CASCADE, IDAHO — The man suspected of kidnapping 16-year-old Hannah Anderson was shot and killed by an FBI agent at a remote central Idaho campsite Saturday in a dramatic rescue that left the girl unharmed.

James Lee DiMaggio, 40, was killed after he was found by an FBI search team near Morehead Lake, about 75 miles north of Boise and just a few miles from where the two were spotted by a horseback rider Wednesday, officials said. The agent had been alerted to DiMaggio and the teen by searchers scouring the area in a plane.

Law enforcement officials offered few other details on the shooting, and would not divulge whether there was a firefight or even if DiMaggio was armed.

The killing ended a tense, multi-state manhunt that began Aug. 4, when firefighters found the bodies of Hannah's mother and younger brother at DiMaggio's burning home, east of San Diego. Ever since, police have been focused on Hannah, who authorities believed was abducted.

The case prompted officials in several Western states to send missing-children Amber Alert text messages to the public, which became transfixed by the massive manhunt.

"Hannah's safe, and that's the best outcome we were hoping for," Andrea Dearden, a spokeswoman for the Ada County Sheriff's Department, said during a Saturday news briefing.

"I am nervous, excited and saddened for my wife and son and worried what my daughter has been through," said Brett Anderson, Hannah's father, in a text sent to CNN. "It's now healing time. Keep us in your prayers."

After the shooting, Hannah was helicoptered to a hospital for evaluation. San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said at a news conference that she appeared to be in "pretty good shape" but gave no further details.

"Obviously, we would have liked Mr. DiMaggio to surrender and face justice in a court of law, but that's not going to be the case," Gore said.

Search crews poured into this mountainous wilderness region late in the week, following two major breaks in the case. First, a man riding horseback on Wednesday spotted hikers believed to be the missing pair.

The witness said the man and teenage girl had a tent and backpacks but looked out of place in the rugged terrain. The rider said nothing else seemed particularly unusual, so he continued on. "They exchanged pleasantries, and he left the area thinking they were hiking and camping," Dearden said.

Once the rider got home, he found out about the Amber Alert, prompting him to contact the Idaho State Police, she said.

Then, on Friday morning, DiMaggio's blue Nissan Versa, featured prominently in the alerts, was found at the edge of a remote trail head. It was "the last place you can go before you hit the wilderness and stop driving," Dearden said. The car's license plates had been removed, but authorities confirmed it was DiMaggio's car by a check of its vehicle identification number. For a time, authorities worried that DiMaggio might have planted explosives in the car, but none were found.

The hunt focused on a roughly 300-square-mile swath of rugged terrain. A haven for wolves, bears and mountain lions, the area is so remote that some searchers had to be flown in, while others engaged in the hunt on horseback. By Saturday afternoon, roughly 200 local and federal law enforcement officers were combing the federally protected hillsides. Eventually, with air crews circling the skies, a pair of U.S. marshals in a surveillance plane spotted DiMaggio and the teen at a campsite.

DiMaggio was said to be an experienced outdoorsman who had joined the family on camping trips. Authorities say he had recently purchased backpacking equipment — a sign, they said, that the abduction may have been planned.

"We believe ... that there was preparation involved," said San Diego County Sheriff's Capt. Duncan Fraser.

The broader search began last Sunday, when firefighters battled a fire at DiMaggio's home and eventually found the bodies of Hannah's mother, Christina, 44, and brother, Ethan, 8. Christina Anderson died of blunt force trauma and may have been hit with a crowbar, a source close to the investigation told The Times.

Once the bodies were found and officials realized that Hannah was missing, state officials began seeking the public's help — using for the first time in California an Amber Alert system sent through cellphones. The search quickly broadened beyond U.S. borders to Mexico and Canada, as well as to Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Idaho.

Meanwhile, Hannah's father, Brett Anderson, had pleaded with DiMaggio in a televised message this week to let his daughter go. He also advised Hannah to run from DiMaggio if she had the chance. Anderson and his wife had separated, and he has been living in Tennessee.

A telecommunications technician at the Scripps Research Institute, DiMaggio has been described as a close friend of the Anderson family — so close that the children called him "Uncle Jim." DiMaggio and Brett Anderson knew each other from their work, according to press reports.

The nature of DiMaggio's relationship with Hannah remains unclear, authorities say. It was not known whether Hannah was abducted or went with DiMaggio willingly.

At least one of Hannah's friends has said that DiMaggio had told the teen he had a crush on her. The friend said Hannah was disturbed by the revelation and did not want to be alone with him.

OK, this is strange. They've interviewed the horseback riders who ran into Hannah and Dimaggio out there. Hannah was barefoot and in pajama pants. When one of the riders told her she shouldn't put her bare feet in the lake with the fish (maybe because some might bite??) Hannah said as they rode away, "We're all in trouble now." WTH?

Also, they had a gray cat with them out there in the wilderness. And cat food. It was Hannah's cat, so they must have gone back to her house after Dimaggio had killed her mom and brother, to get her cat. I find that off somehow. I wonder what the plan really was?

I'm not sure. In one article the woman rider said Hannah looked scared. But they assumed she was scared of the horses. She may have wanted to drop them a hint, but was terrified?

I wonder if he brought the cat to pacify her, or control her somehow? I just can't imagine taking a cat camping and backpacking in wilderness. Mine would be up a tree the first chance it got.

It was a daring rescue.
Rescuing Anderson was a multistate effort that involved hundreds of law enforcement officials. Agents hiked about 300 square miles of terrain, combing through the wilderness to find the teenager. The mountainous elevations and nearby wildfires made the search difficult, but by Saturday afternoon, the authorities had found their campsite. Helicopters were brought in to drop rescuers off, but they couldn’t get close to the site because of the terrain. Officials had to hike more than two hours to get to Anderson. Then they waited and watched. As soon as Anderson was a safe distance from DiMaggio, they moved in. Anderson was then whisked away in a helicopter. An FBI agent fatally shot DiMaggio during the confrontation.

The California teen who was rescued in an Idaho wilderness by FBI agents who fatally shot her abductor was not aware until she was freed that her mother and brother were dead, according to San Diego County Sheriff William Gore.


Hannah Anderson, 16, learned the tragic news from her rescuers, Gore told KSWB-TV reporter Raoul Martinez with the Fox News affiliate in San Diego.

"The kidnapper, the murderer is dead. Our focus now is getting Hannah all the resources, the help she needs to get through this extremely traumatic ordeal that she's been through, " Gore told the TV station. "Plus, let's not lose sight of the fact that she's lost her mother and her brother, which she was not aware of until she was recovered up in Idaho. "

The saga, which kicked off AMBER Alerts in at least four states, began Aug. 4 when the San Diego Sheriff's Department said James DiMaggio, a 40-year-old family friend, had kidnapped Hannah after killing her mother, Christina Anderson, and her 8-year-old brother, Ethan. Their bodies were found in DiMaggio's burning home near the Mexican border.

Authorities said DiMaggio, of rural Boulevard, Calif., was "infatuated" with Hannah. Her father said his kids had called him "Uncle Jim" and that he had promised to watch over the family.

Hannah was reunited with her father on Sunday after FBI agents, tipped by four campers on horseback, rescued her on Saturday in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area and killed DiMaggio.

Gore told KSWB-TV that Hannah was "under extreme duress" and was "taken out of the county, out of the state, clearly against her will."
The sheriff, filling in some of the details of the operation, said that DiMaggio had had a shoulder weapon and fired at least one time as the FBI team approached the pair's isolated campsite.


"It's now healing time," Brett Anderson, Hannah's father, said in a text message to CNN shortly after Hannah was freed.
Her maternal grandmother, Sara Britt, added that joy over the teen's recovery will now give way to mourning the teen's mother and younger brother.


"We have to focus on burying my daughter and my grandson who was murdered, and that's something we'll take a long time to deal with. But the positive note is Hannah coming home," Britt said.

Gore said earlier that Hannah "appears to be in good shape.''

The mountainous area where the rescue took place is extremely steep, and the closest point where the helicopters could drop a ground team was more than a two-hour hike away. The agents crept close to the camp, waited until DiMaggio and Hannah separated, and then moved in.
"Obviously we would've liked Mr. DiMaggio to surrender and face justice in the court of law, but that's not going to be the case," Gore said.
DiMaggio's Nissan Versa, covered with brush and missing its California license plates, was found Friday morning near a trailhead in the wilderness area. Authorities had suspected the car may have been booby-trapped, but no explosives were found. DiMaggio was considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.


Mark John, 71, a former Gem County, Idaho, sheriff who was riding horses with his wife and another couple last week, said he talked twice with the pair, who had been the object of a massive FBI manhunt across the West.


"Red flags kind of went up,'' John told reporters in Sweet, Idaho. "He might have been an outdoorsman in California, but he wasn't an outdoorsman in Idaho. ... He didn't fit.''

John said they had entirely new gear, were wearing tennis shoes and appeared to be going in the wrong direction from where they told him they were headed. The girl appeared fine but scared, he and others in his group said, and was wearing inappropriate clothing -- either pajama pants or sweat pants and a sweat shirt, without rain gear.

"These people did not want to talk to us whatsoever,'' John said.

Mike Young, who was part of the foursome on horseback, said most people on the trail are friendly, but that these two clearly did not want to talk.
"She was trying to turn her face away. ... Then, when we went up the trail a little ways, I turned around and told these guys that there was something wrong there. It just wasn't right," he told reporters, according to KTVB-TV.
When the riders passed the pair again as they came back down the trail later, they once again tried to start a conversation, joking with Hannah about dipping her feet in the water.
That, said John, prompted a cryptic message from Hannah. According to Mark, "She said, 'Looks like we're all in trouble now.' Or, 'We're in real trouble now.' And then, we rode on out."
Christa John said the pair followed them on foot as they headed down to a lake. "She was just sitting there and I just felt I should go over and kind of see if she needed help and make contact with her," Christa John said. "I'm glad I didn't because that could have turned out terribly wrong for the four of us."

Sara Britt, Hannah's grandmother, said the family was ecstatic to hear she was safe and that DiMaggio was no longer a threat.
"No one wants to go through years of jury trial," Britt said. "I wouldn't want to see anyone dead, but it happened. We're excited to have our granddaughter home."

Speaking in an interview with CBS affiliate KFMB, a woman who went to high school with suspected kidnapper James Lee DiMaggio said DiMaggio's father professed his love to her when she was a teen and said he wanted to "take her away" from her family. When she refused, the unidentified woman said, the elder DiMaggio held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her, her boyfriend and her brother.

The woman detailed the elder DiMaggio's violent past and the apparent similarities between the 1988 incident, when she was 16, and the alleged abduction of California 16-year-old Hannah Anderson. Ironically, Aug. 10, the same day James DiMaggio was shot and killed in the Idaho wilderness during Anderson's rescue, marks the anniversary of the elder DiMaggio's suicide more than a decade ago, reports the station.

The latest case began when the charred bodies of Hannah Anderson's mother, Christina Anderson, 44, and the teen's 8-year-old brother, Ethan Anderson, were found in DiMaggio's burning house outside San Diego, near the Mexico border.

DiMaggio was close to the family. Christina Anderson's husband, Brett Anderson, has described him as a best friend and said the children thought of him as an uncle. Authorities said they suspected DiMaggio had planned to abduct Hannah Anderson.

Authorities have said DiMaggio had an "unusual infatuation" with Hannah, although the father said he never saw any strange behavior.

DiMaggio told Hannah Anderson a couple months ago he had a crush on her and would date her if they were the same age, said Marissa Chavez, 15, a friend who witnessed the remarks when DiMaggio was driving them home from a gymnastics competition. Chavez said Hannah was "a little creeped out by it."

Following a massive search, authorities were tipped off by horseback riders in the Idaho wilderness that the two were spotted camping there. Saturday, authorities located the pair, and James DiMaggio was shot and killed during Anderson's rescue.

Learning about Hannah Anderson's case brought back chilling memories, the woman told the station. "It was almost a déja vu... It was weird," the woman said.

"When I saw the name, I seriously, my heart stopped for a second," she said.

In 1988, the woman said the elder DiMaggio, James Everet DiMaggio, confessed his love to her. He had been dating her mother and the two had recently split up, reports the station.

"He stuck around for me, he wanted to take me away from my mom and give me a good life, a better life," the woman said. "He could take care of me."

In the Union Tribune archives, an article from December 1989 details the alleged attack, reports the station. The 35-year-old James Everet DiMaggio was arrested after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home wearing a mask and carrying a sawed-off shotgun. His ex-girlfriend was not home, reports the station, but a district attorney told the paper he held the woman's teenage daughter and boyfriend at gunpoint.

"I asked him to please not kill us, and he said, 'Don't worry, it will be over quick,'" the woman told KFMB. "I just remember pleading with him."

Unlike Hannah Anderson, the woman told the station that she was able to escape by asking to use the bathroom, and the elder DiMaggio fled.

The younger DiMaggio, whom she knew as "Jimmy," told her at school following the incident that her father would be waiting for her. She left the school that day and changed her name, reports the station.

Another Union Tribune article from 1989 says the elder DiMaggio was also accused of beating another woman and he baseball bat because he owed them, money, reports the station.

The elder DiMaggio reportedly committed suicide 15 years ago on Aug. 10 in a "drug-induced" suicide, reports U-T San Diego.

"I just had to deal with the mental part, I didn't lose anyone," the woman said, speaking of Hannah Anderson. "I can't even imagine that part of it," the unidentified woman told KFMB. "I just want to hug her and let her know she's a strong woman, she didn't do anything wrong. None of this is her fault."

My sister lives in that area in Idaho and has been camping and fishing all over the place. I have been twice and let me tell you, outside the dry bowl of Boise, you could get lost very easily, you could succumb to the elements, you could starve to death, you could be attacked by any number of dangerous animals AND reptiles (rattlesnakes), and if you get a fracture of any kind and you are deep in that area you ain't coming out.

Its beautiful there tho and so freaking "western" looking its like you expect Clint Eastwood or John Wayne to saunter by on a horse. So cool!

(CBS News) SAN DIEGO -- California teenager Hannah Anderson is spending her first night back in her home since she was kidnapped more than a week ago, a horrible ordeal that began with the death of her mother and her younger brother.

Brett Anderson brought his 16-year-old daughter home to San Diego Monday. In a brief statement at the San Diego Sheriff's Department, he thanked everyone for their support and asked for privacy.

"My family and I are eternally grateful," Brett Anderson said, adding his family needs to grieve and heal now that his daughter has been found.

"The healing process will be slow," Anderson said. "She has been through a tremendous, horrific ordeal. I'm very proud of her, and I love her very much."

On Wednesday, nearly 1,000 miles from San Diego in a remote area of Idaho, a group of four horseback riders saw the pair. They say Anderson looked scared and was wearing pajama bottoms.

"They were just like a square peg going into a round hole," said Mark John, one of the riders. "They didn't fit. He might have been an outdoorsman in California, but he was not an outdoorsman in Idaho."

They later recognized Anderson in a televised Amber Alert and called police.

They told the FBI that DiMaggio had a grey cat with him. Agents searching for them spotted the cat from the air, and that led them to DiMaggio. A tactical hostage rescue team was dropped into the woods and hiked two hours to DiMaggio's campsite to rescue Anderson. A federal official says DiMaggio had at least two guns and fired at the agents, who then shot and killed him.

San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore said Hannah Anderson was definitely taken against her will.

"She was a victim in this case," he said. "She was not a willing participant, and she was under extreme duress from the time she left Boulevard to the time she was recovered at Lake Morehead, Idaho."

A friend of Hannah Anderson says DiMaggio had confessed to her that he had a "crush" on her and that she was uncomfortable being around him. Anderson was not aware that her mom and brother had been killed until after she was rescued.

The story of 16-year-old Hannah Anderson, a kidnapped California teen who was rescued Saturday, gripped the nation. Though her family is rejoicing in her return, they are also mourning the loss of Christina Anderson, Hannah's mother, and Ethan Anderson, Hannah's brother.

Family members are now fielding donations from concerned parties all over the country, and they're beating the drum on social media for Hannah's recovery using the hashtag #HannahStrong.

A fund at WePay.com is promising to benefit Hannah's -- and her family's -- recovery. "The remaining family may be reunited, but this dark chapter for the Andersons is not over" the page reads. "Please send a donation today to help the Andersons rebuild after their tragic loss and psychologically damaging experience.

Though, at the time of this writing, it is unclear who started the fund, Hannah's father Brett Anderson posted a link to the page on Facebook.

Anderson also mentioned in an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo that there is another fund set up for those who wish to assist the family.

"I don't have a whole lot of information, but it's called the Anderson Family Memorial Fund and it's set up through Wells Fargo out of the Sparks, Nevada, Wells Fargo," he said. "And it was done very quickly by a friend of mine and some amazing people... I can't thank them enough."

A representative from Wells Fargo confirmed to CNN that the fund exists and was set up specifically to help the Anderson family. If anyone is interested in contributing to the fund, they can visit any Wells Fargo branch and request a donation for "The Anderson Family Memorial Fund."

Hannah's kidnapping triggered a nationwide Amber Alert and a multi-state manhunt last week. Authorities got a lead on the teen's alleged captor, James DiMaggio, from a horseback rider who spotted two people matching the descriptions of DiMaggio and Hannah in the Idaho wilderness. Hannah was rescued safely and does not show signs of significant physical injury.

DiMaggio was shot by an FBI agent Saturday near Morehead Lake, Idaho. Hannah had been missing since Aug. 3, when she disappeared after cheerleading practice in San Diego County, California. The day after Hannah disappeared, the bodies of her mother and brother were discovered in the rubble of a fire in DiMaggio's home. Authorities say Hannah was not immediately aware of her mother and brother's fate.

An FBI tactical team shot and killed an alleged kidnapper and rescued missing 16-year-old Hannah Anderson from the Idaho wilderness. She was airlifted by a helicopter to a hospital as investigative crews moved in.

In the middle of it all, apparently, was a gray house cat.

It was one of the oddest details to emerge in the recovery of Hannah, who was kidnapped in San Diego County and taken across several states before ending up in a remote area of the Idaho wilderness six days later.

A chance encounter with four horseback riders on a wilderness trail ultimately led authorities to them and to the killing of James Lee DiMaggio.

Numerous details emerged from the horseback riders — including clues that led authorities to DiMaggio's whereabouts — but it was the story of a gray cat that captured the attention of some readers.

In a news conference the day after an FBI agent shot and killed DiMaggio, horseback riders described spotting DiMaggio and Hannah.

Retired Sheriff Mark John, 71, said Hannah was soaking her feet in Morehead Lake.

DiMaggio, he said, "was off on the side of the trail, petting a gray cat."

"What?" a reporter asked.

"Petting a gray cat," John replied.

He went on to recall telling DiMaggio that having the domestic cat could attract trouble in the rugged wilderness.

"Them cats are only good for the wolf — to draw a wolf in or to bring in a mountain lion or something," John said.

DiMaggio didn't respond, he added.

"He just kind of grinned — didn't say much more," John recalled. "Had a little smirk on his face."

The juxtaposition of a gray house cat against the backdrop of an unforgiving wilderness overrun by a multi-agency search and a girl who authorities said was taken against her will across multiple state lines piqued the interest of more than just reporters.

Emails started flowing into the mailboxes of Times reporters covering the story, many of them concerned about the cat’s fate.

“What happened to the kitty? I hope Miss Anderson was able to take it home…” one read.

Others took to social media, tweeting at the media to follow up on what they considered a significant gap in the storyline.

"What was #HannahAnderson kidnapper thinking? Drive 1500 miles during active Amber Alert with hostage and cat?" wrote @PollyDad.

@LadyProChoice pleaded with CNN to ask about it: "@piersmorgan ask about the cat!"

Their questions were answered Monday when officials revealed that the cat had not been left behind as wolf bait in the Idaho wilderness north of Cascade.

As it turns out, when federal agents spotted DiMaggio’s campsite from the air Saturday, they also saw the cat, FBI Special Agent Jason Pack told the San Diego U-T.

The day after the confrontation, in which DiMaggio fired off at least one round before being shot and killed by an FBI agent, the cat was found by an FBI SWAT team securing the crime scene, the U-T reported.

The cat was returned to Hannah later that day. Safe and sound.

The 16-year-old California girl kidnapped by a close family friend suspected of killing her mother and 8-year-old brother says he threatened to kill her if she tried to escape and got what he deserved when he died in a shootout with authorities in the Idaho wilderness.

Hannah Anderson went online barely 48 hours after her rescue Saturday and started fielding hundreds of questions through a social media site. Many were typical teenage fare — she likes singer Justin Bieber and her favorite color is pink — but she also answered queries about how she was kidnapped, how she survived captivity and how she is dealing with the deaths of her mother and brother.

The postings started Monday night, hours after her father publicly requested that the family be allowed to grieve and heal in private. Brett Anderson didn't respond to a text message seeking comment about his daughter's postings, which continued into Tuesday evening. The account was disabled Wednesday morning.

James Lee DiMaggio, 40, was shot at least five times in the head and chest, said Valley County Coroner Nathan Hess, who completed an autopsy Monday in Boise. He was unable to determine a precise number of gunshot wounds.

DiMaggio's body was cremated Tuesday near Los Angeles, said family spokesman Andrew Spanswick.

Police have said little about their investigation. Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, said authorities are aware of the online comments but could not confirm the account is Hannah's.

The postings appeared on the ask.fm social-networking site account for "Hannahbanana722" of Lakeside, the San Diego County community where the teen lived with her mother and brother. At one point during the lengthy series of posts, a questioner asked Hannah to post a photo and she complied. The image shows her with a wide smile.

Dawn MacNabb, whose son, Alan, is one of Hannah's closest friends, confirmed the postings were by the teen. Alan spoke on the phone with Hannah on Tuesday and urged her to delete some of the postings, MacNabb said.

"He said she was going to, but I don't know if she will," she said.

Anderson declined interview requests from news organizations that posted to her account.

She was kidnapped Aug. 4 by DiMaggio, her father's best friend who was like an uncle to her and her brother, Ethan. DiMaggio had invited the children and their mother, Christina Anderson, 44, to his house in Boulevard, a rural town 65 miles east of San Diego.

"He told us he was losing his house because of money issues so we went up there one last time to support him, and to have fun riding go karts up there but he tricked us," Anderson wrote.

Anderson said DiMaggio tied up her mother and brother in his garage. Their bodies were found after a fire destroyed the home. She said she didn't know they had died until an FBI agent told her at the hospital after rescue Saturday.

"I wish I could go back in time and risk my life to try and save theirs. I will never forgive myself for not trying harder to save them," she wrote.

Anderson said she "basically" stayed awake for six straight days and DiMaggio ignored her requests for food. She couldn't try to escape because DiMaggio had a gun and "threatened to kill me and anyone who tried to help." When they crossed paths with the horseback riders one man said that Hannah muttered the words "Were all in trouble now." Although she said during those text message exchanges she didn't remember saying that.

Anderson said she was too frightened to ask for help when four horseback riders encountered the pair in the remote wilderness on Wednesday. The riders didn't report the sightings to police until the next day, after returning home and learning about the massive search spanning much of the western United States and parts of Canada and Mexico.

"I had to act calm I didn't want them to get hurt. I was scared that he would kill them," she wrote.

The girl said DiMaggio threatened to kill her if she didn't help hide his blue Nissan Versa with tree branches. Authorities discovered the car Friday, leading to her rescue the following day.

Asked if she would have preferred DiMaggio got a lifetime prison sentence instead of being killed by FBI agents, she said, "He deserved what he got."

Anderson acknowledged being uncomfortable around DiMaggio even before the ordeal, saying he once told her that he was drawn to her.

"He said it was more like a family crush like he had feelings as in he wanted nothing bad to happen to me," she wrote.

She said she didn't tell her parents because DiMaggio was his father's best friend "and I didn't want to ruin anything between them."

On Monday, Anderson had her nails done - pink for her mother and blue for her brother. She said she anticipates returning to El Capitan High School in the east San Diego suburb of Lakeside for her junior year.

She said she was still in shock. When one commenter said her responses appeared to lack emotion, she wrote, "I'm trying to stay strong. You don't know I could be crying answering these questions at the moment."

Therapists say Anderson faces a long recovery, but support from family and friends can help her lead a happy, productive life. Counselors may focus on acknowledging her trauma but not letting it control decisions.

Her father has told at least two people that he planned to move with Hannah to Tennessee, where he lives.

Moving would be a father's "very normal reaction," said Jessica Donohue-Dioh, a social work instructor at Xavier University in Cincinnati. She cautioned, however, that it shouldn't be an attempt to bury the past.

I'm glad they finally shut her "ask" account down. This creepy site picked up a lot of her posts when she was posting all night long. I'm sure she had no clue how bad these comments looked to outsiders who weren't part of her teen group. Sometimes kids will say silly stuff to each other that others reading it don't quite understand.

She mentioned on her ask account that she has no plans to move away with her dad, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I think she's almost too young to be making these kinds of decisions on her own. Maybe she can live with the grandparents for a while so she can still attend her same school.

Hopefully they'll get good counseling advice. Pulling her away from all her friends right now might really mess her up even more.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A judge unsealed warrants Wednesday revealing new dramatic details about the kidnapping of Hannah Anderson and the murder of her mother and brother.

Seven search warrants served during the investigation into the abduction of a Lakeside teenager reveal that the suspect, James Dimaggio, tortured the girl's mother and 8-year-old brother before he killed them inside his Boulevard home August 4. Dimaggio is accused of setting fire to the home and then kidnapping Hannah Anderson, 16.

Authorities located DiMaggio and Hannah Anderson last Saturday near Morehead Lake, about 80 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho. He was fatally shot and the girl, who was unharmed, was told of the deaths of her mother and brother.

The warrants, unsealed by a judge at the request of News 8, indicate that when firefighters arrived at the property just after 8 p.m., they first discovered Christina Anderson's body after noticing a pair of human feet sticking out underneath a green tarp in the garage. She was face-down and a crowbar was by her head.

A small dog was also dead in the garage. The dog -- named Calli and believed to be Hannah's -- was under a sleeping bag and had been shot.

Investigators later found the remains of the boy, Ethan Anderson.

The search warrants say that same day DiMaggio exchanged several phone calls with his sister Lora Robinson. Robinson has not been charged with a crime, but at the time, detectives believed she was possibly aiding DiMaggio. Robinson's voicemail is full and could not be reached for comment.

Also that same day, investigators say Hannah was picked up at 4 p.m. from cheerleading practice, but at the time they weren't sure who gave her a ride. Her phone was soon turned off, but not before she and DiMaggio called each other 13 times. That was four hours before the fire at Dimaggio's was called in.

Authorities learned through interviews with Hannah Anderson's friend that DiMaggio -- who the family called "Uncle Jim" -- took her on multiple day trips, the most recent one to Malibu and Hollywood.

A TALE OF TWO THREE CATS: OLIVER, PUSS PUSS, and Princess

Hannah Anderson posted a picture with her pet cat Puss Puss on AskFM last night. Since then there has been speculation it was the same cat she was spotted petting in the Idaho wilderness.
But in her chats with users of the social media site, she reveals it was not her pet cat and talks about a kitten called Oliver who she says she wants to give to a good home.
'My cat's name is Puss Puss, the kitten I saved is Oliver. I really want him to go to a good home, he's been through a lot just like me.'

When asked why she wasn't going to keep Oliver, she said: 'I don't want the memories, but he's a trooper.'
One of the horsemen who encountered Hannah and tipped off police - former Gem County Sheriff Mark John - said in a press conference that she was petting a grey cat when they met her.
He said they thought it was strange to see a house cat in the rugged Idaho backwoods.
'The only reason you bring a cat out there is to attract a mountain lion or a bear,' John said.

The horrific saga began August 4 when police were called to a fire at DiMaggio’s log-style cabin that he shared with a number of cats, including a gray cat named Princess.

Hours later, around 5 p.m., the group of horseback riders encountered the unprepared hikers again. This time, Hannah was soaking her feet in water and DiMaggio was petting his cat, Princess.
He even saved Princess, the gray cat found with him in the wilderness, after she was run over outside his house last year. “He took her in and spent the last of his paycheck saving that cat,”

So, it says in the search warrant they were searching the Anderson residence. I'm confused then why they were saying on HLN and CNN that Hannah's retainer was found in Dimaggio's room or home? Unless he had his own room at their house?

I had a theory about the house cat in the wilderness. In one of the many articles, it said the horseback riders told him a cat was dangerous to have out in the wilderness because it would attract wolves and bears and Dimaggio just smirked. Which made me wonder if maybe he really did just use Hannah to help him make his getaway and carry his backpacks, and his plan was to travel up the river into Canada on his own and leave her with the cat in the tent so that the wildlife would devour her??

He may have originally wanted to fulfill a fantasy of living in the wild with her, and then decided after spending time with her whining about heavy backpacks that he was just going to dump her? It's just all so bizarre.

I am happy she was rescued, but I have a bad feeling that history will show she was a little complicit in the "mutual attraction". Her retainer found in his bedroom? That's a tell-tale sign. I used to only take my retainer out to brush it, to eat, to make out and sometimes I didn't sleep with it so it was on my bedside table. Why was hers there?
