GREELEY, Colo. - Four days after a 12-year-old northern Colorado girl disappeared after leaving home to walk to a friend's birthday party, authorities expanded their search Thursday to include places she was known to frequent, including a music store, library and shopping mall.

"We're hoping against hope that she's out there, she's safe and she is just a runaway," said Sgt. Joe Tymkowych of the police department in Greeley, about 60 miles north of Denver. "But we have to try to figure all the possible propensities of things that could happen and pursue those leads as well."

Kayleah Wilson was last seen Sunday afternoon, when she left her Greeley home to go to a birthday party just across a busy highway from her apartment building.

Authorities have since gone door to door seeking information on her whereabouts and used dogs to comb medians, ditches and bushes along the highway for clues. Investigators also have interviewed friends, family and acquaintances and have found nothing to indicate she ran away, Tymkowych said. Police planned to re-interview some of those people Thursday.

About 60 police and FBI agents were aiding in the search for the sixth-grader, whom her mother, April Wilson, described as a "good kid."

"She never hanged out with the bad crowds," Wilson said Thursday outside her apartment. "She had her friends. She liked to hang out at the mall, go to the library -- you know, typical kid stuff."

Wilson said she had no information on what may have happened to her daughter but wanted her to know, "We love you. We miss you. Just come home. We want you home."

Tymkowych said police have contacted the girl's father, who lives in California, and other family members to advise them that she's missing and may be contacting them if she ran away.

He says Kayleah had a boyfriend, who has been interviewed and is cooperating. He is not considered a suspect or person of interest. April Wilson also spent about 12 hours at the police station Wednesday, but Tymkowych said Wilson was there assisting police in the search.

The middle school student is 5-foot-1, weighs 145 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Authorities say Kayleah has asthma and was believed to be carrying an inhaler. She doesn't have a cell phone.

April Wilson said her daughter likes pizza and the color pink, and that her favorite band is called Celtic Thunder.

At Kayleah's school a few blocks from her home, teachers on Thursday wore purple and pink memorial ribbons turned sideways to resemble a "K" for Kayleah.

Brentwood Middle School science teacher Mandy Skinner described Kayleah as a soft-spoken girl who often kept to herself but participated enthusiastically in group discussions and completed her assignments.

"She's a typical sixth-grader," Skinner added.

Kayleah's case is not the first missing-child case in Greeley. Jonelle Matthews, 12, disappeared on Dec. 20, 1984, and was never found. That case remains unsolved.

"That again was one of those situations where we were never able to establish if there was a runaway involved, or if it was an abduction," Tymkowych said.

FBI Denver field office spokesman Dave Joly said the FBI regularly provides help in investigating possible child abductions.

It's a shame, but parents just can't let kids out of their site and alone. I wonder how many sex offenders (registered, of course, 🇳🇴 ) there are in her apt building. I really hope she is a run-away and is safe somewhere, but I sincerely hope LE does not spend a lot of effort in that direction, her family and friends could pursue that possibility and look for her in her favorite spots.

April Wilson's ex-husband, Jesse Wilson, said Thursday he is "dumbfounded" by his former stepdaughter's disappearance, adding he's told police and the FBI everything he knows to help the search.
Kayleah left home at 3:40 p.m. Sunday to walk about eight blocks to a birthday party near the Greeley Mall. Her mother reported her missing about 10 p.m.
The FBI joined the search for Kayleah on Wednesday and began interviewing the girl's family and friends. Kayleah is a sixth-grader at Brentwood Middle School and had recently broken up with her 17-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend has been questioned and is cooperating with the investigation but is not considered a person of interest, said Greeley police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych.
April Wilson also spent about 12 hours at the police station Wednesday, but Tymkowych said she was there assisting police in the search.
Jesse Wilson, who said he has had no contact with Kayleah for the past four years, said he wouldn't dismiss the idea that Kayleah may have gone to California to see her biological father.
"He's tried to get her to come out there," Wilson said. "It could be possible."
Students at Brentwood Middle School have been actively seeking information on her whereabouts and cooperating with police and the FBI, said Brentwood principal John Diebold.
"Nearly every kid is working the social networks — Twitter or Facebook — to make sure she gets back safe," Diebold said.
Diebold, who has been principal at the school for 11 years, has never encountered anything like the disappearance of a student, including dealing with the media and the FBI.
"But that's fine, any exposure we can get will help get Kayleah home," said Diebold, who sent letters home to parents asking for their help in locating Kayleah.
"For 12-year-olds to be talking to the FBI, that's a little intimidating," Diebold said. "But these kids want to do anything they can to get her back safely."

Authorities are also reportedly questioning the 17-year-old boyfriend of Kayleah, of whom her mother told ABCNews.com she did not approve.

If the mother didn't approve than why was he her boyfriend. This is disgusting. She shouldn't have even had a 12 year old boyfriend.

While making a plea to the public for help on Friday afternoon, the FBI and Greeley Police Department say they do have some leads in the disappearance of a missing 12-year-old girl.

"We have to assume the worst. That's our job. We assume the worst and hope for the best. And that's the way we're proceeding with this investigation," FBI Special Agent in Charge Jim Davis said during a news conference.

Kayleah Wilson has not been since Sunday around 3:40 p.m. when she left her house to walk to a birthday party. The walk was supposed to only be eight to 10 blocks, but Kayleah never arrived at the party.

Investigators say they do not believe this is a runaway situation, but have also found no signs of foul play.

Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner says they are going through "foot-slogging police work" to try and find the girl.

"We've been working this case pretty much around the clock since Sunday night," Garner said. "We have a huge amount of leads in this case. Every single one of them has to be tracked down."

Davis said while they have some leads, they cannot discuss them with the public.

"There is, at this moment, no higher priority to the Denver division of the FBI. We have significant resources here assisting in this investigation," Davis said. "We're not excluding anything at this time."

In addition to releasing more pictures of Kayleah, the FBI also showed pictures of her inhaler. She has asthma and investigators are asking that anyone who has seen a red-and-white inhaler to contact them because it could be a clue.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Empty KAYLEAH WILSON CASE: Greeley police, FBI release new photos, ask for public's help

Post by Wrapitup Sat Apr 03, 2010 2:35 am

Officials from Greeley police and the FBI released these new photos of Kayleah Wilson, who went missing Sunday.

Federal Bureau of Investigation, Greeley police, and Weld County Sheriff's deputies talk to diverted motorists at a roadblock in the parking lot of the Greeley Mall on Friday afternoon. The three agencies were looking for more information on missing 12 year-old, Kayleah Wilson.

This is a photo of an asthma inhaler that is the same brand that Kayleah Wilson had with her when she went missing Sunday. Officials are asking that if someone sees an inhaler like this that they don't touch it and call police.

Fifty people from the FBI, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are now in Greeley working the disappearance of Kayleah Wilson.

And, they announced Friday they still need the public's help.

The 12-year-old girl left her home for a birthday party Sunday afternoon and never arrived.

She has not been seen for five days, and Greeley police and the FBI held a press conference Friday to announce they need more help.

“We're doing basic police work right now,” said Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner. “re-interviewing people, checking leads.”

Garner and FBI Special Agent In Charge James Davis said they hope people continue to call in tips to help in the search for the girl.

“It's like you pass a traffic accident and you don't call in because you assume someone else called,” Garner said. “Don't assume we know everything about this case. Even if you don't think it's important, we need people to call us.”

New photos of Kayleah were provided to the investigators by her friends, and the photos show her appearance has changed since the first school photo was taken.

They also passed out photos of a asthma inhaler of the same brand the girl uses. “If someone sees this inhaler somewhere, please don't touch it,” said FBI spokesman Dave Joly. “We want to be able to get evidence and fingerprints from it.”

To call the Greeley police, (970) 350-9600. The FBI tip-line is 1-800-CALL-FBI.

GREELEY — FBI and local law enforcement officials Friday dramatically stepped up their search for a missing 12-year-old girl, who seemingly vanished without a trace nearly a week ago.

"I think people in the Greeley area who are out and about are going to see much more of a presence" of police looking for Kayleah Wilson, police Chief Jerry Garner said.

Shortly after a 2 p.m. news conference in which more photos of Kayleah were released to the media, FBI agents and local police began diverting traffic off of side streets into parking lots at the Greeley Mall. There they asked drivers if they saw anything unusual around the time Kayleah disappeared Sunday afternoon.

More than 25 Weld County sheriff's deputies,
The Greeley Police Department in conjunction with the FBI and Greely Sheriff's Department held a press conference Friday April 2, 2010 to discuss information and release photos of missing teen Kayleah Wilson who has been mising. Follwing the press conference they set a perimeter around the south end of the Greeley Mall to stop vehicles, ask questions, gather information and search trunks.

Greeley and Evans police officers and FBI agents participated in the diversion.

"People understand what is going on and the community is behind this," said Greeley Sgt. Juan Cruz.

The diversion continued until 5 p.m. and may be repeated on Sunday.

Earlier Friday, Garner and Jim Davis, the FBI's special agent in charge of the Denver office, said more than 50 investigators are looking for Kayleah. The girl has not been seen since Sunday afternoon, when she left her west Greeley home to walk eight blocks to a friend's birthday party. Her mother reported her missing Sunday around 10 p.m.

The FBI joined the investigation Wednesday.

Davis said a team from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the FBI's child abduction team have also begun to look for the missing 12-year-old.

The FBI is making the search for Kayleah its top priority and is using every resource and asking for more help from the public to get information about her whereabouts, Davis said.

"We have to assume the worst, that's our job," Davis said. "We assume the worst and hope for the best. And that's the way we are proceeding with our investigation."

Besides the new photos of Kayleah, police also released a photo of the red-and-white asthma inhaler she likely is carrying. She had no other items with her at the time of her disappearance, police said.

They have had more than 100 leads in the case but are looking for more.

"We really are in great need of assistance from the public," Davis said. "Please don't assume that we already know something."

They also said they have interviewed Kayleah's biological father, who lives in California. Although her father said he has not seen his daughter, police said that does not mean she is not trying to travel to him.

"We have not washed out the possibility that she has left on her own," Davis said.

She is a sixth-grader at Brentwood Middle School, where students have launched their own search for her through social-network sites.

A Facebook page has been set up for Kayleah: "Prayers for Kayleah Wilson's Safe Return," and a candlelight vigil is planned for her on Friday at the Higher Grounds activity center on 11th Avenue in north Greeley.

I haven't seen any interviews or anything, but just from what was quoted from the mother, I get the impression that maybe she is not too well off, so maybe not many pictures(?)...Also, I thought it odd that she was at the police station for 12 hours one day...I wonder how that relationship was, if there was conflict about the boyfriend--Maybe a fight and the girl ran away(?) Has anyone seen the Mom in interviews or pictures?

April Wilson says Kayleah is a sweet girl and a wonderful daughter. Just like police, she does not know what happened to her.

"I'm not doing very well at all. I'm just taking it minute by minute, day by day, trying to stay strong and positive and not go totally batty," Wilson said.

Wilson said her daughter likes the color pink and enjoys pizza, and that her favorite band is called Celtic Thunder.

I have been pretty quiet on this case. Even if Kayleah mom had no car she could of and should have walked her daughter to that party. The 17 yr old boyfriend is very telling of how little Kayleah mom supervised her. Now she wants sympathy? The only person I feel sorry for is Kayleah. It is her Mothers fault she is missing.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Empty Missing 12-Year-Old Kayleah Wilson Disappeared Sunday Just Blocks from Her Home

Post by Nama Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:18 pm

Kayleah Wilson has been missing for nearly a week. The 12-year-old Greeley, Colorado, girl was last seen last Sunday by her mother as she left her home to walk a few blocks to meet a friend before walking to another friend's birthday party. That party was about eight blocks away in a residential area. The friend's house was just a couple blocks away. Kayleah Wilson never made it to the first friend's house.

Over 50 FBI agents and support staff have joined the case since Tuesday, after police were notified Sunday evening that the 12-year-old was missing. Thus far, police have found no evidence suggesting that Kayleigh Wilson either ran away or was the victim of foul play. Dogs have been brought in to help in the search and the missing girl's home has been searched for any kind of evidence -- including DNA and forensic evidence -- that might lead authorities to wherever the young girl might be at present.

HLN's "Nancy Grace" featured the story Friday evening, interviewing reporters and Dave Joly of the FBI. Joly noted that the investigation has received over 100 tips so far and insisted that the focus was to get the 12-year-old home safely. Jean Casarez, who was sitting in as host for Nancy Grace, asked about a 17-year-old boyfriend, but Joly maintained that he was not part of the FBI's investigation.

However, Troy Coverdale, news director of KFKA radio in Greeley, told Jean Casarez that the 17-year-old (who hasn't been identified) was an ex-boyfriend and had been questioned by the police, but he was not a person of interest.

Casarez, who is a CNN (HLN's sister network) correspondent for their "In Session" program that takes a look at legal cases across the nation, went straight to the heart of the matter. "The reason I ask you about a boyfriend," she explained, "and her mother possibly not liking a boyfriend, breaking up -- my gut tells me you don't think this is a runaway situation because you would not have 50 FBI agents on this case, in addition to all the other local and state enforcements."

Dave Joly responded: "This is the top priority right now for the Denver division of the FBI, and we`re leaving no stone unturned and we`re ruling out no suspects. And all of the clues and information that we`ve received is all on the table."

An Amber Alert, which follows criteria regarding child abduction, was not issued.

Investigators are using as a focus in their search an inhaler Kayleah Wilson may have been carrying. Joly told "Nancy Grace" that the young girl was asthmatic and usually carried it on her person -- in a pocket. Pat Brown, famed criminal profiler, later appeared on the show and commended the FBI for sharing that bit of information, because just a small thing like a dropped or discarded inhaler could lead investigators to the missing girl.

Brown also noted, along with Casarez, that there were 133 registered sex offenders in the area around Kayleah Wilson's home. Profiling for "Nancy Grace," she noted that sexual predators tended to go after thin girls, a description that does not fit Kayleah Wilson (described as "pudgy"). Pat Brown noted that people who knew the girl was more likely to be involved in her disappearance.

Cases where young children or adolescents go missing rarely reach the stage where they remain missing for long. The young individual is generally found at a friend's or a relative's house, the situation haven arisen from miscommunication or rebellion. But there are cases, like that of 10-year-old Lindsey Baum, who went missing while walking home from a friend's house at twilight in June 2009 in McCleary, Washington. Authorities were able to ascertain that she was within a few blocks of her home when she went disappeared. She remains missing and her parents still hold out hope that she remains alive.

But there are cases where the missing child is found dead, like that of 14-year-old Amber Dubois, who was recently found (March 6) in a secluded area on the Pala Indian Reservation in southern California. She disappeared in February 2009 while walking to school in Escondido. It is unfortunate cases like Amber Dubois' that spur old and cold investigations to a renewal of effort in searching for the missing. Those same cases are motivators to treat investigations like Kayleah Wilson's as a matter of immediate urgency.

Kayleigh Wilson is described as 5' 1" in height and weighing approximately 145 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a white and pink shirt, jeans, and red and white shoes.

Investigators are asking that anyone with any information regarding the disappearance of 12-year-old Kayleah Wilson come forward or contact the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9600.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Empty Kayleah Wilson case: Mom of missing girl's friend takes action

Post by Nama Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:21 pm

A Greeley girl who is a good friend of missing Kayleah Wilson said Friday that the girl had never talked about running away or going to California to see her father.

Kayleah, 12, lives in south Greeley, and left her home last Sunday afternoon to walk to a friend's birthday party. She never arrived at the party and never returned home.

Dozens of Greeley police officers and FBI agents have been working the case, interviewing and re-interviewing friends and relatives. No trace of the girl has yet been found, although that also means investigators haven't found any evidence of foul play.

Jessica Thompson, 12, attends a different school than Kayleah, but they attend church together at Abundant Life Fellowship.

“She's a great friend,” Jessica said Friday morning. “She's a lot of fun to hang out with at the mall or go to movies. I was going to ask her to spend the night at my house, but then...” Jessica's voice trailed off when she spoke of her friend's disappearance.

Jessica said she found out about her missing friend early this week when a police officer came to Heath Middle School with a picture. “I asked him, ‘Is that Kayleah?' and he said it was and asked some questions about her.”

Kayleah's father lives in California and hasn't seen his daughter for several years. Some family members speculated she may have gone to California to see him, but police have been in constant touch with the father and he denies knowing anything about the disappearance.

Kayleah also apparently had a boyfriend who may be 17 years old, but Jessica Thompson said Kayleah never said anything to her about a boyfriend.

Jessica's mother, Michelle Thompson, doesn't know Kayleah, but she set up a Facebook page — “Prayers for Kayleah Wilson's Safe Return” — for those who are supporting and praying for the Wilson family.

“My daughter is good friends with Kayleah,” Thompson said, “and we wanted to do something for the community; to give people a chance to connect.”

Thompson also has arranged a candlelight vigil for Kayleah to be held Friday at the Higher Grounds activity center on 11th Avenue in north Greeley.

“Friday nights are kids' nights at the center,” Thompson said. “It was too soon to set it up for (Friday night), but we have planned the vigil for next Friday.

“We can only hope that she's back home and safe by then.”

She sounds like a wonderful mother to do this. I am sure Jessica is hurting. I do wonder WHY Kayleah wouldn't have told Jessica about the 17 yr. old boyfriend.

I would love to know what Michelle Thompson thinks about that. I doubt she would allow Jessica to "date" a boy of that age.

Casarez, who is a CNN (HLN's sister network) correspondent for their "In Session" program that takes a look at legal cases across the nation, went straight to the heart of the matter. I really like Jean Casarez. She is quite direct w/out being obtrusive and overly dramatic like NG and gets right to the heart of the matter. She is also IMO, very pretty and a damned good attorney.

What she said to Dave Joly was perfect. I am in total agreement. I do NOT think this was a runaway. I hope I am wrong.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Empty No obvious clues were found Saturday

Post by Nama Sat Apr 03, 2010 8:45 pm

Searchers spent hours on Saturday combing fields near the home of Kayleah Wilson.
The 12-year-old Greeley girl went missing last Sunday on her way to a friend's birthday party.
Dozens of volunteers joined the Weld County sheriff's posse on foot and on horseback searching through undeveloped areas of long grasses, trees and bushes less than a mile from where the girl was last seen.

"We're making sure we're checking those areas that are not well traveled," said Greeley police Sgt. Joseph Tymkowych.
Tymkowych said they weren't looking for anything specific, but rather, anything considered suspicious.
"The possibilities are numerous, but unless we get there and look through we never really know for sure what is there and if we missed something," he said.

No obvious clues were found Saturday. However, he said searchers may have collected some items for investigation. For example, he said something like a pop can or water bottle might be taken in to be fingerprinted.
Investigators planned to do another search Sunday along 29th Street where there are some abandoned builidings. Tymkowych said they may eventually call in divers to search a nearby pond as well.
The FBI told 7NEWS they have recieved several more tips that they're checking out. They continue to urge anyone with information to call 800-CALL-FBI or 800-225-5324.

I found this forum on the facebook group I have started for Kayleah and her family.
To who started thanks, its a wonderful idea.
I don't know The Wilson family nor have I met Kayleah. I started the facebook group as a way for everyone to come together to pray, communicate ideas, and support the family. Also there is no amber alert so this was a way for word to get out Kayleah is missing.
Whoever said, " I bet Jessica cant date" is right. Jessica is not allowed to talk to boys. Every mom raises her child differently. I have asked Jessica about the boyfriend thing time and time again, I have also asked her if Kayleah ever said anything about talking to boys and she said no she never did. Alot of little girls Kayleah and Jessica's age have crushes. We don't know for sure if she did have a 17 year old boyfriend.
I just ask that we all continue to pray for her safe return home. This is every parents worst nightmare.
If you would like to join Kayleah's facebook page it is Prayers for Kayleah Wilson Safe Return.
Thank you and God Bless
Michelle Thompson

Welcome to VH, Michelle. You had a great idea starting the Forum on Facebook to help in the search for Kayleah. You're a great role model for YOUR daughter who must be having a very difficult time dealing with the disappearance of her friend. We're all hoping, along with you, for Kayleah's safe return.

When 9NEWS asked April Wilson about Kayleah's ex-boyfriend, she also would not comment.
He ( Sgt. Joe Tymkowych) says Kayleah had a boyfriend, who has been interviewed and is cooperating. He is not considered a suspect or person of interest.
It sounds to me like Kayleah did have a boyfriend.

Lisette,
Most girls do talk to eachother at that age about "boyfriends". I do know that most of Jessica's friends tell her about "boyfriends". Jessica tells me about them. I have the relationship with Jessica that she tells me everything that goes on in her life.

BJ,
Yes it does sound like that, but it makes me think what mom would allow it. Also if that is the case, why hasnt he been charged? CO has a law about minors dating if there is a 5 year age difference.

Lots of moms would allow their 12 year old to date, when they should be playing with Barbie Dolls. I wonder if Kayleah's mother was married or had a boyfriend of her own. Not much has been said about the family aside from the fact that Kayleah hadn't seen her father or stepfather for several years.
In order for the boyfriend to be charged with "whatever" with a 12 year old, someone would have had to file a complaint....the mother should have done that if he wouldn't stay away. I would imagine right now LE is more interested in finding Kayleah than charging the boyfriend with doing whatever with a minor.

I'd like to wish you a warm Welcome to VH. I found your Facebook page and put our website on it. I wasn't sure if it went through as it said it had gone into Facebook's "filter", but it looks like you did see it and I am very happy you are here.

What you are doing is phenomenal as I am sure you have a full plate, like most mother's.

I do have a few questions: Kayleah was never at your house? Were she and Jessica good friends or more acquaintances? I did notice in her pics upthread that her looks have changed dramatically. She has dyed her hair darker and is dressing rather punkish. Also, in the new pics, she looks older than 12. This makes me wonder IF she was involved with a 17 year old. Maybe he is not "a person of interest" (despise that term!) but knows more than he is saying. I wonder if he has taken a poly. I also wonder if these friends that were at the party have taken poly's.

Even though she never mentioned her father to Jessica, I am sure she probably missed him. For us girls, our father is our first love of the opposite sex. Many girls look for boys that are like their father in some way.

My point is that if she had a seemingly dysnfunctional long distance relationship w/her father and the 17 year old boy and she parted ways..she may have gone to this party with a lot on her mind like kids at that age (puberty is rough!) and someone either put something in her soda OR there was booze and she imbibed. She may have wandered out of the party intoxicated and been kidnapped.

I would also like to know whose party this was and were the parents there?

And my last question which has been asked before: what do we know about Kayleah's mother. Does Kayleah have siblings?

Kayleah had been at our house 2 times. Never to stay the night.
Kayleah was following her older brothers footsteps as far as her dressing went. It seems to be the style in our town. Punkish.
What we understand as far as the party, it was for a friend from school. Jessica and Kayleah attend different schools.
Sadly, most girls don't look 12. I know that mine doesnt. One of the issues we have daily. Jessica has been told she looks much older, about the age of 15. I have strict clothing rules. I have told her over and over that she isnt allowed to date till she is 25. God knows I cant stop that but like to think I can.
I dont know much about the family, so cant say about her mom. Kayleah has 2 siblings. 17 years old and 4 years old

Kayleah goes by her stepfather's name, not her father's......unless her father's last name is Wilson, too. I don't believe the father's name has been released.

Not as great as you might think. Aware of three situations here in my small rural community. One is because the woman married the brother of her x-husband. Happens more often than one might guess.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Empty Mother attempts to hang on to hope despite discouraging results

Post by Nama Mon Apr 05, 2010 12:37 am

On a day when Christians celebrate a miracle, Darin and Lynette Greghorn gathered April Wilson in a circle and prayed for one.

Even as hope gets harder and harder to find, a week after her daughter, Kayleah, 12, disappeared, April prayed in the Northern Colorado Cowboy Church for something good to happen.

She reminded herself to hope. She picked the Cowboy Church to attend Easter services — Sunday was only her second time there — because Kayleah told her mother she wanted to go there for Easter before she left for a friend's birthday party. She hasn't been seen since.

“Honestly,” April said, “I wanted her to walk through the doors. It would have been lovely.”

That didn't happen, but April and her mother, Brenda Jamison, still had reasons to hope. At least 60 agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, 25 to 30 officers from the Greeley Police Department and others from the Weld County Sheriff's Office worked through Easter to hunt for any scrap of Kayleah's whereabouts. They combed the eight to 10 blocks where they think Kayleah might have walked to the party in Evans, mostly in the cornfields and ditches and areas behind a lumberyard, all of it raked by the weekend's powerful spring winds as well as the areas surrounding the Greeley Mall.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home Missing_Colorado_Gi_516123l

Authorities are canvassing neighborhoods and talking to motorists in Greeley, Colo., as the search for a missing 12-year-old girl continues.

This undated photo provided by the Greeley Police Department shows Kayleah Wilson. Wilson, 12, was last seen Sunday afternoon, March 28, 2010, while going to a friend's birthday party with only the clothes on her back and an asthma inhaler. Authorities say she never arrived at the birthday party. (AP Photo/Greeley Police Department) NO SALES

Kayleah (Kay LEE uh) Wilson was last seen the afternoon of March 28 when she left home to walk to a friend's birthday party about a mile away, across a busy highway.

On Sunday, one week after she disappeared, police planned to stop cars in the area and ask drivers if they noticed anything a week before.

Police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych says authorities are also searching two residential areas near the girl's home, including one that wouldn't have been on her way to the birthday party.

A search of some ponds and a wooded, undeveloped area Saturday turned up no sign of Kayleah, a sixth-grader who weighs 145 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Kayleah Wilson, 12-year-old, missing in Greeley, Colorado/ UPDATE: The body of Kayleah Wilson has been found in an irrigation ditch near her home 23040240_240X180

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been looking for the Greeley girl since last week. More than 200 tips have been called into the FBI.
The Weld County Sheriff's Office is also searching for Wilson and provided the following tips for anyone who wants to help in the search:

Check and look along road sides, back roads, fields, dump areas that you may know about in the county or in the towns or areas you drive to or live near. These may be areas that you routinely drive, walk, run, jog, etc. Check any ditches or areas that are typically hard to see when driving by at high speeds. Other potential areas to check are under bridges, in abandoned barns or structures that are not normally occupied, abandoned vehicles, etc.
If you notice a suspicious odor in an area, or see activities in or around abandoned homes or property; if you happen to see circling birds or gathering predators, like coyotes in or around an area, check it out to see if it is safe, or contact the local law enforcement agency near you to have it checked out.
If you own property that is not currently occupied, check it out to make sure it is still secure and that everything inside is in order and as you expect it to be. If you know your neighbor is not home and you have permission to go on their property, check for any broken windows, doors, or suspicious activity or things that may appear out of place to you.
If you live in a rural area and know your neighbors are gone for extended periods of time, drive by those areas and make note of any unusual cars, vehicles or things that appear out of place and are not consistent with what you are familiar with.
If you live near an empty home or building, watch for any suspicious activity or unusual people or vehicles in or around the structure that are not normally there.
Do NOT go in any buildings or homes that you do not own or trespass on private property, to search any areas.
If you see or suspect anything suspicious, do not attempt to pick it up, touch it or contaminate the immediate surrounding areas. If you leave the area before authorities arrive try to leave the same way you came in so other potential items are not disturbed or contaminated.
If a suspicious incident is in progress and you are concerned for public safety always call 911.
If the situation is not an emergency, call the Greeley Police Department at 970-350-9600 or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324)

A 12 year-old Greeley girl, who loves the Irish folk group Celtic Thunder and spends much of her time at the library, remained missing Sunday as searchers continued to track a growing collection of leads.
Police, FBI agents and volunteers scoured the area around Greeley for Kayleah Wilson, last seen March 28 as she left her home to walk to a friend's birthday party.
Local and national media coverage of the search led to a spate of calls to the FBI.
"All of these leads are being followed up by the Greeley Police Department and FBI agents working on the investigation," FBI spokesman Dave S. Joly said in a statement.
Authorities searched ponds and a wooded area on Saturday but found no sign of the girl.
The missing girl's brother, Mackenzie, 17, and some friends, have joined in the search, said Ken Turner, Kayleah's cousin, who is acting as spokesman for the family.
"He went to the Poudre River Trail passing out flyers, he went down in the rocks and checked out the underbrush and spoke to some people who appeared to be homeless," Turner said.
Kayleah, a Brentwood Middle School student, is studious, well-liked by teachers, loves music and is "always at the library," Turner said.
The sixth grader had recently broken up with her 17-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend has been questioned and is cooperating with the investigation. Police have said he is not considered a person of interest.
Kayleah is 5-foot, 1-inch tall, 145 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. She was last seen wearing a white and pink shirt over a white tank top, blue-jeans and white and red shoes.
Anyone with information about the disappearance can call 1-800-CALL-FBI

She never showed up at the party. She had to cross a busy highway..someone stopped and either forced her into their car or she got in thinking she would get a ride. It has to be one of the two. For all we know, this person has taken her out of state.

BJ, thanks for all the updates.

I wasn't going to get involved in another one. I was so busy with Caylee and now Morgan.

But this little gal has caught my eye. She certainly did change in appearance between the two pictures. More punk and older acting.

They say show me your friends and I will know you. Funny how she spent so much time at the library. Our local library is the hangout for the towns punks. They hang around outside mostly until they do something and the police are called.

I wonder if she really hung out that much at the library or used that as an excuse.

The more time that passes the more I worry that the end won't be a good ending.

By the way mothers. Tell your daughters and sons how it is going to be. Don't allow your children to do things you don't approve of and certainly don't buy clothes you don't want them to wear.

You set the curfews, you set the standards, you approve the friends. These are children. It starts when they are babies and not when they are 12 and 13. Raise them well and you will have maybe not so many problems.

Take back the night?? I say Take back your children!

Stepping off soap box and fading into the kitchen. Sorry sometimes I wonder what mothers are thinking???

Post by Nama Mon Apr 05, 2010 4:03 pm

Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the return of Kayleah Wilson, the 12-year-old Greeley girl who disappeared more than a week ago.

"There are people who may know something and haven't come forward with it," FBI Special Agent in Charge Jim Davis said during a Monday afternoon press conference. "We're hoping that by offering a reward, we may drive those folks into coming in to talk to us."
