Silver Alert Issued For Makayla Rose Macedo

A Silver Alert has been issued for a teenage girl missing from Hope Mills, North Carolina.

Police are looking for 16-year-old Makayla Rose Macedo, who is believed to be cognitively impaired.

A spokesperson for the Hope Mills Police Department told The Huffington Post that Macedo was last on Wednesday, in the 1400 block of Jockey Court in Parkton. She was traveling east, toward Blacks Bridge Road, police said.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Macedo shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety website, Silver Alerts are issued for individuals that suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments. The state developed the Silver Alert program to quickly locate missing persons who may be endangered.

Macedo is white, with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes, 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 135 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with black design, black tights and black shoes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call police at 910-425-4103.

Sixteen-year-old Makayla Rose Macedo was last seen at a home in Parkton, N.C., heading in the direction of Blacks Bridge Road. Reports aren't clarifying how long the girl has been missing, but a Silver Alert has been issued, indicating that she is suffering from some sort of cognitive defect. She is undoubtedly a vulnerable teen girl, so it's important that she be found.

Makayla Rose Macedo is 5'2" and 135 lbs., with shoulder-length, brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black tights, black shoes, and a black and white shirt. If you've seen this missing teen call authoritie at (910) 425-4103.

Reports aren't clear on what kind of cognitive disabilities the missing girl may have, nor are reports clarifying on the urgency in her disappearance. So it's not known as to whether or not she is voluntarily missing or a potential victim of abduction. Hopefully more details surface soon so as to shed more light on this missing teen's story.

Silver Alert for Hope Mills teen canceled

PARKTON, N.C. — Authorities canceled a Silver Alert Sunday for a missing Hope Mills teen who was last seen at a home in Parkton.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Makayla Rose Macedo, 16, on Sept. 19. She is believed to be cognitively impaired.

It wasn't clear why the alert was canceled or whether Macedo was found safe.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
