Adji Desir - Missing Child To Be Featured On Cover of People’s Magazine
Posted on November 11th, 2009 by Jan Barrett
.I have been trying my best to keep as many of the missing children in the news as I possibly can so you can imagine how happy I was to see one the children I keep naming will be added on the front cover of the popular People’s Magazine along with five other missing children.
Adji Desir has been missing since January 10, 2009 and no one even hears his name in the news anymore. According to naplesnews.com the cover with the title “Vanished without a Trace” will feature the list of missing children from this year. They claim it was inspired by the Jaycee Dugard case that was missing for 18 years and finally found after all this time.
Adji Desir was 6 years old when he disappeared while visiting with his grandmother in Farm Workers Village in Immokalee, Fla. while his mother was at work. Around 5:15 that evening he went outside to play with some friends and while playing with friends he disappeared before they realized it. There are no witnesses whatsoever as to what happened to him. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with thin yellow stripes, blue shorts with pink flamingos going down the sides and grey and black sneakers. Adji is also developmentally disabled and has the functions on a level of a 2 year old and can only speak about five words of English. He does recognize his name though when it is called out.
He is described at the time he disappeared as being a black male and 3 ft tall and weighing only 45 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. He had a birthday on October 15 and this child should have been home celebrating it with his family. My heart goes out to his family. I can only imagine what hell they have been going through not knowing where he is or what happened to him.
Adji’s photo is also being featured on national direct mail advertising fliers that are being delivered to 75 million homes across America from November 8 through December 13.
Anyone that knows anything at all concerning Adji’s whereabouts PLEASE call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 793-9300 or if you want to make an anonymous call you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477). Keeping this child’s name in print could possibly bring attention to someone that might see him just like keeping the others that are missing in print as well. It certainly can’t hurt so once again I ask you all to join me in saying a prayer for all these children, some not with us any longer and some that are out there lost somewhere. We need to get them home. Some on the list include Caylee Anthony, Adji Desir, Haleigh Cummings, Somer Thompson, Elizabeth Olten, Masaraha Ross, Alex Mercado and Rebecca Marie Allen, Sandra Cantu and Shaniya Nicole Davis. And there are others as well. My prayers are with them all. God bless them all and all of you as well.

Yes, it is a shame that this little boy went relatively unnoticed by the media. It seems that if you're not a cute little white girl, you're quickly forgotten. I think that's why his case has touched me as much as it has. As a country, we've let him down; for no good reason. He needs us more than most if only because of his disability. Just breaks my heart. I hope that by spotlighting him, People magazine will jog someone's memory to lead to new clues, or maybe his picture will cause someone to realize he's living right next door. One can only hope!

REWARD
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Adji Desir.
Individuals with information concerning this case should take no action themselves, but instead immediately contact the Collier County, Florida Sheriff's Office at 1-239-793-9300, the FBI's toll-free hotline at 1-866-838-1153, or the nearest FBI Office or local law enforcement agency. For any possible sighting outside the United States, contact the nearest United States Embassy or Consulate.
Tips have nearly dried up.
But in the ongoing search for Adji Desir, Collier County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ken Becker said hope remains for bringing home the missing Immokalee boy.
The breakthroughs in the Jaycee Dugard, Shawn Hornbeck and Elizabeth Smart cases in the last few years are proof.
“It’s just further evidence that there’s still hope out there that even long-term missing children can be reunited with their family,” said Becker at a press conference Thursday, which coincided with Adji’s seventh birthday. “And that’s our hope with this case.”
Adji was last seen playing outside of his grandmother’s house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10, while his mother was at work.
As to what may have happened to the developmentally-challenged boy, Becker said that remains unknown.
“I have no idea what happened to Adji,” he said. “I wish I did so we could focus on one direction or the other. At this point we don’t know if it’s a case where Adji walked off and got lost, or Adji got picked up by somebody and taken away from Farm Workers Village.”
And as time goes on, Becker said authorities are more and more dependent on assistance from the public to try to crack the case.
That’s why Collier officials said the search for Adji would extend to the mailboxes of millions of residents across the United States.
Adji’s photo will be featured on national direct-mail advertising fliers to be distributed to 75 million homes across the United States from Nov. 8 through Dec. 13.
“We’re hoping with those flyers and this conference today, that we can remind people that they may have the bit of information that may reunite Adji with his mother, stepfather and his new baby sister,” said Becker.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has partnered with Valassis, one of the nation’s leading media and marketing services companies, and the U.S. Postal Service in distributing the fliers as part of Valassis’ Have You Seen Me? picture program.
Carleen Coelho, who coordinates the Missing Child program for Valassis, said that the company would also be featuring Adji in their freestanding newspaper inserts.
“It’s unprecedented,” said Coelho. “He’s going to be featured across a very broad national network.”
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children president and CEO Ernie Allen said the nonprofit pushes very hard to keep these cases alive — especially in a case like Adji’s.
“I firmly believe that somebody knows where Adji is and that somebody knows what happened to him,” said Allen.
He added that a picture is the most important tool authorities have in the search for a missing child.
Nine out of every 10 American households is expected to get a flier/newspaper insert, said Allen.
“Virtually every home in America will receive Adji’s information,” Allen said. “Our hope is that somebody out there has seen him.”
The fliers will be distributed weekly by region, starting in the Northeast on Nov. 8. They are scheduled to arrive in Florida mailboxes the week of Nov. 15.
The search for Adji and the other children who have gone missing from Collier County over the years won’t end until they’re found, Becker said.
“I’m always confident that they will come home some day,” he said.
