No Charges Planned in Simsbury Amber Alert
Friday, Nov 30, 2012 | Updated 2:32 PM EST
An Amber Alert is over, after a frantic search for a missing mother and her young son.
Simsbury police said they have no reason to file charges against a mother who was the subject of an Amber Alert on Thursday.
An Amber Alert was issued for Anthony Bunce and his mother, Yolanda Bunce, around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday after an incident at the State Armory on Broad Street in Hartford, according to police. They were later found safe in Rhode Island.
This was the first Amber Alert issued in the town of Simsbury, police said.
Police Chief Peter Ingvertsen said the mother is accounted for and the alert "worked as it was designed."
Anthony is now with his father and the state Department of Children and Families has been contacted.
The alert was issued after co-workers of the boy's father told police that Yolanda Bunce showed up at the Armory around 3 p.m. and wanted to speak to Anthony's father, Edward Bunce, a member of the Connecticut National Guard.
They said she was incoherent, dropped off miscellaneous items and then drove off with the 3-year-old in a black 2006 Volvo S60 bearing Connecticut license plate 881 YCN.
Police said they believed Yolanda Bunce was intoxicated. There had been an earlier indication that police had tracked a signal from her cell phone to East Granby, but that was not the case.
The pair was found in Scituate, Rhode Island around 8:30 p.m.
