Misty Cummings Accused in Road Rage

LAKE MARY, Fla. -- The person who last saw Haleigh Cummings before the child disappeared has been accused of chasing another driver on a busy highway in a fit of road rage.

Deputies said Misty Croslin Cummings was the aggressor in the chase that caused a woman to fear for her life. The woman spoke exclusively to WESH 2 Wednesday night.

"Cutting me off, slamming on the brakes, coming up next to me, hanging out of the car, saying they're going to kill me," the victim said.

The alleged road rage victim, who asked to keep her identity hidden, said she merged onto Interstate 4 at Maitland Boulevard, unknowingly crossing paths with Misty Cummings, the stepmother of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings.

Police said 17-year-old Misty Cummings was a passenger in a car with a female friend, and the victim said the two made threats for about 10 miles. That's when, the victim said, it looked like the missing toddler's stepmother pulled out a gun.

"The passenger was flaunting something around, made it seem like she had a gun," the woman said. "That with the threatening, chasing me down, made me pretty scared."

Just south of Lake Mary Boulevard, deputies got in between the traffic trouble. They said the car in which Misty Cummings was riding exited the highway and pulled into a gas station.

WESH 2 reported Tuesday that Haleigh's father and Misty Cummings' husband of six months has filed for divorce.

Misty Croslin Cummings, a passenger in a blue Dodge Caliber, and the driver of that vehicle, were stopped by a deputy with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning. The deputy was responding to reports of a road rage incident which happened near on eastbound lanes of the Interstate 4.

The deputy stopped the car which exited the interstate in Lake Mary. Misty Cummings and her friend, identified as Donna Brock, were asked to step outside of the car and both were handcuffed. After searching the car, deputies did not find a handgun and subsequently the two were allowed to leave.

The car took the Lake Mary exit, driving into the jurisdiction of the Lake Mary Police Department, said Fields.
The driver parked the car at a gas station near the exit, said Fields.
“The officers forced her to the ground, then trussed her and put her in the back of the squad car,” he said. “Her knees got skinned up when they put her on the ground at the gas station.
“She endured some rough treatment. Seminole County (deputies) were fine. The other officers were fairly aggressive.”
Officers found nothing when they searched the car, Fields said.
“It was a bogus report. They didn’t find anything, so they let her go,” he said. “There was no apology. Not that I know of.
“I hope this isn’t a harbinger of things to come because of who she is.”

Courtney Ballinger, 25, of Massachusetts, placed a 911 call about 11:15 a.m. to say she was being threatened by two women in a blue Dodge Caliber, a Seminole County sheriff's report states. The encounter ended at Lake Mary Boulevard, where the eastbound Dodge pulled off the highway.

Ballinger told a dispatcher that she thought the driver had waved a gun at her and that both women made an obscene gesture toward her. The driver also threatened to beat her up, according to the 911 call.

"They're waving something around and I don't know what it is, but I don't want to find out," Ballinger told a dispatcher.

A deputy arrived and handcuffed Donna Brock, 43, of Georgia, the driver of the Dodge, the report indicates. A Lake Mary police officer handcuffed Cummings, 17, the passenger, according to the report.

A search of the car did not turn up a gun, and the two were released.

Records don't indicate what caused the problem. Ballinger, who a deputy wrote appeared scared and shaken, said the confrontation began at Maitland Boulevard when the women drove next to and made hand gestures and yelled.

"These people are like seriously scaring me big time, and I don't get scared easily," Ballinger told the dispatcher.

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- The teenager who said she put Haleigh Cummings to bed before the little girl disappeared got pulled over in Lake Mary Wednesday as investigators followed up on a report of road rage.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office, according to the Lake Mary Police Department, initiated a felony traffic stop on a car with two women inside. Misty Croslin-Cummings was in the passenger seat.

According to the Lake Mary Police Department, a woman called 911 to say she thought she saw the driver of a car on Interstate 4 wave a gun around.

Authorities stopped the car at a gas station where they conducted a felony stop because of the high-risk situation due to the report of a possible gun.

Both women were ordered out of the car at gunpoint and handcuffed, according to the Lake Mary Police Department.

Police officers searched the car. The two women stood by surprised, but calm, according to police.

Police didn't find any firearms. There were cigarette boxes in the car. The public information officer at the Lake Mary Police Department said it's possible the driver had a cigarette box in her hand and the other driver confused that with a gun.

Misty and the unidentified female driver were released and allowed to go on their way.

An attorney for Misty Croslin-Cummings told First Coast News she was on her way back to Putnam County from Orlando.

No one wanted to press charges, according to the Lake Mary Police Department. A Lake Mary Police officer told First Coast News he believes the woman who called 911 didn't know who was in the car.

Earlier this week, news surfaced that Ronald Cummings, Haleigh's father, and his teenaged wife are in the process of divorcing. The couple married shortly after Haleigh disappeared.

What If? We are still verifying some of this information, but we decided that it was important to get the news out.

The drums have been busy this morning, and there are some interesting items that are worthy of consideration.

One of the reasons that Ronald Cummings has cited as a cause for the break up of the marriage has been the constant press coverage. They could not even go grocery shopping without being in the lens of the TV cameras. Yes I can understand that that likely would put stress on any marriage. Escaping from the spotlight does seem like a good idea.

However, Ronald Cummings clearly does not practice what he preaches, if he did he would not have been on HLN’s Nancy Grace program this week. The rumor mill is also saying that today he is heading north to do a taping with Maury Povich?

Meanwhile Misty Croslin supposedly is en route to the Orlando airport to catch a 2pm Delta flight to New York. The purpose of the trip? An appearance on a National News Show. Yup, sure sounds like they are avoiding those pesky TV cameras. Oh and Misty will have a traveling companion, Donna Brock.

Who is Donna Brock? Well this is her new ‘well heeled’ friend. She was also the driver involved in the Misty Road Rage incident.

It also seems obvious that Misty and/or her driver knew the girl who called 911 over the road rage story that surfaced yesterday. But was it road rage or was this a set up? In either case, the question is why? I am not sure what the answer is, or if it matters, but is it possible that a freelance reporter who has claimed to have some exclusive interviews might be involved?

It has been reported by OrlandoSentinel.com, among others, that the woman who called 911 is Courtney Ballinger, 25, of Massachusetts.

Many people have already linked Donna Brock to Texas EquuSearch, a journey to her MySpace page reveals that.

And this same Donna Brock, according to the photos, also appears on FaceBook. Of interest is the fact that her only friend link is a freelance reporter Steph Watts. Yup, the same guy with the Misty exclusive story!

A connection between Donna Brock and Courtney Ballinger may be made via Steph Watts FaceBook friends.

Another one of his friends is a Sarah Dayiantis. She has a profile picture that shows another girl at her side who looks a lot like this woman named…Courtney Ballinger!

"These people are, like, seriously scaring me big time," Courtney Ballinger told a 911 dispatch operator at 11:16 a.m. Wednesday. A shaken Ballinger said the women threatened to beat her. Authorities questioned Brock and Cummings near the Lake Mary exit and later released both women.

Cummings told a reporter with WESH-Channel 2 that she and Brock never threatened anyone. She said Ballinger's vehicle almost hit their vehicle.

"We flicked her off and went about our business," Cummings said at Orlando International Airport on Thursday.

Cummings was headed to New York, where she will appear Friday on CBS' "Early Show." In the brief interview, she also denied allegations that she failed a polygraph test about Haleigh's disappearance.

Maybe they'll reunite and have a second honeymoon.

Totally 100% Agree with you Wrap! IDK, there was something to her story that seemed odd to me! I bet it was all a publicity stunt and they are ALL wacked out and trying to "get back" at the media. I definitely know if I have learned anything at from these cases. I definitely know I will NEVER move to Florida... and it errks me to the core that my oldest son will be spending a week and a half in Orlando at the end of this month

And like Caylee, HaLeigh, is forgotten by those who should care. WHAT the hell, does these interviews with big tv shows have to do with finding HaLeigh?

Haleigh Cummings' stepmother stopped after road rage report

ORLANDO - Misty Croslin-Cummings, stepmother of missing child Haleigh Cummings, was pulled over in a felony stop Wednesday after authorities received a call reporting a road rage incident in Orlando.

She then left Thursday for a television appearance in New York City.

Courtney Ballinger of Massachusetts told the Seminole County Sheriff's Office she was followed by a blue Dodge Caliber while eastbound on Interstate 4 at 11:15 a.m.

She said passenger Croslin-Cummings, 17, and driver Donna Brock, 43, of Georgia, were screaming at her and making hand gestures while following her for about 10 minutes.

Ballinger said she called the sheriff's office, fearing for her safety.

"They need to hurry. There's someone following me, and they are harassing me, she's waving something - I don't know if she has a gun. Please send somebody," Ballinger told a 911 dispatcher. "These people are seriously scaring me."

Brock and Croslin-Cummings stopped at a gas station at Lake Mary Boulevard and were ordered out of their car at gunpoint, the police report said.

The two were detained while the vehicle was searched. No gun was located. They were released after being questioned.

Cummings told a reporter for WESH Channel 2 that she and Brock never threatened anyone. She said Ballenger's vehicle almost hit theirs.

"We flicked her off and went about our business," Cummings said at Orlando International Airport on Thursday.

Texas-based EquuSearch founder Tim Miller, who helped search for Haleigh, said Thursday, "Every place Misty Cummings goes, she takes destruction with her."

Attorney Robert Fields, who represents Croslin-Cummings, said there were inconsistencies in the 911 call from the road rage incident in that the caller was reading the license plate number to the dispatcher while she said they were following her.

Fields said the 17-year-old is now living in Orlando.

Brock, a friend of Croslin-Cummings, formerly worked for EquuSearch, Fields said.

Croslin-Cummings is scheduled to appear today on CBS' "Early Show."'

Earlier this week, Croslin-Cummings and her husband, Haileigh's father Ronald Cummings, announced they were splitting up.

Ronald Cummings and his mother, Teresa Neves, were taped Thursday for an appearance on the Maury Povich show. The show, featuring several missing children, is to air at 1 p.m. Oct. 22.

Croslin-Cummings was babysitting Haleigh the night the 6-year-old vanished from her Satsuma home.

She reported her missing at 3:27 a.m. on Feb. 10, and though numerous searches have been conducted, no sign of Haleigh has been found.

Croslin-Cummings married Haleigh's father about a month after the child went missing.

Divorce papers are expected to be filed next week, Fields said.
