Over on the boards we continue to look for Morgans killer. One of the gals posted this picture and we all think it looks a lot like Sketch. What do you think?

The following are some of the comments posters are leaving on this fellow. The last one was written by an attorney in our group. The Joe referred to is Joe Rader the lead detective from VSP. This group never gives up on finding Morgans killer.
===============================
So, if the article is correct, this guy raped the college student on January 26, 2010, the day Morgan was found.

This guy has some other court records in the system. Interestingly, he was charged with misdemeanor assault in Fairfax City in Feb. 2009 that was later dismissed. He also was charged with second degree assault in MD in 1998.
Currently, his court records in Maryland shows that he must be going under a mental eval.

Yeah, that's the only problem, I would think that CODIS would have picked him up by now. I was just flabbergast when I read that article and realized that he was in Fairfax. I didn't call this in because I'm giving LE the benefit of the doubt that they checked on him by now. Don't know if I should be thinking this way or not actually.

I would call that one in or e-mail it if I were you. It's not one they would view as a waste of time one like they might a vision or feeling IMO.

I called in the Joseph Broadway one and they were very nice about it. It is just some clerk who takes down the info for the detectives. Email if you don't want to deal with them.

CODIS should have him (and will eventually) but we have all read about delays.

Jeanne, I hope the pic is the guy they are looking for as Morgan's killer. I know this case has weighed heavily on your mind. He DOES look a lot like the sketch that is upthread.

But don't they have a DNA match for Morgan's killer and the guy in the sketch? Surely they would have matched this guy's DNA by now if he was the one.

I don't know how to get these side by side but comparing the two, the pic and drawing kind of does look like each other.

As Lisette said, what about DNA for this guy? That would certainly confirm or not right there. Is LE looking at this guy?

ACtually a whole lot of black men look like Sketch. It just happens that way.

One would hope VSP are "on the job". But their whole attitude has been "we will handle it" "we shall tell nothing" Frustrating as all get out.

So when one of us gets a really hot something then we have Raders direct line and we ship it over. Nobody ever hears back if it is a good or bad tip. So who knows.

One would think if they suspect somebody they would follow them into a restaurant and retrieve a glass or cigarette butt and run a DNA test...wouldn't one?

They are detectives..right. But who knows.

We unearthed somethings wrong with the investigation.

By the way you would faint if you knew of the number of unsolved murders of young women in VA.

All young women..stay away from VA. VA is not for lovers!

I agree - the sketch & the picture are very similar! I am curious, where did the sketch come from? In other words, who was it that provided the info for the sketch?

The sketch is from somebody that came upon this guy after he raped a girl up in Fairfax, VA in I think 2005. The witness and the victim came up with this sketch. The victim was walking home from the grocery store to an apartment complex where she was visiting with friends. She is middle eastern and might not speak English. He came up behind her and dragged her to the pool area of the complex and might have killed her after rapeing her but along came a witness and sketch ran.

The picture is from a guy that recently raped a young girl in a college bathroom in VA.

There are some similarities between the cases.

For some reason the past few days I have had Morgan and her parents on my mind. I was thinking about the series of events that led to her walking across that bridge. poor choices that ended horribly.

Perhaps you are thinking of her because that January 26 date is looming. That is the date Morgan was found one year ago.

VSP are supposed to hold some kind of press conference. Which will be the first since the day she was found..one year ago. I don't believe it will be much.

In my opinion Morgans case has gone cold.

A week ago the Harringtons appeared on JVM show in support of Samantha Ann Clark. Another girl missing.

They are trying to get that familial DNA. They have dna but no match in the system.

I don't read the hard stuff like how all this dna matchup goes but that is my understanding.

In other words they still have nothing and a killer is lose in VA.

Actually there are a lot of killers lose in VA.

Recently I was talking to a friend of mine that has relatives in Tennessee. She knows nothing about my following the Morgan Harrington case. I mentioned Morgan to her one morning at breakfast and she said to me "Oh thats the place they have a serial killer on the lose". She said nobody in Tennessee wishs to venture up that way.

Humm I say...hummm.

That's the way Los Angeles LE caught the 'Grim Sleeper' -familial DNA. That case is still evolving, they don't know how many more victims there are. So glad that monster is behind bars, but so sorry for the victims and their families.
I had never heard of familial DNA prior to the case here, I pray that they come up with something soon before the murderer in VA commits another. Morgan's parents deserve to have a little peace, at least knowing the killer is caught will help.

For the first time, Morgan Harrington's parents walked the hayfield Tuesday where a farmer discovered her skeletal remains one year ago today.

When they reached that secluded site on the 740-acre farm in Albemarle County, Gil Harrington buried her face in her husband's chest and wept.

Moments later, with Dan Harrington at her shoulder, she knelt at the spot that once cradled her daughter's bones and ran her hands through the dark soil and wheat-colored grass.

"I don't feel Morgan here," Gil Harrington said. "She's gone. I had to be here and look and feel if there was anything [of Morgan] here."

She added, "Evil happened here."

Morgan Harrington was 20 years old and a Virginia Tech student when she disappeared the night of Oct. 17, 2009, after leaving a rock concert before the main act and being barred from re-entry at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.

State Police Special Agent Dino Cappuzzo said Morgan was last seen about 9:20 p.m. on the Copeley Road bridge with her thumb extended as though hitchhiking.

Cappuzzo and the Harringtons, who are residents of Roanoke County, led a small group of TV and newspaper reporters Tuesday on a walking tour of the key known events of Oct. 17, 2009.

When Gil Harrington's weeping began at the farm, all cameras swiveled in her direction. The Harringtons said Tuesday's media tour was emotionally grueling. But they emphasized that, if renewed coverage of the case leads to capturing the killer, the raw grief provoked will justify the pain.

Gil Harrington said she believes more than one person might have participated in the killing. Cappuzzo declined to say whether investigators share this view. His narrative throughout the day generally referenced a single killer who was male.

He confirmed that DNA analysis definitively links Morgan's case to a similar crime in Fairfax County in 2005. Police previously released a sketch of that suspect.

Cappuzzo said behavioral and geographical crime scene specialists have convinced authorities that Morgan's killer was familiar with the territory where her remains were found in a small clearing near a tree-lined creek.

"They did not feel they would be discovered in bringing her here," Cappuzzo said. "The location is not something a person unfamiliar with this area is likely to find on a whim."

He said the site could have been reached via different routes, with the nearest access point being about 100 yards from the place where Morgan's remains were found.

Cappuzzo declined to say whether police believe she was killed at the site or dumped there. He would not say whether tire tracks were detected at the scene. And he would not disclose the suspected cause of death or say whether the cause has been determined.

But Cappuzzo said investigators believe the man who abducted and killed Morgan is still "moving about" in the nearby Red Hill and North Garden sections of Albemarle County.

"I feel very confident this case will solve," he said.

He would not say whether police have a specific suspect in mind. But he added, "That person doesn't know it yet, but we're getting closer."

The disappearance

Three friends accompanied Morgan to the Metallica concert Oct. 17, 2009. They rode from Harrisonburg in Morgan's car and parked at the John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia about 6:15 p.m., Cappuzzo said. He said a friend was the night's designated driver, which is why Morgan had no car keys later.

The women entered the arena and took their seats, he said. About 8:15 p.m., Morgan said she was going to the restroom. At some point, Cappuzzo said, witnesses saw Morgan fall as she walked through the arena's concourse. She might have bloodied her chin, he said, but refused help from people who witnessed her spill.

For some reason, he said, Morgan then exited the arena. She was warned she could not return without a ticket stub, Cappuzzo said. People outside the arena who encountered Morgan told police they believed "she was impaired in some way," he said.

"I can say that Morgan had been drinking alcohol that night, but I'm not going to say what degree of intoxication there was, in deference to the family and this investigation," Cappuzzo said.

At 8:48 p.m., one of Morgan's friends inside the arena called her cellphone to inquire about Morgan's whereabouts. Cappuzzo said Morgan described being barred from the concert and then said, essentially, "Don't worry about me. I'll find a ride."

Cappuzzo said Morgan joined a group of male students who were leaving the arena and heading toward their cars in a lot at Lannigan Field, a spot where UVa athletes often park. Morgan occasionally supported herself along the way by leaning against parked cars, he said. They soon reached the vicinity of Lannigan Field -- where Morgan's backpacklike purse, umbrella and cellphone were later found.

"She asked them for a ride, but, based on her behavior, they did not give her a ride," he said.

None is a suspect, Cappuzzo said.

Morgan then walked to the nearby Copeley Road bridge and apparently began hitchhiking. Authorities believe a vehicle stopped and that Morgan probably entered willingly, he said.

In drizzling rain, she wore a black miniskirt, black tights, knee-high black boots with high heels and a black T-shirt with "Pantera" written on the front.

"She has no coat, the weather is beginning to deteriorate. She doesn't have her phone," Cappuzzo said. "She's in a vulnerable and compromised position. The logical conclusion is that she got in a vehicle somewhere on Copeley Road between the bridge and the intersection with Ivy Road."

On Nov. 11, a college student found a T-shirt investigators have determined was Morgan's at the corner of Grady Avenue and 15th Street in Charlottesville -- an area in the opposite direction from which an abductor would have driven the 10 or 11 miles to the Anchorage Farm.

Cappuzzo said behavioral specialists recommended Tuesday's recap of Morgan's disappearance and death. Gil Harrington described the couple's feelings about finding those responsible.

"For Dan, it's personal," she said. "As a father and with a father's protective instincts, he wants punishment.

"For me, I feel punishment will be delivered, if not here then later. But I don't want anyone else to live through this. My child is dead, and nothing will bring her back. But I can't give up on the next girl."

Cappuzzo declined to say whether police believe she was killed at the site or dumped there. He would not say whether tire tracks were detected at the scene. And he would not disclose the suspected cause of death or say whether the cause has been determined.
All that was left of her were skeletal remains, just like Caylee crying - so I doubt very seriously that "they" know the cause of death.

"I can say that Morgan had been drinking alcohol that night, but I'm not going to say what degree of intoxication there was, in deference to the family and this investigation," Cappuzzo said.
I think one of 2 things:

1)She MAY have been drinking alcohol. I am not sure that this Cappuccpo is correct and/or if the autopsy would show alcohol in her system as there were only skeletal remains as I stated before.

2) Someone slipped a Rufinol, GHB, EX or Acid in her drink and she wigged completely out..probably had no clue where she was. This may have shown up in her bones as well and Cappuzzo is keeping this close to the vest to save the Harrington's more grief.

He would not say whether police have a specific suspect in mind. But he added, "That person doesn't know it yet, but we're getting closer."
What an inane statement to make. He might as well go on national television and advertise that "this person has no clue yet, but he is getting closer." OMG, talk about letting the cat out of the bag! faint

I saw the Harrington's on JVM Friday and they are a class act. Gil really tugs at my heartstrings. They are such wonderful people and have done everything they can. I don't know that I could go to the scene of the crime 16 months later. I have nothing but respect for the Harrington's and I hope that Justice is Finally served and the killer is caught and gets the DP!

Wrap they have no CAT IN THE BAG. After all this time they have nothing.

VSP took over this case from Charlottesville PD. What a mess they have made of it. They found something they won't tell what with this dna on it..we think.

The last people to see Morgan were three bb players. Her purse was found in that lot as was her cellphone..with no battery. Hummm.

The concert at JPJ was a hard metal, Metallica, concert. If you look at pictures all red necks not a black man in the bunch except for one stage hand and one security fellow inside the stadium. Scanning the group..none.

So you have three bb players, black and now a suspected rapest with supposed dna, black. Her purse found at the scene of the meeting.

Connect the dots.

It was family weekend at VSP which is on the same property as JPJ the arena. I truly believe some relative is the missing piece of the puzzle. Somebody from out of town that was visiting the bb players.

They do have a lot of unsolved murders in VA. Another big one is Heidi and David. About a year before Morgan. Then they have all those parkway murders.

What a shame these murderers walk the streets free and easy while these beautiful young people are dead.

Morgan Harrington Disappeared From Metallica Concert 10/17/09~ Her Skeletal Remains Discovered 1/26/10~DNA Links Jesse Matthew Jr. Who Already Faces Charges In The 1st Degree Murder Of Hannah Elizabeth Graham~ - Page 7 Empty Update in Morgan Harrington case: Necklace wasn't with body

Post by Nama Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:24 am

Virginia State Police confirmed for the first time this week that investigators had not previously disclosed that a distinctive Swarovski-brand necklace Morgan Harrington wore the night she disappeared has not been recovered.

Morgan Harrington Disappeared From Metallica Concert 10/17/09~ Her Skeletal Remains Discovered 1/26/10~DNA Links Jesse Matthew Jr. Who Already Faces Charges In The 1st Degree Murder Of Hannah Elizabeth Graham~ - Page 7 5301457

At the time of her disappearance in October 2009, to inform the massive search that followed, police released a description of Harrington's attire when she disappeared. The details referenced clothing and other items, including the Swarovski necklace.

Corinne Geller, a state police spokeswoman, confirmed Monday that investigators had not previously reported that the necklace was missing when Harrington's skeletal remains were found Jan. 26, 2010, by an Albemarle County farmer in a hayfield. Her death was ruled a homicide. The case has not been solved, and authorities have not commented on the cause of death.

State police also announced for the first time last week that a previously disclosed link between Harrington's case and another in Fairfax is DNA-based.

Harrington was 20 years old, a Virginia Tech student and lived with her family in Roanoke County when she disappeared Oct. 17, 2009, after leaving a rock concert early in Charlottesville. She was last seen hitchhiking on the Copeley Road bridge near the John Paul Jones Arena, the venue for that night's Metallica concert. Her case has received national attention.

In an e-mail Tuesday, Geller said investigator Dino Cappuzzo, a state police investigator, "has been checking with pawn shops, flea markets, etc., to see if the necklace has turned up."

She added, "There are a number of theories as to how/why the necklace was not found with her remains."

Other jewelry was found, including a silver bracelet and a custom-made gold signet ring that aided early efforts to identify the body.

"When her remains were found, we didn't comment on what personal items were and were not recovered at the scene," Geller said. "The Harringtons themselves released to the media [information] about the ring and bracelet."

Geller said Jan. 25 was the first time state police had discussed items found with Harrington's body.

"For investigative purposes there were certain details we initially had to keep concealed from the public," Geller said.

Cappuzzo revealed last week that other items were missing, too. He would not describe them.

In November 2009, police found a black T-shirt worn by Harrington the night she disappeared. They reported it had been found by a student in Charlottesville a few miles from the concert arena.

"We're not commenting on what other articles of clothing were not recovered with the remains," Geller said.

The initial police description reported that, in addition to the T-shirt, Harrington wore a black miniskirt, knee-high black boots and black tights. Cappuzzo said last week that the tights were akin to Lycra running tights and that many other young women wore similar outfits that night for the Metallica concert.

Gil Harrington, Morgan's mother, now wears the bracelet. Investigators have not yet returned the ring, which features an imprint copied from a ring owned by Gil's father.

On Tuesday, Gil Harrington estimated the large signet ring was worth about $800 to $900.

She said she had not realized authorities had not disclosed that the necklace remained missing.

Last week, hoping to elicit new leads, investigators held a walk-through for a small group of journalists of the crime's key events and locations. Gil and Dan Harrington, Morgan's father, participated. They said they were glad authorities were sharing a few more details that might trigger someone's memory or conscience.

Cappuzzo led the tour. He has said he does not know what the necklace might be worth.

On Tuesday, Gil Harrington estimated the value of the necklace, a gift to Morgan from her brother, at about $300 to $350.

In July, police reported that forensic evidence tied to Morgan Harrington's case linked it to an unsolved abduction and sexual assault in 2005 in Fairfax. They released a composite sketch of an unidentified man believed to have been the assailant in that crime.

Cappuzzo said that DNA was the forensic evidence linking the two cases. Cappuzzo would not identify the source of the DNA sample.

Swarovski U.S. is located in Rhode Island. A company spokesman could not be reached for comment Tuesday about the necklace's design, elements and potential value.

Gil Harrington said she wonders now whether her daughter's killer or killers kept the necklace as a trophy of the crime.

Geller said media coverage of last week's walk-through yielded a "surge in tips."

Investigators encourage people to contact them with information about the case. The state police tip line is (434) 352-3467. The e-mail address is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

A reward of $150,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Harrington's killer or killers. Metallica contributed $50,000 to the reward.

Grrrrr I can't even speak about this right now. Maybe in the morning. There is just soooo much. All bad.

This necklace has been the worst for me. They would never tell if it was found or missing. Why?

Bloggers were all over the country and ready to go searching at pawn shops and looking on Craigs list.

But they kept their lips buttoned and now one and a half years later they say..oh yes the necklace is still missing.

Well VSP missed the boat on that one. They surely did.

I personally live 20 miles from one of the bb players and was actively looking at pawn shops and Craigs list and looking on Facebook for any sign of that necklace.

But it was pretty much hush hush and not to worry ourselves about the necklace because LE was in charge.

They sure were..are. To tell you the truth. With the Morgan Harrington case I pretty much lost my confidence in police in general. They just don't get their man and it because of such poor police work.

More to follow.....

Thank you Critter. Dan and Gil Harrington are simply crushed. You cry when you see them. They walk with such dignity and they loved their two children so very much.
You feel Gils pain in her writings which any of you can read over at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

We have survived 1 year of this unfathomable loss, the murder of our precious daughter Morgan Dana Harrington. So now we know it is possible to live but still haven't managed to convince ourselves at all times that survival is really worthwhile. We need to do that work and find a way to reintroduce the concept of joy into our living. Survival this first year of life with out Morgan has happened because loving compassionate people have carried us each time we faltered - Metallica, Levick, Kenny and the warriors, the Rives, Carilion and so many more. In this hideous year of Morgan's murder we have been the recipients of tremendous love. That's how we have managed. Our caring community has held us, negated evil and helped us find strength to continue fighting for justice for Morgan and other sweet naive kids who are at risk from the violent predators hiding in our midst. We have lost so much but realize that we have been gifted with caring in equal measure. Our humble thanks to all of you who continue to love and sustain us and continue demanding "where is the one who slaughtered Morgan Harrington and why does he still walk free?" 241 The Harringtons

Thanks for sharing Gil's current feelings, Jeanne. I cannot imagine what she is going through!! My prayers go out to her & her husband, family & friends - and also to you. It is so hard to understand why this tragedy has happened, and why it is not yet solved. I am still wondering what happened with this suspect - he matched the sketch so perfectly!

'He's still here' And other revelations in the Harrington case; Feb 8, 2011

It was a Saturday night in October 2009. The air outside was chilly, and a light rain was falling as the visiting father finished dinner with his daughter at a Charlottesville restaurant and the two returned to his car. As the father drove his daughter back to her dormitory around 9:20pm, their path took them past John Paul Jones Arena, where a major event was underway.

Heavy metal group Metallica had taken the stage only minutes before, and fans who'd flocked from all over the East Coast had gathered inside. As the main event roared inside the Arena, the parking lots outside were full and lights were blazing, but Copeley Road was nearly devoid of pedestrians.

As the father and daughter traveled toward Ivy Road and over the railroad bridge, the ordinary ride suddenly took them past an unusual sight. A young woman, dressed all in black with long blond hair, was standing on the bridge with her thumb extended in the classic hitchhiking gesture.

The pair would soon learn that they were among the last to see Morgan Dana Harrington alive.
*****
It's been more than a year since the body of the 20-year-old Virginia Tech education student was discovered. With no suspects named, police have been reaching out to the public in hopes that someone will be able to help take the investigation a step further. How did Morgan's body end up in a cow pasture 10 miles away? Is a killer still stalking the streets of Charlottesville and Albemarle County?

Details revealed
During a recent tour tracing Morgan's last known steps, Virginia State Police Special Agent Dino Cappuzzo shared the story of that father and daughter-- and revealed that it was their witness testimony that permitted police to pinpoint the time Morgan was likely abducted.

The father, whose identity has not been revealed, dropped his daughter off at her dorm, Cappuzzo says, a few minutes after the bridge crossing. Her electronic key was logged at 9:23pm by her dorm's security system.

On his way back to his hotel, the father stopped at the 7-11 convenience store on Ivy Road, says Cappuzzo. There, another time-stamp--- this one in the form of a register receipt--- provided police with another objective time mark around 9:30pm. When the father left the 7-11 and returned over the bridge no more than a minute or two later, Cappuzzo says, he remembered the young woman standing with short sleeves and no umbrella in the chilly drizzle. She was gone.

Within approximately 10 minutes of those two bridge crossings, two other unrelated witnesses reported to police that they'd seen a blond woman hitchhiking there. Cappuzzo says all witnesses' stories have been thoroughly vetted by police, and none are considered suspects.

The witnesses descriptions are several pieces of new information Cappuzzo released during the media tour he conducted on Tuesday, January 25, a day before the one-year anniversary of the discovery of the body. The tour marked the first news emerging from law enforcement since last summer, when State Police confirmed that DNA in the Harrington case was linked to a 2005 rape in Fairfax.

The victim in that case survived after her assailant was likely startled by a passerby; the composite sketch produced from her description of an average sized African American male, aged 25-35, is the only publicly known information about the suspected perpetrator, whose DNA now exists in the State's DNA databank, though his identity remains unknown.

Because eye-witness accounts--- particularly from traumatized witnesses--- are notoriously unreliable, police have been cautious in confirming the suspect's race. In a recent Hook story, "Familial Pain: Harringtons press police for new DNA test," police spokesperson Corinne Geller says investigators have considered various tests including an "ancestral" DNA test, which could reveal with greater certainty how the suspect might appear. That's the same test that Charlottesville police controversially ran during the serial rapist investigation in the 1990s. During that episode, mass swabbing of black men prompted cries of racism, one lawsuit, and proved unable to catch the perpetrator. (One of his victims later spotted her attacker working the meat counter at a local Harris-Teeter grocery.)

The other DNA test the Harringtons are pressing authorities to run is a familial DNA search, which could help narrow the pool of possible suspects by finding close relatives of the unknown assailant . That search will only work if the perpetrator has an immediate relative-- parent, sibling or child-- who is a convicted felon or has been arrested for a violent felony-- the two ways an individual's DNA would end up in the identified zone of the state databank.

The Virginia Department of Forensic Science has obtained and is currently in the process of validating familial DNA searching software. However, State Police spokesperson Geller says investigators must proceed "very selectively and carefully" with any DNA testing because the evidence available for analysis is limited. DNA is destroyed by the testing process and cannot be retested for different purposes that might arise.

Erratic behavior
Investigator Cappuzzo says the witnesses in the three bridge sightings claim they didn't see Harrington carrying a purse. That, he says, could be because the black purse had backpack-like straps, and if she'd been wearing it, it might not have been visible against her black Pantera t-shirt. It also could be because she'd already dropped it in the RV lot, where on the morning of Sunday, October 18, a member of the men's lacrosse team discovered it near the fence and turned it in to a lost-and-found receptacle in U-Hall. Her back-less cell phone and an umbrella were among her items also recovered from that area.

Morgan's parents, Gil and Dan, have repeatedly expressed disbelief that their daughter could have dropped her purse, left it there, and then begun hitchhiking. Such behavior doesn't match their experience of their daughter, whom they have long described as having "good sense." But descriptions from multiple witnesses who interacted with Morgan earlier in the night-- both inside and outside the Arena-- suggest she wasn't in a normal state of mind.

Cappuzzo again confirmed that Morgan had consumed alcohol that night, but he declines to describe the amount or type of drinks imbibed. He also declines comment on any other substances she may have consumed "out of respect for her family." He adds there is no indication that Morgan was unwittingly drugged or incapacitated by someone with nefarious intent.

As the Hook first reported in the weeks after her disappearance, numerous witnesses inside the Arena reported erratic behavior. Cappuzzo says she left her friends to use the ladies room sometime after 8pm while opening act Lamb of God was on stage. While on her own, at some point, she fell and injured her chin. Cappuzzo says multiple witnesses reported seeing the injury and offering assistance-- one woman saw Morgan applying paper towels to her face to blot blood from a "minor injury." Morgan, he says, rebuffed all offers of help.

The Arena's no re-entry policy has been a source of controversy, and Cappuzzo at last addressed questions about the moment Morgan left the Arena. While some have speculated that she was lured outside, Cappuzzo revealed that a ticket taker warned Morgan about the Arena's no re-entry policy as she prepared to exit through the main doors facing Copeley Road. Morgan acknowledged the warning, Cappuzzo says, then left anyway, where she was seen emptying the contents of her purse in an apparently unsuccessful effort to find her red Kodak digital camera, which has never been recovered. Standing in front of the Arena, witnesses also reported seeing her drop her phone, then retrieve it.

When she tried to reenter through the main entrance of the Arena, says Cappuzzo, the ticket taker asked for her ticket.

"She said, 'It's in pieces in my purse,'" says Cappuzzo, who says the ticket taker stopped her when it appeared she planned to dump the contents of her purse again. Told she'd need to purchase another ticket if she wanted to return, Morgan left the Arena a second time and remained in the immediate area for as long as 10 or 15 minutes, interacting with various concertgoers--- several of whom offered her assistance, which she again declined.

'Somewhat aggressive'
Among the witnesses who reported seeing Harrington was a 44-year-old man, whom the Hook interviewed a few weeks after the concert. Waiting on the Massie Road side of the Arena for a late-arriving friend who had his ticket, the man says he heard shouting from the front of the Arena and was soon approached by a young woman fitting Morgan's description and wearing a Pantera t-shirt.

She put her arm out, bent, as though to walk escorted, and said, “Let’s go," said the witness, who characterized the young woman's behavior as "somewhat aggressive." When he declined the invitation and turned to walk away, the young woman cursed at him and kicked him "in the butt."

“It wasn’t that hard,” he says of the kick, but he was disturbed enough that he immediately telephoned his girlfriend to relate the encounter.

“She told me I should call the police and report her,” he said. “Now I wish I had.”

Although that man-- cleared as a suspect, says Cappuzzo, declined to walk away with Morgan, it wasn't long before she found a group of men to join. According to Cappuzzo, sometime around 9pm, two separate groups of students--- whom the Hook has previously reported to be members of the men's basketball team--- left John Paul Jones Arena. One group left through a side door, another through the main front doors. Morgan began walking with the side-door group as they traversed Massie Road and walked through the parking lots on the west side of U-Hall, on their way to the RV lot, where student-athletes park when the Arena is busy.

The male students told police Morgan was unsteady on her feet, says Cappuzzo. "They described her as having to support herself on vehicles as she was walking," he says. In the parking lot about halfway between U-Hall and the RV lot, she dropped her phone. The back piece of it would be recovered three days later, says Cappuzzo, but the battery has never been found.

A full 10 days after her disappearance, Cappuzzo says, a bloodhound was brought in to follow Morgan's path. The bloodhound, says Cappuzzo, followed the exact path the witnesses described-- across Copeley Road and up the grassy slope into the RV lot.

That's where the two groups of male students converged, and although Harrington requested a ride from them-- to where, Cappuzzo would not reveal-- the students declined. Cappuzzo says the 14 men who saw her there have all been interviewed multiple times and their alibis have been thoroughly checked. "They had another event to attend that night," says Cappuzzo.

After the students departed, Morgan walked along the fence that separates the lot from the UVA track, according to Cappuzzo, who says her trail was picked up by the bloodhound, which stopped near a small line of portable toilets at the lot's rear. Cappuzzo says two non-student witnesses driving down a road that leads from the baseball stadium to the RV lot reported seeing Morgan in that area-- and recalled yet another unusual behavior for a young woman alone on a dark rainy night.

"She curtsied," says Cappuzzo, but she didn't attempt to flag them down.

Why, many have asked, wouldn't Morgan have gone to her own car-- which Cappuzzo says was parked in the lot between Emmett Street and U-Hall? As previously reported, one of the three friends who accompanied Morgan on their trip from Harrisonburg to Charlottesville was serving as designated driver that night, and as a result was holding on to her keys.

As Metallica prepared to take the stage, one of the friends called Morgan to ask where she was. The time of that call-- 8:48pm-- suggests a conversation before she left the vicinity of the Arena, and Cappuzzo says her friends tried to offer her tips to get back inside.

"They were trying to tell her to get to the smoking area," says Cappuzzo, who says the friend mistakenly believed that area could be accessed from outside. In fact, it is above ground and surrounded by concrete walls.

Unable to get back in, Harrington told her friend, "I'll get a ride." She was soon walking across Massie Road with the basketball team.

None of the friends who accompanied Harrington to the concert has yet spoken about that fateful night with media, but Cappuzzo says all have fully cooperated with the investigation. Other than a series of text messages with an out-of-town friend whose alibi has also been checked, Cappuzzo says Morgan had no other electronic communications.

Morgan's absence from surveillance videos has created a stir among armchair sleuths. However, a source involved in the Arena's design notes that cameras were primarily trained on the inside of the venue. Cappuzzo also downplays the absence of Morgan on security cameras at various businesses, including the Suntrust Bank at the corner of Ivy and Copeley Road. Such cameras, he notes, were designed for on-premises security, not for finding a missing person, he says. And, he adds, the relatively low quality of black and white video produced by the four-year-old John Paul Jones surveillance system makes picking one person out of thousands a difficult if not impossible task.

Even without photographic proof, Cappuzzo says plenty of evidence confirms Morgan did end up alone in the RV lot. From the portable toilets where she curtsied, the bloodhound tracked Morgan back to the bridge and then over it before turning west on Ivy Road, where it lost her scent near the Foods of All Nations grocery store. Unbelievable as it seems, Cappuzzo says that 10 days after Morgan was there, the bloodhound would have been able to detect her scent even if she had gotten into a car.

Another possibility for the scent reaching Ivy Road, he explains, is "scent drift," caused by wind and rain that may have brought the molecules the dog was detecting some distance from where she actually last stood. Either way, Cappuzzo says, police are convinced that Morgan got into a vehicle somewhere on or near the bridge, and very likely did so willingly.

There would be no sign of her for more than three months until her remains were discovered on a remote farm in Albemarle County nearly 10 miles away.

"How did she get there?" asks Cappuzzo. "That's the key."

Anchorage Farm
In the days following the January 26, 2010 discovery of Morgan's body, which was found by a farmer as he drove a tractor checking fences in a secluded field on Anchorage Farm in southern Albemarle County, police repeatedly stressed the spot's isolation-- and their belief that only someone familiar with the terrain could have placed her there. At the January 25 tour, Morgan's parents' had their first opportunity to experience that remoteness.

Led by State Police, a caravan of media vehicles traveled the nine miles from the Copeley Road Bridge south along U.S. 29 to the Farm entrance, and then another mile up the gravel driveway. The vehicles passed within approximately 100 feet of the property's two dwellings and through a pair of gates immediately adjacent to the main house. Once through the gates, the caravan crossed a bumpy downward-sloping field in full view of the property's main residence for approximately a quarter mile, driving through waist-high grass and over pitted ground before coming to a stop atop an even steeper downward slope.

From there, media trailed Gil and Dan Harrington as they walked the remaining quarter mile, Gil sobbing audibly, following a tractor path into a stand of trees and out the other side, to the secluded field where Morgan was found-- a couple of acres enclosed by barbed-wire fencing on at least two sides and thick stands of trees on three.

Cappuzzo would not reveal investigators' theory about that night's most likely ingress path, but he admits that any perpetrator-- particularly transporting a drugged, injured, or already deceased victim-- would have been unusually bold to have driven via the route by which media arrived. The noise and lights of a vehicle might have been easily audible to residents of the two dwellings.

That leaves access from the Blandemar Farms subdivision, which requires crossing a creek and then climbing over one and possibly two barbed wire fences. It also leaves Red Hill Road, which forms the southern border of Anchorage Farm.

While media have not been permitted to explore the Farm, the Hook has spoken with one local resident whose curiosity pressed her to journey to the property after Harrington's disappearance. The resident says access from Red Hill Road isn't as difficult as one might expect. The self-motivated sleuth describes entering through a series of unlocked gates that would put a vehicle on the correct side (East) of the main waterway that traverses the property, a branch of the Hardware River. All other obstacles, the resident believes, could be handled even by a small two-wheel-drive vehicle.

If investigators know how Morgan got onto the property, they aren't saying. But Cappuzzo tailors his comments to residents of the Red Hill/North Garden area.

"We're extremely confident he's still in this community," says Cappuzzo, citing multiple behavioral specialists who specialize in geographic profiling. All, he said, agreed "this person has been here before."

Will the killer be caught?
Standing on the spot where Morgan's remains were discovered, Cappuzzo disputes any notion that the case has gone cold and that the killer will go unpunished-- and remain free to harm someone else.

"This case will be solved," he promises, though he admits to having "no timeline."

No timeline means the Harrington parents and Morgan's brother, Alex, will continue to suffer through the agony of their loss, compounded by the additional pain of not knowing what happened-- and who's responsible.

Dan Harrington recalls the case of Pat Collins-- a UVA grad student who vanished in 1986. In a series of feature-length stories in the mid- to late-1990s, local writer Barbara Nordin explored that case in depth-- pointing out ways that UVA police had bungled the investigation by ignoring leads, contaminating evidence, and initially suggesting that Collins had simply walked away from his life. No evidence of a voluntary departure ever emerged, and Collins' family-- including his retired police investigator stepfather-- attempted to get the case reopened. It remains unsolved, with Collins' fate, perhaps forever unknown.

The Harringtons, however, aren't making any claims of official bungling in Morgan's case. Dan Harrington notes that by the time he and Gil had their first meeting with law enforcement 36 hours after Morgan's disappearance, UVA police had already called in Virginia State Police, who took over the investigation.

Citing a "thorough" early search conducted on Sunday, October 18 of the area immediately around the Arena, Lt. Melissa Fielding with UVA Police says her colleagues quickly realized "this case was likely to take us off Grounds" and sought a law enforcement agency with greater resources. UVA police have continued to assist in the investigation, as have Charlottesville's and Albemarle's police departments.

While Dan Harrington says the parents recognize the hard work State Police investigators are putting in to the case, he says he does wish they'd be more forthcoming with information-- if only to generate more tips.

Dan Harrington says he and Gil will speak at a national convention for missing persons in Wisconsin next month, headlined by Beth Holloway, the mother of Natalie Holloway, who disappeared without a trace while vacationing in Aruba in 2005. Although Natalie is widely believed to have been killed by a Dutchman named Joran van der Sloot, who is currently imprisoned in Peru for allegedly murdering another woman on the fifth anniversary of Natalie's disappearance, van der Sloot has never been prosecuted in the Holloway case.

"You have to give something to get something back from the public," says Dan Harrington, explaining that his and Gil's regular public presentations are a way of keeping Morgan in the public's consciousness.

He also comments on a recent true crime show in which a young woman in a small town is murdered.

"That community was enraged and concerned that someone was out there," says Harrington. "I've never seen that in Charlottesville. I don't think that the community believes there's a murderer in their midst."

Already, more than a year has passed without a named suspect in the Harrington case, and Dan Harrington is realistic about the case, even as he expresses his concern that the unknown person, first implicated in the Fairfax rape, has increased his brutality to murder.

"The person who did this has hurt two people," warns the father. "There will be some other crime committed. It may not be this year, and it may not be next year, but there will be another one."

Earlysville4ever thank you for posting. I had not seen this new article. I followed Morgans case very faithfully for over a year. Her parents had a forum Find Morgan. It is still there but it is only for the family to post.

Blink has followed this case closely and several splinter groups from the original FM forum of which I was a member have formed. For some reason the new forums have been continuously affected with virus so I now staying away.

There were so many bloggers men and women working on finding justice for Morgan.

VSP is in charge of the investigation and held no press conferences and gave out no information. The information in the above article is "amazing". The very first time a lot of that information of Morgans "trail" has been revealed.

There has been so much criticizm of the secret way the investigation was handled. Perhaps there is a new person in charge and now this killer can be found.

Fingers are crossed. Justice for Morgan.

I went over to The Hook to read some of the comments and revisit old friends posting there.
Skyler is a gal that posted quite a bit about that night. She was at JPJ that fateful night dropping her son off for the concert. She writes beautifully. I hope you don't mind my sharing her words.

OMG -- Great article, again, Courtney -- this is award-winning journalism at its best -- and not just on the state level, but national level, as well. I absolutely understand that it had to have taken LE time to gather and vett the facts now presented here to the public for the first time -- however -- I have to echo others' thoughts on wishing this was released sooner --

Suz said it so well about dragging innocent people thru the ever-growing rumor mill --

but also releasing the info about how JPJ didn't just turn her away -- they warned her prior to going out -- Morgan bit her fingernails, the statement that her ticket was in pieces in the bottom of her purse makes sense, and especially if she were impaired and nervous about getting in, dropping her phone, which may have caused the back -- and the battery -- to fall out; the possibility of the camera being lost inside JPJ -- then someone out there has it --

Sorry, call me bad all you want, but I still do not give the so-called friends a pass -- advising her to try to sneak in thru the smoking area -- when they should have been getting their butts outta their seats and "walking" toward the door and speaking with persons in authority to resolve the issue instead of trying to sneak around -- maybe Morgan would be alive today. "Sneaking in the smoking area" is the thought of a 5th grader, not young people who are in college. Were they, too, perhaps impaired in some way and were afraid they'd get in some kind of trouble ? Then I have the picture of one of the more "press vocal" of "The nine" standing under the sign for the Morgan Harrington shuttle on the day of the Nov. search with her thumb stuck out mocking Morgan HH'g -- and how they were partying and chucking booze -- while they are under-aged -- under the 2-4-1 sign 2 freaking weeks later -- these are not the actions of heart-broken friends -- but of immature frenemies -- they can get all the tatoos they want -- hopefully it will remind them every single day of their lives friends in trouble come first -- always !!

And thank God for this article, Courtney, and since it is a day for revelation -- perhaps this post will stop the rampant speculation -- which I have done my best to clear up over and over -- I did not ever once see Morgan -- I am not LE's secret witness -- I was not put on a "gag-order" by LE -- because I don't know anything -- unfortunately -- The car I saw pulled over had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Morgan -- it was on the onramp to Interstate 64 -- approximately 5 miles and at least 10 mins. away from confirmed sightings of Morgan, if VSP's new timeframe is accurate; that car was "already" pulled over, stopped, the driver was out and was conversing with whomever was in the backseat -- and that "whomever" was NOT Morgan -- I've said this a dozen times.

I stopped posting publically because I began to doubt certain information being brought forth as "inside info" or "I know the truth of this," -- then when I learned that certain information was absolutely a bold-face lie I felt betrayed -- but also enlightened -- it was then I made the decision to stop making public posts, but to carry on Morgan's flame and fight for justice in a closed facebook family -- but there, we were also betrayed -- while these have been hard lessons for me to learn -- this terrible event has given me also beautiful lessons -- the dignity of the H's in the face of this horrendous event -- their taking this tragedy and bearing their souls to the public -- often to receive simply horrible public postings in response -- ie, "she got what she deserved" -- that horrible church protesting saying it was God's will their beloved child was brutally murdered -- I have gained life-long friends and forged wonderful relationships with others across this country, and even the globe. With Mr. Bass's full knowledge and permission, another dedicated Morgan supporter and I planted a perennial memorial on Anchorage Farm, with the hopes those plants will blossom and grow in the honor of her short life. The H's faced the property in the harsh cold of winter -- but in the spring and fall, it is breath-takingly beautiful --

Mr. Bass did not kill Morgan -- nor did his daughter, Jenny -- Jenny is an artist and made those type of "scroll" drawings and images many times in the past -- the house fire has absolutely nothing to do with Morgan -- it was a huge wind storm, which caused the flames to ignite and burn more rapidly than it would have under normal weather conditions -- that same storm caused Mr. Bass -- and the lawn company to be on his property that next day cleaning up storm debris -- were it not for that storm, Morgan may have never been found -- and the thing about Mr. Bass -- he is aware of all the negative publicity and all the rampant false speculation about he and his family -- but he is the father of daughters and at an age where you become reflective of your life -- he expressed to me more than once how his heart breaks for the Harringtons and the sadness he feels that Morgan did not have the chance at life - to make her mistakes and to live out her joys. He never once referred to Morgan as "she," but always respectfully used her name. He protects her field from the prying eyes of the public and the media. I like Mr. Bass.

I believe posters' hearts and intentions are of the highest, but I ask people before conjuring up wild scenarios and connections where none exist to think it thru to the next few steps and see if another scenario presented as the facts may as well be accurate --

sorry to be so long-winded, Court, but lastly I have to say to your first poster, "Really" -- I don't know what motivated you to post what you did -- whether you are lonely and wanted attention -- or whether you're just mean. But your words do not and cannot hurt the Harringtons. Mrs. H stated it so bluntly when she stated: our daughter is murdered, dead, gone from this earth; there is nothing more hurtful than that.

I believe the H's when they say their concern is for the next family, the next daughter or son, who may become this person's next victim -- their concern is for the next daughter or son on any college campus who believes they are safe -- they want to bring awareness of the dangers which exist to our nation's young people. Morgan's ashes have traveled to her beloved Tibet, where she had planned to go this past August; they are part of the foundation of a school for orphaned children, many of whose parents lost their lives to brutality -- just like Morgan --

So, Really, if your intent of your post was to have some attention drawn to you -- negative postings about Morgan and the H's is unnecessary -- you see, they care about you, as well -- about your life and your safety -- even in light of your disrespect to them and to Morgan.

Morgan had her warts -- but we all have warts and had them when we were college-aged -- but we will never know the woman this beautiful spirit would have grown into

and for the record, I am "NOT" the private sleuth Courtney interviewed who went onto AF thru the locked gates. I was there by invitation and permission.

I still believe in God, and I still pray God's peace for this family, and swift justice to the persons responsible for her murder !!!

This is the Facebook page open for MH. I have noticed Dan Harrington, Morgans father, posts over there frequently. But nothing on this arrest.

They are probably like us in a wait and see pattern.

I will be shocked if this is the same man that killed Morgan.

It just isn't fitting for me.

What connects Morgans maybe rape..we never heard..and murder is that there was a DNA match between the Fairfax rape and something found with Morgans remains. That too has never been revealed.

The East Coast Rapist seemed to be a hit and run type of guy. I don't think he killed any of his victims..

But Morgans killer killed her and took her 10 miles out of town to a remote farm.

It has never fit for me how Morgan and the Fairfax rape came together. So now I ponder this rapist.

My thoughts are everywhere.

Thank you Wrap. As I wrote above the Find Morgan were most of the posting was done closed and now is only things the family wishes to post.

Strange though that the blog most of us went to suddenly was effected with bad viruses. Who was doing that? I have stayed away. They have closed it down and have moved into a secret forum for invited members only.

I always wondered if the person responsible for Morgans death followed along with the posts on Find Morgan and then followed to the new blog.

If I hear anything new...I will let everybody know.

Police don't believe the ECR is connected to Morgan Harrington.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Police in Connecticut say they arrested a suspect in the 'East Coast Rapist' case on Friday. One sketch of the suspect looks similar to the suspect wanted in the Morgan Harrington murder case.

Similarities between the two sketches have many people wondering if the man accused of being the East Coast Rapist has any connection to Morgan Harrington's murder. Monday, Virginia State Police say the cases are not related.

Police in Connecticut arrested 39-year-old Aaron Thomas on Friday as a suspect in the 'East Coast Rapist' case. DNA links him to at least 17 rapes in four states since 1997.

Some say the sketch looks a lot like the suspect in Morgan Harrington's murder whose DNA is also linked a 2005 sexual assault in Fairfax County.

Virginia state police say the DNA in these two cases do not match the DNA in the ‘East Coast Rapist' case. All of the DNA was run through the same database and so far, the Harrington case is only linked to the Fairfax County sexual assault.

Another piece of information that had some thinking all these cases are related is that one attack happened in Prince William County Virginia in 2009 but Virginia State Police again say there is no connection between the ‘East Coast Rapist' case and the Morgan Harrington case.

================================
From the very beginning this guy just didn't fit.

This killer took Morgan from JPJ Arena and left her at a farm 10 miles away.

That was not the MO of the fellow they arrested. He was a hit and run type of guy.

I still believe the person tha killed Morgan..knew her.

Brilliant article. If only it was a fiction novel. Half of it is already here. He left his DNA, and his days are numbered. The Harringtons seem like the nicest people you would ever meet. It\\'s Not Fair

It could solve one of the highest profile murders in our area, it's already helped to find one serial killer. It's called familial DNA testing and Virginia could start using it by the end of the year.

Each time DNA evidence is collected at crime scenes police look for direct matches in state and national criminal databases. Now partial matches can be found, and that match could be the person you're looking for.

Less than two months ago, Dan and Gil Harrington visited their daughter's crime scene near Charlottesville for the first time. It's been more than a year since Morgan Harrington's body was found, but no one has been arrested for the crime. They hope a new technology in Virginia could solve the case.

Sign up for breaking news alerts from News 7 here >>>

“With familial DNA the yield may be low but we need all the help we can get in solving this,” says Dan Harrington.

Familial DNA testing takes evidence and tries to find partial matches to DNA left at the scene. Normally only exact matches can lead to suspects. But take a partial match in a database, and investigators can look at other family members.

“Parents will share half their DNA with their children,” says Brad Jenkins with the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. “So if you find a DNA profile that’s very similar that may suggest it came from one of their family members.”

The testing has already led to the capture of the suspected Grim Sleeper serial killer in Los Angeles. California and Colorado are the only two states to use familial DNA. The Virginia Crime Commission says the commonwealth can too, without any new laws. Martinsville delegate Ward Armstrong is on the commission.

“The technology is amazing,” he says. “If we can use it for a legit purpose, in this case fighting crime, absolutely we should do it.”

The Department of Forensic Science is testing the software in Richmond. Scientists hope to be able to use it by the end of the year and Morgan Harrington's murder might be one of the first cases it helps solve.

“The technology exists, let’s start using it,” says Gil Harrington. “Lets’ put it in the hands of law enforcement in this state.”

The technology comes with concerns over privacy. the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU says using partial hits to get DNA samples is an invasion of privacy. Lawmakers in Richmond disagree. They say it would be a minimal invasion to possibly be the only thing to solve a crime.

I sure hope the Familial DNA will be put in place in VA. Morgan's killer needs to be caught and it could save more lives. Look what it did out here in Los Angeles, it took the 'Grim Sleeper' off the streets and most likely saved many lives. It can't be put in place in VA soon enough.

Yes. never knew many details till reading here. Saw her father on Nancy Grace many times. CBS did interviews with her mom and dad during the search. Praying that Morgans killer will be found during mom and dads lifetime. I feel it will. They have the best evidence. Just a matter of time.

The governor of Virginia has okayed familial dna testing. I hope it yields something in Morgan's case.

The story on The Hook:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
in issue #1013

DNA advance: Harrington's parents pleased by familial approval by Courteney Stuart

Four months after the parents of murdered Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington urged the Virginia Crime Commission to allow familial DNA searches to be conducted in unsolved homicides, the state is ready to begin using the tool, Governor Bob McDonnell announced Monday, March 21

"I think this is going to be very valuable," says Morgan's father, Dan Harrington, "not only in Morgan's case, but in other unsolved crimes throughout the state."

The Harrington case certainly seems tailor-made for the technology. Twenty-year-old Harrington disappeared from outside UVA's John Paul Jones Arena during a Metallica concert on October 17, 2009. Her remains were discovered more than three months later on an Albemarle County farm, and unidentified DNA recovered in the case matches DNA left on the victim of a 2005 rape in Fairfax.

Unlike a traditional DNA search, which looks for an exact match within the state's DNA databank, a familial DNA search looks for matches that suggest an immediate family relationship to help police home in on a suspect. It's how California investigators recently caught two alleged predators. Lonnie David Franklin Jr., known as the Grim Sleeper, is an alleged serial killer charged with slaying at least 10 women over 25 years. His arrest last summer came after investigators linked him to a DNA sample from his son-- a felon whose DNA was in California's databank. Earlier this month, California investigators had another familial DNA success with the arrest of a long-sought suspect in a 2008 robbery and sexual assault.

With McDonnell's announcement, Virginia becomes the third state to embrace familial searches, joining Colorado and California. Following the recent arrest of Aaron H. Thomas, the man believed to be the East Coast Rapist, Prince William Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert echoed the Harringtons' plea for wider use of the technology.

"If it had been available, this case would have been solved in '07," said Ebert, adding that several females, including three teenage girls Thomas allegedly abducted and raped in 2009 in Prince William, might have been spared.

The new guidelines for familial DNA searching issued by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science address privacy concerns raised by groups including the ACLU, and suggest that the tool will be used only in the most serious unsolved crimes in which there is an unidentified DNA sample believed to belong to the perpetrator.

According to the guidelines, the lead investigating agency must request the search, and the Commonwealth's Attorney for the jurisdiction in which the crime occurred must confirm that use of the search would be appropriate.

So will the Harrington case be Virginia's first familial DNA search? It seems likely, even as various enforcement personnel remain vague in their responses.

Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller says that the Department of Forensic Science is "aware of our interest," while the Department's Pete Marone says only, "We are progressing."

The first step in a familial search is running a profile through the computerized databank, which could produce as many as 100 possible matches, Marone explains. The time-consuming and labor-intensive piece comes next, as scientists conduct additional tests on each sample to further narrow the list. Marone says each search will likely cost about $6,000, and he believes the department can conduct about one such search per month without additional staff.

While the development is good news to the Harringtons and others who have pushed for the technology's acceptance, Marone says the public won't likely hear if there is a match until after an arrest occurs-- and he cautions that there are no guarantees that the search will turn up any leads.

"It's a longshot," he says, "but when you don't have any other shots left, it looks pretty good."

Well this should be interesting. I wonder if it will match the theory I have always had. Time will tell.

I have had Morgan in my thoughts all afternoon. Then I see this posting.

Interesting.
