I will never understand Neveah's mother. And, there is absolutely nothing new on this case. I wonder if there ever will be. So sad!!!

Memories of Nevaeh Buchanan weigh heavily in the heart and mind of the slain girl's grandmother.
Sherry Buchanan said she hurts every day, but the holidays are among the hardest. She also is dreading Feb. 3, when her granddaughter would have turned 6 years old.
"I think about Nevaeh constantly. I just wish that she was here now," she said just days before Christmas. "I raised her from the first day she was born. I did everything with her."

Mrs. Buchanan recalled the morning after unwrapping gifts two years ago when Nevaeh crawled into her lap and hugged her tightly.
"She told me, 'Grandma, I love you," Mrs. Buchanan said.
It was just more than seven months ago that Nevaeh went missing from the parking lot of Charlotte Arms Apartments, where she lived with her grandmother and her mother, Jennifer Buchanan.
Nevaeh, who was last seen riding a scooter in the complex on May 24, was found 10 days later in a shallow grave, encased in concrete, along the banks of the River Raisin.

The killing of Nevaeh was the area's most high-profile crime in 2009.

Authorities said they cannot recall a more sensational or heinous slaying in the history of Monroe County or Monroe, a city settled by French-Canadians in the late 1700s before Michigan became a state.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has released no new details since the autopsy showed the little girl was smothered and may have been buried alive.
To date, no witnesses have come forward, and the case remains unsolved.
Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said a special task force of local, state, and federal law enforcement continues to investigate and the crime remains a high priority.

The case sparked enormous interest, dominated headlines in newspapers and on the Internet, and gained nationwide media exposure before two fishermen found her body in the shallow grave along the riverbank in Raisinville Township.
Jennifer Buchanan, and Nevaeh's father, Shane Hinojosa of West Toledo, appeared on CNN's Nancy Grace and other national TV programs.

Ms. Thompson said she wants to keep Nevaeh's name alive in the community and keep the case in the public eye.
"I just want to make memories in her name and make her name stand out in a better light. I am trying to get justice served. She deserves it," she said.
Since Nevaeh's disappearance, the sheriff's office has fielded more than 13,000 tips, mostly from a phone line set up for the investigation.

Shortly after Nevaeh went missing, investigators focused on a pair of convicted sex offenders who were acquaintances of the mother, Jennifer Buchanan.
Investigators labeled George Kennedy and Roy Smith as "persons of interest" in the case. The men were never charged. They were sent back to prison to finish their original sentences after they were found guilty of violating parole by having contact with Nevaeh's family.
The investigation also has focused on the apartment complex where Nevaeh spent the last months of her short life.

Sherry Buchanan said she prays each day for her granddaughter. She said she asks God to give Nevaeh this message: "Grandma loves you, baby, and don't ever think that I don't."
In her prayers, she also asks God that someone will come forward to admit to killing her granddaughter, providing answers to questions that will help bring her closure.
"I want to ask him, 'Why Nevaeh? Why did you pick her"?

This case just brings tears to my eyes now as much as it did when she went missing, then found in that cement grave. No other words, except, PLEASE rest in peace sweet Angel Baby Nevaeh, and May Justice come to you in the NEAR future!!

To this day this case haunts me.

It seems like her grandmother is the only one who cares about her. Jennifer sure as hell didn't. I wish the grandmother had had custody. This would have never happened.

I doubt the police will ever find the killer. OR, they have but they won't be charged. That George Kennedy and that other ass..they make me ill. It is one thing to sexually assault a child. That is the worst! But to then bury them alive? :mad:

Search continues for Nevaeh Buchanan's killer

On May 24 of last year, five-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan vanished from the Charlotte Arms apartment complex.

Eleven days later her body was found encased in cement along the banks of the River Raisin.

In the days following, persons of interest began to surface, but no one was ever charged with the crime. Despite the passage of time, many in Monroe are hopeful including members of Nevaeh's family who say they have confidence in the sheriff's office and they believe investigators know more than they are letting on.

Nevaeh's grandmother Sherry Buchanan tells us she is in constant contact with detectives . She says there isn't a day that goes by that she doesn't think about her granddaughter Nevaeh and the search for her killer. "I just want this person to come forward, whoever did this. I don't have any more anger than what I had on day one."

Sherry Buchanan says, "I think they have evidence they just aren't sharing right now." Investigators refuse to speak with the media on camera. In fact, our last interview with the sheriff was back on June 24.

I just realized that it is almost one year ago that Nevaeh was murdered. I can't believe they haven't arrested anyone yet! At least, I'm glad that her grandmother is helping to keep this case "alive". I have faith that one day, there will be justice for Nevaeh!!

I think LE missed the boat on this one. I doubt we will ever truly know who killed her, and in such a brutal way. To think, she was riding her bike in her apartment parking lot and poof, she was gone. They have no leads evidently...yet, two sex offenders who also happen to be "friends" of the mother sit in jail on warrant violations.

MONROE, MI -- More than 2 years since the abduction and murder of Nevaeh Buchanan, the organization "Justice For Nevaeh" is still working to find person responsible for the Monroe toddler's death.

On Thursday night, another event was held to distribute posters publicizing the up to $50,000 still being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

In the months since the girl's disappearance and death, local residents have been working with authorities to generate new leads in the case.

Earlier this year, "Justice For Nevaeh" spearheaded an effort to create a new team of responders that would be dispatched when a missing child is reported.

Nevaeh disappeared from her apartment complex on May 24, 2009, when she was 5 years old.

In early June that year, fishermen discovered the girl's body in a concrete-covered grave near the bank of the River Raisin.

MONROE, MI (WTOL) - A memorial Christmas party for Neveah Buchanan was attended by 500 children Sunday night.

The group Justice for Nevaeh organized the event for the little girl who was murdered more than two years ago.

The children sang Christmas carols, had lunch and played games to honor her memory.

There was also an identification registry set up for children, so authorities have their identification information should they ever come up missing.

Joe Starkey with Justice for Nevaeh says they are still actively looking for the child's killer.

"It's a very active investigation, active on multiple levels of law enforcement,' said Starkey. It remains a priority, and we're confident the case is going to be solved."

Neveah was kidnapped from her apartment complex and found dead along the banks of the River Raisin. A $50,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of her killer.

Nearly three years ago, 5-year-old Neveah Buchanan disappeared from her Monroe, Michigan apartment complex parking lot.

Eleven days later, her body was found buried on the banks of the River Raisin. There are still no arrests in the case, but the sheriff's office has narrowed its investigation, and for the first time in years Nevaeh's mother is breaking her silence.

Nevaeh disappeared from the Charolette Arms apartment complex Memorial Day weekend of 2009.

"She came in, kicked her shoes off and ran outside," remember her mother, Jennifer Buchanan.

After 11 days of searching, Buchanan's body was found encased in cement on the banks of the River Raisin. The coroner said it appears the little girl was buried alive.

Three years later, Jennifer says every day is a struggle.

"I keep busy, try to keep my mind off of it, off of things, off of that day," she says.

But there are still so many unanswered questions. Shortly after Nevaeh's disappearance, police took Roy Lee Smith and George Kennedy into custody on parole violations. They both have links to Nevaeh's mother, but they were never been charged.

"I haven't spoken to the police in over two years," Jennifer says. "They haven't been contacting me, haven't kept me updated or informed."

After getting national attention, at one point all eyes were on Jennifer.

"I had nothing to do with this, and people don't realize that," she says.

But, without any arrests in the heinous crime, the community is still looking for answers.

"It's been so frustrating," she says. "This investigation has been going on too long, and it needs to come to an end.

The group Justice for Nevaeh is offering $50,000 to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect.

She may have had nothing DIRECTLY to do with her beautiful daughter's murder, but she was Living with a registered sex offender and was friends with the other one. They've been in the clink on parole violations ever since Neveah's body was found. :FBI:

MONROE — Police say they're closer to arresting the person responsible for kidnapping and murdering 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan of Monroe, who disappeared three years ago and was found buried near a Michigan river.

Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield tells the Monroe Evening News that investigators have "an eye on a person or persons" and have "significantly narrowed" their focus.

Crutchfield says the community is "not in danger from this person or persons," and an arrest is possible.

Sherry Buchanan, Nevaeh's grandmother, says she's frustrated that no one has been arrested. She says Nevaeh's mother, Jennifer, lives in Monroe with a friend and is working toward her GED.

Nevaeh disappeared May 24, 2009, from Monroe, about 35 miles south of Detroit. Her body was found 10 days later along the nearby River Raisin.

Well, Well. Isn't it just a TAD ODD that they NOW have a "suspect" EXACTLY 3 years to the day Neveah disappeared? I hope this isn't just some media hype to keep the case going and they Really have a viable suspect. Oh, and the mother? She should be shot!

I am reading on a google search result that they are both registered sex offenders with links to Jennifer Buchanan.

The event in honor of Nevaeh Buchanan is to get under way Sunday night at St. Mary's Park in Monroe.

The Monroe Evening News says the vigil is to be hosted by the Justice for Nevaeh committee.

The vigil comes as police say they're getting closer to arresting the person responsible for kidnapping and killing Nevaeh.

Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield recently told the paper investigators have "an eye on a person or persons" and have "significantly narrowed" their focus.

Monroe— After three years of memorials, plaques and playscapes, a community gathered again Sunday to remember a little girl who was kidnapped and killed, and to remind others her assailant hasn't been found.

Some 50 people, including relatives, gathered at St. Mary's Park for a memorial, said Rev. Dale Hayford of Crosswalk Community Church, a family friend who spoke at the girl's funeral.

"People are very caring in Monroe," he said Sunday night.

Nevaeh Buchanan was last seen the evening of May 24, 2009, playing on her scooter in the parking lot of the Charlotte Arms apartment complex, where she lived with her mother and grandmother.

The search for the missing girl made national headlines.

Ten days later, Nevaeh's body was found along the nearby River Raisin, covered in concrete.

Monroe residents have not forgotten about the case, which remains under investigation.

"It's still a main topic of discussion in Monroe," Hayford said.

The vigil comes as police say they're getting closer to an arrest in the kidnapping and killing of Nevaeh.

Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield recently said investigators have "an eye on a person or persons" in her death and have "significantly narrowed" their focus.

That encourages the girl's relatives, who plan a motorcycle benefit next month to help create a memorial fund in her honor.
