NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - A man, a 16-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were found dead Tuesday at a South Bay motel, where they died in an apparent murder-suicide carried out by the adult.

Officers conducting a welfare check at the request of a relative of the children discovered the deaths in the 1400 block of National City Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m., according to police.

Preliminary evidence suggested that the 39-year-old man shot the two minors before turning the gun on himself, Sgt. Julian Villagomez told a local news station. Their names were withheld pending family notification.

The boy and girl were believed to have been related to each other, but their relationship to the man was not immediately clear, the sergeant said.

Police were not looking for any suspects, Villagomez told the news station. The motive for the crime was unknown, according to the sergeant.

"At this point, we don't know what led up to the (shootings)," he said. "We don't know the history behind this."

A distraught woman who identified herself as the children's mother made an emergency call after knocking at the door of their rented room and getting no response, motel custodian Fernando Ayon told reporters.

"She mentioned something about the man (having) called her," Ayon told reporters. "And ... he was saying that he was going to commit suicide, or something like that. She was very concerned for the children."

No one at or near the motel reported hearing gunfire in the hours before the bodies were found, Villagomez said.

Father, children found dead at motel

FOX 5 San Diego Staff
5:44 p.m. PDT, June 26, 2012

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. -- Police were investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a man and his two children at a National City motel Tuesday.

Officers went to the Paradise Motel at 1470 National City Blvd. at about 10 a.m. to perform a welfare check on the occupants of one of the rooms, Sgt. Julian Villagomez said. When no one responded to their knocks, the officers forced open the door and found the bodies of 39-year-old Murrillo Jamies-Soto, his 16-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter in the room, he said.

All three appeared to have died from gunshot wounds and Jamies-Soto's wound appeared to have been self-inflicted, according to the sergeant. They checked into the motel less than 24 hours before their bodies were discovered, police said.

Fernando Ayón, a maintenance worker at the extended stay motel, told Fox 5 a woman came to the motel frantically looking for her children before police arrived. The woman said her husband had taken her kids and said had threatened to commit suicide, according to Ayón.

Investigators had not determined a possible motive for the alleged murder-suicide yet, Villagomez said.

California Father Suspected of Killing Son, Daughter, Himself
Published at 12:19 pm EST, June 28, 2012

Police suspect two children were killed by their father in a motel room Tuesday.

A maintenance man working at National City’s Paradise Motel was approached by a woman looking for her children at around 9 a.m. The worried mother said she had received a phone call from the father of her children saying he was going to commit suicide. She asked the maintenance worker, Fernando Ayon, if he had seen a man two children, a teenaged boy and a younger girl.
Ayon said the mother told him she did not call the authorities because she did not want to frighten the children, however, she ultimately made the call, asking for an urgent welfare check at the motel.

At around 10 p.m., the bodies of 39-year-old Maurillo Jaimes Soto, his 16-year-old son, Marco “Tony” Jaimes, and 11-year-old daughter, Maria Angelica Jaimes, were found in one of the motel’s rooms.

Police believe Soto killed his children while they slept before turning the gun on himself. The children were found in bed, and a gun was found next to Soto on the floor.

Investigators say they do not know the motive for the apparent double murder-suicide and a note was not left.
No one in the area reported hearing gun shots coming from the room and the bodies had been in the room less than 24 hours.

Tony was going to be a junior at Mission Bay High School once school resumed in August, while Maria would have entered seventh grade at Pacific Beach Middle School.
