Body found in Cottage Grove that of Tyrone Adair

DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Dane County authorities have confirmed that the body found in a vehicle near Cottage Grove is that of Tyrone Adair, the man suspected of killing two women and two children late last week.

At a news conference held Monday afternoon, the Dane County Coroner confirmed the identity of the body and says preliminary investigation suggests he died of a "firearm injury." An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.

Madison Police Chief Noble Wray said Monday this incident will go down as one of the worst in Dane County and that should be cause for pause. He says their hearts go out to the victims' families and the Adair family, who he praised for their assistance in the investigation.

According to Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney and Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard, there is no reason to believe at this time that anyone helped Adair hide out between the time of the murders on Thursday and when his body was found Monday.

The land owner at the property near Cottage Grove where Adair's body was found said he first noticed the GMC Acadia Friday but believed it to be that of a friend's until further investigation. That's when he called police to report the suspicious vehicle.

Last updated 12/07/2009 at 12:00 PM by PIO Joel DeSpain
Incident Type Murder/Homicide
Incident Date 12/03/2009 - 6:07 PM
Address 6800 block Park Edge Drive
Victim Female Adult
Female Child
Details (UPDATED 12/7/2009)
This morning the vehicle law enforcement had been seeking in connection with the Madison, and Town of Middleton homicides was found in the Town of Cottage Grove.
The GMC Acadia was parked on Natvig Road, next to an out-building, and the early investigation indicates it may have been in this location for several days.

Located inside the vehicle was a deceased adult male.

The Madison Police Department, the Dane County Sheriff’s Department, the Middleton Police Department, the Dane County Coroner, and the Dane County District Attorney are currently coordinating the release of additional information on this development.

(UPDATED 11/4/2009 1:10 P.M.)

The preliminary investigation into the homicides would indicate the two children appear to be the biological daughters of the person of interest: Tyrone M. Adair, age 38. This information will need to be confirmed by the Dane County Coroner. His office is in the process of conducting autopsies on the four victims at this hour.

Law enforcement across the country has been asked to be on the alert for Mr. Adair. It is not known if he is still in the Dane County area, or has fled elsewhere. Numbers of tips are coming in, and teams of detectives are pursuing each.

The Madison Police Department is working hand in hand with the Middleton Police Department, and the Dane County Sheriff’s Department on these two horrific crimes.

Mr. Adair was last known to be wearing: a black Northface brand vest, a green long-sleeved shirt – possibly a fleece, camouflage pants, and a baseball style cap.

(UPDATED RELEASE 9:15 A.M. FRIDAY 11/4/2009)

Mr. Adair remains at large. The Madison Police Department is actively working with multiple law enforcement agencies casting a wide dragnet to bring him in. Anyone seeing Mr. Adair, or the vehicle he is likely driving (please see earlier release) should call 911 immediately. Again, he is considered armed and dangerous. There are no news conferences slated at this time, but obviously this remains a fluid situation, and that could change. Please check this Incident Report site for further details.

(UPDATED RELEASE/Early Friday morning 11/4)

A second crime scene was discovered tonight in the 2600 block of Branch Street in the City of Middleton. An adult female, and a female child were found inside a vehicle located in a parking lot.

These are the two other victims referenced in the original release. Both cases are being treated as double homicides.

Mr. Adair is a person of interest in all four.

(ORGINAL RELEASE)
On Thursday night, shortly after 6:00 p.m., Madison Police were called to a residence in the 6800 block of Park Edge Drive. A female adult and her young daughter were found in a vehicle that was parked in a garage at the home. Both suffered fatal gun shot wounds. The Madison Police Department is treating the deaths as a double homicide. They are believed to be linked to two other deaths also discovered tonight in Dane County. That case also involves a woman and a young child. The Madison Police Department does have a person of interest. He is Tyrone M. Adair, age 38. Mr. Adair could be driving a silver GMC Acadia with Wisconsin license plate 342-EBL. Mr. Adair should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or anyone who sees the Acadia should call 911 immediately.

UPDATE: 12/5/2009 @ 1245:

Murder suspect Tyrone Adair found dead in Cottage Grove

Dane County Coroner Ray Wosepka said Tuesday that Tyrone Adair died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
That is Wosepka's conclusion after an autopsy on Tuesday. Adair's body was found Monday.

Adair was suspected in four shooting deaths Thursday. He called a family member late Thursday and sounded remorseful, Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney said Monday.

The vehicle in which Adair was found on Monday was first seen at that location on Friday. The person who owns the property where the vehicle was found thought it belonged to a friend. But on Monday, he called authorities, leading to the discover of Adair's body.

Adair was suspected in the shooting deaths of Amber Weigel, 25, Neveah Weigel-Adair , 2, Tracy Judd, 33, and Deja Adair, 23 months, all on Thursday. He was the father of the two children.
