Nathan Summerfield, left, is a "person of interest" in the disappearance of his former girlfriend, Lynn Jackenheimer, right, who was last seen vacationing with her children on North Carolina's Outer Banks. (Ashland County Sheriff's Office)

Authorities in two states are searching for an Ohio mother last seen vacationing with her children in North Carolina's Outer Banks, while police hunt the woman's ex-boyfriend who is a "person of interest" in the case.
Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, of Ashland, Ohio, was last seen a week ago on Hatteras Island with her two children, ages 3 and 13, and her former boyfriend, Dare County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard told FoxNews.com.
Police say the boyfriend, 27-year-old Nathan Summerfield, returned the children to Ohio on Sunday before fleeing in a 2009 dark metallic gray Honda Civic with Ohio license plate FMV 7540.
"Nate shows up in Ashland County, drops the kids off at a family member's house, has a conversation with one of his relatives and he made certain statements to the relative that he had done something to her and that he needed to get out of here," Capt. Carl Richert of the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department told Fox affiliate WJW-TV.
The station said Summerfield's brother made a 911 call Sunday to report a "possible murder."
"My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend and he came back and said he strangled her, he dropped his kid off and left," Summerfield’s brother told a police dispatcher, according to the station.
Hoggard told FoxNews.com that North Carolina authorities found no trace of Jackenheimer, who was staying in a vacation rental home on the popular resort island with Summerfield and her children. After a search of the home, Hoggard said, "We found nothing to date that they sent us to look for."
Jackenheimer is described as being 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Summerfield is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes, police said.
Anyone with information on Jackenheimer's disappearance is being urged to call the Ashland County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 419-289-3911.

Police in North Carolina are searching for the body of an Ohio mom after her ex-boyfriend confessed to his brother that he strangled her during a vacation trip.

So far police have been unable to find any sign of Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, or her ex-boyfriend Nathan Summerfield.
Summerfield, 27, has been called a "person of interest" in Jackenheimer's disappearance.

The former couple spent the week vacationing in Nags Head, N.C., with their 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter.

On Sunday, Summerfield returned to Ohio and dropped the two children off with family, when he reportedly confessed to his brother that he killed his ex-girlfriend.

"I want to report a possible murder. My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend. He came back and said he strangled her and dropped his kid off and left," Jake Summerfield told an Ashland county dispatcher.

Police in Ohio, along with the Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina, began coordinating an investigation and a search of the Nags Head area.

"I don't believe she is in Ashland County. I don't believe she ever came back from Nags Head," Carl Richert, a captain with the Ashland County Sheriff's Department, told ABC News' affiliate WVEC.

Steve Hoggard, chief deputy in Dare County, said no signs of Jackenheimer were found during an extensive search on Monday.

"We had a comprehensive search on the ground, air and with dogs," he said. "We didn't find anything."

Summerfield was last seen on Sunday driving a silver Honda Civic. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ashland County Sheriff's Department at 419- 289-3911.

Lynn Jackenheimer Missing: Ohio Mom's Boyfriend Allegedly Confessed To Her Murder
Posted: 07/10/2012 5:37 pm

Lynn Jackenheimer went missing on July 4.
Authorities in North Central Ohio say the ex-boyfriend of Lynn Jackenheimer, a 33-year-old mother of two who went missing during a Fourth of July vacation, confessed to her murder.

"[His] brother called 911 and said he wanted to report a murder," Ashland County Sheriff's Department Capt. Carl Richert told The Huffington Post. "He said my brother came home from vacation and said he strangled his wife and buried her."

The 911 caller said his brother, identified by police as 27-year-old Nathan J. Summerfield, made the alleged confession before he fled the area.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Lynn Jackenheimer, of Ashland, was last seen on July 4, when she traveled to Nags Head, N.C. with Summerfield and the couple's 3-year-old son and her 13-year-old daughter. Summerfield returned to Ashland with Jackenheimer's children on Sunday afternoon, but she was not with him.

Richert said Summerfield dropped the children off at a family member's house before he allegedly went into hiding. The children, however, have been unable to assist police in the investigation.

"The 13-year-old is autistic and the 3-year-old is, well, 3 years old," Richert said. "The children were kept in the dark. [Summerfield] had told them, 'Mommy went for a walk and we'll see mommy when we get home.' They were kept in the dark and have not been a lot of help to us."

Authorities are actively searching for Nathan Summerfield and have named him a "person of interest" in Jackenheimer's disappearance.

According to Richert, Summerfield and Jackenheimer were involved in at least one domestic violence incident.

In 2009, Summerfield violently choked Jackenheimer. His arrest warrant also refers to an earlier incident, where he locked her out of their residence after an argument. She was nude at the time, according to the warrant. Summerfield was ultimately found guilty of domestic violence and sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence and one-year probation.

Despite the alleged confession and previous domestic violence incidents, Richert said police are investigating the couple's disappearances as two missing person investigations.

"We have no crime yet," Richert said. "We have what was said to his brother ... but I don't have anything to go with it. Until we find him, find her, or they show up together and say, 'Ha ha, here we are,' we are just handling it as a missing person."

Richert said he has six full-time detectives plus himself working the case, although he does not know how many detectives are investigating the case in North Carolina. The agency handling the case there, the Dare County Sheriff's Office, did not immediately return calls for comment from HuffPost on Tuesday.

"The longer it goes, the worse things are," Richert said. "I would give anything for her just to show up and say, 'Sorry, we had a fight,' for her sake and the kids' sake."

Summerfield was last seen driving a 2009 dark metallic gray Honda Civic four-door. The Ohio license plate tag is FMV 7540. Jackenheimer is about 5-foot-8, with brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dare County Sheriff's Office at 252-475-5980 or the Ashland County Sheriff's Office at 419-289-3911.

That is exactly what I said, plus, why would she have anything to do with him at all after the first incident, let alone more than one incident.

Search for Ohio mom offers no clear answers, as boyfriend mysteriously disappears

Published July 11, 2012
FoxNews.com

Businesses in the hometown of an Ohio woman who disappeared during a North Carolina vacation are offering more than $7,000 in rewards for information about the whereabouts of the woman or her boyfriend.

Authorities say 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland went to the Outer Banks of North Carolina last week with her boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, and her two children, but didn't return with them.

Summerfield's brother called police to say Summerfield told him he strangled the woman.

Police said Summerfield, 27, returned his girlfriend's children to Ohio Sunday and left them with his family. He then withdrew money from an ATM, ditched his cellphone along a road in Ashland County and vanished, Fox8.com reported.

As of late Tuesday, authorities said they had no solid evidence a crime was committed, the report said. Though authorities acknowledge that as more time passes without finding her, the more troubling the case becomes.

"It's hard. The longer it goes the worse it is," Carl Richert, the captain from Ashland Sheriff’s Department, said. "It's frustrating for us because we are trying to do everything we can."

Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina, where the couple vacationed, said it's assisting in the investigation.

Steve Hoggard, the chief deputy of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, told FoxNews.com that authorities have been searching beaches and roads where the couple recently stayed.

Hoggard described some beach areas as challenging because of the thick scrub brush in some areas.

"Some of these beaches are perfect spot to dump something you don't want somebody to find," he said. He said local authorities are keeping an eye out for the person of interest and trying to contact anyone who may know the couple, since they vacationed at the area a few times before.

Jackenheimer works at Beer Barrel in Ashland and did not report to work on Monday, Dean Emmons, her boss, said. He offered $1,000 of his own money as a reward to find Jackenheimer and Summerfield.

Summerfield was convicted of domestic violence in 2009, after records show he choked Jackenheimer, pinned her to a table and dragged her through the house by her neck, Fox8.com reported. In related court documents, Jackenheimer said she was “scared of him.” Summerfield is a person of interest in a missing persons report.

The two children, ages 3 and 13, are not much help with the investigation because they have been largely “kept in the dark” about a lot of things,” Richert told Fox8.com. Relatives said the children understand their mom is missing.

"This morning they asked us to go find Mommy for them," said Raymond Johnson, Jackenheimer’s stepfather. "[The 3-year-old] got up this morning wanting us to go find Mommy for him. He sits and cries wanting his Mommy. Give her back to him, would you please do the right thing Nate?"

HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C.

Local authorities will intensively search areas of Salvo today for any sign of a missing Ohio woman who never returned home from her Fourth of July vacation.

According to search warrants released Wednesday, authorities have reason to believe Lynn Jackenheimer, 33, was buried on Hatteras Island.

Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard of the Dare County Sheriff's Office said that comes from a statement given Sunday by her ex-boyfriend's brother, Jake Summerfield. He's the man who said in a 911 call made Sunday to the Ashland County (Ohio) Sheriff's Office that his brother, Nathan Summerfield, told him he strangled Jackenheimer.

The search is expected to begin about 8 a.m., and will include officers from the Dare County Sheriff's Office, the National Park Service, and the Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head police departments. No boats or canines will be involved, Hoggard said, but he has made a request for aircraft assistance.

Hoggard said the search party studied a map to narrow specific areas to canvass. He said those areas were not decided upon based on any specific evidence.

Jackenheimer left Ashland, Ohio, for a vacation with her 13-year-old daughter, Ciara; Nathan Summerfield; and their 3-year-old son, Leland. She was last seen and heard from July 3.

Nathan Summerfield brought the children back to Ohio on Sunday, dropping them off with relatives. Then he took off in a gray Honda Civic, his brother said in the 911 call. Authorities were still searching for Summerfield on Wednesday night.

Businesses in Ashland are offering more than $7,000 in rewards for information about the whereabouts of Jackenheimer or Summerfield. On Monday night, 150 supporters, relatives and friends gathered for a candlelit vigil in Ashland.

Raymond Johnson, Jackenheimer's stepfather, has appealed for her return.

"Nate, if you're out there watching, I'm just asking you to give Lynn back," he said, speaking into a news camera. "Be a man and give Lynn back to her family. That's all you've got to do, so your son can have his mother back."

Lynn Jackenheimer Likely Murdered -- Did Suspect Commit Suicide?

July 11, 2012 03:10 PM EDT

The Ohio searches for Lynn Jackenheimer have been suspended, but the searches are continuing for her in North Carolina -- where she and Nate Summerfield were on vacation for approximately a week. Officials are conducting these searches by land, air and dog in hopes of sniffing the woman out either alive or dead so as to bring a close to this confusing and tragic high-profile disappearance. Dare County intends on keeping a lookout for the missing woman or the suspect who may have strangled her to death.

In cases like these it's not uncommon for a suspect to take his own life, especially if it was a crime of passion. The fact that police have confirmed the discovery of both her and his cellphones only leads to this speculation more prominently. He is now without communication and certainly he is aware by now that his brother called 911 after he dropped the children off admitting to strangling Lynn Jackenheimer.

Officials must be convinced that the woman isn't in Ohio, but North Carolina instead. Do they have some kind of evidence to indicate that this is certainly the case? Could the cellphones discovered by police hold clues to the locations of either Summerfield or Jackenheimer?

It's a crying shame that this young woman may have fallen victim to foul play at the hands of a man who fathered one of her children. However, it's really not something uncommon. In fact, his behavior doesn't seem much different than the case of Josh Powell, who took his own life after killing the two sons he shared with missing woman Susan Cox Powell. It's good that he returned the children to their grandparents instead of subjecting them to the evil and terror they very well could have been subject to as victims of his fury. It's unlikely that he was lying about harming Lynn, and the fact that neither of them have been found is absolutely telling of this speculation.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

For some reason, I don't think he committed suicide.

Missing Ohio mom reportedly hesitated before going on North Carolina vacation with boyfriend
Published July 12, 2012

The Ohio woman who disappeared during a vacation to North Carolina with her on-again-off-again boyfriend expressed some hesitation about taking the trip with the man who reportedly had a prior domestic violence conviction involving her.
Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland, Ohio, went to the Outer Banks of North Carolina last week with her boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, and her two children, but didn't return with them.

Summerfield pleaded no contest in February 2010 and received a suspended 60-day jail sentence and one year of intensive probation, The Mansfield News Journal reported. Jackenheimer was granted a temporary protection order, the report said.
"I do know at one point she told Nate she was thinking about not going," Alex Taylor, a friend of Jackenheimer, told Fox8.com. "He got quite upset about that and then the trip was back on."
"I know he had done things to her in the past. He had hurt her in more ways than one," Taylor said. "If I really thought she was in danger, we wouldn’t have let her go."
A few of Jackenheimer’s family members said they are headed to the Tar Heel State to search for the mother of two.
"We keep reassuring Jackenheimer’s family that this is far from a cold case here. But part of me hopes that Summerfield just pulls up in the [sheriff] station’s parking lot."
- Carl L. Richert, the captain from Ashland Sheriff’s Department
"Can't keep waiting before it’s way too late," Raymond Johnson, Jackenheimer's stepfather, told Fox8.com. "We need to find her now. I ain't gonna accomplish anything, but we're just, can't keep sitting around doing nothing."
Police said Summerfield, 27, returned his girlfriend's children to Ohio Sunday and left them with his family.
Carl L. Richert, the captain from Ashland Sheriff’s Department, told FoxNews.com Thursday that he shares the family’s frustration with lack of evidence.
He said little has changed in the investigation. At any given time, there are six detectives working the case and authorities are obtaining search warrants to conduct further investigations.
"We keep reassuring Jackenheimer’s family that this is far from a cold case here," he said. "But part of me hopes that Summerfield just pulls up in the [sheriff] station’s parking lot."
Summerfield, who allegedly told his brother Sunday that he killed Jackenheimer, is considered a person of interest in a missing person's case, Richert said.
Relevant evidence, other than Summerfield’s cellphone and ATM records, has been few and far between.
The Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina, where the couple vacationed, said it's assisting in the investigation and is planning a Tuesday search.
The two children, ages 3 and 13, are not much help with the investigation because they have been largely "kept in the dark" about a lot of things, Richert told Fox8.com. Relatives said the children understand their mom is missing.
Businesses in Jackenheimer's hometown are offering more than $7,000 in rewards for information about the whereabouts of the woman or her boyfriend.

Body found in search for Ohio mom feared strangled by ex-boyfriend while on vacation

Police in North Carolina found a body near where an Ohio mom went missing earlier this month while vacationing with her children and her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly confessed to strangling her.
Dare County Sheriff's officials wouldn't say whether they suspected the body was 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer, of Ashland, who was staying in a rented house on Hatteras Island with Nathan Summerfield, 27, and her two kids.
The body was found under a tree and covered with some brush near a cul-de-sac in the community of Frisco sometime around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's department said.
Frisco is 30 miles south of Salvo, where search crews have been hunting for Jackenheimer since last week.
Sheriff's officials told Cleveland television station WEWS-TV that a man doing construction work near the cul-de-sac first spotted the body and called police.
They wouldn't say whether the body was a man or a woman.
Jackenheimer was on a week's vacation in the Outer Banks with Summerfield, her 13-year-old daughter Ciara, and the couple’s son together, 3-year-old son Leland, when she vanished.
Last Sunday, Summerfield's brother, Jake, called police to report "a possible murder" after Nathan returned to Ashland with the kids, but not their mother.
Jake Summerfield told police that his brother admitted to strangling the young waitress and then "dropped his kid off and left."

Ciara was found alone at Nathan’s home, while Leland was left at Summerfield's parents' house, police said.
Nathan Summerfield hasn't been seen since.
Police called him a person of interest in the case, and were searching for his gray 2009 Honda Civic, with Ohio plates FMV 7540.
The children were staying with relatives in Ohio.
Police said they haven't been able to offer many clues and the family was keeping them "in the dark" about what happened to their mother, Fox News reported.

Jackenheimer and Summerfield had a troubled relationship.
In December 2009, he was charged with domestic violence for choking her and dragging her around by the neck, according to police documents.
He received a 60-day suspended jail sentence and one year of probation, Ohio station WMFD reported.
Family members said they weren't happy when they discovered the two were spending the week together at the beach, according to local reports.
Members of Jackenheimer's family were in North Carolina, but haven't commented on the body's discovery.

Missing Ashland Mom Case: Waiting for ID on NC Body

Posted on: 3:42 pm, July 15, 2012, by Bliss Davis, updated on: 07:00am, July 16, 2012

By Autumn Ziemba
DARE COUNTY, North Carolina — It could be another 24 to 48 hours before investigators know if a body found in Frisco, North Carolina is that of missing Ashland mother Lynn Jackenheimer.

It has been an agonizing ten days for those who know and love the 33-year-old mother of two.

Sunday afternoon on The Shawn Ireland Radio Show in Columbus, Jackenheimer’s mother and sister spoke about the tremendous pain of the unknown. The two have been part of a massive search effort in Dare County.

“We were searching parks and digging mulch, and that’s one thing that you just don’t think of when having your children–that one day you’ll be digging to find them. And that’s probably the worst thing that I’ve ever done in my life,” Lora Johnson told the radio show.

Jackenheimer disappeared while on a family vacation in the Outer Banks with her estranged boyfriend, Nathan Summerfield, 27.

Summerfield returned to Ashland with the two children on July 8th, and reportedly told his brother that he strangled Jackenheimer and disposed of her body.
According to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, investigators discovered a body Saturday afternoon beneath small trees and brush, about 10 to 20 yards from a cul-de-sac in the city of Frisco. The area is about 25 miles from where Jackenheimer went missing.

Captain Charles Nieman with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office says a person doing paperwork in a parked car noticed something odd, either by sight or smell, just off the road, and got out of the car to investigate. That person then called police.

“That neighborhood is actually a water access community. There is a dock that leads out to the sound. That dock to where the body was found is about 30 yards,” Capt. Nieman explained.

Nieman said that because of the position of the body, they could not determine if it was a man or a woman. He also said there is one vacant house on the street, which is not known to be connected to the investigation.
An autopsy on the body is scheduled for Tuesday morning, but could happen as early as Monday.

“It’s another day of waiting, but at least we maybe have answers now. Every day we wake up and pray for answers,” Lora Johnson told The Shawn Ireland Show, “At least we have something now.”

Jackenheimer’s sister told the radio show that the family has not been permitted to see the body.

“We are unable to identify the body for them, so we’re just waiting for everything,” Tasha Johnson said, “if we are able to identify it, if need be.”

The search for Jackenheimer was suspended Friday because of heavy rain, and has not resumed. Capt. Nieman says for the time being, everything is in a holding pattern.

Nathan Summerfield was last seen driving a dark grey metallic 2009 Honda Civic. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.

A fund has been set up in support of Jackenheimer’s two children. People can donate to the Lynn A. Jackenheimer Family Trust Fund at any Chase Bank branch.

Lynn Jackenheimer, Ohio mom, confirmed dead by NC police after vacation visit

(AP) MANTEO, N.C. - Police in coastal North Carolina say a body discovered on the Outer Banks is an Ohio woman missing since her family vacationed there. Dare County Sheriff's Capt. Charles Nieman said Monday the body was that of Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland, Ohio.

Her body was found Saturday just off a street about 20 to 30 miles from where the 33-year-old woman disappeared.

Nieman says Jackenheimer's cause of death hasn't been determined. He says an autopsy still under way was able to confirm her identity.

Jackenheimer was reported missing when she didn't come home from a vacation on the Outer Banks with her two children and her on-and-off boyfriend, Nate Summerfield. Police say Summerfield dropped the children off in Ashland and drove away.

FRISCO, N.C. (WAVY) - It's the outcome no one wanted, but many suspected. A body found in the Outer Banks Saturday has been identified by Dare County officials as Lynn Jackenheimer, 33.

According to the Dare County Sheriff's Office, her ex-boyfriend, Nate Summerfield is wanted in connection with her death.

View Summerfield's arrest warrant here.

The mother of two was last seen on July 3 in the Salvo area of North Carolina, where she was vacationing with her children and Summerfield.

A man discovered her body in a marshy area surrounding a cul-de-sac off Highway 12 on July 14. WAVY.com obtained his 911 call. On it, the caller told the dispatcher, "I think I may have found possibly a body in a trash bag." He went on to describe the body as a woman, wearing a Hooters shirt. WAVY News 10's Anne McNamara spoke with the family of Lynn Jackenheimer, who said Lynn collected Hooters shirts.

He mentioned a missing woman from Ohio and went on to describe the scene, stating he could smell something.

The cause of death has not been determined, according to Captain Charlie Nieman with the Dare County Sheriff's Office.

Nate Summerfield's brother called 911 the Sunday after she disappeared and told the dispatcher, "My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend and he came back and he said he strangled her. He dropped his kid off and left." Summerfield is considered a person of interest in this case.

Summerfield was last seen driving his gray or silver 2009 Honda Civic. Authorities say the license plate reads " FMV 7540." The lead detective from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office tells WAVY.com so far a nationwide search has been unsuccessful in finding his car.

Summerfield's location is still unknown.

WAVY News 10's Anne McNamara is in the Outer Banks where investigators just released the autopsy results that determined the body was in fact Jackenheimer's. Stay with WAVY News 10 on air and online for updates on this developing story.

ASHLAND, Ohio - For an entire week, friends of Lynn Jackenheimer kept hope alive. Bur late Monday afternoon, those hopes turned to sadness when a body found in North Carolina was positively identified as Lynn.

"Distraught, upset, real upset," Jimmy Robinson said. "I mean it's real disturbing."

Robinson was busy changing the sign outside Goodfellows Pizzeria and Pub where Lynn worked to read: “Rest in peace. You memories will last forever.” The other side of the sign reads “Wanted Nate Summerfield.”

Nate Summerfield, 27, is Jackenheimer's ex-boyfriend who returned from vacation without her and hasn't been seen since. According to a 911 call right after Jackenheimer went missing, Summerfield told a relative that he had strangled Lynn.

"It's obvious he needs to be found," Goodfellows owner Tracey Cole said. "He needs to be found." North Carolina authorities issued a warrant for Summerfield on Monday.

Friends said they will continue to raise funds for the Jackenheimer family.

"It is really heartbreaking; I didn't know the people well. I feel sorry for the family and the children and now they don't have a mother,” said Ashland resident Tresses Cole.

"As a mother it kind of tears you up. What are her parents going through, the children," said Jan Christian, Ashland resident.

Police issue arrest warrant for Ohio woman's boyfriend after she's found dead

ASHLAND, Ohio – Authorities investigating the death of an Ohio woman whose body was found on North Carolina's Outer Banks have issued an arrest warrant for her on-and-off boyfriend.

Police on Monday confirmed a body discovered in a vacant lot was 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland. She went missing early this month during a vacation with her children and Nate Summerfield.

Police say he returned the children to Ashland and apparently drove away.

Summerfield's brother has told authorities that Summerfield said he strangled the woman. The cause of death, which hasn't been released, would determine whether the case is a homicide.

Authorities tell reporters a warrant for Summerfield was issued once the body was identified. He previously was described as a person of interest in the case.

An active search is underway for the man accused of murdering his girlfriend in the Outer Banks.

Someone told police they think they saw Nate Summerfield. The search is underway in Columbus, Ohio, according to our sister station there, NBC 4. A woman told police she spotted a man matching Summerfield's description at her apartment complex, in a car that matched his vehicle description.

Columbus is about 80 miles south of Ashland, Ohio, where Lynn Jackenheimer was from.

The autopsy for the 33-year-old mother of two showed she died from being strangled and stab wounds. Her body was found in Frisco in Dare County Saturday. We will keep you posted on the search for Summerfield.

Authorities say an Ohio woman, whose body was found Saturday in a remote area of Dare County, was stabbed and strangled to death.

Lynn Jackenheimer was last seen July 4th while vacationing with her boyfriend and two children in Salvo. Her body was discovered Saturday in Frisco, about 20 miles away.

Sheriff Doug Doughtie says they have been in contact with federal authorities, as well as those from Ohio, about locating the woman's on-again, off-again boyfriend. A murder warrant for Nate Summerfield was issued Monday afternoon.

Doughtie says if they are able to locate Summerfield, there is information that only he can provide.

Summerfield dropped the woman's two children off in Ashland, Ohio and hasn't been heard from since then.

Suspect in murder of Ohio mom reportedly spotted in Columbus
Published July 18, 2012

Authorities say the suspect in the murder of an Ohio woman who disappeared earlier this month was spotted at a Columbus apartment complex, Fox8.com reported.
Authorities received a tip that Nate Summerfield was allegedly attempting to switch his license plate with another vehicle, the report said. He reportedly fled the scene after a resident spotted him.
Lynn Jackenheimer's body was found Saturday afternoon in a remote area in North Carolina after a vacation with her family. She was found in a trash bag and died of stab wounds and was strangled.
An arrest warrant was issued for Summerfield, who will face murder charges if caught. Authorities say a warrant was issued once the body was identified. He was previously described as a person of interest in the case.
Columbus police said they received a call late Tuesday night from a woman who was convinced she saw the suspect tampering with the license plates.
"The guy that was around it was acting a little weird. He was ducked down to the car next to it messing with the license plate, which didn’t look right because we never have any issues over this way," she said in a live interview. She asked not to be identified.
The sighting was considered a credible report, the U.S. Marshal Service said. The agency is actively trying to track down the suspect.

I think he will be caught if he doesn't kill himself first. I do NOT think he is dead at this point in time and never thought he was. He is a coward to the "nth degree". And, not only did he strangle Lynn but he also stabbed her. Those poor children!

ASHLAND, Ohio - With tear-filled eyes and heavy hearts, family and friends said goodbye to Lynn Jackenheimer. The 33-year-old Ashland mother of two was murdered in North Carolina, her body found by a construction worker in Frisco on July 14.

Dozens attended the public wake inside Wappner Funeral Directors and described a beautiful white coffin with a letter from Jackenheimer sharing her love for her children.

Some family members were wearing purple, while others were wearing white "Justice for Lynn" T-shirts.

Two women from the community waited outside, holding a "Justice for Lynn" poster. They told our crews they didn't want to disturb the family by going inside.

Friends of Jackenheimer were also passing out flyers of a petition started on change.org for stricter legislation against domestic violence.
Jackenheimer disappeared over the July Fourth weekend while vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with estranged boyfriend Nate Summerfield. The 27-year-old Summerfield is accused of stabbing and strangling Jackenheimer to death before dumping her body 30 minutes from their beach cottage rental site.

An intense manhunt is on to find Summerfield, who police said came back home from the trip and dropped off his 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer's 13-year-old daughter, who has autism, at a family friend's house on July 8. He then reportedly withdrew cash from an Ashland ATM and took off in a gray Honda Civic with Ohio license plate FMV 7540. Authorities said Summerfield confessed to his brother that he killed Jackenheimer shortly before he disappeared.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals are following leads on his whereabouts and Summerfield's information is also posted on America's Most Wanted site.

Meanwhile, Jackenheimer's obituary said the loving mother worked three jobs at Goodfellows, The Beer Barrel, and Riley’s to be able to give more for her children. She was also a volunteer at Catholic Charities and was an advocate for teaching children about autism awareness.
Traveling to the ocean and admiring lighthouses were some of Jackenheimer's favorite things to see and do. She also enjoyed cooking, going horseback riding, and shopping. Above all else, Jackenheimer loved to spend time with her kids and family.

Funeral services will be held July 23 at 11 a.m. at Grace Brethren Church, 1144 W. Main St. in Ashland. Jackenheimer will be laid to rest in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to benefit Jackenheimer's children at any Chase Bank.

According to the Dare County Sheriff's Office, her ex-boyfriend, Nate Summerfield is wanted in connection with her death. Warrants have been obtained on a first degree murder charge. They were vacationing in Dare County with Lynn's children at the time of her murder.

A nationwide search for Summerfield is underway.

Summerfield was last seen driving his gray or silver 2009 Honda Civic, with the license plate "FMV 7540." Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the U.S. Marshal Service at 866-4-WANTED. Tips can also be sent via text at TIP411, key word WANTED.

Crime expert gives thoughts on case

ASHLAND -- A nationally recognized crime expert has weighed in on the manhunt for a man accused of murdering an Ashland mother.

Crime author and former Ashland police Detective Stacy Dittrich appeared Wednesday on the Levi Page Show online to discuss the search for Nathan Summerfield, 27. Authorities have issued a murder warrant for the Ashland High School graduate in connection with the recent death of his estranged girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer, 33.

Dittrich, a 20-year law enforcement veteran, has appeared on CNN, the "Nancy Grace," CBS' "48 Hours," FOX's "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Geraldo At Large." She also regularly speaks across the country about domestic violence.

Levi Page is a crime commentator on the "Nancy Grace" TV show.

"This is clearly a domestic violence crime with one of the worst outcomes imaginable," Dittrich said. "You hear people say, 'Oh, it'll never happen to me,' but in this case, it did."

Dittrich referred to a previous domestic violence charge Jackenheimer had filed against Summerfield.

"If somebody chooses on their own to go back to the offender, it's up to friends and family to convince her otherwise," Dittrich said. "From what I know, Lynn's friends and family tried."

Dittrich said the crime does not seem to have been pre-meditated.

"I looked at the death penalty statistics in North Carolina and Ohio. In North Carolina, since 1977, they have had 43 executions," she said. "Since 1999, in Ohio, we've had 47. If that's what we he was looking at, North Carolina would be the better state to commit that crime, but I don't think that was the case here.

"It seems more like a crime of passion. Based on my experience, the way he just dumped the body and then told his brother what he had done, makes him seem panicky. It tells me that it looks to be more of an 'in-the-moment' situation."

Dittrich said authorities likely would look into any computer searches Summerfield made.

"Check to see if he was searching the death penalty in North Carolina or researching secluded areas in Marblehead that would show premeditation," she said.

Dittrich warned tipsters to be careful before calling in a sighting.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, U.S. Marshals received several tips regarding Summerfield's possible whereabouts.

"Just be careful," Dittrich said. "A lot of times people mean well, but some calls can be more of a hindrance than a help to an investigation. People need to realize this is an actual murder investigation, so before you jump to conclusions and send police on a cat-and-mouse chase, think about what you're doing."

Mancan Staffing helps with manhunt for murder suspect

IndeOnline.com staff report
Posted Jul 27, 2012 @ 09:00 AM

Justice may be blind, but it will take plenty of eyes to aid authorities in tracking down one of Ohio’s most wanted men.

In Massillon, Mancan Staffing is helping to ensure that all area residents are prepared to help state authorities capture a man they believe strangled and killed his estranged girlfriend while vacationing in North Carolina earlier this month.

Authorities believe that Nathan Summerfield, 27, is responsible for the death of 33-year-old Ashland woman Lynn Jackenheimer. Since the public has been alerted that Summerfield is a suspect, there have been numerous attempts to spread the word about how to identify him.

In Massillon, one of those ways involves the banner hanging on the Mancan Staffing building at 48 First Street NE. It was inspired by a motorist who had displayed an identical banner across the tailgate of his or her truck.

Kim Kossack, branch manager for the Massillon staffing office, said that Mancan representatives learned the banner was made by Mid-Ohio Graphics in Ashland and worked with the company to print up identical banners that are now being displayed at company offices throughout the state.

“When we saw it, we moved forward with contacting the printing company to get several more printed up,” Kossack said. “We wanted to put them up at all of our locations.”

For Mancan employees, hanging the banners was a small way to help a fellow employee — a Mansfield Mancan office employee who has a personal connection to Jackenheimer.

As those who knew Jackenheimer begin to say good-bye, Kossack believes the banners could help to bring closure to family members and friends who loved her. Especially if it leads to the arrest of the person who may have killed her.

“We always want to do our part to be involved in the community and help out those who help us,” Kossack said. “Anything we can do to help out this family is something that we believe is important to do.”

I cannot believe that they have not found him yet. I read that a lady in Columbus reported that she thought she saw him and that he was changing license plates. I am not sure if that panned out or not.

ASHLAND, Ohio - The parents of wanted fugitive Nate Summerfield, who's accused of murdering Ashland mom Lynn Jackenheimer, are seeking custody of their 3-year-old son, Leland.
Jackenheimer's parents have had custody of the children, ages 3 and 13, since their daughter disappeared and was later found murdered. When the Jackenheimers went to Ashland Family Court Monday to request full custody of Leland, they learned the Summerfields are also petitioning to get full custody of the boy.
A family friend said the Jackenheimers "were completely shocked" when they saw the Summerfields in court.
"It was a complete surprise. They haven't even spoken to Lynn's family, given her an apology, condolences. They haven't tried to reach out to Nate to get him help. They haven't done anything."
Leland currently lives with Jackenheimer's parents, who already have full custody of her 13-year-old daughter who has autism.
"They were completely devastated by the news," the friend said.
The 33-year-old mother went on vacation with Summerfield, her estranged boyfriend, to the Outer Banks in North Carolina over the Fourth of July weekend and never returned home. Summefield came back with the children, dropped them off at a family friend's house and hasn't been seen or heard from since July 8.
A construction worker in Frisco, North Carolina found Jackenheimer's body in a bag on July 14. Police believe Summerfield killed her and is hiding out in Ohio.
"We're continuing to get tips every single day and we're following up on them. Nothing new has been discovered yet," said Drew Deserto, assistant chief with the US Marshals Service.

Suspect in murder of Ashland County woman still on the run

6:57 AM, Aug 3, 2012

ASHLAND-Nate Summerfield ''Wanted" posters are posted on almost every street corner in Ashland County, but Megan Cooper is still placing the fugitive's picture where she can.

Summerfield is accused of murdering 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer of Ashland last month.

Jackenheimer's body was found in a bag in a cul-de-sac on Hatteras Island, N.C. on July 14. The causes of death were strangulation and stab wounds. Summerfield, an ex-boyfriend, is missing since July 8, when he dropped off the two children of Lynn Jackenheimer in Ashland after a vacation in the Outer Banks.

''I would say about 20,000-plus flyers (were donated) from Bookmasters, Gorman Rupp, hotcards.com and MT Business Technologies in the past few weeks," said Cooper, a childhood friend of Lynn's sister, Tara. ''They're basically up all over Ohio," she said.

She said MVD also donated T-shirts for the cause, and Mid Ohio Graphics produced at-cost T-shirts and banners.

While Summerfield's picture is out there and publicity continues, authorities Thursday said they have nothing new to report.

''We're still looking for him. We won't stop," Drew Deserto, assistant chief with the U.S. Marshals Service said. He asked the public to call their hotline at 866-4WANTED if they have information.

''We ask the public to continue to pass on information to us," he said. The Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina has issued a murder warrant for Summerfield.

Cooper has driven to Cleveland and Columbus to get Summerfield's photograph in the public eye.

Cooper, of Ashland, said she sets up a table each week to collect donations for Lynn's children at Goasis at Interstate 71 and U.S. 250 where she brings posters. Cooper also sells T-shirts.

On Thursday, outside the gas station, Hallie Mullet, 9, used her own money to buy a ball for Lynn's children, Leland, 3, and Ciara, 13, and designed her own T-shirt.

Strangers asked Cooper to join a prayer for Summerfield's capture within 72 hours and asked the Lord to look over Lynn's family.

Cooper said she is studying nursing and will return to college soon, but she wants to help Lynn's family find closure.

''It's the right thing to do. Someone's got to get out there so the family can do what they need to do," she said.

Thursday, Lynn's mother Lora Johnson, thanked everyone for their efforts.

''Lynn had so many beautiful people who loved here. They're doing anything they can," Johnson said.

''Anything anyone can do to get his face out there, so we can get justice for Lynn and get some closure, so we can actually rest at night, it's really appreciated," Johnson said.

Ashland County Sheriff's Capt. Carl Richert said authorities continue to work on the case daily.

''I want him to turn himself in to any law enforcement agency. We'll treat him with dignity. He'll face his accusers," Richert said.

''He should think about his 3-year-old boy. We don't want anyone to get hurt. Both families have suffered enough.''

Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina said Summerfield is believed to be in Ohio, but could be anywhere.

''We're all working together. We'd like to get this guy in custody," he said.

Cooper said a ''Love for Lynn Softball Tournament'' is being held on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Brookside West Park.

''Twenty-four teams have signed up and there will be raffles and a concession stand. Proceeds go to Lynn's children," Cooper said.

Friends and family of Lynn Jackenheimer are using the video-sharing website YouTube to appeal for information on her suspected killer.

A three-minute video clip (above) featuring photos of the primary suspect, Jackenheimer's estranged boy-friend Nathan Summerfield, and his missing vehicle was uploaded to YouTube. The video has been viewed more than 6,000 times.

Post by Guest Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:33 am

by Chelsea Hoffman

The man accused of murdering Lynn Jackenheimer is still on the run and family of the slain Ohio mother believe that someone is helping him stay off the radar. Friends also believe that Nate Summerfield's keen intelligence is helping him outsmart police. While the lawyers of the Jackenheimer family don't want them to discuss the details of an impending custody battle, it's curious to consider all of the elements at play. Could someone in the Summerfield family be helping Nate? This is just a question, but it would be nice to find out whether or not that thought is prominent in the minds of others. These latest updates in the case bring to attention just how volatile this entire situation really is.

It's reported that Nate Summerfield is highly intelligent with computer hacking abilities, giving him the ability to stay a few steps ahead of police. However, there aren't really any signs of this so called intelligence aside from the fact that someone who was friends with Lynn Jackenheimer says so. Not to judge a book by its cover, but he really doesn't look like he has what it takes to manipulate cellphone tower triangulation. Maybe he does, but it just seems unlikely.

What does seem likely, however, is the possibility that someone is helping him avoid capture. The type of person that would be helping Nate Summerfield could be of two particular personalities. It could be an impressionable female who is romantically linked with the man. This could be someone who is either younger than he, or of easy-to-manipulate mental stature; someone who has a low self esteem who is willing to protect someone who "acted in passion" against a "woman who deserved it." This isn't unlikely if you look at cases like the disappearance and murder of Kenia Monge, whose murderer was protected by his girlfriend Kerry Humphries. These are despicable women who deserve to be treated as accomplices regardless of their weakened emotional or mental states.
