Authorities have arrested two Dawsonville men in the death of an Effingham County woman who was in the area to visit her children for the holidays.

Authorities are seeking murder warrants for Jesse James Kilgore, 40, of Dawsonville in the death of Jennifer West Budrawich.

Kilgore is the father of one of her children and is Jennifer Budrawich's stepfather, according to authorities.

Benjamin Kelly Mullinax, 27, of Dawsonville has been booked on charges he tampered with evidence.

The body of 21-year-old Budrawich was found Sunday afternoon in a river in western Dawson County, according to authorities.

Budrawich's body was found more than 24 hours after a frantic 911 call came into Dawson County dispatch, according to Dawson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Tony Wooten.

A woman's voice can be heard on the recording asking, "Why are you shooting us? Why did you bring me down here to the river?"

The 911 call was received by authorities at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, which launched an investigation into the disappearance of Budrawich and her husband.

Paul Budrawich, Jennifer Budrawich's husband, still is missing. He is described as being in his early 30s and considered to be in extreme danger. Today, authorities will continue searching for Paul Budrawich where his wife's body was found.

The Budrawichs were in town to visit her children for the holidays. The couple was scheduled to visit the children around 11 a.m. that day and did not show, which was unlike them, said Wooten.

The couple's car was found in the parking lot of the IGA grocery store in neighboring Pickens County around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities have reviewed video surveillance from nearby businesses. Wooten said investigators have determined the Budrawichs were not in the vehicle when it was left at the shopping center.

Jennifer's mother is still married to Jesse Kilgore.

Will someone tell me what the heck this case is about?
The victim was only 22 and has three children and one is from her step-father? Was he her stepfather when she had the child or did he marry her mother later? The article I read wasnt clear about when the stepfather married her mother. This is one weird case.

Officials in Dawson County found a second body in the Amicalola River Monday morning believed to be the husband of a woman found nearby on Sunday. Deputies arrested the woman's stepfather Sunday in connection with her slaying.

Authorities discovered the body they suspect is Paul Budrawich after a search along Amicalola River Road. The second body was about 500 yards from where the body of Jennifer Budrawich was found Sunday, according to deputies.

Video of two men abandoning the Budrawich's car led them to Kilgore, according to investigators.

Officials also charged 27-year-old Benjamin Kelly Mullinax with tampering with evidence.

Investigators said Jennifer and Paul Budrawich went to Dawson County Friday to visit her children, who are in the custody of relatives.

Jennifer and Paul Budrawich traveled to Dawson County in a black late 80s model Trans Am or Firebird on Friday. They were in town to visit one of Jennifer Budrawich’s children at a family member’s Dawson residence for Christmas. Following that visit, the couple stayed at a motel in nearby Jasper for the night. The couple was scheduled to have visitation with Budrawich’s other two children at the residence of a family friend in Pickens County at 11 a.m. Saturday. The couple never showed for that appointment, which was unusual, Wooten said, since the couple visited the children, all under age 4, about every other week.

However, at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, the Dawson County 9-1-1 center received a call from a female, later determined to be Budrawich. On that call, which Wooten described as “chilling,” Budrawich is heard asking, “Why are you shooting us?”

“Please don’t kill me,” she’s heard screaming. “I’ve got my babies.”

Later in the call, Budrawich asks, “Why did you bring me down here to the river?”

Three voices can be heard on the tape. One, a male voice, says, “I’m gonna kill both of ya.”

“Please don’t do this,” Budrawich cries. … “I want to live.”

From that call, made from Budrawich’s cell phone, authorities were able to trace the signal to a Verizon tower in northwest Dawson County.

A search on ground and air began Saturday and lasted until nightfall. It continued Sunday until dark and resumed Monday up until Paul Budrawich’s body was located.

Jennifer Budrawich’s family lives in Dawson County, while her husband’s family is from Effingham County. The couple was married less than a year. Each of Jennifer Budrawich’s children are safe, authorities said.

Post by Nama Mon Dec 21, 2009 5:05 pm

Kilgore is Jennifer Budrawich’s stepfather and the father of one of her three young children. Kilgore is now married to Jennifer Budrawich’s mother, authorities said.

Paul Budrawich’s body was pulled from the river this morning. He was 35 years old.

Authorities say Kilgore shot the couple and dragged their bodies into the river Saturday after he arranged a meeting with them at the Six Mile Creek canoe put-in off Amicalola Church Road.

Mullinax, according to authorities, was present at the time of the shootings. He is Kilgore’s nephew.

Mullinax was originally booked on charges he tampered with evidence. The charges against him were upgraded to murder Monday afternoon.

Both Mullinax and Kilgore said in court that they had spoken with representation from the Dawson County Public Defender’s office.

Kilgore said he was represented by Senior Assistant Public Defender Rob McNeill.

Kilgore and Mullinax are scheduled to appear before a Dawson County Superior Court judge for a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Jan. 19.

The Budrawichs were in town for the holidays to visit her children, who live with relatives in Dawson and Pickens counties.

Jennifer Budrawich’s Dec. 15 post on the social networking site myspace.com states she was thinking "about my babies. I miss them so much."

Kilgore, who spent time in prison on a felony theft conviction, is no stranger to Dawson County authorities.

He was one of three Dawsonville men arrested in June when authorities recovered thousands of dollars of stolen goods taken earlier in the year from two homes in Dawson County.

Kilgore, his son Jessie Archie Kilgore, 19, and James Adam Rogers, 30, are accused of taking household fixtures, appliances and furniture to furnish a home the elder Kilgore was building in western Dawson County.

All three were indicted in September on numerous theft charges.

What comes to my mind as I have been reading about this case is......Jennifer has 3 children at 22 years of age and none of them live with her, but she misses her babies. The father of one of her children is a man that's married to her mother. Jennifer married a man 13 years her senior. These facts are problematic. I think many, many bad decisions by many many people led to this tragedy. Does anyone ever think about the consequences of their actions anymore? Look before you leap...... THINK! I sure hope we get more on the marriage of Jennifer's mother to Kilgore.

No talk of a motive yet? What an awful confusing crime. Jennifer had a child with her step father. But the child came before the "step father" part. Correct?

Another thing, Jennifer shouldn't have been having sex with her stepfather and if he wasn't her stepfather when their child was conceived, then her mother should have NOT married him after the fact. There is something damn sick about a mother and daughter sleeping with the same guy.
Per CNN......Jennifer's 4 year old is Kilgore's child and Jennifer also has a 2 year old and a 10 month old. Something is very wrong with this story.

Ill take it. Mostly because there are children involved
I call them low-lifes. I dont care what they do in their own demented lives but WHY do they bring innocent children into this world time after time that someone else has to take care of ? So the child of Jessie "James" Kilkore is his child and also his step=grandchild too. Lovely.

In a weird twist, Kilgore is also the father of one of Jennifer's children. We're not sure if that was born from a consensual relationship or something more nefarious.

I'm damned glad I'm not the only one confused.

Is it possible the step father raped her? And Kilgore? I am really trying to give this girl the benefit of the doubt but it's not easy.

I find the facebook entry by her friend pretty telling. Was she out partying all the time?

Is her youngest child from her now dead 35 year old husband? WTF

It's a bizarre double murder case that has much of North Georgia and many people on the web buzzing.

Maybe that's because one of the two suspects is:
1) the stepfather of a victim
2) was once her uncle by marriage and
3) fathered a child by her.

That suspect, 40-year-old Jesse James Kilgore, said very little when he appeared before a Dawson County Magistrate Judge late Monday afternoon.

When the magistrate asked Kilgore if he could speak, understand, read and write English, Kilgore replied, "Uh, read and write not too good, but I understand it."

Post by Nama Tue Dec 22, 2009 9:27 pm

An Effingham County couple whose bodies were found in the Amicalola River in Dawson County were supposed to be visiting their three children over the weekend, and it was supposed to be their last visit before reclaiming custody, according to a family member.

The bodies of Paul and Jennifer Budrawich were found Sunday and Monday several hundred yards apart in the river by law enforcement authorities.

The Dawson County Sheriff’s Department has charged Jennifer Budrawich’s stepfather, Jesse James Kilgore, 40, of Dawsonville for murder in the deaths of the couple.

Kilgore’s nephew, Benjamin Kelly Mullinax, 27, also of Dawsonville, was arrested and charged with murder. Both men also are charged with two counts of tampering with evidence.

Bond was denied for Kilgore and Mullinax on Monday afternoon.

Paul and Jennifer Budrawich left their McCall Road home on Friday on their way to Dawsonville and Jasper to visit their three children. Kilgore is the father one of Jennifer Budrawich’s sons, and the Budrawiches have two sons.

"They were good people," said Debra Harris, Paul Budrawich’s sister. "They made a mistake, but they loved their children and were getting them back. The children don’t understand; they’re very young." ~What mistake did they make....don't understand? BJ~

The murder has been especially hard on the family. Harris said her mother is very upset and that her uncle had to be taken to the hospital after suffering a heart attack caused by the stress of the tragedy.

"The children were their life," Harris said. "They fought for the life of their children, even in their last moments, because that’s how much they loved each other. We were the only family she had here.

"The family is having a hard time; they really need to find peace. I want everyone to remember my brother and his wife for who they were. Every breath they took was for their children. They were so excited to be getting those kids back."

Funeral arrangements for Paul and Jennifer Budrawich are still pending, and the family is asking for donations for the funeral and for their three sons. The Budrawiches did not have insurance.

Harris said they were in the process of setting up a fund at BB&T Bank and that donations could be directed either there or to Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton.

Authorities found the couple’s bodies a day after receiving a frantic 911 call from a woman, assumed to be Jennifer Budrawich. On the call, a woman’s voice could be heard asking someone, "Why are you shooting us? Why did you bring me down here to the river?"

"I just thank God the 911 call was made," Harris said. "At least they can go home."

Kilgore and Mullinax are scheduled to appear before a Dawson County Superior Court judge for a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. Jan. 19.

Post by Nama Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:16 am

A weekend trip to north Georgia started with hope and excitement for Jennifer and Paul Budrawich.

It ended in terror and heartbreak.

The Effingham County couple left home before dawn Friday on the familiar drive north, eager to celebrate an early Christmas with their most precious of gifts — three young boys.

The couple had lost custody of the children several months back, explained Debbie Harris of Rincon, sister of Paul Budrawich.

Married just about a year, Paul and Jennifer Budrawich had turned their lives around during that time period and were ready to become full-time parents again, Harris said.

“People think when you lose your children to DFCS it’s for some bad reason,” Harris said. “That was not the case. They were good people.”

Harris said her brother and sister-in-law’s focus in life was the return of the much-loved children.

“They loved those kids,” she said. “They learned from their mistakes and did everything they were told to get them back.”

Getting the children back home was going to happen soon, she added.

“They were meeting all their requirements. They took parenting classes and child-proofed everything in the house.”

Paul and Jennifer Budrawich didn’t have much in the way of money, Harris said, putting everything they could earn toward their children.

The frequent, long drives to see the children were costly, but it meant the world to them, she said.

“They didn’t have a new car — they drove a Firebird, and they had to stay in a hotel,” she said.

Jennifer Budrawich worked part-time at Burger King in Springfield, while Paul Budrawich recently had gone back to work at Savannah Powder Coat in Rincon.

The dreams the Budrawiches had of making their family whole again ended abruptly sometime Saturday with a gunshot.

The tears are flowing and hard to stop for Harris as she talks about her brother and sister-in-law and what they lost.

“My brother was a loner until he met her,” Harris said. “He never gave hugs or said 'I love you.’

“She made an impact on him. He’d say 'I love you’ now. We took Jennifer in, she was like one of the family.”

Harris said her brother’s last moments were spent trying to take care of his wife.

“He was a fighter and died fighting,” Harris said.

Uncertain future

Harris said she is worried about the children, now that her brother is gone.

Paul Budrawich’s children with Jennifer Budrawich, Carson and Little Paul, are being cared for by a cousin in Pickens County, Harris said.

Information on the location of Jennifer Budrawich’s child was not available.

“We really need donations for the children,” Harris said. “And please pray for us and Jennifer’s family.”

Justice for Paul & Jennifer Budrawich/ Jesse James Kilgore, 40, was given two life sentences without the possibility of parole/ Benjamen Kelly Mullinax was given two consecutive life sentences and will be eligible for parole in 30 years Paul

Paul Budrawich was born Aug. 30, 1974, in Savannah.

He and his loving wife, Jennifer, attended Acts III Church in Rincon.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Budrawich of Springfield; one brother, Steve Budrawich of Macon; sisters Lisa Budrawich of California, Veronica O'Neal of Macon, Karen Austin of Warner Robins, Julie (Dennis) Woods of Guyton and Debbie (Dave) of Rincon. He is also survived by three sons; Lil Paul, Carson and stepson Alex.

He loved his boys equally. He was a wonderful father, devoted husband, caring brother and loving son. He has many cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. One uncle, Willie Hammond, was like a dad to him.

He had such a big heart and was loved by all. You could see his love for Jennifer and his sons in everything he did for them. They were his life and reason for living.

He died showing just how strong his love and devotion was to her (Jennifer) and their precious babies. At that moment, God's wings were encamped around them both and carried them to heaven.

The family is accepting donations for the funeral and their children.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home in Guyton.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Ben Wages Chapel of Riggs Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery.

It's a bizarre double murder case that has much of North Georgia and many people on the web buzzing.

Maybe that's because one of the two suspects is the stepfather of a victim, was once her uncle by marriage and fathered a child by her.

That suspect, 40-year-old Jesse James Kilgore, said very little when he appeared before a Dawson County Magistrate Judge late Monday afternoon.

Well welcome2 to victims heartland carroll1. Is your caps lock stuck? Because posting in all caps is the same as yelling and will not be tolerated here. Jennifer was a victim and I am so sorry she lead such a tough life. We only blog on what the media reports so if you have a beef or want to correct something the reporter always leaves a link on how to reach them. VH is not the place to correct the media as I doubt they come here and read our post.

No one on this board ever said that Jennifer deserved to be killed. I was the one that said her mother's name was Kathleen and I read that in a news article; I'll correct it. Our hearts go out to Jennifer's and Paul's children and their families and we all hope that the two accused of their murder's are strung up. This is a crime blog and we discuss crimes of this nature here; that's just what we do, but no respect is meant toward Jennifer. One thing I am curious about is why, after Kilgore molesting Jennifer for years, would her mother marry the man? You have to admit that marrying the man who raped your daughter for years is not what most mother's would do.

Hi Carroll1. You have to understand, as BJ stated, we only go by what the media tells us.

It's quite apparent you are completely pissed off and I am sorry that we may have gotten the facts misconstrued. I would really love it if you could calm down long enough to explain what is really going on and do so without typing IN ALL CAPS.

The media can be wrong. We all know that. But it IS in the media so if you know the truth, feel free to speak it.

i am sorry for the caps i did'nt pay it any mind, ok i did'nt mean that u were saying something wrong it's just my family(paul's) is taking this so hard, i don't know where to begin, her mother's name is debra kilgore, i personally think debra kilgore is really messed up in the head, like it was just said most mothers would not marry the man that has raped and molested her daughter for years, but she did, i did'nt mean for it to sound like i meant that anyone here said jen deserved to b killed, jesse has threatned paul andjen in the past, and they were going to be getting all 3 boys bak, news years eve weekend. and jesse did not want to lose the oldest boy, and here months ago paul had a car towed up to jesse's when him and jen stayed there a few weeks, well there was over 5,000.00 in parts stripped off that car which was pauls. paul filed theft charges against jesse and jesse was already on $35,000 property bond for some house thefts he his son and nephew i think was all involved with it. well jesse did'nt like it when paul filed the charges and then on top of that like i said paul and jen was getting the three boys back. so if u think about it there was 2 reasons there for jesse's motive. they waved their rights to the hearing a week ago so it now goes to the grand jury in march. oh jen's mama and real dad was nevered married, we are seeking the death penalty, and hope like hell we get it. it had to be planned, i mean he shot them and threw them in the river.

Thank goodness Jennifer had the good sense to make that 911 call and let LE know that she had been taken to the river. Otherwise they may have never found her body or charged anyone with the two murders. We are all hoping, along with you, that justice is served and Kilgore and Mullinax fry. Stay strong! Jennifer's mother needs some serious help! How is she dealing with the murders? Is she still with Kilgore and supporting him?
