LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A convicted rapist accused of killing a 16-year-old girl he met online pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder Wednesday, several days after authorities found the girl's body in a blue, plastic barrel in western Arkansas.
A judge appointed a public defender to represent Lloyd Jones, 36, in the case of Angela Allen's death. The public defender's office said an attorney hasn't yet been assigned.

He was being held at the Sebastian County jail on $1 million bond.

Allen went missing Feb. 10 after telling a relative she was going for a walk. Her body was found Friday inside the barrel on land owned by Jones' brother near Lavaca, about 15 miles east of Fort Smith.

Authorities said Jones told investigators that he picked the teenager up Feb. 10 at a hospital parking lot in Van Buren and took her to the Arkansas River. Court documents allege he told investigators he decided not to take her to his home in nearby Lavaca because his girlfriends "might become upset with him."

According to the documents, Jones said he was making out with Allen, but then "violently pushed her into the water and left her there" after she told him her age.

Sheriff's deputies searching land owned by Jones' brother found a body and identified it as Allen using dental records. A preliminary autopsy showed she died of strangulation and that no fluid was found in her lungs.

Officers tracked down Jones after finding multiple text messages on the teen's cellphone from his number, a sheriff's investigator wrote in an affidavit. Authorities discovered that Jones was convicted of rape in 2001 and found him by tracing his cellphone.

Investigators also questioned one of his girlfriends, who said Jones would take his laptop to Starbucks to talk to people through social networking websites.

Jones told authorities he used one site, Mbuzzy.com, to communicate with Allen, who also had an account with that site, sheriff's investigator Anthony Sacco wrote. Court documents allege that Jones also told investigators that when he and Allen were at the river, he hit her in the chest and knocked her into the water.

"He thought that (Angela) might have been unable to swim, because her arms might have been injured when she was struck," Sacco wrote.

One of Jones' girlfriends told authorities that his clothes and shoes were covered in mud when he came home that night.

Authorities arrested him last week in connection with Allen's disappearance. While he was in jail, authorities said, Jones' father stopped by and asked him what was going on.

During the recorded visit, authorities allege that Jones asked, "Did they find her?" and said, "I panicked -- I did it."

Court records filed in 2001 show that a jury found Jones guilty of rape after a prosecutor said he held a box cutter to a woman's throat, duct-taped her mouth and sexually assaulted her. A judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

He was paroled in 2008 and discharged in 2010, according to a prison spokeswoman.

Normal UPDATE: Lloyed Jones Pleads Guilty To The Murder Of Angela Allen, Sentenced To 60 Years In Prison

August 15, 2012

A registered sex offender pled guilty Wednesday morning to murdering 16-year-old Angela Allen. A judge sentenced Lloyd Jones, 36, to 60 years in prison.

Allen’s family was inside the courtroom when Jones entered the guilty plea. “I am ecstatic,” said Colleen Allen, Allen’s grandmother. “Angie’s got her justice.”

Colleen watched as Jones admitted he murdered her granddaughter. “I just wanted him to know that what he did was wrong,” she said.

Jones met the Van Buren girl online, police said. “I wish I would have known more what she was doing,” said Cecilia Reynolds, Allen’s mother.

Allen disappeared the evening of Feb. 10 after telling family she was going for walk. Police said she was with Jones near the Arkansas River at an area commonly known as the “Mud Town Bottoms.” They were making out, and Jones said he became angry when he learned Allen was only 16.

Jones told police he struck the girl and shoved her into the water.

Deputies found Allen’s body on Jones’ property outside Lavaca in February. Investigators say Allen was strangled, her leg cut, and stuffed in a barrel. “He didn’t have to kill her,” said Reynolds. “He didn’t have to strangle her. He didn’t have to do what he did.”

Jones will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. Allen’s family and friends took the stand on her behalf before the sentencing. Allen’s brother, Seth, said to Jones “you’re a disgrace to this planet.”

“You can’t just take someone away from this world and there not be any real consequences from it,” said Seth.

Colleen asked Jones why he did it. When given the opportunity to speak, Jones did not have anything to say. “He would not look at me,” said Colleen. “I know for a fact I will never get my answers.”

Family and friends wore pink pins in the courtroom that read “Justice 4 Angie.” Allen’s mother says the 60 year sentence is justice for her daughter. “That’s what I’m thankful for, he can’t hurt another innocent bystander.”

Colleen says she forgives Jones, but that does not bring back Allen. “I did a lot of heavy praying about it and I want my family to heal, and the only way my family will be able to heal is through forgiveness,” said Colleen. “The main questions is can he forgive himself? I don’t think so.”

Jones will not be eligible for parole until he turns 96-years-old.

The prosecuting attorney’s office says Jones also pled guilty to having child pornography and abuse of a corpse. 5NEWS did not see any of Jones’ family or friends in the courtroom Wednesday.

Jones was convicted of rape in April 2001 in Sebastian County. Court documents state he broke into a woman’s house, held a box cutter to her throat, and raped her.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison, and was released on parole in September 2008.
