Cost to search for Patrick Borally will likely not be passed onto his family

By: Joe Pagonakis, newsnet5.com
RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio - Richmond Heights Police Chief Gene Rowe expressed his relief that Patrick Borally, 41, was found alive and well in Canada Sunday night.

"Obviously, having a business in Richmond Heights, and knowing the family, we're happy it had the outcome that it did," said Rowe.

The chief and the Cleveland FBI acknowledged the search for Borally took plenty of resources, however, Chief Rowe told NewsChannel5 Borally will not be getting the bill for the extensive search effort.

"Not at this point," said Cheif Rowe. "This is just what we do." The Cleveland FBI refused an on-camera interview, but told NewsChannel5 it believed it acted appropriately in its effort to find the Richmond Heights businessman.

Richmond Heights police followed Ohio guidelines when it posted Borally's missing persons report on the LEADS police computer database. The report helped investigators in Canada identify Borally when they discovered his van in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

Protocol in reporting missing adults came into question during the Anthony Sowell murder investigation back in 2009. Central Ohio Crime Stoppers believe if some of Sowell's victims had been put into the police database earlier, they may still be alive.

The Ohio Attorney General's missing persons checklist can be found here . Families searching for a missing adult can also post information on ohiomissingadults.com .

Chief Rowe is pleased with the officers who helped with the search, and believes his police department acted appropriately.

"We have to look at each individual case, and try to look at the circumstances," said Chief Rowe. "We look to see if there may be anything that would indicate this is unusual for the person to be missing."
