stationed as a combat medic. She was last seen leaving with convicted sex offender Nicholas Holbert, who told police he drove her home and returned to the Froggy Bottoms bar.

She hasn't been seen since. No one has been charged in her disappearance.

While friends and family gathered at Lakefront Park, those in Fayetteville planned to hold a similar vigil.

Investigators have searched woods in northern Fayetteville and around the location of the bar but police said nothing substantial was found.

Holbert, 25, was arrested for failing to register his address April 20 and remains in custody.

Kelli Bordeaux: Missing Soldier's Husband Thanks Community at 'Vigil of Hope'

The husband of missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux thanked the community at a "vigil of hope" held Friday night near the bar where the 23-year-old was last seen.

"I appreciate everything everyone is trying to do to find her," Mike Bordeaux told ABC News affiliate WTVD. "I just want her home and I want her safe. That's all I want."

The missing soldier, who is from St. Cloud, Fla., has been married to her husband, Mike Bordeaux, who is a civilian, for nearly two years.

He was in Florida at the time of his wife's disappearance visiting his father, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Pfc. Bordeaux, who is a combat medic stationed at Fort Bragg was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville around 1:20 a.m. on April 14

Nicholas Holbert, a 25-year-old bar hand who is a registered sex offender, was questioned by police but is not a person of interest.

Holbert said he gave Bordeaux a ride home from the bar, but denied having anything to do with her disappearance and said he dropped her off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request.

"As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said, 'Stop right here,'" Holbert said. "So I stopped and she said, 'I'll walk home.' I said, 'Are you sure?' She said, 'Yeah.' I said I figured she didn't want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn't want to be seen together," he told WTVD.

Authorities and dozens of volunteers have searched the area near the bar, including a pond, however no new leads were discovered.

Detectives issued a public plea for anyone who was at the bar that night to call a hotline that was set up to collect leads.

Bordeaux joined the military in April 2011, according to a Fort Bragg spokesperson.

She was assigned to the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade, as a health service specialist. She joined the unit last November.

Bordeaux is 5-foot-1 and weighs 102 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink tube top with spaghetti straps and black shorts. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fayetteville Police.

Fayetteville detectives working Kelli Bordeaux case travel to Florida

By Nancy McCleary
Staff writer

Fayetteville homicide detectives spent much of last week in St. Cloud, Fla., following up leads in their search for missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux.

"It was productive from an investigative standpoint," Sgt. James Phillips said this morning of the trip.

He said investigators spoke with several people Bordeaux's hometown, but declined to share other details.

"It was productive from an investigative standpoint," Phillips said.

Bordeaux, 23, was last seen April 14 when she left Froggy Bottoms bar on Ramsey Street at the Interstate 295 interchange.

Police have said Bordeaux left the bar about 1:20 a.m. and was driven to her apartment about a half-mile away by Nicholas Holbert, a homeless registered sex offender who did odd jobs around the business.

Holbert, 25, has not been charged with any crime in Bordeaux's disappearance.

Phillips said today that investigators have not found Bordeaux's cell phone.

The phone did ping off a cell tower behind the Health Pavilion North building off Andrew Road, police said.

That was the report of activity from the phone, police said.

There have been several searches of the heavily wooded areas in and around Froggy Bottoms, Ramsey Street and I-295, but no sign of Bordeaux has been found, authorities said.

Bordeaux, who was reported missing by a co-worker, is a specialist with the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade.

Soldier's disappearance causing anguish for family

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --
Two times in the past week: a woman's body has been found in Fayetteville.

And both times: it left anxious searchers without an answer about what happened to Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux, who's been missing since April 14th.

Bordeaux's husband Mike says it's been an emotional time. He plans to be out searching with other volunteers for his wife next Saturday morning. Tina Turner, the leader of a group of volunteers, says next weekend they plan to focus on the Dobbins Homes Road area.

She says the volunteers are emotional and drained, but not giving up.

"I need my daughter back now," Johnna Henson pleads on Facebook. "I don't know how much more of this not knowing I can take."

On Saturday, more than two dozen volunteers searched 7 hours for her daughter, in dense brush near the town of Linden in Cumberland county.

The Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville was the last place Bordeaux was seen. That was six weeks ago.

The most recent search for the Ft. Bragg combat medic focused on an area around the Ivy Lane trailer park.

On Sunday, a body was discovered in the Cape Fear River, leaving people wondering if it was her.

"They said they thought it was Kelli, and then when we got down here they said it was somebody who's been missing for like a week, I guess the description didn't match up," said Christy Key, who came to the river to find out what was going on.

Many searchers say they knew quickly that the body was not Bordeaux. Police tell us it'll be Tuesday before they can make an identification.

And last Wednesday, brought another frightening discovery. A man walking through the woods off Gregory Street in Fayetteville found another woman's body.

Those remains turned out to be 26 year old Denika Jones, who disappeared on May 15th.

Jones' family is now coping with heartbreak, while the anguish continues for Bordeaux's.

As Kelli's mother writes, " It's making me crazy not knowing where she could be. I love and miss her so much it hurts."

There was confusion Sunday, after the discovery of the other woman's body in the Tar River.

Some people began posting "Rest in peace Kelli" on the Facebook page dedicated to finding her. Now the organizers ask that no one post updates until they've been verified by police or Kelli's family.

Volunteers launch new search for Fort Bragg soldier missing 2 months

Volunteers are meeting Saturday to mount a new search for a Fort Bragg soldier missing for two months.
Pfc. Kelli Marie Bordeaux was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms, a North Carolina bar, in the early morning hours on April 14.
Police believe Bordeaux, 23, left with a registered sex offender, Nicholas Holbert, who had reportedly been living in a lean-to behind the bar, WRAL-TV reports.
Holbert has told police that he dropped her off at the apartment she shared with her husband, who was away visiting family at the time. Holbert claims he had nothing to do with the woman's disappearance and says he is being unfairly targeted because of his criminal past.
He is convicted of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old.
The 25-year-old was arrested following Bordeaux's disappearance for failing to register as a sex offender at his new address.
"One little thing could lead us, if we could just find one little thing," Tim Kassner, a volunteer told WRAL-TV.
Investigators have not named any suspects in the case.
Froggy Bottoms closed after the owner was arrested on warrants unrelated to the case, WRAL-TV reports.
Volunteers have met regularly to search various areas near her home and the bar. Police have set up a special hotline for tips, and an $8,000 reward is being offered.
Mike Bordeaux says he's grateful for the community's effort to find his wife. He says there were no problems in the marriage, and the couple had never visited the bar. This contradicts other reports that she had told friends and family that they were separated and had even started seeing an old boyfriend again. Why would he lie?
Bordeaux is described as 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 102 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Volunteers have met regularly - sometimes several times a week - to scour swamps, woods and thick brush for any clues about the 23-year-old who vanished after a night out at a Ramsey Street bar.

Last Saturday, Warwick was among 30 people who lined up in ragged rows to search overgrown meadows off Callie Road. It was far fewer than the hundreds who turned out in the first weeks after Bordeaux went missing, but it was a dedicated group.

Callie Road is a bumpy gravel track near Interstate 295, about three miles from the Froggy Bottoms tavern where Bordeaux spent the evening of April 13.

Some searchers on horseback hunted along several miles of dirt roads. Others pressed through thick, thorny weeds and poked at the heavy underbrush. They didn't let the bugs, spiders and ticks faze them or the risk of encountering a venomous snake.

Warwick, a 22-year-old fast-food worker, carried a machete for slashing down weeds and scaring off dangerous wildlife.

The searchers hoped to find Bordeaux's cellphone or the pink top she wore the last night she was seen. They dreaded finding a soft patch of earth with fresh vegetation, not sure if it would prove to be her grave.

While some joined the search for the first time, others have hunted for Bordeaux repeatedly.

"All these soldiers have given their lives, basically, to help protect us. And I was thinking, 'Why not do something for a soldier?' " said Warwick, whose arms were lined with scratches from previous searches through heavy underbrush.

Saturday's searchers included several soldiers from Fort Bragg, among them Spc. Donna Heiberger and Pfc. Tyara Wallace. It was their first time out.

They don't know Bordeaux, Heiberger said, but her disappearance remains on their minds and in the thoughts of others at Fort Bragg.

A commander mentioned the volunteer search during a safety briefing before the weekend, Heiberger said.

"If it were me, I would want somebody to continue to keep looking for me, and it's a fellow solider, you shouldn't leave them. Shouldn't give up," she said.

Even in the safety of the U.S., far from battlefields and foreign cities, soldiers are advised to avoid going out alone, Heiberger said. They have "battle buddies" to back each other up, she said.

Bordeaux's husband was out of town the Friday night she went to Froggy Bottoms, police have said. She was reported missing the following Monday when she didn't show up for work at Fort Bragg.

Police say Bordeaux left the bar with a man sometime after midnight. The man is a convicted sex offender who lived in a makeshift shelter nearby. He told investigators he drove Bordeaux to her apartment complex about a half-mile away and dropped her off.

That man is in jail under $110,000 bail because he had not given the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office his current address, which is required of sex offenders. Now 25, the man was convicted of assaulting a 5-year-old when he was 16.

Fayetteville police continue to investigate Bordeaux's disappearance, said spokesman Gavin MacRoberts.

"We're trying to determine what happened to Kelli and take it from there," MacRoberts said.

Although homicide detectives are handling the investigation, he said, the case is still considered that of a missing person.

"Until her body is found or her whereabouts are determined, we don't have a homicide," MacRoberts said. I call bs on this line of thinking! A convicted sex offender allegedly "dropped her off", he has assaulted a child and he's in jail for failing to register as a sex offender. GMAB!!!

The volunteer searchers have helped scour vast territory that the Police Department doesn't have the manpower to cover, he said.

Police saw a similar outpouring of support when 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was reported missing in November 2009, MacRoberts said. Law enforcement officers found her body in Harnett County woods not long after her murder.

Saturday's search for Bordeaux uncovered deer bones, a shotgun shell, a bloody bit of gauze, broken car parts and many beer cans in the ditches along Callie Road. None is thought to be connected to Bordeaux's disappearance.

The searchers last week found a cellphone that looked like Bordeaux's but wasn't and a realistic replica of a handgun, said search organizer Tina Turner. Police collected the finds, but Turner doesn't think they're related to the Bordeaux case, either.

MacRoberts said the volunteers previously found a purse that had been stolen in a car break-in. Police returned it to the owner.

He says there were no problems in the marriage, and the couple had never visited the bar.
This contradicts other reports that she had told friends and family that they were separated and had even started seeing an old boyfriend again. Why would he lie?
Wishful thinking??

Steven Cantrell, the owner of Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville where missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux was last seen, was arrested Monday on unrelated charges.FBI agents also had warrants for Cantrell's arrest in Boston for failing to pay $400,000 in child support payments to three different women, sheriff's officials said.

Judge rejects deal that would have freed $480G deadbeat dad

Brockton District Court Judge Paul C. Dawley, left, rejected in court today a plea deal that would have allowed Stephen Wayne Cantrell, right, to get out of jail for paying $10,000 on a nearly half-million dollar child support debt.

Stephen Wayne Cantrell, the accused deadbeat dad who owes almost a half-million dollars in child support, is headed to trial after all.

In an unusual move, Brockton District Court Judge Paul C. Dawley refused to accept a state-approved plea deal that would have allowed Cantrell, 49, to get out of jail after paying just $10,000 on his debt.

Dawley said he would not approve any plea deal that would involve Cantrell spending less than two and a half years behind bars, unless he pays his two former wives $50,000, at which time the judge would reduce the time of incarceration to a year.

“I respect the position that each of you have to further your respective interests but I’ve got to look at a larger picture here and look at all of the facts and the impact of this crime, not only on the victims but on the community at large,” Dawley told the Plymouth district attorney’s office and the defendant. “For that reason, as I indicated earlier, I would impose a 2 1/2 year house of correction commitment upon his plea. If he were to produce a certified check in the amount of $50,000, as I indicated the last time, I would impose a 2 1/2 year sentence with one year of that to be served, the balance of that to be suspended and five years of probation. Nothing I heard today will change my view, so at this point, I would decline to accept the agreed upon disposition and we can agree to proceed to trial.”

Cantrell’s two former wives said they were delighted with the judge’s ruling, and said they are looking forward to a trial.

“I do not go along with the recommendation of the district attorney,” said Cindy Cassidy, the first ex-Mrs. Cantrell, told Dawley. “He left us and didn’t worry if our sons had food on the table or clothes on their back.”

After Cantrell’s lawyer Steven Goldwyn told Dawley that his client “has no money,” Cassidy asked Dawley to demand a more aggressive probe of Cantrell’s assets.

“I have reason to believe he owns two bars in North Carolina,” she said.

As the Herald reported today, Cantrell, who has three sons, is one of the top deadbeat dads in the Bay State. He owes more than $481,000, according to the Department of Revenue.

His trial is now scheduled for Sept. 18.

Normal Remains discovered at Fort Bragg could be 23-year-old soldier missing since April

Post by raine1953 on Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:49 am

Police have found remains at Fort Bragg and are now investigating if they could belong to the 23-year-old, Private First Class Kelli Bordeaux, who went missing in April.
The remains were discovered at the Eastern Training Area on the U.S. Army base in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Tuesday night but police will not specify if they are animal or human remains.
Searchers began combing the area when they received a tip about a possible body in the area. The remains are currently under review at a forensic laboratory for identification.

The combat medic was last seen on April 14, leaving a bar in Fayetteville, called Froggy Bottoms, early in the morning.
She was reported missing on April 16 by officials at Fort Bragg, after not showing up for duty.
Her husband, Mike, was visiting family in Florida at the time of his wife's disappearance.

She was assigned to the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade, as a health service specialist.
A native of St. Cloud, Florida she joined the military in April 2011.

Since her disappearance her family has held on to hope that they will find her but there have been no charges and few clues in the case.
Her family is still holding on for hope and in July hosted a charity event to pray for the search and raise awareness of her disappearance.
'I know it's scary to do the right thing, especially if you know a hard truth, but you can't imagine how difficult it is for my family,' Bordeaux's older sister, Olivia Cox, told FOX News, pleading with the public for help.
'Her birthday is a month away and she's not here. She's not going to be here for Thanksgiving.'

Police had executed a search of a pond several miles from the bar using dive teams, shortly after she was reported missing in April.
Her phone's last location was pinged along the Ramsey Street and 295 Interstate, near the bar.
In April, Fayetteville Police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts told ABC News: 'There is some information we've gathered that makes us concerned for her safety.'

Mr MacRoberts declined to disclose further details, citing an ongoing investigation.
'I'm grieving too,' Holbert told ABC, 'because she seemed like a really nice and cool person and I hate that she's missing. I hope that she's found for their sake so they can get closure.'
Police are questioning the woman's friends and relatives as well.
According to her Facebook page, Mrs Bordeaux married her husband Mike Bordeaux in 2010.
Mrs Bordeaux's older sister, Olivia Cox, told the network it was unlike her sister to disappear without notice.
'Kelli is a good soldier. Kelli is not a soldier who would go AWOL,' she said.
Mrs Bordeaux, who is 5ft tall and weighs 99lbs, has blonde hair and brown eyes.
She was last seen wearing a pink halter top and black shorts at about 1:20am on Saturday, police say.
Detectives are asking that anyone with information contact Fayetteville Police at (910) 433-1856 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).

Normal Kelli Bordeaux update: Remains not missing soldier

Post by raine1953 on Sat Nov 24, 2012 3:38 pm

Earlier it was believed that the remains of Kelli Bordeaux were possibly found, as was written in this Gather News article. However, it's been released in just a matter of hours that the remains are not only a negative match to the missing army medic, but they are not even human. While the loved ones of the missing woman can breathe a collective sigh of relief for that, there is still the fact that remains; She is still missing.

The remains were identified as being non-human, but that is all that has been released to the media. I guess at this point it truly doesn't matter what they are, as all that matters is there is still a woman missing around the Fort Bragg area. Kelli Bordeaux was last seen in April when she left Froggy Bottoms bar with registered sex offender Nicholas Holbert. Holbert has since been jailed on unrelated charges, but it should be noted that he was questioned at least twice regarding Kelli's disappearance before he was arrested.

Today is Thanksgiving and the loved ones of this missing woman need to be kept in your thoughts. Kelli is among the several thousand men, women and children who are missing in the United States on this holiday and all their loved ones want is closure, or their loved ones to return. This will undoubtedly be a tough holiday for this missing woman's family.

Normal Remembering Kelli Bordeaux: Will She Ever Be Found?

Post by raine1953 on Thu Apr 18, 2013 1:57 am

It's been a year and Kelli Bordeaux remains missing with as many unanswered questions as there were in the beginning. Among heartbreaking reports that there are no investigative updates, it's being shared that the military is offering a reward in the amount of $25,000 for information leading to closure in this case -- which means finding out what happened to Kelli.
That's not the only update in the case. The FayObserver reports that a remembrance ceremony will be held in honor of the missing woman -- but it will only be open to members of her family and unit: 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Bridgade. The event will be held on Friday at around 10:00 a.m.

What happened to Kelli Bordeaux?

Kelli vanished a year ago after a night of drinking at Froggy Bottoms bar. She was reportedly dropped off near her home by Nicholas Holbert -- a registered sex offender who had been living behind the bar. She had only met Holbert a week prior, so it's unknown as to what kind of relationship they had beyond a friendly acquaintanceship. He's been jailed since the early days of the case, on unrelated charges, and denies any involvement in her case.

Normal Fort Bragg to hold remembrance ceremony for missing soldier

Post by raine1953 on Thu Apr 18, 2013 1:59 am

It has been a year since Spc. Kelli Bordeaux went missing from Fort Bragg, N.C. She was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms in Fayetteville with a registered sex offender.
The 601st Area Support Medical Company will hold a remembrance ceremony for members of Bordeaux’s unit and family April 19 at Pope Field on post.
“We’re doing this for members of the battalion to bring hope to the soldiers and to make it known that Spc. Kelli Marie Bordeaux lives in our hearts,” 1st Lt. Annie Davis, of the 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, said. “I am Bordeaux’s platoon leader so it’s important that we take time to remember her.”
The unit’s public affairs office announced the ceremony as public on Tuesday, but this morning told the Fayetteville Observer that the event would be closed.

Normal Army declares missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux dead

Post by raine1953 on Fri May 24, 2013 4:26 pm

Fort Bragg officials said Wednesday they have declared missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux deceased so her military benefits can be transferred to her family.

The change in status does not presume she is dead, according to a statement from the post. It was made based on a recommendation from a board convened to review her duty status, which was listed as missing on May 16, 2012.

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Channel 9 has learned the body of missing Osceola County soldier Kelli Bordeaux has been recovered and first-degree murder charges filed.

The 23-year-old disappeared two years ago from an Army base in Fayetteville, N.C.

Authorities arrested Nicholas Holbert in connection with Bordeaux's killing and charged him with first-degree murder.

Bordeaux grew up in St. Cloud and left to join the Army before being stationed at Fort Bragg.

Investigators said she left a bar with a man who offered her a ride home.

Holbert was later arrested for failing to register as a sex offender but had denied any involvement in Bordeaux's disappearance.

Investigators said a friend of Bordeaux received a text the night she disappeared saying she got home OK. The family is not convinced she's the one who actually sent it.

Normal Re: 05/14/14 ~ Body of missing St. Cloud soldier Kelli Bordeaux recovered; Murder charges filed against Nicholas Holbert.

Post by Wrapitup on Wed May 14, 2014 9:40 pm

Susan Jacobson, Orlando Sentinel
10:29 p.m. EDT, May 14, 2014

Two years of waiting came to a sad end Wednesday for the family of missing St. Cloud soldier Kelli Bordeaux.

The presumed remains of Bordeaux, who was 23 when she disappeared in April 2012, were found Wednesday morning in dense woods a few miles from a bar where she was last seen.

"We're glad that we're able to return Pfc. Bordeaux to her family, to her community," Fayetteville, N.C., police Chief Harold Medlock said at a news conference.

A sex offender, Nicholas Holbert, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping, police spokesman Lt. Todd Joyce said. Holbert was the last person seen with Bordeaux and was a "person of interest" from the start, police said.

Bordeaux's grandmother, while grieving over the news, said there was an element of relief from the uncertainty of the past two years.

"Oh, you don't know how I've been praying and praying to put some closure on it," Marian Henson said. "Such a wonderful girl she was."

Bordeaux vanished April 14, 2012, after a night at Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville. A St. Cloud High School graduate, she joined the military in April 2011 and was a medic stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

The private first class was reported missing April 16, 2012, when she didn't arrive at work at the military base.

Investigators say they think Bordeaux was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the woods along River Road in Cumberland County, Medlock said.

Holbert was with officers at the scene Wednesday.

"It was specific information from Holbert that took us to that location today," Medlock said.

Determined to generate leads, friends and family over the years have held a sunset vigil at St. Cloud's Lakefront Park and launched a "Find Kelli Bordeaux" Facebook page and a website that last month publicized a Fayetteville billboard seeking information on her disappearance.

Detectives talked to Holbert several times earlier in the investigation and were interviewing him again late Wednesday. He told a North Carolina TV station shortly after Bordeaux's disappearance that he gave her a ride home from Froggy Bottoms but dropped her off at the entrance to her neighborhood.

Holbert spent 175 days in prison in North Carolina in 2012 because he failed to notify authorities that he had changed his address as required of sex offenders. He lived in a tent behind Froggy Bottoms and was a customer, the owner said in 2012.

Holbert previously was imprisoned in North Carolina for child abuse and for taking indecent liberties with a child. He has been in and out of jail since Bordeaux disappeared.

It will take a medical examiner in Raleigh a few days to officially identify the remains, police said. The Army in May 2013 declared Bordeaux dead so her family could receive survivors' benefits. She was married.

Bordeaux was assigned to the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade. She was a certified emergency medical technician, friends said.

A $25,000 reward had been offered for information on the case. It was unknown Wednesday whether anyone was eligible to collect.

Medlock said officers received "good assistance from a citizen."

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police say that after a two-year investigation, the remains of missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux have been found and a person has been charged.

Bordeaux's remains were located one mile north of Interstate 295 on River Road with the assistance of the suspect. Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed crime scene investigators removing evidence from a wooded area.

"We believe this is a very sad recovery in that we hoped that PFC. Bordeaux was alive and well, but we are also comforted in this community that we have taken an individual off the streets that created this terrible tragedy," said Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock. "A lot of folks across this city and across this county - in fact across the country - have been involved in the search."

Nicholas Holbert

Police identified their suspect as 27-year-old Nicholas Holbert - who has long been a person of interest in the case. In an exclusive interview with ABC11 in 2012 - just days after Bordeaux went missing - Holbert said he met Bordeaux at Fayetteville night spot Froggy Bottoms on April 14, 2012 and drove her home that night, he denied having anything to do with her disappearance.

The spot Holbert claimed he dropped off Bordeaux is about a quarter mile from her apartment on Water Trail Drive. He claimed he figured there might be someone at the apartment she didn't want him to see, so he left.

Normal Suspect in murder of Kelli Bordeaux could face death penalty

Post by Wrapitup on Fri May 16, 2014 4:17 pm

By Cristina Corbin Published May 15, 2014 FoxNews

The North Carolina sex offender suspected of murdering Army Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux appeared in court Thursday, as prosecutors considered seeking the death penalty a day after the discovery of remains believed to belong to the former army medic who disappeared more than two years ago.

Nicholas Holbert was held on $250,000 bond during his first appearance in court, where he faces first-degree kidnapping and first-degree murder.

"As the investigative file comes in we'll review the investigation to see if any factors exist and then we'll present that at a hearing later on in the process," Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West told the Fayetteville Observer. "Ultimately it will be a Superior Court judge's decision but we'll have to review that file to see what, if any, aggravating circumstances could possibly make it a capital murder case."

Earlier, detectives told FoxNews.com they "strongly suspect" a body found near a North Carolina highway Wednesday is that of Bordeaux. Evidence found at the scene led police to publicly acknowledge that they believe the remains belong to the 23-year-old woman, though the medical examiner in Raleigh must positively identify the body through dental records, said Lt. Todd Joyce of the Fayateville Police Department.

Joyce said a "citizen" notified authorities at approximately 11 a.m. Wednesday, leading police to scour the area and swiftly find the remains. Joyce declined to identify the caller or say whether the individual had any connection to Bordeaux or Holbert, the 27-year-old registered sex offender who was arrested Wednesday.

Bordeaux's mother, Johnna Henson of St. Cloud, Fla., told the Associated Press that it was Holbert who led police to her daughter's remains.

Holbert is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon in Cumberland County.

Bordeaux, originally from St. Cloud, Fla., was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville, N.C., around 1:20 a.m. on April 14, 2012. The woman's husband, a civilian, was visiting family in Florida at the time, and Bordeaux had spent the night singing karaoke and drinking with friends at the hangout.

Holbert, a "bar hand" at Froggy Bottoms, told police he drove Bordeaux home to her apartment complex less than a mile away. He denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, claiming Bordeaux asked to be dropped off at the entrance of her neighborhood. She was never seen or heard from again.

"Got home safely" was the last message sent from Bordeaux's cellphone on the night she disappeared, but authorities and the woman's family do not believe she sent it.

According to arrest records, Holbert got into a fight with Bordeaux outside the now-closed Froggy Bottoms bar. Arrest records say Holbert knocked Bordeaux unconscious, put her in a car and later killed her at a camp site behind the tavern. Hours later, according to police, he buried her body off River Road about a mile and a half north of Interstate 295.

Holbert, who was living in a tent behind the bar at the time, was arrested on unrelated charges shortly after Bordeaux's disappearance. He was taken into police custody in April 2012 for failing to register as a sex offender at his new address in Cumberland County, N.C.,

Holbert, who was convicted in 2003 at age 16 of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child, had told media outlets he was being unfairly targeted in the Bordeaux case because of his criminal record.

His wrists handcuffed behind him, Nicholas Holbert's somber stare flicked from the judge to the district attorney.

Holbert watched Thursday as District Court Judge David Hasty flipped through the warrants filed against him in the killing of Fort Bragg Spc. Kelli Bordeaux: first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

The 27-year-old's hair was the same short length he wore in interviews with the media two years ago, when he proclaimed his innocence in Bordeaux's death.

That changed Wednesday, when Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said Holbert helped investigators find a shallow grave off River Road. Bordeaux's remains were inside, police said.

Holbert, a registered sex offender, told investigators he killed Bordeaux at a lean-to shelter behind the now-closed Froggy Bottoms bar on Ramsey Street, according to arrest warrants.

He has been a "person of interest," the chief said, since Bordeaux, 23, vanished after leaving the bar with Holbert during the early morning hours of April 14, 2012.

After a moment Thursday, Hasty looked up from the file and gave a $250,000 bail on the kidnapping offense. No bail was given on the first-degree murder charge. OK..that makes sense now.

There were few in attendance at the arraignment, and no family members came on behalf of Holbert.

The death penalty is still on the table for Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West, who said he will review evidence in Bordeaux's death to see if charges against Holbert warrant capital punishment.
"As the investigative file comes in, we'll review the investigation to see if any factors exist, and then we'll present that at a hearing later on in the process," West said.

According to arrest records, Holbert got into a fight with Bordeaux outside Froggy Bottoms.

Arrest records said Holbert knocked Bordeaux unconscious, put her in a car and later killed her at a campsite behind the bar.

Hours later, warrants said, he buried Bordeaux in a shallow grave off River Road, about a mile and a half north of Interstate 295.

Holbert wore a deep-orange county jail jumpsuit and had slight stubble on his chin.

Asked if he understood the charges against him, he answered Hasty several times with, "Yes, sir."

The courtroom was silent as two gray-uniformed guards flanked Holbert.
He appeared somber as Hasty appointed him a public defender.
After the hearing, West said there was a sense of relief in the investigation.

West said prosecutors often asked Fayetteville police detectives about the Bordeaux case.

"We certainly wanted some closure to this investigation," West said. "We wanted to know who did this and to be able to arrest the person that did it. We've done that now."

Fayetteville police have released no information since the discovery was announced at a news conference Wednesday.

A representative from the state Medical Examiner's Office in Raleigh was scheduled to be at the scene to assist with the removal of the remains, said Lt. Todd Joyce, police spokesman.

Investigators, some wearing State Bureau of Investigation gear, arrived about 7:30 a.m.
Investigators followed a path through the dense woods that traveled about 300 yards away from River Road. The path continued, but police followed a secondary trail that cut north about another 50 yards.
It was where the brush was thickest.
The main path was about as a wide as a patrol car, with a creek that ran just south of it.
The side trail wound through briar patches and fallen pine trees. The green and brown foliage was dotted with black latex evidence gloves.
In the middle of a clearing bedded with pine needles, a shallow pit of slightly silver-colored dirt lay beside what appeared to be partially decayed plastic sheeting.

The makeshift grave was roughly 3 feet wide and 4 feet long, and no more than a foot deep.

David Marshburn, 38, a private investigator from Smithfield, said he was given information that led police to the soldier's remains.

Marshburn said he began working on the case on his own a few months after Bordeaux disappeared.

About five months ago, he started working with Dr. Maurice Godwin, a forensic consultant, and Al Mignacci of Raleigh.
The men have been active with a group led by Tina Turner that has searched for Bordeaux since she went missing.
Godwin and Marshburn worked together to interview Holbert after he was cleared in February from his probation period on a sex offense charge stemming from 2012, the men said.

Holbert denied, in the interview, that he had killed Bordeaux and said he did not know police still considered him a person of interest, Godwin and Marshburn said.
Marshburn said he found Holbert living on the 200 block of Stuart Avenue in Fayetteville, the address that was listed on the N.C. Sex Offender Registry.
No one was at the residence Thursday.

According to warrants, Holbert's mother lives in Spring Lake. A woman who answered the door there Thursday declined to comment.

"I dug into his past and found his likes and his dislikes, and approached him with an open-arms friendship," Marshburn said. "I gave him the opportunity to talk to me or turn away."

Marshburn said Holbert attended Pine Forest High School and was on the wrestling team.

Marshburn would not discuss specific conversations with Holbert or other aspects of the relationship and his and Godwin's investigation, saying he wanted to disclose that information to police detectives.

"It took seven or eight months from the time he got out of jail (in May 2013), about a month after that to now to be able to get him to open up," Marshburn said. "It was tough."
On Tuesday, Marshburn said, "he confided in me."

Marshburn and Holbert began searching, driving from Froggy Bottoms, out I-295, across the Cape Fear River and onto River Road.
"We had an area, but we didn't have an exact location," Marshburn said.
It was difficult, Marshburn said, for Holbert to recognize where he had left Bordeaux's body.
"You've got to imagine two years of vegetation growth," Marshburn said. "It would have been hard for anybody to remember exactly. It was like walking up to a wall of briars and walking through them."
But several hours later, they found the site.

Marshburn had an assistant, Marsha Ward, with him, he said, as well as his German shepherd, Kaz, a dog trained to sniff out bodies.
"If you can't get in there, more than likely they (cadaver dogs) don't want to, either," Marshburn said. "We had to clear paths."

Bordeaux was assigned to the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 44th Medical Brigade and served as a combat medic.

"There is no greater crime than the theft of a human life," said police Detective Jeff Locklear, who worked on the Bordeaux case. "Please pray for the families."

Hasty, the judge, was clear and to the point in telling Holbert that, if convicted of the Bordeaux murder, he could face a potential death sentence.

"I hope he gets a full sentence," said Turner, 54.
Although she stopped searching, Turner said she always believed the slain soldier would be found.
"We never gave up that she would be brought home," she said.
Turner said Kelli Bordeaux has been on her mind since she went missing 25 months ago.
"Not a day goes by we didn't think about Kelli," Turner tearfully said.

Normal Autopsy confirms body is Kelli Bordeaux.

Post by Wrapitup on Fri May 16, 2014 4:30 pm

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The state medical examiner on Friday confirmed that remains found earlier this week in Fayetteville are that of 23-year-old Kelli Bordeaux, a Fort Bragg soldier who was missing for more than two years.

Nicholas Michael Holbert, 27, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping in the death of Bordeaux. Her remains were discovered Wednesday morning in a heavily wooded area near Interstate 295.

Holbert was being held under a $250,000 bond on the kidnapping charge and without bond on the murder charge.

Arrest warrants obtained by The Fayetteville Observer say that Holbert and Bordeaux arrived together at the now-closed Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville on the night of April 13, 2012, and were there for several hours before getting into a fight in the parking lot.

The warrants continue to allege that Holbert hit Bordeaux, knocked her unconscious and then carried her in his car to where he lived behind the bar. There, he hit her several more times in the head until she died.

Glad they found her body. And glad that bar is closed.
Ladies, really, be smart and don't go out alone to a bar. Use common sense.

Agree, Hippy..unless it's a bar "where everyone knows your name".

I live in a small town and use to bartend in the local bar back in the late 90's.

Even Then, do NOT accept a ride home from someone you Don't know.

I am NOT blaming her - However, had she called a cab or gotten a ride home w/someone (preferably a female friend) she knows..she would be alive today.

Investigators remember the search for Kelli Bordeaux
By: Amanda Weber 05/19/2014 05:19 PM

FAYETTEVILLE -- It wasn't just local law enforcement on the search for missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux. A criminal physiologist and private investigator both spent close to two years looking for the young woman.

Nicholas Holbert, 27, who disposed of Bordeaux's body over two years ago led investigators to the site where she was buried last week.

"He had admitted to him what he had done with Kelli Bordeaux,” said Buddy Berube, private investigator.

Berube says his colleague David Marshburn, a private investigator, worked on the case from the beginning, when Bordeaux went missing in April of 2012. Last week, Holbert drove out to the location with Marshburn and confessed to killing Bordeaux.

"David said he confessed and when he had confessed he had told David he was relieved he had told someone,” said Berube.

Dr. Maurice Godwin, a criminal psychologist who has worked on the case from the beginning, says Holbert was always the key to this case. He says after several interviews with him, he felt Holbert may open up more to Marshburn.

"I think Nick was destitute, broke and had no place to go, and I really [think] that played a role and one of the biggest things. I think he had a big burden on his shoulders he wanted to get off. It just cost him his life probably,” said Dr. Maurice Godwin, criminal psychologist and forensic investigator.

Godwin says it was a relief last week to know after all of this time where Bordeaux was.

"I felt elated that she was found for the family, for everyone involved, but it's like running a marathon and hitting a brick wall, so what are we doing now, we are moving on to another case,” said Dr. Godwin.

Holbert is charged with first degree kidnapping and first degree murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.
