Shaniya Davis funeral a bad day: Shaniya Davis funeral attended by many
November 21, 10:17 AMDavidson County Headlines ExaminerDavie Cook
Shaniya Davis's funeral will be open to the public, which means that many individuals sadded and horrified by Shaniya Davis's death will be able to pay their respects to the 5 year old and her father, Bradley Lockhart.
The Shaniya Davis funeral is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Manna Church located at 5117 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Although we are about 9 1/2 hours away from the funeral (almost 600 miles), a few Nashville citizens are likely planning to make the trip.
Do you think the funeral should be public, or do you think it should be a private fanily event? Given the family involvement of her death - her own mother was behind her disappearance after all - I think it is completely appropriate that there will be a public funeral. Shaniya Davis needs to look down from heaven and know that she was loved very much by the public and general and that no one supported her death.
Mario Andrette McNeil has been charged with the murder of Shaniya Davis. He was last seen with the young girl on a hotel surveillance camera. He was carrying her and I have not been able to find a report that indicates whether Shaniya was alive or dead when filmed.
Shaniya's body was found alongside a North Carolina highway. Autopsy reports indicate that she was raped and murdered the same day she disapeared. Her cause of death was asphyxiation.
Shanyia Davis's funeral will be very, very sad. The bright side to the story is that the alleged killer has been located and charged and justice will be served.

Shaniya Davis' funeral scheduled for Sunday
November 21, 12:27 PM

Funeral services for 5-year-old Shaniya Nicole Davis will be held Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Manna Church located at 5117 Cliffdale Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28314 .
Hundreds maybe even thousands of mourners are expect to attend and show their love and respect to this beautiful little girl, whose life was stolen much too soon.
In the process of paying your respects, please keep in mind that this family is going through an insurmountable amount of pain. Shaniya's death alone would be enough, by itself, to drop any adult to their knees, combine that with the fact that she was stolen from her loving family, raped and then murdered and you realize that this family is going through the most difficult loss that they will ever have to endure in their lifetime.
This is where funeral etiquette comes into play. Although the family has chosen to allow the public to say goodbye to Shaniya and mourn her loss, please be respectful of her family’s loss and pain.
Everyone attending Shaniya’s service needs remember a few things:
* This is a time for saying goodbye to Shaniya, for celebrating her short life and for sending her to heaven with love. This is not the time to demand the death penalty, nor is it the time to scream, yell or basically make a fool of yourself. BE RESPECTFUL to the family and Shaniya.
* Yes, everyone is angry and that anger does need an outlet, it does need to be dealt with …in a healthy way. You can speak out against child abuse, you can speak out and demand changes to CPS, and you can demand the death Penalty, after the funeral!
* During the funeral you are there to show your love and support to this family who has lost this beloved child and although the entire community, maybe the entire country feels her loss, it is nothing compared to what Shaniya’s family is going through.
* When you attend Shaniya’s funeral be a rock for her family, be a wall of support and love for them during this horrific time. Show them how Shaniya has touched your life and moved you; show them all the love you feel in your heart. They will need it.

Excuse me, but this family ALLOWED their five year old daughter to stay in a trailer filled with feces, with a "mother" who was abusing drugs and had not a care in the world for Shaniya. So, while I agree that the funeral is NOT the place to basically "raise hell", I would NOT be going to the funeral to "moarn the loss of Shaniya WITH the family." I would be going to moarn the loss of Shaniya. Period!
And, what is this about an insurmountable amount of pain the family is suffering? Sorry, but bullshit! They all did it to themselves by allowing that poor little girl to go to that horrific and disgusting trailer with that despicable piece of trash "mother".
I will tell you who suffered an insurmountable amount of pain and torture and that is little Shaniya Davis, an innocent five year old that deserved NONE of this!!
I have Zero respect for her father, her aunt or her "mother." ZERO!!!!!!

Im with you Wrap -they all failed this child. I wouldnt have let them watch my canary let alone a child in that filthy atmosphere. The responsible or so called responsible people in this childs life are the ones that failed her the most. Just a few minutes of checking out the living conditions and asking around about what was going on there would have done it and kept Shaniya
home. No, everyone does NOT deserve a second chance.

The tributes are great, nice job. And I do agree with letting the public attend the services. At least that way people who truly cared about her are there. The saddest part for me is that strangers cared more for her then her own family did :(

Gonna be awhile before I can watch them. Thanks, Linda Marie and Sassy, in advance.
This case is one that really got to me big time, kept me awake. I think it got to a lot of people. Not that they all don't and I do not mean to imply that at all, but there are those ones that for whatever reason, stay with you and for me, this is one of them.

Honestly, he stood up and said that God did "THIS" for a reason. I am betting all the news media will play this back again and again. He said NOT one thing about his daughter and how he will remember her.

I know, I was completely outraged!! I bet he didn't even talk for two minutes. Now, his sister got up there and read a poem about Shaniya. I think they were very, very close. Her half brother got up there, tried to talk and just broke down..couldn't talk at all. But the dad was not shedding one tear. He acted like he was a preahcer up there!!

Remember the crying episode (NG) when he was looking to the sky, hands raised...didn't I hear him ask "God why did you do this to ME?"?

He really makes me ultra angry!! Even looking at him pisses me off! He goes and has all these kids from all these women and doesn't take care of them, cause, don't you know..he is always on the road..getting some other gal knocked up!!
I have literally NO respect for him and do not pity him at all. In fact, I pray LE throws the book at him. He made the decision to allow that despicable excuse for a mother take her. I blame him in a domino-like effect, as Artgal said earlier.

Watch Shaniya Davis funeral replay (video and photo slideshow)
November 22, 9:39 PM
The funeral for Shaniya Davis was held today at 3:00 p.m. You can watch the replay of the service here:
The funeral was attended by many who didn’t know Shaniya and was streamed live across the Internet. Held at the Manna Church, located at 5117 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the funeral was attended by many who came to say good-bye to the five year old girl who touched the nation with her life.
Shaniya’s Aunt Carey read a poem that she had written titled My Life with Shaniya. The poem recounted her moments spent with Shaniya throughout her first five years of life. Shaniya’s Aunt Carey had served as a mother figure to Shaniya and had taught Shaniya her ABC’s, how to tie her shoes, and other tasks. Carey Lockhart-Davis’ grief was evident as she continued to regain her composure while reciting the poem for the girl whom she evidently loved tremendously.
Bradley Lockhart spoke and addressed those in attendance regarding taking the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to those in the community. He stated that there are people who don’t know how to change and need the help of others. He hoped that the outreach would prevent other tragedies such as Shaniya’s from occurring.
Not everyone could speak today, however. Shaniya’s brother stood to speak but was overcome by grief and had to be seated. The pastor spoke from the second book of Corinthians and discussed how we are spirits passing through earth for a brief time. He discussed how to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and how one day, Shaniya will be reunited with her family and loved ones.
The funeral was scheduled and planned to be a homecoming celebration, one that welcomes Shaniya Davis into her Heavenly Father’s arms where she would feel no more sorrow or pain.

Shaniya Davis Funeral Video: Father Bradley Lockhart Said God "Did This for a Reason"

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (CBS/AP) More than 2000 people joined Shaniya Davis' father, Bradley Lockhart, Sunday, at an emotional funeral for the North Carolina 5-year-old, who police say was raped, murdered, then thrown in a pile of trash bags and deer carcasses like she was someone's garbage.

PICTURES: Shaniya Davis' Vigil
"Don't let God's words and don't let his actions get you down," Lockhart told the packed congregation. "He did this for a reason."
Police say Mario Andrette McNeill, an associate of Shaniya Davis' mother, Antoinette Davis, raped and murdered the young girl the same day her mother reported her missing Nov. 10. McNeill turned himself in to police two days after he was seen on a horrifying hotel surveillance video carrying Shaniya Davis down a hall and towards an elevator.
He has been charged with first degree murder, first degree rape of a child and kidnapping.
Police also believe Antoinette Davis sold her daughter as a sex slave to McNeill. She has been charged with human trafficking. It's not yet clear how the two know each other.
Shaniya Davis' body was found Nov. 16, nearly a week after she was reported missing.
On Sunday, at the edge of his daughter's casket, Lockhart said, "Shaniya, Daddy love you honey. And I know you're gonna' be waiting for me … I'll see you when I get there."
White doves were released during a graveside service.
Lockhart urged the 1,500 crowded into Manna Church and another 500 watching the service from an adjacent building to help the community's needy, according to press reports.

I am sorry, I beg to disagree, God, the loving God from whichever religion that you practice is a loving God, HE did not do this to Shaniya. The breakdown of her family did this to her.... Shaniya falling thru the cracks did this, her EVIL mother did this to her.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- NBA star Shaquille O'Neal paid for 5-year-old Shaniya Davis' funeral.
O'Neal plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. A spokesperson for the team told the Fayetteville Observer Shaq paid for Sunday's service, which was held in Fayetteville and attended by thousands.
The funeral reportedly averaged about $4,500.
The service was held at the Manna Church. At one point, more than a hundred looked through the windows of the church door because they couldn't get in.
Bradley Lockhart, Shaniya's father, was not scheduled to speak but got up and encouraged the community to not get angry about the situation.
Shaniya disappeared from her home on November 10, and her body was found days later in a wooded area just south of Sanford.
