HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – An alert UPS driver is getting credit for helping police find a father involved in a Virginia Amber Alert.

Around 4:10 a.m. Friday, the UPS driver called 911 after he spotted a vehicle on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield that matched the description of the vehicle involved in an abducted child case.

“I particularly want to commend the UPS driver in Chesterfield County for being alert to the VDOT highway message boards and making such an effort to look for the suspect vehicle,” Halifax County Sheriff Fred S. Clark said in a statement. “The Virginia AMBER Alert program played a critical role in helping us find this endangered little girl.”
Virginia State Police pulled over the 1985 Nissan along Interstate 95 south in Prince George County, Va. Eric Black, the driver and child’s father, was taken into custody. He is being held at Riverside Regional Jail in Hopewell, Clark said.

Two hours later, one-year-old Alexis Carwile and her mother Jennifer Carwile were found in a Prince Georges County, Maryland home. Jennifer Carwile, 35, of Campbell County, Va., is in police custody. The child is now in protective custody.

On Thursday, the Campbell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court awarded custody of Alexis to the county’s Department of Social Services.

“The child’s parents, Eric E. Black and Jennifer D. Carwile, refused to comply with the court order and abducted the child Thursday afternoon from a residence in Halifax County,” according to a statement from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

The one-year-old girl had been staying in Halifax County with a relative, the sheriff’s office said
