This 15 year old girl is missing in Maine. Her mother says she was going to meet someone from facebook and she never came back. Part of the story seems confusing, because mom says she did meet someone in her driveway from fb, but that person turned out to be not the person she thought it would be. This Brian Butterfield has evidently approached other young girls on fb also. There is a real Brian, this guy just stole his name.

GLENBURN — The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department is looking for a missing 15-year-old girl from Glenburn.

Authorities said Tuesday that Nichole Cable was last seen by her parents at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies will not say if her disappearance is suspicious or if she is in danger, but they want to hear from anyone who has information about her whereabouts.

Cable has light brown hair and blue eyes and weighs 90 pounds. She is a student at Old Town High School.

Her mother, Kristine Willey, told WABI-TV that the girl was scheduled to meet someone she had met on Facebook.

The guy that was messaging Nichole had stolen another local local person's identity. (There is a real Bryan Butterfield.) He had been messaging females in that area with that stolen identity for over a year.

Post by raine1953 Fri May 17, 2013 12:55 pm

BANGOR, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and several partner agencies are following up on at least 60 leads that have come in over the last 24 hours in the effort to find a missing 15-year-old Glenburn girl.

Nichole Cable was last seen Sunday evening on Route 221 in her hometown, county law enforcement officials said earlier this week.

Her parents, Jason and Kristine Wiley, reported her missing the next morning. County authorities immediately issued a missing person alert.

As of Thursday afternoon, the teenager’s disappearance was classified as “an active missing person investigation,” Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross said during a news conference at the former county courthouse.

During the conference, Ross and Chief Deputy Troy Morton, along with Maine State Police Maj. Gary Wright and Lt. Kevin Adam of the Maine Warden Service, described steps being taken to reunite the Glenburn girl with her family.

Ross and Morton said that as of Thursday morning, they had fielded 60 tips and are pursuing each and every one of them.

Morton said Thursday that police want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything of note between 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 a.m. Monday on Route 221, commonly known as Hudson Road, between the Pushaw Road intersection and the Route 43 intersection, near Roger’s Market.

Her parents, who issued an emotional plea for Nichole’s return during a news conference on Wednesday morning, did not attend Thursday’s gathering. Ross and Morton said Nichole’s family has asked that the media abstain from visiting their home for the time being.

Among the resources the agency has brought in are personnel and expertise from the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, The National Center for Missing Children, Bangor Police Department and others, Penobscot County Chief Deputy Troy Morton said.

On Thursday, the warden service brought an airplane to the Glenburn area to search camp roads and other remote locations from overhead.

Police and family members also have turned to social networking resources, including a “Bring Nichole Cable Home” Facebook page, to spread the word about Cable’s disappearance. Family and friends also are posting flyers in high visibility locations throughout Penobscot County and beyond.

On their Facebook page, the Old Town High School student’s parents say that they believe their daughter was last known to be with a male using a fictitious name on a Facebook account. A Bangor High School student with the same name was questioned by police.

“We are well aware of that theory,” Ross said Thursday. “We have interviewed him and there is nothing at this point that would indicate any other action is needed by our department there.

“But this is an active investigation. His name is out there and perhaps he’s concerned that he might be misaccused.”

The Bangor High student told WLBZ in Bangor that he has been cleared by police.

Police agencies throughout the state have shared Cable’s description on Facebook, along with New England Cable News, based in Boston.

As of Thursday, Ross and Morton have declined to comment on whether they think the Old Town High School student may have been abducted or if she had run away.

The computer crimes unit is working to trace her steps online and with her cellphone. Morton said Wednesday that he could not say if police believe she still has her phone.

Asked what wardens and members of Maine Search and Rescue are looking for in their ground searches, Adams said, “In any search, really, we’re looking for clues, which could be footprints, clothing, any kind of clue that they leave. You follow those clues and you should find the person.”

Cable stands 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs 90 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. The teen has her nose, lip and ears pierced.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585.

15 yr old Nicole Cable, missing in Maine, parent's say she was last known to be w/ a man using a fictitious name on Facebook/Body found, LE believes it's Nicole/20 yr old Kyle Dube arrested for murder Empty Search continues for missing Glenburn teenager

Post by raine1953 Fri May 17, 2013 12:58 pm

BANGOR, Maine — Multiple law enforcement agencies continue to search for a Glenburn teenage girl and are hoping multiple leads will aid the process.

Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross said Friday morning police are still hard at work looking for 15-year-old Nichole Cable, who has been missing from her Route 221 home since Sunday evening.

State police, Maine Warden Service officials and numerous other law enforcement agencies will continue to work on the case throughout the day while game wardens will continue to search the Glenburn area, according to Ross.

State police officials were at the sheriff’s office in Bangor Friday morning assisting deputies with the investigation, the sheriff said. Both state police and game wardens will use K-9 units in the search for Cable.

Cable’s parents, Jason and Kristine Wiley, attended a Wednesday news conference and pleaded for their daughter’s return while the couple was not present at a Thursday media conference. Ross and Chief Deputy Troy Morton have encouraged the media to not visit the parents’ residence.

Ross’ department has received more than 60 tips, all of which police are following up on, he said.

“If we develop more information, we will get it out there,” the sheriff said. “We’re just continuing to follow leads and share information with various agencies.”

Social media has been heavily used in the search for Cable as well, with a Facebook group, “Bring Nichole Cable Home,” having more than 4,800 members as of Friday morning. Fliers have been posted by family and friends throughout Penobscot County.

On their Facebook page, the Old Town High School student’s parents said they believe their daughter was last known to be with a male using a fictitious name on a Facebook account.

Ross and Morton have declined to say whether Cable was abducted or ran away from her home, stating the case remains a missing persons case.

Cable stands 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs 90 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. She also has her lip, nose and ears pierced.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office at 947-4585.

Thanks for the updates, Raine! They are looking for a black Ranger truck now.

Glenburn - A teenager from Glenburn is still missing. Nichole Cable, 15, has not been seen since Mother's Day.

Her mother says she went out to the driveway and met someone she only knew from Facebook. Nichole reportedly texted a friend at 9:18pm Sunday, but no one has heard from her since.

Wardens, police, members of the FBI and other agencies spent most of Friday searching a wooded area near Nichole's mother's house off of Route 221 in Glenburn. Authorities have removed a section of the ground that has tire marks on it.

Deputies are asking for the public's help find a black Ford Ranger type truck. If you saw one matching that description in the area of Route 221 near Route 43 and Rogers Market or near West Old Town between 8pm Sunday and 2am Monday, call police.

"This is only a vehicle that we have interest in due to information that's been given to us. It may or may not have been seen in the area so we cannot draw any inferences that this is the suspect's vehicle , it may or may not be. We need to rule it in or rule it out," said Penobscot County Sheriff, Glenn Ross.

"From day one we have brought in the maximum amount of resources available to us. We'll continue doing that until we find Nichole," added Chief Deputy Troy Morton with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department.

This case is still being called a missing person case, and there is a lot of information deputies cannot tell us at this point. Deputies will say they are following a lot of solid leads, but will not say if they have any suspects.

Nichole's mother has made emotional pleas to her daughter this week, saying she loves her and just wants her to be home.

There will be no more press conferences this weekend, but deputies do plan to update the media through e-mail.

If you have any information call police.

Post by raine1953 Tue May 21, 2013 10:31 am

Authorities in Maine believe they have discovered the body of a 15-year-old girl hidden in a wooded area 20 miles from her home.
Nichole Cable of Glenburn, Maine, was last seen by her parents at her home around 9 p.m. on May 12. Her parents believe she may have run off with a man she met on Facebook who was using a fake profile under the name Bryan Butterfield.
Authorities discovered the body in Old Town, about 20 miles from her home, around 9:30 p.m. Monday. They notified Nichole's parents that they believed the body belongs to their daughter. The remains will be formally identified on Tuesday.

The body was uncovered after an extensive search of the area with a helicopter and K-9 units. Before combing the woods, police had conducted two informational roadblocks between 8 p.m.
Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday. Authorities said more than 100 motorists passed through the road checks and provided two dozen pieces of new information for investigators.
On a Facebook page labeled Bring Nichole Cable Home, Nichole's mother, Kristine Willey, wrote, 'Please if you have my CoCo, drop her off at a gas station or a park so she can call for help or for me to come get her.

'I dont care who you are, I just want her home. She's just a little girl of 15 with her whole life ahead of her. Please bring her home!'
Her father had noted last week that his daughter's phone had been shut off and he had 'not heard any word from her through social media or friends.'

15 yr old Nicole Cable, missing in Maine, parent's say she was last known to be w/ a man using a fictitious name on Facebook/Body found, LE believes it's Nicole/20 yr old Kyle Dube arrested for murder Empty Family remembers Nichole “CoCo” Cable, warns of social media dangers

Post by raine1953 Tue May 21, 2013 6:51 pm

GLENBURN, Maine — Clutching a panda bear pillow close to her chest because it smelled like her daughter, Kristine Wiley said parents need to be vigilant about their children’s online activity.

“If this saves somebody else’s child, then this won’t have happened for nothing,” Wiley said through her tears Tuesday afternoon in her Spruce Lane home.

Police found what they believe is 15-year-old Nichole Cable’s body near a dirt road off Gilman Falls Avenue in Old Town at about 9:30 p.m. Monday night. Kyle Dube, 20, of Orono was charged with intentional and knowing murder about 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, but police have not said what led to his arrest.

Investigators have not released details about what, if any, relationship Cable had with her accused killer, but family members say social media played a role in the events that led to her death. They said they could not provide details of the investigation, but that more information would be released in the coming days. Cable’s biological father declined to comment Tuesday.

Tyler-Ann Harris, a friend of Cable’s who attended a police press conference Tuesday, said Dube and Cable had been “hanging out” for the past 1½ to two months.

Cable’s stepfather, Jason Wiley, said parents should have access to their young children’s social media accounts and text messages, “no matter how upset kids get with the invasion of privacy,” because it could save a life.

Family members called Nichole “CoCo.”

She loved upbeat music, things she could dance to. She loved her family and was close to three half sisters, Annabelle, 7; Emma, 5 and Julia, 2. She has a 19-year-old full brother named David and stepbrother named Michael.

While she talked about her daughter, Kristine Wiley clutched a picture of a wide-smiling Nichole.

“She’s a wonderful big sister, and I know she’s going to be watching them and taking care of them,” Wiley said.

The only times she stopped crying were when she told stories about CoCo.

Nichole Cable was always glued to her cellphone, texting friends from school, her mother said. Often, family members would find their cellphone chargers missing because Cable had moved them to a different part of the house so she could charge her own.

Two years ago, the family took a two-week camping trip to Moosehead Lake. Cable, who wasn’t an outdoors person, struggled with the separation from technology.

“It was so hard on her because she couldn’t text because there wasn’t any reception,” Wiley said.

“She was so loving, she was so trusting,” she said. “There’s no evil in the world when you’re 15.”

Harris, a friend of Cable’s from Old Town High School, said her friend was a fighter.

“She had attitude — she was a teenage girl,” Harris said.

The 16-year-old sophomore said Cable became her friend at the beginning of the school year and had lived with her for a short time.

She said Cable spent the night at her house on the Friday before she went missing.

“She was really happy even though she went through a lot of stuff in her life,” Harris said, not giving specifics about Cable’s hardships. “She was just happy all the time.”

The Wileys thanked police, as well as all the agencies and individuals who looked for Nichole after she disappeared on Mother’s Day night, including a large-scale, 500-plus-person search effort on Sunday.

During bouts of crying along with friends and family members visiting the home Tuesday, Wiley repeated, “I need my baby back.

“How do you go on?” she asked.

“One day at a time,” a woman comforting Wiley replied.

15 yr old Nicole Cable, missing in Maine, parent's say she was last known to be w/ a man using a fictitious name on Facebook/Body found, LE believes it's Nicole/20 yr old Kyle Dube arrested for murder Empty Orono man facing murder charge in connection with death of missing Glenburn teen

Post by raine1953 Tue May 21, 2013 6:56 pm

BANGOR, Maine — A 20-year-old Orono man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Nichole Cable, a 15-year-old girl from Glenburn whose body police believe was discovered Monday night in a wooded area of Old Town, Maine State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman said Tuesday.

Kyle Dube was charged with intentional and knowing murder about 11 a.m. but Coleman said, “I am not at liberty to go into details about what led to the arrest.”

Coleman would not say if the two knew each other, but Tyler-Ann Harris, a friend of Cable’s from Old Town High School who was at the press conference, stated emotionally before a room filled with media that Dube and Cable had been “hanging out” for the last 1½ to two months.

Information from “several different sources” led investigators to Gilman Falls in Old Town, located along Route 43, where “a game warden and his dog located a female body” about 9:30 p.m. Monday, said Coleman, who leads the major crime unit for northern Maine.

Dube turned himself in at the Penobscot County Jail on Thursday to begin serving a 90-day sentence for a high-speed motorcycle chase and crash in June 2012, according to court records and jail officials.

His first court appearance on the murder charge is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, which is when more details about the crime will be released in a court affidavit, Coleman said.

Stephen Smith, a Bangor lawyer, confirmed Tuesday morning that he has been appointed to represent the man.

The Maine State Police, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Orono police were at the Dubes’ residence at 5 Maplewood Ave. on Wednesday, May 15, according to neighbors James and Deborah Bowie. The Maine State Police Mobile Crime Unit was there Sunday and Monday, they said.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Sunday night that he didn’t have any information on why the crime lab was there, but the neighbors said the mother of that household told them that Cable had been there about a week earlier to visit and that she reported that to police.

Neighbors said Dube reportedly had been using his father’s black Ford Ranger for work purposes. The truck has been impounded, state police confirmed Tuesday.

Dube’s Facebook page shows he twice posted the flier about Nichole Cable being missing last week. On Monday, the day after Nichole went missing, he reportedly posted the following:

“OK so I don’t with the droma. Let’s get this straight. I KYLE DUBE is and always will be with [my girlfriend]. We have had are up and downs but we have worked them out so stop talking to me if you are trying to flirt and guys you better stop hitting on [her] I get crazy when I’m pissed off and I’m about there.”

Early Tuesday morning, authorities were in the woods near the Stillwater River in Old Town at the site where a body believed to be Cable was found.

State police and other law enforcement personnel were gathered near the intersection of Routes 43 and 16 and were seen putting up yellow crime scene tape about 9:30 a.m. A state police spokesman confirmed the activity at the scene was related to the discovery of the body Monday night. A black minivan was seen entering the barricaded area and leaving minutes later.

The girl’s parents were told of the development by members of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police. Jason Wiley, who is married to Cable’s mother, Kristine, answered his door on Tuesday morning and said an investigator was going to arrive shortly to give them an update. He declined to comment until after speaking with the investigator. Shortly before 11 a.m., two unmarked state police vehicles arrived at the house.

Nichole Cable was last seen at her home on Spruce Lane on the evening of May 12, and her parents thought she was taken by someone using a false Facebook profile, according to the family’s Facebook page, Bring Nichole Cable Home.

Cable’s young teenaged friend said she believes that Dube created the fake Facebook page, but Harris added, “I don’t know why. They were already hanging out. I don’t know what else to think.”

Cable lived with Harris for a couple of weeks, at one point, and she spent the night at her house on Friday before she went missing, Harris said.

“It’s been really hard. I’ve been really scared,” the Old Town High School sophomore said, adding that she is relieved that her friend is not suffering. “It’s been really hard to just wait and not know.”

Grief counseling has been set up at Old Town High School for students, a school secretary said Tuesday morning.

Dube was arrested last June after he led police on a chase that reached speeds of 150 mph from Orono to Howland via Interstate 95 before it ended with his motorcycle hitting a police cruiser at the town offramp.

The chase resulted in charges of eluding police officers, driving to endanger and criminal speeding.

Dube slowed enough, evading two partial roadblocks, to apparently avoid injury in the crash. He refused hospitalization from Penobscot Valley Hospital paramedics at the scene, state police said at that time.

Dube told Hashey after the crash that he evaded the trooper because “he was scared and just basically didn’t want a ticket,” Trooper Chris Hashey said.

The crash caused at least $2,000 in damage to the cruiser.

Hashey said the incident began when he noticed an orange 2002 Yamaha motorcycle among a group of vehicles speeding northbound about 90 mph while he was monitoring traffic at Orono’s Exit 193 about 1 p.m.

Hashey said he was approaching the vehicles from behind with his lights and sirens off when the motorcycle broke away, hitting what Hashey clocked as 136 mph.

Dube had been issued his motorcycle learner’s permit three days before that arrest, Hashey said.

He was a juvenile, 17 years old, when he was charged for carrying a loaded firearm or crossbow in a motor vehicle that resulted in a January 2011 conviction and $200 fine, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.

Dube also has a theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and burglary of motor vehicle and convicted of both crimes and in January 2012 was sentenced to a $300 fine for both, the BDN archives state.

15 yr old Nicole Cable, missing in Maine, parent's say she was last known to be w/ a man using a fictitious name on Facebook/Body found, LE believes it's Nicole/20 yr old Kyle Dube arrested for murder Empty Maine man appears in court in missing teen's death

Post by raine1953 Thu May 23, 2013 5:54 pm

(NECN: Amy Sinclair) - The Maine Medical Examiner's office has now confirmed that the body found in the woods is that of Glenburn teenager Nichole Cable.

Wednesday, the 20-year old Orono, Maine man accused of killing her on Mother's Day made his first court appearance in Bangor.

Kyle Dube stared straight ahead, showing no emotion, as he walked into the packed Bangor courtroom, but family and friends of the victim were visibly shaken by his presence.

"I want to know why he would do such a thing to an innocent little girl?" said Cable's good friend Ashley Patershall.

According to friends who knew them both, Dube and Cable had been hanging out casually for about two months.

But on the night of May 12, police say he killed her, leaving her body in the woods by the Stillwater River in Old Town, leaving her distraught family to look for her for another eight days until Wardens discovered her body Monday night.

"Obviously the age of the victim is critically important factor," said Andrew Benson who will try the case for the Attorney General's office. "It's disturbing."

There are many unanswered questions in this case including motive, but for now, the judge has sealed the affidavit while he considers a defense request to impound it.

Dube's attorney says releasing it could prejudice a jury, interfere with pre-trial proceedings, and potentially put his client in harm's way.

"There have been threats made against him. I'm concerned and we ask the public to show some restraint," says Defense Attorney Stephen Smith.

Cable's family said the teen left home that Sunday night after communicating with a man on Facebook who may have been using a fake profile.

Whether or not Cable knew she was meeting up with Dube is unclear.

"Clearly electronic media was involved in this and we believe Mr. Dube was the only one who was involved," said Benson.

Cable's friends are now trying to come to terms with the loss of a friend who they say was so full of life.

"She was great, just a sweet, sweet girl," said Pattershall.

A friend who they thought was just missing, will now be dearly missed forever.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Police laid out their case Wednesday against a man accused of killing a 15-year-old girl whose body was found in a wooded area miles from her home, but the details remained hidden from public view after a judge sealed a crucial affidavit at the request of the suspect's lawyer.

Kyle Dube showed no emotion as he made an initial court appearance Wednesday, a day after he was charged with murder when a body believed to be Nichole Cable's was found in Old Town. A bail hearing will be held later.

Justice William Anderson ordered a state police affidavit impounded at the request of Dube's lawyer, Steve Smith, who said he was concerned about pretrial publicity. The affidavit will remain sealed until after a grand jury can consider the case, the judge said.

Several of Nichole's friends were in court wearing shirts in her favorite color, neon yellow, in her honor.

Jessica Brideau said Dube, who worked at an organization that cares for people with disabilities, "seemed really nice in the beginning."

"I just never thought he would do something like this," said Brideau, 20, of Old Town. "It sickens me."

Ashley Pattershall, a 16-year-old sophomore at Old Town High School, said she last spoke with Nichole on May 11, the night before she disappeared.

"She said, 'I'll see you at school,'" Pattershall said.

Dube, 20, already had been interviewed by authorities about Nichole's disappearance before he reported to jail Friday to begin serving a sentence for fleeing police on a motorcycle at more than 100 mph, Deputy Attorney General William Stokes said Wednesday. Stokes said investigators are confident he was the only person involved in Nichole's death.

Dube knew Nichole, according to her friends, but the nature of his relationship with her remained unclear. So, too, the role of social media. Nichole's family has said she vanished after going outside her house to see someone she'd met on Facebook.

Friends said Wednesday that someone set up a fictitious Facebook account under another man's name for the purpose of reaching out to area teenagers. They called the fake account unsettling.

"I'm going home to just delete a bunch of people off there," Brideau said. "I don't know who to trust. It's hard to trust people on those networks."

Assistant Attorney General Andrew Benson confirmed that social media was an aspect of the case but declined to elaborate.

Several of Nichole's family members attended the hearing Wednesday but left without speaking to reporters.

Tyler-Ann Harris, 16, who described herself as Nichole's best friend, said a day earlier that Dube and Nichole planned to see each other the weekend she vanished, before he was required to report to jail. Harris, who attended Old Town High School with Nichole, said she was surprised that Dube was charged in her death because she thought the two got along.

Dozens of law enforcement officers, using aircraft and dogs, and hundreds of civilian volunteers had spent days searching for the teen, who lived in Glenburn, just west of Old Town. The body believed to be hers was found Monday night by a warden who was searching the woods with a dog.

Although autopsy results are pending, law enforcement officials say they believe Nichole was killed the day she disappeared.

Prosecutors intend to have Dube held without bail pending trial.

Wow, Kyle Dube tried to STAGE Nichole's kidnapping so he could be a 'hero' and rescue her... but accidentally killed her after duct taping her mouth. (At least that's his story now.)

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The death of a 15-year-old Maine girl allegedly killed in a bizarre kidnapping plot involving a fake Facebook profile has prompted some of her classmates to scale back their social media use — or ditch it altogether.

Nichole Cable was allegedly killed by an acquaintance who used a fake profile to lure her from her home, then kidnap her in hopes of becoming a hero when he miraculously "found" her, according to state police.
Meanwhile, rumor and speculation ran rampant on social media following Cable's disappearance and the charging of a 20-year-old who knew her.

Ashley Pattershall said Thursday some of her classmates at Old Town High School have opted to deactivate their Facebook accounts.

"A couple of my friends have deleted their Facebook, and some of my friends don't have Facebook anymore," said the 16-year-old Pattershall, who was a close friend of Cable.

Kyle Dube, 20, of Orono, used a phony Facebook account created in the name of a student from another school to lure Cable outside her Glenburn home, where he abducted and killed her on May 12, authorities said. Her body was found more than a week later in a wooded area of Old Town, north of Bangor.

Dube told others he wore a disguise to kidnap Cable and intended to return later and find her safe and sound, police said. Instead, he discovered she was dead when he went to check on his duct-taped victim in the back of his father's pickup.

Authorities said Dube told his girlfriend and brother that he dumped Cable's body and covered it with sticks. He was formally charged Wednesday with murder and kidnapping.

Dube's attorney, Stephen Smith, did not immediately return a phone call left at his Bangor office on Thursday.
Cable's mother, Kristin Wiley, said Thursday that she wants to brainstorm with school principals about how to help teens be safe online. A police officer also talked to her about doing seminars on teen safety, she said.
"We need to get awareness out. Even the Bible says, 'Do not stand idle by.' I'm not going to stand idle. For my daughter, I will not stand idle. I will do whatever I can," she said from her Glenburn home.

According to state police, detectives interviewed a young man named Bryan Butterfield a day after Cable was reported missing. Butterfield told police that someone had created a phony Facebook account in his name, and police traced it to Dube's parents' house in Orono.

Cable was frequently contacted by the fake Butterfield and agreed to meet with him at the end of her road to get some marijuana the night she went missing, according to the state police affidavit.

Social media's role in Nichole's disappearance and death was a wakeup call for students, many of whom have become paranoid about online contacts, said Pattershall, Cable's friend.

Pattershall, who said the fake Butterfield account had contacted her and others, said she cleaned out her Facebook "friend" lists, making sure only confirmed friends and family members can communicate with her.

Wiley choked up as she talked about how her neighbors looked out for each other on the dirt road with a handful of houses in Glenburn.

She still has difficulty fathoming the state police account of Dube jumping out to grab her daughter at the end of the road.

"It's very important that we prevent this from happening again, not just in our community but any community, Wiley said.

Wiley said her daughter would want her to act. "She would not want anyone else to go through this."

15 yr old Nicole Cable, missing in Maine, parent's say she was last known to be w/ a man using a fictitious name on Facebook/Body found, LE believes it's Nicole/20 yr old Kyle Dube arrested for murder Empty Affidavit shows relationship between Nichole Cable and Kyle Dube

BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A newly released affidavit shows text messages between Nichole Cable and Kyle Dube indicating a previous relationship.

According to the affidavit, Nichole texted Kyle Dube about her meeting with the fake Bryan Butterfield. She seems unaware it was Dube behind the Facebook page. Cable texted Dube, telling him about the meeting. Dube told her to text him if she needed anything.

In the affidavit, Cable describes to her boyfriend that Dube allegedly attacked her the night before she disappeared. Cable wrote, " Kyle was trying to kiss and grope me I kept trying to push him off of me and he wouldn't stop."

Cable goes on to say, "He wouldn't stop and he ended up leaving a bite mark on me. So as soon as he got off me I had him bring me home." This incident allegedly happened the night before Cable's disappearance.

The affidavit also gives more details on what happened after Cable disappeared. According to the document, Dube threw Cable's clothes out of the window as he left the scene on May 12th and those items were found by a jogger on May 17th.

The sweatshirt identified by Nichole's best friend was "dirty on the back but relatively clean on the front. One sleeve had been pulled inside out and the sweatshirt had been cut and or ripped down the entire length of the front."

The affidavit states that officers believe a foot chase and possible struggle had occurred. Police noticed scratches on Dube's face when interviewing him on May 15th.

Officers also recovered a ski mask with an eye hole cut into on near the area where Cable was supposed to meet the fake Brian Butterfield. Dube's DNA was found on that mask.

BANGOR, Maine -- A man accused of using a phony Facebook profile to lure a 15-year-old girl to her death pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder and kidnapping charges.
Kyle Dube, 20, of Orono, entered the pleas during his arraignment at the Penobscot Judicial Center. Defense lawyer Stephen Smith requested a psychological evaluation for Dube, who was returned to jail after the brief court appearance.
Dube is accused of creating a fake Facebook profile and using it to set up a meeting with Nichole Cable, of Glenburn, before killing her and hiding her body on May 12.
Police say Dube told others that he'd intended to abduct Nichole and later come to her rescue. Her remains were found in nearby Old Town eight days after she disappeared.
Nichole was reported missing May 13 by her mother, who said she had left the night before to meet a friend at the end of their road but hadn't returned.
Dube told others that he bound Nichole and put her in the back of his father's pickup truck and that he later discovered she was dead, authorities said.
An autopsy determined she died from asphyxiation.
Dozens of law enforcement officers, using aircraft and dogs, and hundreds of civilian volunteers spent days searching for Nichole, whose body was found the night of May 20. About 300 people turned out for her funeral.

Orono man accused of murdering Glenburn teen indicted in gun theft

BANGOR, Maine — An Orono man facing murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the death of a 15-year-old girl from Glenburn was indicted on felony burglary and theft charges by the Penobscot County grand jury Wednesday after reportedly stealing a gun from a Kenduskeag home in January.

Kyle Dube, 20, was charged with the break-in last week while being held at the Penobscot County Jail awaiting his murder trial, according to Penobscot County Deputy Chief Troy Morton.

Dube was charged with murder in May in connection with the death of Nichole Cable, a teenage girl from Glenburn and Alton who last was seen alive on Mother’s Day. The two knew each other and were together the night before her death. Cable died of asphyxiation from compression of her neck, according the state medical examiner’s office.

Dube is accused of luring Cable out of her mother’s home by using someone else’s identity on Facebook, then killing her in what he claimed was an abduction gone wrong. Her body was found late May 20 in a wooded area in Old Town after Dube’s girlfriend and brother told police where Dube reportedly said he had left Cable covered with sticks.

He was indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury in May on kidnapping and murder charges. Dube pleaded not guilty on June 19 to both charges.

Also in June, members of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Maine State Police and Orono Police Department, searched Dube’s residence in Orono looking for property stolen during the Kenduskeag burglary.

“During the search, a sheriff’s office K-9 located one of the stolen firearms from the Kenduskeag burglary, along with other items that matched the description of property stolen from a separate residential burglary being investigated by the Maine State Police,” Morton said last week.

Dube faces Class B burglary and Class B theft by unauthorized taking charges in connection with the break-in.

A Superior Court justice in June granted a defense motion for Dube to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial. No date for that evaluation has been scheduled, a representative from the office of Dube’s defense attorney Stephen Smith said Wednesday.
