Mickey Shunick's Killer Made His Bed -- Now He Has To Lay in It
March 12, 2013 07:15 PM EDT
Mickey Shunick's killer isn't having the best luck lately. Brandon Scott Lavergne had filed a motion to withdraw his guilty pleas regarding the murders of the Lafayette woman and another Louisiana woman. It's not surprising to hear that a judge has denied his motion, rendering him (for now) a guilty murderer who will likely die in prison.
Brandon Lavergne made his bed, and now he has to lay in it. He's the one who confessed to killing Mickey Shunick and he is who led officials to her buried remains. It's more than obvious that he is the one who murdered her, and if he isn't, he's covering for someone close (and that's highly unlikely).
Mickey Shunick's family can rest easy knowing that he isn't going to get out of prison anytime soon (if ever at all), and it's likely that no judge in Louisiana will withdraw those guilty pleas. What's done is done and unless some miraculous turn of events takes place, things are going to stay this way.

Brandon Scott Lavergne
A year has passed since 21-year-old Mickey Shunick died at the hands of confessed murderer Brandon Scott Lavergne, who is serving a life sentence in the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Still, it feels like just yesterday that Shunick was murdered and always will, says Shunick’s mother, Nancy Rowe.
These are the words she wrote to The Daily Advertiser as the one-year anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance approached:
I keep coming back to the knowledge that Brandon Lavergne murdered Mickey for absolutely no reason. He had plans to abuse and torture her, and then kill her as a matter of convenience - a registered sex offender simply cannot rape and release; his DNA is in a national database.
This was not a murder for money, love, hate - he had no grudge against her.
At some point, when both of them had numerous stab wounds, he must have realized that the raping and tormenting were not going to happen. At that point he could have taken both of them to a hospital; the “argument over money, self-defense” could have flown so long as both were wounded and she was alive. But he had no Plan B simply 'show the knife, show the gun, she will submit.' Not Mickey. Never.
I still regret examining the death certificate; it says: “Primary cause of death: gunshot wound to the head. Secondary cause of death: multiple stab wounds.”
Some people say she passed away - not so; she was wrenched from this life and fought death every instant.
Others say 'It is God's will' - really? It is the will of a truly heartless monster. No God involved in this.
In some ways it is a relief to know that whatever pain and terror and horror Mickey suffered, it was short-lived. She was dead within 45 minutes of leaving (her friend’s) house.
Our pain will go on for the rest of our lives.
That is all I have to say about this. Strangers and friends kept us going, and many will be friends for life. We are fortunate in this.

LAFAYETTE, La. – A Louisiana community is searching for a local college student who disappeared while riding her bicycle home, Fox 44 reports.
Mickey Shunick, 21, was last seen by a friend leaving a local club on her bicycle around 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning. When she failed to show up for her brother's high school graduation later Saturday, her family and friends grew concerned.
“She had been looking forward to that for weeks, so there’s no way she would have missed that," Shunick's close friend Ashley Says told Fox 44.
Fox 44 reports Shunick had gone with friends to a local club to see a concert Friday, and then went to get a bite to eat. She then departed for her home on her bicycle, but never made it.
“We all know it’s dangerous to ride at night, but it was something she loved,” Says told Fox 44. “She’s not a rebel. She always has a can of mace in her front pocket, she obeys all traffic laws. She loved to have fun, but she’s really responsible.”
The Lafayette Police Department says they have few leads in the case. Shunick's friends have organized search parties and are sharing her story on social media, desperate for clues.
"She loves life," Says told Fox44. "She’s a great person, and we’re all just trying to keep positive thoughts.”

He confessed to Mickey's Murder and was convicted, with the use of EVIDENCE not on what the news outlets were reporting.
What difference does it make that Media sources got some of the facts wrong. It happens all the time! Ask the producers of the Nancy Grace Show.
