Normal Christopher Dorner manhunt: Investigators on wild goose chase?

Post by raine1953 on Sat Feb 09, 2013 3:04 am

MUST WATCH VIDEO!
BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (KABC) -- As the manhunt continues Friday for suspected cop killer Christopher Dorner, there is concern that he might be leading law enforcement on a wild goose chase.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, the ground and aerial search for Dorner would be suspended overnight Friday and will resume Saturday morning. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department also said that until they find some kind of evidence that Dorner is in fact not in the Big Bear area, they will continue to search for him.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Spokeswoman Cindy Bachman held a 4 p.m. PT news conference from the command station. Bachman said foot tracks were investigated, including ski tracks "associated with" the foot tracks, and were determined not to belong to Dorner.

A cabin six miles from the scene was found with its door kicked in. Authorities determined it was old damage and that there was no recent activity there.

Bachman confirmed that Dorner's mother owns property in Arrowbear, about 35 miles away from the scene. The property is undeveloped and has no structures built on it. Authorities investigated and cleared that site.

The sheriff's command station was moved from a golf course to the Big Bear sheriff's station on Summit Boulevard. The golf course was closer to the site of where Dorner's burning truck was found Thursday.

More than 100 law enforcement officers were conducting a door-to-door search of homes in the area. Sheriff's officials say they have two-man teams searching nearly 400 homes, but they're also warning residents not to open their doors unless they know the person or they see a uniformed law enforcement officer.

San Bernardino County Assistant Sheriff John McMahon told reporters during a Friday briefing that search teams are making sure to check approximately 200 unoccupied cabins in the area.

The only clue that Dorner was even in the Big Bear area was the discovery of his Nissan Titan pickup truck Thursday morning. The vehicle was found burning along a U.S. Forest Service road at about 8:30 a.m. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department later confirmed the truck belongs to Dorner. The truck was to be turned over to Irvine Police, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

The discovery of the truck brought local, state and federal law enforcement swarming to the ski resort community. An intense search turned up tracks in the snow leading that abruptly ended.

"Certainly, there has been time to get out of here, but we're not sure if he has in fact left. There's a number of places on the mountain that we haven't got to yet that we're continuing to search," said McMahon.

The search shut down Bear Mountain Ski Resort Thursday and placed local schools on lockdown. All Bear Valley Unified schools were closed Friday as a precaution due to the ongoing search. However, both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts were open.

Authorities hauled Dorner's truck to a San Bernardino crime lab Thursday. Investigators hope evidence found in the truck will provide some clues to Dorner's whereabouts.

Authorities concerned over Dorner's knowledge of police tactics

Authorities say Dorner may be utilizing his knowledge of both police and military tactics to evade capture.

In one of many troubling passages in Dorner's elaborate manifesto, he said "I know your techniques and tactics." It's a message aimed directly at Dorner's former colleagues in law enforcement, making it clear that he plans to use his police training to his advantage.

"If someone's got background in law enforcement, they've trained in tactics, they're going to have the knowledge and ability to predict our actions more than somebody that hasn't," said Mike Parker, a captain with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

So does that mean Dorner has been manipulating the manhunt?

"I think he's telling us, 'Look, I'm not going to follow a blueprint that you think I would predictably follow,'" said Brad Garret, a former FBI profiler and an ABC News security consultant. He says Dorner is probably taking precautions.

"Because of police training and military training, he would maybe do the obvious, like dump his cell phones, perhaps not use his credit cards," Garrett said.

As for an ending to this saga, Garrett says the chances of a peaceful resolution are slim.

"He's either going to get into a shootout with the police, kill himself, or luck might have it that they're able to grab him by surprise," he said.

The public got a glimpse into Dorner's abilities and training in a video from 2005 shown on Eyewitness News Friday night. The video was shot by a man who wanted to remain anonymous. In the video, Dorner is seen as a cadet, and it provides a look into the weapons he may be carrying.

La Palma Home of Dorner's mother searched

Meantime, authorities searched the La Palma home of Dorner's mother on Friday, hoping to find some clues.

"I wouldn't say it's a matter of routine, this is definitely part of our investigative strategy," said Lt. Bill Whalen with the Irvine PD. "This is a residence he was believed to have lived at. It's a residence belonging to his mother, so we're searching for any evidence related to where he might be or in connection with the crimes he is alleged to have committed."

The Irvine Police Department has the lead on the search warrant of the house, which is listed as one of Dorner's last known addresses. They're being assisted by La Palma police, LAPD, U.S. marshals and the FBI. They spent the day carrying objects in paper bags out of the home, while Dorner's mother and sister were inside.

Dorner suspect in double murder, police shootings

The 33-year-old former Los Angeles police officer triggered this massive manhunt after allegedly opening fire on three officers in the Inland Empire on Thursday, killing one.

The slain officer served with the Riverside Police Department, which has set up a fund for those who want to make donations to that officer's family.

You can mail checks to:

Riverside Police Officers Association Assistance Fund (RPOA)
1965 Chicago Ave, Suite B
Riverside, CA 92507

The chain of events began Sunday after an Irvine couple, Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence, were found shot to death inside a car in the parking garage of their apartment complex. Quan is the daughter of an LAPD captain who represented Dorner during disciplinary hearings, which resulted in his dismissal from the department.

Dorner implicated himself in the weekend retaliation murders in a multi-page manifesto, which also included his intent to restore his reputation by exacting revenge on specific officers he felt had a part in his firing.

Authorities emphasize that Dorner is armed and considered extremely dangerous. If seen, do not attempt to contact him and call 911.

Normal Bullets riddle Dillard’s house and car

Post by raine1953 on Sat Feb 09, 2013 1:50 pm

(This is from my old high school, it's the school newspaper and it describes what happened in Redondo Beach and Torrance (blocks apart) on the morning the cops went nuts.)

Chemistry teacher Linda Dillard awoke at 5:10 a.m. this morning to the sound of gunshots being fired outside her house.

Dillard’s house was caught in a flurry of bullets as LAPD officers opened fire on a blue pickup truck they thought ex-police officer Christopher Dorner was affiliated with.

“I shouldn’t have peeked out my windows, but I did, and there were the cops in my driveway, shooting. [After that,] we just heard a lot of police orders, but the shooting was over,” Dillard said.

Dorner, who was fired from the police force in 2008 for making false statements about his training officer, put up an online manifesto in which he threatened to wage “unconventional and asymmetric warfare” against the LAPD, according to the LA Times. He is suspected in the murder of three people: one police officer, the daughter of a police officer, and her fiance.

LAPD officers were in Dillard’s neighborhood to protect an officer named in the manifesto for his hand in getting Dorner fired from the police force.

However, the vehicle the LAPD officers shot at did not belong to Dorner. The truck belonged to two women delivering newspapers. According to the Daily Breeze, one was shot in the hand, the other in the back, but they are not in critical condition.

About an hour after the shooting, the police informed Dillard and her husband that they would be unable to drive their cars to work as they were now a part of the crime scene. As a result, college and career counselor Shannon Rodriguez drove her to school.

“It was unusual for me. Teachers don’t usually call each other so early in the morning, so immediately I thought something was wrong,” Rodriguez said. “She tells me her car has been pummelled by bullets and that she can’t leave her house without an escort, and I’m thinking, ‘I don’t believe this; things like this don’t happen.’”

When Rodriguez arrived at Dillard’s neighborhood, she was unable to get near the house because it was surrounded by police cruisers and news channel vans.

“I had no idea what was going on because I hadn’t seen the news that morning. Dillard hadn’t told me anything on the phone, so once I got there and looked around, I just thought to myself, ‘This is serious.’ Her husband’s car looked like swiss cheese,” she said.

Dillard said her husband heard about 100 rounds fired, some of which hit their property.

“Our cars, our garage door, and our house were hit,” Dillard said. “My husband’s car windows were hit and there were several bullets in the car. My car only had one bullet in it.”

Dillard feels “fortunate” that she was safe in her bedroom, located in the back of her house, at the time of the shooting.

“I was planning to wake up early this morning around 5 o’clock a.m. and go for a walk. In the end, I decided against it,” she said.

According to Los Angeles Times, Christopher Dorner is a black, 33-year-old male who is 6 feet tall and 270 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time of the shooting, he was thought to be driving a 2005 blue or black Nissan Titan and switching between the license plates 8D83987 and 7X09131. However, a burning truck was found near Big Bear Lake that matched the description of his vehicle.

Police now have Big Bear, Running Springs, Arrowbear, and Twin Peaks under lockdown and believe Dorner is hiding in the San Bernardino area. Police have warned the general public to stay alert and call 911 immediately if he is spotted.

I can't say what's legal and what's not but just think about it, this guy could get his hands on anything he wanted, legal or illegal. Plus the last video I posted was him in training in 2005 I believe so it was legal. This is where I'm shutting up about gun control for a while. Those cops were armed and it didn't do them any good. I'm glad for anyone packing that comes near this guy! MOO.

I just got off the phone w/my ex MIL who lives in NM but is from California. She said that she has a completely different "take" on this. She said that Dorner was a good guy doing his job and was terminated on false pretenses as he saw his Sargent harrassing that woman and when he spoke up, he was "let go from the force." She told me she was on jury duty in LA years ago and an LAPD officer was lying his azz off on the stand..that we all know LAPD has a bad reputation for beating people up (think Rodney King) and there are many dirty cops in the LAPD.

This may be true..he served his country, he was a cop, he harmed no one (that I know of) prior to all of this. HOWEVER, that does NOT give him the right of passage to kill innocent people. She did agree w/me but said she does not think peeps in LA or surrounding areas should be afraid..that he won't hurt anyone that doesn't have anything to do w/WHY he killed. Hope I am making sense here.

I do NOT agree w/her. I know as we all do that LAPD does not have a glowing reputation but be that as it may, this maniac made the choice to take his termination to the next level by going postal.

Raine, I so agree with what you said in re: to being glad for anyone packing that comes near this guy.

There's a lot of people who have the same take as your MIL. LAPD has a terrible reputation and there's been tons of unjustified shootings in the last year or two in my opinion. However, cops don't usually snitch cops out all the time and this guy did. He could have been telling the truth, it's not up to me to even judge but that gives him no excuse to do anything near what he did/will do. There had to be something horribly wrong with him for a long, long time to take things the way he did. He just got out of the military in February (I think) so I don't know if he is or was a cop wanna be but those are the worse. In no way do I usually stand up for LAPD but the innocents? Heck yea.
I think he had an agenda in serving his country, he's a sharp shooter after all.
No real news today on this moron. I wouldn't trust him not to shoot anyone, I think he's a sicko.

Also, I watched the video you posted of his ex speaking. She said he had guns everywhere and was extremely paranoid. So, I think he had an agenda early on and him being fired took him over the edge. NO EXCUSE for killing innocent people and terrorizing an entire state!

Normal LAPD to Re-Open Case into Fugitive Christopher Dorner's Termination

Post by Nama on Sat Feb 09, 2013 8:02 pm

The Los Angeles Police Department plans to reopen the case surrounding Christopher Dorner's termination from the force, Cmdr. Andrew Smith announced Saturday during a news conference.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck "wants the public to know that the Los Angeles police department is fair and transparent," Smith said, explaining the move.

Dorner is accused of killing an LAPD chief's daughter, her fiance, and a Riverside police officer as part of an alleged revenge-motivated shooting spree. In a chilling manifesto, Dorner said the violence will end when LAPD clears his name.

"The attacks will stop when the department states the truth about my innocence, PUBLICLY!!! I will not accept any type of currency/goods in exchange for the attacks to stop, nor do i want it. I want my name back, period," he wrote in the document published on his Facebook page. "There is no negotiation."

Dorner used the manifesto to recount his firing and declare his innocence. He was fired from the LAPD in 2008, after reporting another officer for alleged brutality – an accusation that investigators later said was false.

I hope the LAPD doesn't expect Dorner to give himself up because they said they would re-open the case. He's facing murder charges. He's not going to march into the nearest LE agency with his hands up!

“I feel we need to also publicly address Dorner’s allegations regarding his termination,” Police Chief Charlie Beck said in a written statement. “I do this not to appease a murderer. I do it to reassure the public that their Police Department is transparent and fair in all the things we do.”

In explaining why he chose to reopen Mr. Dorner’s case, Chief Beck acknowledged his department’s difficult history. Mr. Dorner has already lost his lawsuit against the department for wrongful termination.

“The Los Angeles Police Department has made tremendous strides in gaining the trust and confidence of the people we serve,” Chief Beck said in the statement. “Dorner’s actions may cause a pause in our increasingly positive relationship with the community, but it will not stop our commitment to provide courteous, professional and constitutional policing to each individual this department makes contact with. I am aware of the ghosts of the L.A.P.D.’s past, and one of my biggest concerns is that they will be resurrected by Dorner’s allegations of racism within the department.”

Normal Christopher Dorner Court And Police Records Show Ex-Cop Murder Suspect Was Sensitive, Disturbed

Post by raine1953 on Sun Feb 10, 2013 5:17 am

ORANGE, Calif. -- A photo never tells the whole story, and that's especially true for Christopher Dorner. The images on his Facebook page are essentially the same: Dorner, smiling, seemingly loving life and all it offers.

But they accompany a rambling document where he portrays himself as a real-life Rambo, an expert in weapons, explosives and military tactics who will stop at nothing to avenge his 2008 firing from the Los Angeles Police Department.

It's incongruous and it underscores the complexity of the man who now is the most wanted in America, accused of killing three people as he carries out his vendetta.

Where Dorner sees himself as a warrior, others see someone much different. The 6-foot, 270-pounder is a physical hulk who – despite his size – seemed to battle deep-seated insecurities, lived with his mother and cracked under the pressures of police work.

Court and police files show that Dorner once began weeping while on duty in a patrol car, awkwardly flashed his police badge on a first date and told a girlfriend he kept his emotions bottled up.

Those who study the psyches of criminals said Dorner's aggressive and self-aggrandizing rant indicates a classic case of malignant narcissist personality disorder. Some people with the disorder are extremely thin-skinned and vengeful, said Mary Ellen O'Toole, a retired FBI profiler.

They may seem insecure, she said, but in reality their rages – and even tears – are extreme reactions to real or imagined criticisms because they have such grandiose visions of themselves.

"He's putting in his manifesto that he's going to use all the training he received as an LAPD officer and as a military officer to basically hold Southern California hostage, and to be there when you least expect it," she said. "Is he deadly? Yes. Of course he has killed people."

"But is he capable of taking on some 1,000 officers looking for him? That's someone with a personality disorder," she said.

Dorner, 33, is accused of killing a woman last weekend whose father had represented him as he fought to keep his police job, and the woman's fiance. On Thursday, police say he ambushed two officers, killing one, and then vanished, setting off a manhunt that put police on alert across the Southwest.

The search Friday focused on the mountains around Big Bear Lake, about 80 miles east of Los Angeles. Police said officers still were guarding more than 40 people mentioned as targets in the rant.

The rambling manifesto was on a Facebook page that also includes smiling pictures of Dorner and critiques or politicians, musicians, and comedians. He also offers commentary on topics from gun control – he wants stricter laws for assault weapons – to sexual abuse by priests to the proper room temperature.

Court papers from 2006 show that Dorner requested a restraining order against a woman he had dated for six weeks after he said she posted his LAPD badge number and trash-talked about him on a website called dontdatehimgirl.com.

Dorner attached the lengthy posting he said was by his ex-girlfriend, Ariana Williams, as well as a handwritten note she apparently placed on his belongings when she returned them after they broke up.

In the web posting, Dorner is described as "severely emotionally and mentally disturbed," "twisted" and "super paranoid." It also said he flashed his police badge on their first date, lives with his mother and hates himself for being black – at one point asking her to act more like a white woman.

"Just be careful because this guy is a police officer and he will probably think that he can get away with anything. ... If you value your sanity, stay away from this guy."

Dorner claimed Williams was harassing him and sent a threatening letter to his home. He asked that she also stay away from his mother and sister. In her response, Williams denied Dorner's allegations.

Records show Dorner did not show up at a hearing in November 2006 and the case was terminated. She could not be reached to comment. Her attorney, Stephen G. Rodriguez, did not return a call or email seeking comment.

In 2008, after Dorner was deployed to Bahrain with the Navy Reserves, he returned to the LAPD and began to patrol with his training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans. He had worked for just four months after his graduation from the academy before being sent overseas.

In internal police papers, Evans said Dorner repeatedly asked why he was being put back on patrol without reintegration training. On one occasion, he began weeping in the patrol car and demanded to be taken back to the police academy to be retrained, according to a summary of an interview with Evans contained in 2009 court documents.

Evans warned Dorner that she would give him an unsatisfactory rating and request that he be removed from the field unless he improved. A day after she followed up on her threat with a poor review, Dorner reported to internal affairs that Evans had kicked a severely mentally ill man in the chest and left cheek during an arrest.

A police review panel ultimately found the allegation untrue and Dorner was fired for making a false statement.

In the manifesto, Dorner said the LAPD destroyed his life, ruined his relationships with his mother and sister and harmed his military career.

Those types of statements don't surprise O'Toole, the former FBI profiler, who said narcissists feel intense shame and humiliation when outside events challenge their perception of themselves.

"He's somebody I call an injustice collector," she said. "When they respond to an injustice that they think is out there, their reaction is completely over the top."

So, he's been screwed up mentally for a long time. He might be bi polar or be paranoid schizo..it sounds like the latter although I am not a shrink.

I think Charlie Sheen did that You Tube for publicity..GMAB. He didn't give out a phone number..if he was completely serious, he would have..he could get one of those pay as you go and have his rep's manning the phone.

Still wondering if this w/affect The Grammy Awards..w/there even be a Red Carpet? I would be somewhat afraid. MOO.

I hate to defend Sheen but he's really done a lot to help people. There's a cop in town and his daughter has some kind of horrible cancer and she needed something that the ins co wouldn't pay for. Sheen came to the rescue, it was kept fairly quiet but I found out from a friend and eventually it did make it to the press. I've heard of some other things. I kind of like Sheen, he seems to be honest, to a fault but it works. I'm sure that nut can get in touch w/ him (not that I think he will).

Hi wrapitup,

Thanks for sharing!

I can't judge much when it comes to this case as I don't know details and lack the concentration to read all the posts shared. confused

Obviously, I would like for this dude to be stopped and I wish that all the lives involved wouldn't have to go through all they went through up to this point.

But, today I turned on the tv and saw something that really bothers me.

I looked around on this site and couldn't figure out if there's a place where one can just B#### for a second - in appropriate language of course, no need for vulgarities. a fit

I couldn't find it (which is probably because of being challenged) so I came here because it has to do with this case:

I apologize if I offend anyone, but I find it highly ridiculous that a million dollars is offered for things that lead to the capture of this man. thinking

I understand that he is a serious threat, i do. I have seen an enormous amount of violence and I understand why he needs to be stopped. agreed

But I can't help but think that a million bucks can be offered for someone who killed police officer ~ what about people who harm(ed) the precious children of the world? 🇳🇴

I don't know peeps, it hurts when seeing this kind of stuff, because within my little-big heart resides equality... confused

Thanks for reading my 2 cents

PS. Dearest Wrappy angel would you mind bringing my old behind into this century by emailing (don't want to clutter the forum) me and telling me what GMAB and MOO mean? bump

I am always behiiiind :thanks:

Normal Massive reward offer for Christopher Dorner

Post by Wrapitup on Sun Feb 10, 2013 4:47 pm

CBS/AP/ February 10, 2013, 4:24 PM
Updated 5:20 p.m. ET

BIG BEAR LAKE, CALIF. Authorities are offering a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles police officer suspected in three killings who is the subject of a manhunt in Southern California.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the reward at a news conference at LAPD headquarters Sunday. The L.A. mayor said it is only a question of time before Dorner is caught, and that the confidence of officials is "unshaken," despite it being seven days since the killings began.

"Our dedication to catch this killer remains steadfast," Villaraigosa said. "We will not tolerate this reign of terror."

Riverside City Mayor Rusty Bailey said the reward was gathered from a combination of public and private groups, and that gathering it was "easy," given the extreme local interest in the situation.

Some 80 miles to the east, SWAT teams with bloodhounds and helicopter support continued to scour snow-covered mountains near Big Bear, where the 33-year-old fugitive's charred pickup truck was discovered Thursday. There have been no sightings of Dorner himself in Big Bear, although surveillance footage outside an auto store in National City, south of San Diego, caught him dumping bullets and other potential evidence last Monday, CBS affiliate KFMB reports.

KCBS in Los Angeles reports about 50 law enforcement officers began the search combing the snow-capped terrain this weekend with the assistance of two heat-seeking helicopters. By Sunday, 25 officers and a single helicopter were looking for clues in the forest and going door-to-door at some 600 cabins in the San Bernardino mountains.

On Saturday, LAPD announced it had formed a task force with the sole mission of finding Dorner, KFMB reports. The task force consists of several law enforcement agencies across Southern California.

Authorities say Dorner has vowed revenge against several former LAPD colleagues whom he blames for ending his career.

Earlier, Police Chief Charlie Beck announced officials will re-examine the allegations by Dorner that his law enforcement career was undone by racist colleagues. While he promised to hear out Dorner if he surrenders, Beck stressed that he was ordering a review of his 2007 case because he takes the allegation of racism in his department seriously.

"I do this not to appease a murderer. I do it to reassure the public that their police department is transparent and fair in all the things we do," the chief said in a statement.

At Sunday's press conference, Villaigrosa and Beck bristled at suggestions that the police department was somehow responsible Dorner's behavior. Beck said many things go into making an individual, and that Dorner likely had problems predating his experience as a police officer.

In his online manifesto, Dorner vowed to use "every bit of small arms training, demolition, ordnance and survival training I've been given" to bring "warfare" to the LAPD and its families.

Dorner served in the Navy, earning a rifle marksman ribbon and a pistol expert medal. He was assigned to a naval undersea warfare unit and various aviation training units, according to military records. He took leave from the LAPD for a six-month deployment to Bahrain in 2006 and 2007.

The flight training that he received in the Navy prompted the Transportation Security Administration to issue an alert, warning the general aviation community to be on the lookout for Dorner. The extent of his potential flying skills wasn't known, the bulletin said.

Feb. 1 was his last day with the Navy and also the day CNN's Anderson Cooper received a package that contained a note on it that read, in part, "I never lied." A coin riddled with bullet holes that former Chief William Bratton gave out as a souvenir was also in the package.

Police said it was a sign of planning by Dorner before the killing began.

On Feb. 3, police say Dorner shot and killed a couple in a parking garage at their condominium in Irvine. The woman was the daughter of a retired police captain who had represented Dorner in the disciplinary proceedings that led to his firing.

Dorner wrote in his manifesto that he believed the retired captain had represented the interests of the department over his.

Hours after authorities identified Dorner as a suspect in the double murder, police believe Dorner shot and grazed an LAPD officer in Corona and then used a rifle to ambush two Riverside police officers early Thursday, killing one and wounding the other. A funeral for Officer Michael Crain, an 11 year veteran, was scheduled for Wednesday.

The crime spree spanned across a wide swath of Southern California, prompting several police agencies, including the FBI and US Marshall Service, to form a joint investigative task force.

Thanks for your reply and for sending me the link:

I shall venture further on my quest to (hopefully) enter the right century! rocking smile Only thing left is to find a way to enter the right orbit as well - and I'll be good to go! :cheering:

I am glad that you agree about the amount on this case and i hope that someday things like that would be more balanced (not necessary would be best, but sadly that is probably not happening any time soon). It's not always easy because i've found that people sometimes don't understand/don't wish to understand that when I comment on a video or something - that there is a distinct difference between insight and condoning. And they may feel that I stick up for a perpetrator or that i am ok with what that person does/did. I simply see many different sides to just about everything in life.

"Wrap" it is! flowerpower But remember, since it made you lyao - if you ever wish to lose weight, I'll happily call you "wrappy" again... bump

Thank you for all that you do.

There are 40 families who are being protected by various LE agencies and I'm sure there's tons of kids among those families. I think the million dollar bounty is fitting and proper if it brings this guy in before he kills another living soul. I guess you're right Raine,

and my little-big heart hurts for those peeps just as much.

That is why I didn't mention that I did not want the amount offered in regards to the people you mention, but more like it just "happens" to be offered in a case concerning law enforcement. This does not affect me on a personal level, but it just bothered me the way this guy on the news was talking about that - just like in any profession: not every law enforcement person is as honorable as the next.

As for someone like me, who lives in an area saturated with sex offenders - I can't quite help but acknowledge that there are quite a few people at risk in areas like this every day.

There are no real comparisons because hurt is hurt and so you have a valid point here - simple as that.

Wrapitup: no worries - was just an offer.
I may very well have picked up the pounds you've shed and then some - and I don't need to lose either.

Weight is in the observance of the carrier :-)

I will say that just because this is LE the million $ should not make a difference. If we had a child killer they were looking for or even a kidnapped child then the $ should be the same. Not that it would be but I do agree. Out here LAPD doesn't have a good reputation and for good reason. MOO.

Absolutely, Raine!

It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

So sad, you know?

I know I shouldn't mix topics...but here there are missing and/or murdered persons/children cases and I'm on another site right now as well, and this woman is about to to lose her precious child (2 1/2) to an illness and just doesn't know how to live through that.

And then there are so many who take life for granted, take people for granted and ruin/take lives...like it's nothing. It makes me cry - but every tear is worth it, because those people who go through all the heartbreak are worth it... cryingagain

Normal Christopher Dorner Manhunt: Possible Sighting of Fugitive Ex-Cop Leads to Store Evacuation

Post by Wrapitup on Mon Feb 11, 2013 11:38 am

A Northridge, Calif., home improvement store was evacuated tonight because of a possible sighting of suspected cop-killer Christopher Dorner, just hours after police announced a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

As helicopters hovered overhead and a command center was established, police searched the Lowe's store and eventually told shoppers they could leave, but could not take their cars out of the parking lot.

LAPD spokesman Gus Villanueva said the major response to the possible sighting was a precaution, but couldn't say whether Dorner was in the area.

The announcement of the $1 million reward today came as authorities in Big Bear, Calif., scaled back their search for Dorner, the disgruntled ex-cop who is suspected in three revenge killings.

"This is the largest local reward ever offered, to our knowledge," Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said at a news conference today. "This is an act of domestic terrorism. This is a man who has targeted those that we entrust to protect the public. His actions cannot go unanswered."

The money for the reward was pooled by businesses, government, local law enforcement leaders and individual donors, Beck said.

The reward comes on the fourth day of a manhunt for Dorner, who has left Southern California on edge after he allegedly went on a killing spree last week to avenge his firing from the police force. Dorner outlined his grievances in a 6,000 word so-called "manifesto" and said he will keep killing until the truth is known about his case.

Dorner's threats have prompted the LAPD to provide more than 50 law enforcement families with security and surveillance detail, Beck said.

Authorities are chasing leads, however they declined to say where in order to not impede the investigation.

Dorner's burned-out truck was found Thursday near Big Bear Lake, a popular skiing destination located 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Investigators found two AR-15 assault rifles in the burned-out truck Dorner abandoned, sources told ABC News.

The truck had a broken axle, which may be the reason he decided to set fire to it, the police sources said.

Officers have spent the past couple of days going door-to-door and searching vacant cabins. The manhunt was scaled back to 25 officers and one helicopter in the resort town today, according to the San Bernadino Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, Beck announced he would reopen the investigation into Dorner's firing but said the decision was not made to "appease" the fugitive ex-cop.

"I feel we need to also publicly address Dorner's allegations regarding his termination of employment, and to do so I have directed our Professionals Standards Bureau and my Special Assistant for Constitutional Policing to completely review the Dorner complaint of 2007; To include a re-examination of all evidence and a re-interview of witnesses," Beck said. "We will also investigate any allegations made in his manifesto which were not included in his original complaint."

Dorner is suspected of killing Monica Quan and her fiancé Keith Lawrence last Sunday in their car in the parking lot of their Irvine, Calif., condominium complex. Both were struck with multiple gunshot wounds.

Quan's father, Randal Quan, was a retired captain with the LAPD and attorney who represented Dorner before a police review board that led to Dorner's dismissal from the force in 2008.

On Wednesday, after Dorner was identified as a suspect in the double murder, police believe he ambushed two Riverside police officers, killing one and wounding the other.

The next day, Randal Quan reported he received a taunting call from a man claiming to be Dorner who told him that he "should have done a better job of protecting his daughter," according to court documents documents.

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of Christopher Dorner is asked to call the LAPD task force at 213-486-6860.

Normal EX-COP CHRISTOPHER DORNER SHOPS FOR SCUBA GEAR 2 Days Before Murders (VIDEO)

Post by raine1953 on Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:48 pm

Alleged cop killer Christopher Dorner went to a Southern California sporting goods store 2 days before he began his murder spree to purchase scuba equipment ... and TMZ has obtained the surveillance video.

Dorner went to Sports Chalet in Torrance -- a beachside community in the L.A. area -- on February 1st. The video shows Dorner carrying in 2 small, yellow scuba tanks as he walks into the scuba section. Sources tell us ... Dorner got the tanks refilled with oxygen.

The video then shows Dorner leaving the scuba section with the 2 yellow tanks, along with another large, black scuba tank. Dorner then goes to the counter, and then has a friendly conversation with the cashier, at times laughing.

Dorner -- who was a member of a Naval undersea warfare unit -- pays cash for the items and then leaves.

The surveillance tape shows Dorner arriving at Sports Chalet at 9:21 PM and leaving at 9:38 PM, just as the store closed.

The bodies of the first 2 victims were found at 9 PM on February 3rd -- 48 hours after Dorner's trip to Sports Chalet.

What's really interesting ... Dorner reportedly tried stealing a boat in San Diego on February 6th ... where scuba gear might come in handy. The plan was thwarted when the prop got tangled in a rope.

Sources tell TMZ ... the U.S. Marshals went to Sports Chalet Sunday and got a copy of the surveillance video.

Law enforcement sources involved in the case have confirmed to TMZ ... the man in the video is indeed Dorner. And, as one law enforcement source put it, the video is significant because "it shows what he was up to."

can you believe that I never even thought of that? pulling hair

When you posted this, I was probably way over-thinking it. I tried to think of whether there were places in the US where someone could have planned ahead and could cause serious things by blowing up things from under the water. confused Suspect

Eeeeeh duuuh! Then that person would probably not have to go into a store for scuba-gear - he'd already have it! fingertap

Besides, I can't remember the way to friends five minutes from here: there's no way I would've been able to figure out what he could have planned anyway! crazy3

You are probably right, and his behind may very well be sitting in a beautiful place. head bang

Thanks for updating, there's a lot to say for people like you who care so deeply and I very much appreciate what you do. Big Hug

Normal Ex-LAPD officer accused of killings thought to have fled to Mexico

Post by Wrapitup on Tue Feb 12, 2013 12:01 pm

By Lauren Steussy, Jonathan Lloyd and Melissa Pamer, NBCLosAngeles.com

Former Los Angeles Police Department officer Christopher Dorner -- the suspect in three killings that have targeted law enforcement and the subject of a continuing manhunt -- was suspected last week of fleeing to Mexico, according to a federal court document.

The criminal complaint filed in federal court on Feb. 7 charges Dorner with fleeing to avoid prosecution. It states that there was reason to believe he had crossed the border into Mexico.

An affidavit included in the complaint (pdf) was written by U.S. Marshals Service Inspector Craig McClusky the same day that the search for Dorner led to his burned out truck in the mountain resort of Big Bear.

On day five of the manhunt for Christopher Dorner, who is suspected of killing three people, the Riverside District Attorney filed charges against Dorner including one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. The LAPD has assigned officers to protect 50 families the accused cop killer has threatened, and a $1 million reward is now being offered for information leading to Dorner's arrest. NBC's Miguel Almager reports.

McClusky recounted the Irvine Police Department's request for assistance from the U.S. Marshal Service in finding Dorner after he became a suspect in the Feb. 3 killing of Keith Lawrence and Monica Quan, who is the daughter of an LAPD official mentioned by Dorner is a manifesto that details his alleged revenge plot.

McClusky described "the recent observations of a suspect matching Dorner's description attempting to flee to Mexico," and stated "there is probable cause to believe that Dorner has moved and traveled in interstate and foreign commerce from California to Mexico" to avoid prosecution.

The document also states that U.S. Marshals were tracking a Dorner associate identified only as "J.Y.," who had been spotted in Costa Mesa, Calif., near Irvine.

The search for Dorner continued in Big Bear on Monday, even as police followed multiple reports of sightings of the former officer that turned out to be false.

Also on Monday, the Riverside County District Attorney's office filed a charge of murder against Dorner in the shooting death of Officer Michael Crain, who was killed in what authorities have described as an ambush.
Crain was shot Thursday while he and his 27-year-old trainee partner were sitting at a traffic light near the Riverside Freeway.

"We felt the state of the evidence dictated there was no reason to withhold filing charges," Riverside County District Attorney Paul Zellerbach said. "He's a felon at large."

The LAPD on Sunday announced a $1 million reward in the case. More than 600 tips have been received, according to the department.

Christopher Dorner was engaged in a shootout with federal authorities in the Big Bear area Tuesday, a law enforcement source told The Times.

The shooting occurred after Dorner burglarized a home, tied up a couple and stole their car, the source said.

It was not immediately clear whether Dorner was in custody.

I ithink he's in a cabin, it's surrounded, shots fired. He (if this is him) broke into a cabin, tied two females up, did not hurt them. One of them got away, called LE. I don't know if this is on CNN but it's something. No time to find links

Per CNN HLN two police officers have been shot. Active pursuit taking place right now. Reports NOW that Dorner has been pinned down........not sure if it means pinned down to the ground or pinned down to an area. Little confusing.

Schools in lock down. A LE officer said that he is on foot, but she also said he was in a cabin.

Christopher Dorner was shot at by a fish and game ranger, as he fled in a stolen vehicle in north-east Los Angeles, Reuters is reporting.

The agency states that earlier Dorner had broken into a home, tied up a couple and stole their pick-up truck.

Local media is also reporting it is believed one of the hostages was able to flee and raise the alarm.
