Unsolved Murder of 15 yr old Leah Freeman Leah0110

Leah Nicole Freeman was a bright, beautiful 15 year-old living with her loving family in Coquille, Oregon.

On June 28, 2000 Leah disappeared. The community searched and searched for five long weeks. On August 3, 2000 Leah’s slain little body was found approximately nine miles from home. She had been murdered. The only information Leah’s family has been given to date regarding her tragic death is that it was the result of “homicidal violence.” They have not been given a detailed cause of death. The cause of death, as listed on Leah's death certificate, is “pending investigation.” To this day her murder remains unsolved.

Her Website:

This one hits pretty close to home. I moved to Coquille with my mother and brother around June of 2001, when this case was still so fresh in peoples minds. The community of Coquille was devastated and still mourn the loss of this precious girl to this day. Every time I go back to visit my mom, who still lives there, I still see posters with her pretty face on them and the words "Justice for Leah". It makes me sad to think that her family has not received the justice they have been looking for. I hope and pray that one day this family will get the answer they have long awaited for!

Thank you so much mommyof3kids. It will be 9 years June 28th since I saw Leah. I guess I should let people know that I am Leah's Mom! I miss her as much today as I did the day she disappeared. I thought it would get better with time....but no. Perhaps justice would help. What I wouldn't do to see the scum that killed her pay his/her dues. But I rarely hear anything from law enforcement, so I guess there is nothing new in her case. I've often wondered how these high profile cases get their cases on the national news. I have tried so many times but to no avail.
I will not give up....I will seek justice til my last breath.

Cory,
Words cannot express the empathy I feel for you having read your post and the post above it concerning your beloved daughter. As a mother myself I cannot imagine your ongoing pain.

I can only hope that posting on websites such as this will help, somehow, someway, to bring forth tips for law enforcement with cases such as your daughter's and that she and the others will have the justice long-overdue them.

Aw...Thank you TerryRose! Oddly enough, I understand your part on not being able to express the empathy you feel for me. I really do. I don't even know what to say to other Mothers who have lost. You would think a person in my position would, but I don't. The pain is far beyond anything I can explain. I wish it on noone.

Hopefully this is the site I've been looking for for 9 years now!!!! (WOW - 9 years......long time for this ol' gal!) Sometimes it seems like 9 days - sometimes like 20 years. It's weird.

Life definitely took a change for me the day Leah was taken from us. :(

Hi Cory,
I'm glad you were able to come to this site. I know in my heart that the people here....my daughter (mommyof3kids) and the other wonderful people... will do their best to get the word out about Leah. Aimi is right...when we moved here we imediately felt drawn to this case. We were new and didn't know anyone, but somehow Leah's face really touched us. Leah is one of the main reason's my daughter does what she can to search out and investigate these cases. Aimi and I plan on working together to get this case out there...and I continually try to find her (Leah) national attention. We will not stop until the person or persons responsible are brought to justice... Hugs to you my friend~

Hey treaves! Yes I had the wonderful opportunity of chatting with mommyof3kids a few times today! You have a very awesome daughter! Thank you both for all you do (are doing) for Leah's case. She let me know she got this up and it happened again.......I had to get off and set my mind straight... it's always such a shock (even if I know it's coming) to see Leah's face (picture) on websites, posters etc. I burst into tears EVERY time. Kinda like I just wanna reach through the screen and touch her. So, Leah was an inspiration to mommyof3kids? Leah would be so happy that you two are doing what you are for her. God Bless you Both. Hugs back to you.

Shoot! :o Just when I didn't think I had any tears left!! I already feel the supportive and caring atmosphere here just from the few posts that have been made. I'm thinking the timing was right for this website to "fall into my email" as the 9 year anniversary of Leah's death is the 28 of this month. Rough day.
You're right......Leah deserves justice. And the person/persons responsible needs to pay the price. I live for that day.

Let us all here agree to occasionally pull this thread back up through a post to keep it fresh in the minds of those who read here. There are other cases from my locale unfortunately just like yours, time has passed, there are no leads, they are being forgotten. I wish there was a thread that we could all list the names of children from the past 50 years whose murderers were never found. Sometimes, they never even found the children. Maybe a memorial list posted---I have several from our area that I would post.

TerryRose... Thank you so much my sweets for posting this... I 100% agree with you!! We can't forget about these cases! That is why I posted on the Brittanee Drexel case. She has only been missing since April 25th and I already feel she has been taken out of the headlines!! We need a place where ALL cases are headline News! We can do that here!!!! We all just need to work together and do it!!!

Yay! You guys are awesome!
It has always been my greatest fear that Leah would be forgotten. You are right in that there are other cases like this one. I hear it daily. You mention the fact that they sometimes never find the children. We have a case like that in Corvallis - what 200 miles from here? Her name is Brooke. She disappeared a year or two after Leah and to date no body has been found. However, they do have someone in jail for her murder! Yeah. Like Leah's case is just the opposite from hers. Isn't it just a sad sad day when people are taking our children and raping and killing them? Some are even taken right from their own homes....and beds. Unbelievable.

I am so very sorry for your loss, as you stated earlier there are no words to say to you to make you feel any better. I lost a friend to murder 5 years ago and it still is fresh, I could not even begin to imagine losing a child. However I want you to know which I'm sure you already do, that Leah is in the loving arms of Jesus and you will see her again one day.

Can you give us whatever information you can involving her case, involving her disappearance, anything at all helps, are there any POI (persons of intrest). I have another resource that I can use it may help.

Hi Butterfly! Kory huh?? Well, I gotta tell ya......my name has always seemed weird to me.......my first name is actually Corliss!! I know sounds a bit different doesn't it?! I have always gone by Cory! The name Corliss is (or was?) the name of a Catholic School somewhere up by Salem Oregon. My Grandmother was a staunch Catholic and decided THAT was going to be my name! So I have been stuck with it for life!
I have absolutely no doubt where Leah is today. And yes, I am one who believes that I will see her again come my time to leave this earth.
As for information involving Leah's case.....her website probably has most of the information. If you go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and go to the legal documents, I think you will probably be very surprised! It has always amazed me that her boyfriend had very suspicious behaviors, failed his polygraph horribly, and still walks free. That of course is simply "my opinion". There is also [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] which has Leah's case in there along with a few other missing children and unsolved murders. Hmm.....let me think a bit as for what other sites may have information. I have a friend from Chicago who put Leah's case on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - she has a timeline and other links on there as well. Give me a bit here and I will get back to you on that.
Thank you Butterfly for your comment!

Yikes! Thats like only 16 days away! Hmm... We did the Scholarship like a week ago and I thought at that time that I would omit the vigil for this year. These things just take the wind right out of my sails. And it seems like alot happens in June. Then I thought about how we didn't have a float in the Gay 90's Parade this year. So I'm still going back and forth with whether to do a vigil or not. Ya know, it probably wouldn't take a whole lot to talk me into it!! I have never not had one on the 28th. Could be disappointed if I don't too. But ya know it really bothers me when not many people show up. We advertised like crazy last year and there wasn't many there. So I guess I don't know!!! If nothing else I could always have just a small vigil at her bench. Very peaceful park. She used to play there all the time as a child ....... that's why her bench is placed there. What do you guys think?

Sorrow - I already know that you would love a vigil.... you are such a good friend and I love ya Girl! So happy to see you here! :D

If we are all too busy for a physical vigil.. we could always have an internet one ❤

There is a facebook group who is haveing one for Caylee! And I am sure we will have something for her here on the 16th.

We could start a new post or something of that sort on here, we can all gather and honor your beautiful daughter Leah! I know members of this site would participate!

Just let me know what you think about that!

Also note Cory, that you are free to express what ever feelings you may have about your case on here! We all care and want justice for your daughter! I have been reading soo much on this case and it breaks my heart! I wish so much that they could just break this case wide open... and I can't imagine your daily struggle with all that surrounds this case and the poeple involed.

Dear Cory,

I have been going through all the docs on WS and noticed you had a PI about 7 years ago. Was he/she able to shed any light on this case at all??

Have you tried calling the national news channels or ABC's 20/20 or CBS's 48 hours??

There has to be something that can be done!!

I am so happy you chose this board to share your story and find some comfort!!! Mommy of 3 kids is a wonderful, warm, lovely person and we are all here for you, so please know that you are always in our thoughts and prayers!!

Kathie

Hello! And thank you!

Oh Goodness....the P.I. Now that is a sad story! He was hired by a family member (who wished to remain anonymous) that lived in a different town. I wasn't being kept aware of how much the P.I. was being paid until it was too late. What happened was the P.I. got $14,000 and gave me approximately 10 pages of interviews he did with Leah's friends. That's it! I tried to have charges filed against him but it just never happened. Don't know why. I gave the D.A. everything. I've understood that the P.I. passed away a few years ago. I tell ya, everything that could go wrong in this case DID GO WRONG!

As for contacting the national news - OMG!! I have (and many of my friends have) tried every single one I could think of! Times! The closest we ever got was Leah was scheduled to be aired on AMW on August 5, 2000. But they found her little body on August 3rd, so the segment was cancelled. I have contacted them again, sending soooooo much stuff and got a letter in the mail saying her story "didn't fit the criteria"? I've always wondered how these cases get to the national news!!

Thank you Wrapitup for the welcome and your comforting words.

Welcome Sorrow! How on earth did you slip past me??? Suspect :D Cory told me she sent an email out ❤

Cory, I wish I could express how it pains me to know that your little girls killer has not been brought to justice. Always keep in mind that one day, whomever did this, will have to meet his/her maker. I firmly believe that if justice is not served in this lifetime, it will for that person in the end. I know that is not much comfort right now. I hope that we can bring some comfort to you as friends. I believe I can say that Victims Heartland will do everything we can to keep your precious Leah's memory alive & I can also promise that she will not be forgotten by MANY of us.

Bigs {{{HUGS}} to you my new friend.

~FystyAngel~

Fysty I wasn't ignoring your post...just choking up trying to reply! I think that is one of the most awesome posts I have ever seen. Although the tears are streaming down my face again, you have managed to give me peace and comfort here. Your words are beautiful and I too believe that Leah's killer will one day meet our Maker. Judgement day will come, maybe not here on earth, but it will come. From your post here and your pm's today, I feel more comfort than I have in a long long time. Thank God for this site and all the wonderful people here.

I wonder if this "PI," and I use that term loosely, took info to his grave.

As far as AMW, even though Leah was found has absolutely NOTHING to do w/the fact that her killer is still at large. So, I don't get that at all. I would suggest contacting all the major news outlets, even Geraldo (gulp) and bugging the dog s**t out of them until one says, "Hey, you know what? This is truly a cold case that needs to be looked into."

Also, and I know this may be just too painful for you, I would like more information on the boyfriend. Feel free to email or PM me with as much information as you can spare on him, his best friend and his family. How long were they together? Did you ever see any signs of abuse, etc. And please know that I completely understand this may be too painful for you!!

I am here for you should you need me!!!

God Bless You!!

Cory,
You have to know that even though there were circumstances that kept you and I from really being close...I am in your corner and I totally understand where you are coming from. I want justice for you and Leah and I will help you do what ever it takes to get it. I'm glad you are liking what you see here. These ladies will keep Leah in the forefront no matter what. I am also hoping that the new chief does what he said he would do and keeps this case open. I ♥️ you!

Hi Cory. Im very sorry for your loss. I moved out of Eugene in May of 2001.

I really hope they catch the monster who did this to your daughter. Please dont lose hope, sometimes it takes a "buttefly" effect to bring something like this straight to the surface.

Im glad you joined this site, and you are among friends here. Please let me know if there is anything i can do for you.

Hi Cory, I think your right about waiting a bit for it to get dark this year. I still have a few small Handheld banners, and a few deep dish candle holders too.
Some candles as well.
Can you think of anything elts that might be needed?
I can get it!!
I know the last few days has got you in a whirlwind and I live closer to Freddy's,wal-mart or K-mart than you do.
Just let me know what is needed.

I don't know who? Posted the comment about contacting every news,tv host's,ect. In the country and bugging the sh** out of them till the notice Leah's case!! That is that same feeling I have! And I HAVE sent numorous emails to all of them. I feel(and Cory has said the same) it just don't get worded right. If that makes sense! :)
I know I am not the best at wording things correctly but the link to Leah's website I sent to em' would have said it all.
Ok well the little ones are wanting this MOM OF 4 here :) to cook them up some food.
Talk with you soon Cory.

Well well well!!!!! Looks like I missed out on quite a bit today!! You have been some busy ones here! You are ALL too much!!! You guys! This is just beyond words! I am sorry - I didn't know I was going to be gone all day. I am soooooooo overwhelmed!

Wrap - Seriously - what I was trying to say is the guy did nothing. It was all a con. The family member he was getting the money from was 84 years old (at that time - still alive and doing well!!) sweet sweet man. Love him dearly. The PI found my 2 sisters and myself at A FUNERAL! Told us he knew what happened to Leah and we bought into it. We didn't even approach the family member for the money. The PI did. The PI also lied to me about how much money he had gotten from the family member. When I finally confronted him he said he thought it was arount $7,000. Just lie after lie after lie.
And yes, I was absolutely stunned when I got the letter from AMW. I still have it! That has actually been probably 5 years ago by now.
Ahhhh yes! THE BOYFRIEND!!! Umm....aparently you read about him? I really don't know what to say on that note! I'll put it this way......It is very much my opinion that there is a reason why he failed his polygraph, then came directly to my house, with his parents, walked directly to the back yard and threw up everywhere. While he's throwing up, his father is hugging me out in the driveway and I pushed away and asked what was wrong with Nick. His Dad told me he had just given a polygraph. My response was "AND.......??" His response was " Poo, passed it with flying colors!"
How long were Nick and Leah together? Let's see...I think they got together shortly after the beginning of the school year so like from September til June. I made them break up at one point because she was crying alot about him and he was older than her.
I never saw any signs of abuse...not physical anyway. But I heard of it later on.
I don't know what to think about his friend ( and I'm assuming you are speaking about Brent in the documents).

I know you have questions Wrap....You email me or pm me and I will answer each one to the best of my ability. OK??

Also thank you so much for your interest in Leah's case!

treaves,
I do know lady! I truly do know. To me that is so far behind us now. Things have changed. Situations have changed. And believe it or not - even I have changed. I KNOW you want justice. That my friend has never ever been a question in my mind. I can see it in your words......and we did share some good nice emails. I remember. I haven't lost my WHOLE mind!!! I just hope and pray that together WE can all see this through and get Leah Freeman the justice that is so overdue to her. And we can ALL as a group praise the day that Leah's killer is behind bars where he belongs.

P.S. Dont' think I'm cutting the new Chief any slack!!!! Yes...I have made my appearance - in all my raging glory!!!!! He has seen that side of me!!!

The very moment I get some spare time, I have a few things in mind to help Cory. Pressure on LE from all over the Country (and beyond) may be what he/she needs to light a fire under that behind. DNA is SO much more advanced now as well. Pull that file out of storage & lets find her killer and get justice for Leah!

I believe you & your daughter brought ME an Angel (in Cory). One person is just that, 50 people is getting to "mob" status but the internet can be a wonderful thing. Easy access to lots of information & contacts. Hundreds, maybe even thousands CAN make their voices heard.

Leah will NOT be forgotten!

Hi Juanita!
Thank you. So are you still an Oregonian?

Well...I've been trying to gather addresses all day. However...it seems that over the last year most all of these programs have gone to an online "form" for reporting a story, so I guess we'll just have to each go to :

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I will continue to look for snail mail address as well. I used to sell advertising so I am going to put together a "media kit" to mail out to every big news agency I can find addresses for. I have already started making copies of all of the documents from Leah's website, and I want to print off her picture on photo paper so it makes an impact.

That is my project for this week.

Cory, I'll send you a completed one when I get it togehter, ok? You should know what is going out every step of the way!

Good Morning Everyone! I am so sorry I haven't been on here for 2 days! What family members I have left seem to be in a termoil! Just when I think I can sit down and make a response, the phone rings! And I'm off again to rescue!! One moved in with me yesterday!
My daughter has also had a few problems here recently also. She is pregnant with her fourth child (or so we think anyway!) but they can't seem to find a baby in there....they thought it was a tubal pregnancy but checked that yesterday and it isn't. Now it is the waiting game I guess. Perhaps a prayer for her? She is so scared.
Well, hopefully I will be able to be on here more today.....

Hi Mommyof3kids!!

Yeah....things will get better. I worry sick about Denise (my daughter) but the others are gonna have to step up and pull themselves together! Thanks for your prayers. It means the world to me.

I'm curious to see if AMW responds and if so what their response is. I actually wondered if they really looked at the information I sent them. For them to say her story didn't fit the criteria really seemed odd to me.

A great big THANK YOU to all who are working on this!

Can you call them?????????? Or email them???

As much as I respect John Walsh, I feel AMW has become so big that he has little control over it anymore.

Post by Guest Mon Jun 22, 2009 5:07 pm

Here it is June again, my cousins murder is still unsolved and my family goes through the painful emotions, yet again. I do realize that the pain and grief will always be with us, however Justice For Leah, would put some of these emotions in a place in our hearts that we could finally have acceptance, and let Leah rest in peace. We did have a bit of hope this morning, as Americas Most Wanted was to contact my Aunt Cory, Leahs Mother, it is now afternoon, and still waiting for the phone to ring. She has been waiting for the phone to ring for the last 9 years with some answer as to why this tragedy has not been solved. there will be a candle light vigil in honor of Leah on June 28th at 8:30 p.m. at the Sanford Heights park where there is a bench in Leahs honor. We as a family hope that many will join us in this rememberance of Leah Nicole Freeman, and we Pray for Justice For Leah.
