Lawyer: George Zimmerman accused of throwing wine bottle at girlfriend
SANFORD, Fla. — Florida authorities said George Zimmerman has been arrested on an aggravated assault charge.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said the 31-year-old Zimmerman was arrested in Lake Mary about 10 p.m. Friday and was taken to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
During a court appearance Saturday morning, Zimmerman's bond was set at $5,000 and he was ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victim, a woman who was not identified.
Judge John Galluzzo did not give details of the incident, but said it happened at Zimmerman's home.
Zimmerman was also told by the judge to stay out of Volusia County, where the alleged victim lives.
The judge ordered Zimmerman to pack up any personal belongings the woman may have left at Zimmerman's home and give them to his lawyer.
Zimmerman, who wore blue scrubs and handcuffs, appeared calm during the brief hearing. At one point, he laughed and joked with an officer as he signed paperwork.
Although the incident didn't involve a firearm, the judge ordered Zimmerman to surrender any weapons out of an abundance of caution.
Zimmerman is scheduled to appear back in court on Feb. 17.
West spoke to the media after Zimmerman's first appearance and said Zimmerman allegedly threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend earlier this week.
No further details about the alleged incident or why Zimmerman wasn't arrested earlier, were released.
Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of a second-degree murder charge for shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has had several brushes with the law:
— He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after his then-girlfriend said he pointed a gun at her face during an argument, smashed her coffee table and pushed her out of the house they shared. Samantha Scheibe decided not to cooperate with detectives and prosecutors didn't pursue the case.
— Zimmerman was accused by his estranged wife of smashing an iPad during an argument at the home they had shared. Shellie Zimmerman initially told a dispatcher her husband had a gun, though she later said he was unarmed. No charges were ever filed because of a lack of evidence. The dispute occurred days after Shellie Zimmerman filed divorce papers.
— Zimmerman has also been pulled over three times for traffic violations since his acquittal.

Arrest report details domestic violence incident between George Zimmerman, girlfriend
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake Mary police arrested George Zimmerman on a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend, according to a report.
The police report details the domestic dispute that Zimmerman was allegedly involved in on January 5.
The documents said that officers were so close to the home where Zimmerman allegedly threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend, that officers heard the glass shatter and saw a woman getting into her car.
According to the report, officers pulled the woman over because she didn't have her headlights on. The woman explained what had happened, but was reluctant to cooperate, police said.
Officers said she described Zimmerman as a psychopath, saying she knew better than to get involved with him.
After officers spoke with the alleged victim, the report said officers knew Zimmerman was home and spent two hours knocking on the door trying to get him to come outside.
Officers said Zimmerman finally agreed to speak with them, but only while he had his lawyer on the phone.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office said the 31-year-old was arrested around 10 p.m. Friday, and was taken to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.
Neighbors said the incident wasn't a big ordeal and knew little about what happened that night.
"I saw the police car pull up, that's all," neighbor Werner Dominic said.
During a court appearance Saturday morning, Zimmerman's bond was set at $5,000, and he was ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victim, a Volusia County woman who was not identified. The judge ordered Zimmerman to pack up any personal belongings the woman may have left at Zimmerman's home and give them to his lawyer, Don West.
Zimmerman bonded out of jail around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and is scheduled to appear back in court on February 17.
It’s Zimmerman’s third run-in with the law since his acquittal in 2013.
"There is an old saying that history will repeat itself. And there is indication, since the conclusion of the Trayvon Martin trial, that Mr. Zimmerman has temper problems," WFTV legal analyst Belvin Perry said.
West told Channel 9 he plans to represent Zimmerman in his latest criminal case.
“I’m not a psychologist. I don’t know how it’s manifesting itself, but I’m concerned because we’re here again,” West said.
Police were called in 2013 when Zimmerman had a dispute with his wife, and then with his girlfriend later that year.
"I don't like to speculate emotional things either. It's clear he hasn't been very lucky with the ladies the last few months,” West said. GMAB!!
Zimmerman was acquitted in July 2013 of a second-degree murder charge for shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman's brushes with the law include:
— He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief after his then-girlfriend said he pointed a gun at her face during an argument, smashed her coffee table and pushed her out of the house they shared. Samantha Scheibe decided not to cooperate with detectives and prosecutors didn't pursue the case.
— Zimmerman's estranged wife accused him of smashing an iPad during an argument at the home they had shared. Shellie Zimmerman initially told a dispatcher her husband had a gun, though she later said he was unarmed. No charges were ever filed because of a lack of evidence. SANFORD, Fla. -
Details of a domestic violence incident that landed George Zimmerman in jail were revealed Monday by investigators.
Lake Mary police released an arrest report from Friday night when George Zimmerman was taken into custody. Police body camera video, however, will not be released immediately, police said.
Zimmerman was booked into the jail around 10 p.m. Friday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a jail representative.
According to the police report released on Monday, two Lake Mary police officers reported hearing glass break outside Zimmerman's home on Valley Wood Way.
They said they saw a woman get in her car and drive away from the home without her headlights on, which caused them to pull her over.
The woman told officers she had been dating Zimmerman for about two to three months, and claimed that Zimmerman threw a wine bottle at her and threw her cellphone, shattering it, as a result of an argument they were having.
Officers indicated the woman was very emotional. According to the report, the woman called Zimmerman a "psychopath" and said she never should have gotten involved with him.
Police said minutes after the incident, they found a broken wine bottle in the driveway, but Zimmerman was no longer there.
Zimmerman was unable to be found for five days, police said.
When he was finally located on Friday, he denied the fight, throwing the bottle or damaging the woman's phone. He was arrested anyway.
Lake Mary police had previously said body and dash cam video would be available on Monday, but changed their mind, citing it as part of the evidence in the case.
Local 6 has learned there are 11 DVDs of body and dash cam video from both the night of the incident on January 5 and the night of Zimmerman's arrest on January 9.
Zimmerman appeared in court Saturday, with the judge setting his bond at $5,000. During his first appearance a judge ordered Zimmerman to have no contact with the victim or enter Volusia County.
The judge also ordered Zimmerman to turn over any firearms he has in his possession by Tuesday. WHY wait till Tuesday????
Zimmerman said nothing to reporters as he bonded out of jail Saturday afternoon. His arraignment is set for Feb. 17.
Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

State Attorney Phil Archer says George Zimmerman won't be prosecuted
George Zimmerman won't be prosecuted for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend, the State Attorney's Office said today.
Zimmerman, 31, was arrested Jan. 9, accused by Lake Mary police of aggravated-assault.
But this morning the State Attorney's Office reported that the woman recanted her story and refused to cooperate. As a consequence, it is dropping the case.
This is the second time in just over a year that Zimmerman has been arrested, accused of becoming violent when a girlfriend breaks up with him. In both cases, the woman changed her account, stopped cooperating, and prosecutors closed the case without filing charges.
The first incident was Nov. 18, 2013, when he was accused of pointing a shotgun at one girlfriend then locking her out of the house. The second was this incident on Jan. 5, when a woman accused him of throwing a wine bottle at her and breaking her phone.
Each incident involved a different woman.
In between those arrested, Zimmerman was accused of pointing a gun at a driver during a road rage incident. That case also resulted in no charge.
The woman in the most recent case told Lake Mary police the night of the incident that she did not want to prosecute, but police arrested him anyway, saying they feared there would be more violence between the two, according to an arrest report.
But the woman continued to be uncooperative, according to today's prepared statement from the State Attorney's Office. She refused to appear when prosecutors asked her to come in for an interview, according to the statement.
When they issued a subpoena, she did appear with her attorney and either told them or handed them a statement saying that Zimmerman had not thrown a bottle at her and that she never feared him, the statement said. BS.. She IMHO fears him but is recanting so he won't stalk her..MOO.
Lake Mary police got involved about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 5 when an officer heard breaking glass and saw the woman drive away from Zimmerman's house without turning on her headlights.
When he pulled her over, she told them that Zimmerman had just thrown a wine bottle at her and broken her phone, according to police department paperwork.
The fight happened while she was breaking up with Zimmerman, according to the report.
Zimmerman is the former Sanford Neighborhood Watch volunteer who was acquitted of second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed, black 17-year-old, on Feb. 26, 2012.
