Drugged mom wakes, finds baby dead
26-year-old Megin Gray excels at being a loser. I mean, she has gone over and above bad parenting with this trifecta of tardtabulous f**k ups.
Gray went to bed, Monday, after partaking in what I like to refer to a “the combo plan”. The “combo” being alcohol mixed with several types of drugs. In Gray’s case, the drugs of choice were Xanax and Percocet. I take Xanax when I fly… That shit will f**k you up without adding alcohol to it. Luckily for me, my husband flies with me, so my son is never neglected. Wait…. I don’t want to deviate from this tale of dumbassery. When Gray woke from her combo plan stupor, about 12 hours later, she found her 9-month-old daughter next to a baseboard heater and severely burned from head to toe on the left side of the body. Skankalicious rushed the baby to the hospital but it was too late. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Wait…. Did I mention that this whore had 3 other children (ages 4, 3, and 2)? And luckily her neck was fat enough to tattoo all of their names on it. Classy…. There was also another couple with a child living in the apartment. I’m not sure where they were at he time – I can only imagine that they weren’t home because how did no one hear that baby screaming? She had to have mad some sort of sound, right? I’m not blaming anyone but the skanktard, I’m just sayin’….
Gray told police she took the drugs and drank the alcohol before falling asleep in the bed with the baby. She woke up the next morning to find the baby unconscious.
I know… I know…. You all wanna know who knocked this fugly, ignorant broad up and where in the fuckovit was he while his baby was being burnt to a crisp. He’s in federal prison, of course.
Gray is currently being held on a second degree criminal abuse charge and is being held on $25,000 cash bond. Her prelim hearing is scheduled for January 26th. An autopsy of her daughter will determine if her charges will be upgraded. They are trying to determine if the infant was alive or dead before she was burnt. If convicted on the criminal abuse charge, Gray could face one to five years in prison. Hardly seems fair. 5 years for taking away a baby’s entire life.
Gray’s other daughters and the child of the couple who also lived in the apartment were all taken into state custody. That sort of sounds like the other couple was home during Gray’s lack of sobriety. Who knows?
On a side note, this is not Gray’s first time at the rodeo. She has herself quite the arrest record. Her prior arrests include alcohol intoxication, not having insurance and other traffic charges. In 2005, she was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon. She was found guilty and sentenced to 90 days in jail. Hmm. Maybe she’ll have some girls that’ll be happy to see her again.
Thanks go to Erin , Shal (Cynical Me), Jamie and my pet, Deena.

Welcome Tracy!
I agree that this case is horrible!! I'm sure as a new mother yourself, it must be even worse to read about a baby suffering in such a way. I really hope that this baby didn't suffer for long - maybe she was suffocated before she was burned. However it happened, I'm glad she is safe forever in God's loving arms.
Critter, that article was brutally honest! I can't believe this "mom" only received 90 days in jail!

I found this website because I was hoping to hear the autopsy report, I am hoping to hear that the baby was dead before she was burned, I have a feeling this is not the case. I wish I hadn't heard this story, it makes me worry so much about other poor babies who are born into such horror. I wish there was something I could do. I can't believe she is only going to get five years max. Disgusting.

Welcome to VH Tracy!
I so hope that the autopsy finds that this poor baby was dead prior to being burned! I cannot even conceive it any other way. Yeah, five years, what do you want to bet that when she gets out she drinks/uses again? She'll probably get her other children back too. This thing of a Mom should be spayed, right now.

Well, this is interesting. After I signed off of VH, I went to check the Cincinnati/NKY news and I found another article about Megin Gray. I booked marked it, because it was late and intended to go back and post it today. Well, the little blurp is all that there is today. It comes up blank. In essence, her lady lawyer is really defending her as a Mother that loves her children. She had one bedroom with one bed for her and all of her children. The night that this happened Megin happened to have all of her children with her and they were all in the same bed sleeping. What gets me is she took those drugs and drank 2 beers while having her children that she loves so much, even when she was responsible for them. Her lawyer was defending her saying that she took the drugs and drank the beers earlier and that the alcohol would have already been out of her system and she was not high at the time. The lawyer also said that all Megin is doing is crying, I forget the adjective used by the lawyer. That is what I remember when I read the article.
I wonder why is was taken down.???????
I will post the article if it shows again. I am just drawing a blank page now.

Lawyer: Mom was caring
The lawyer for Megin Gray, mother of the girl found dead and burned near a baseboard heater, says Gray deeply cared for the infant and was not "high and drunk at the time."

Welcome to VH Tracy. Raine and Tracy, I believe Megin's lawyer is trying to defend her that the baby was suffocated before it was burned. I guess that is a possibility with all of the children plus her on one mattress, I have never read what size mattress it was either. She probably did love her children, but her lifestyle sure did not live up to a "loving mother" to me. JMOO!!!

Lawyer: Accused mom loves her kids
COVINGTON - The mother of a 9-month-old girl pronounced dead after being found burned near a baseboard heater deeply cared for the infant, her lawyer says.
"My main concern over this entire case is the implication by some that somehow this is a reckless mom that didn't care about her children," said Jamie Jameson, the public defender for the mother, Megin Gray. "That is just not the case. This is a woman who loved her children very much. She is destroyed by what has occurred."
Covington Police Detective Brian Fuller has testified that Gray drank two beers and took Xanax and Percocet before going to sleep about 11 p.m. Jan. 17 on her bed with the infant, Anthia Lattimore. Gray awoke about 11 a.m. the next day and found the infant on the floor next to the baseboard heater.
Gray, 26, is charged with second-degree criminal abuse, but Kenton Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders said he is considering filing homicide charges against the single mother of four. She remained at the Kenton County Jail Sunday in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.
"The implication from some has been that Megin was essentially high and drunk at the time of the baby's death," said Jameson. "That is just not accurate."
Jameson said Gray had taken the medications and drank the beers several hours before she went to bed. He said the alcohol would have been completely out of her system before she even went to bed. Jameson did concede the medication wasn't prescribed to Gray.
The coroner ruled the death an accident. Jameson said Anthia suffocated from positional asphyxiation before her body was pushed off the bed and burned. The medical examiner's preliminary report determined the burns were postmortem.
Jameson said Anthia was destitute. She lived in a west Covington apartment with another family and had only one bed for her, Anthia and her three other children: Marlaysia Gray, 4; Keyana Gray, 3; and Shawntae Saunders, 2.
The entire family was piled into bed together when Anthia was suffocated, Jameson said.
"It is a tragedy," Jameson said. "It is a tragedy every time it occurs, but this is something that happens thousands of times each year where children accidentally suffocate because of lots of reasons. There are all sorts of research and articles out there about these sorts of incidents, so it is not something unheard of."
Jameson said Gray, who is unemployed, didn't have a lot of money but showed a deep love for her children, even getting their names tattooed around her neck. The name "Anthia" is tattooed on the back of Gray's neck.
"In an almost twisted irony, if you will, tattoos are not something typically highly thought of in our society, but here it explains her entire reality," Jameson said. "She lives for those children. The tattoos are a real statement to her."
Gray, who has hundreds of photographs of the children on her Myspace social networking page, was allowed to leave jail to attend Anthia's funeral. Jameson described his client as a distraught mother who cries uncontrollably over the loss.
Jameson said Gray may have made bad relationship choices in the past, but that it doesn't mean she doesn't care for her children.
Anthia's father, Anthony Lattimore, was in prison when his daughter died. The child was conceived while Lattimore was briefly out of prison in 2009 after being arrested in 2004 for selling guns out of a Florence house where he had fled after federal agents raided his Covington home. At that time, U.S. Marshals said that Lattimore had a history of home invasions and robberies.
"It is not that Megin Gray is perfect," Jameson said. "Nobody's claiming that. It is this is a tragedy and she is feeling that tragedy more so than anybody."

Was the above article the one that you had bookmarked PFF?
Well, reading that baby 'suffocated from positional asphyxiation before her body was pushed off the bed and burned. The medical examiner's preliminary report determined the burns were postmortem' only makes me feel a little better. That poor baby suffocated from too many people in that bed and we all know how we feel when we can't get our breaths! That baby suffocated while that mom laid asleep - heck yes, charge her with murder!
Her attorney tries to say she had no money, well tattoos aren't cheap, the prescription meds weren't her's, admitted by her own attorney, so what did she pay for those?
I'm not buying it at all.
Still say she should be immediately be spayed and put in prison for a long time.

If she took the drugs and drank the beer and slept 12 hours that means she didnt budge till 11am. How many kids sleep that long. Id say she had to be in a drugged stupor not to hear the other 3 kids.

Hi Slyshunny!!!!
I am glad that she was not alive while burning. That was such a horrible thought. I agree, no wonder the poor thing suffocated. Sounds like the bed was way too crowded. She should have made a pallet on the floor for her older children. I found the comment that she had all of her kids with her that night....wonder where the other children live when not with her? Grand parents, their dad???

I thought some thing was weird about the baby laying there burning to death at 9 months old. It helps to know the baby went to sleep and never woke up. But the Mother taking all those drugs at bedtime did not help at all.

Raine, yes that is the article. How did you get it? I just checked the website again and it is not there at all.
Slys Hunny, I agree with you. She is not a responsible Mom, taking drugs and drinking when she has her children.
Critter, They had removed the oldest two children from her home/care. They she had two more babies and they were with her. I don't remember if they said when the oldest two children were.

Raine,
There must have been a problem with the newspaper site and that link earlier. I now can bring it up through my bookmark. Strange. I do not understand these 'puters.
Anyways thanks for finding the article and posting it.

Rainbow, she showed that the drugs/booze was all she really cared about. Any involved mother with family and friends around would tell her how unsafe it is to pile that many children and a messed up mom in the same bed.
Maybe the drugs had messed with her so much that the only friends she had were fellow druggies. Birds of a feather, flock together.

COVINGTON – The mother of a 9-month-old girl pronounced dead after being found burned near a baseboard heater was indicted Thursday by a Kenton County grand jury.
Megin Gray, 26, of Covington was indicted on one count of second-degree manslaughter and four counts of second-degree criminal abuse.
She was arrested a day after her child’s death on just one count of second-degree criminal abuse. Gray remained at the Kenton County jail Thursday afternoon in lieu of $25,000 cash.
The manslaughter charge is punishable by five years to 10 years in prison while the criminal abuse charges each carry a penalty of one year to five years in prison. Under Kentucky law, any sentence Gray would receive would be capped at a total of 20 years.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders said investigators waited on bringing the additional charges until after they received a forensic report, a toxicology screening on Gray and the pathologist report from the autopsy of the girl.
A detective testified at Gray’s preliminary in February that she drank two beers and took Xanax and Percocert before going to sleep about 11 p.m. Jan. 17 on her bed with the baby, Anthia Lattimore. Gray awoke about 11 a.m. the next day and found Anthia on the floor next to the baseboard heater.
The Kenton County Coroner ruled the death an accident, and the medical examiner’s preliminary report determined the burns were postmortem.
Gray lived in a West Covington apartment with another family and had only one bed for her, Anthia and her three other children – all under the age of five.
Sanders said the additional criminal abuse charges stem from Gray placing the other children at risk of death or serious physical injury.
Gray will be arraigned April 4 in Circuit Judge Gregory Bartlett courtroom.

Thanks for posting this PFF. I hope she gets the 20 years and that terms for parole are that she cannot have custody of any child.

You could be right Charm. Although how many of those drugs did she take also. I doubt that she would be truthful with the amount of what she drank and took.
Those few Percocets they shoved in me at the hospital make me sick as could be. Then they sent me home with Lortab and I did not take those either. I just do not have a tolerance for those things. Advil & Tylenol is it for me.

I think this is a travesty that this mom is essentially getting a slap on the hand for what she did to her child. She needs to be sterilized while in the clink. She obviously can afford booze and pills but not birth control pills.
pleads guilty to abuse in baby's death
COVINGTON - A mother impaired on a cocktail of cocaine, prescription drugs and alcohol when her 9-month-old girl died agreed to a plea deal Thursday in Kenton Circuit Court.
In exchange for Megin Gray pleading guilty to four counts of second-degree criminal abuse, prosecutors agreed to drop one count of second-degree manslaughter. The manslaughter charge carries a sentence of five years to 10 years in prison while the criminal abuse charges are each punishable by one to five years in prison.
Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders recommended a sentence of five years on each criminal abuse count, to run concurrent, for a total of a five-year sentence. Judge Gregory Bartlett will sentence Gray, 27, of Covington, on Dec. 20.
Sanders said he agreed to drop the manslaughter charge because the medical examiner was prepared to testify that the 9-month-old, Anthia Lattimore, likely died in less than four minutes from positional asphyxiation. The death was ruled an accident. Sanders said he would have had difficulty proving Gray's impairment caused Anthia's death because it occurred so quickly.
He said his suggested sentence is what he thinks a jury would have recommended had the case gone to trial.
The plea agreement states Gray's state of intoxication was so great that she was unaware Anthia fell off the bed and died due to asphyxiation in January. Anthia's body laid on a baseboard heater so long that her skin was severely burned after her death.
"She put herself in a state of alcohol and drug-induced comma ... and slept through the fact that her infant fell off the bed, died of asphyxiation and basically cooked on top of a heater," Sanders said.
Gray lived in a West Covington apartment with another family and had only one bed for her, Anthia and her three other children: Marlaysia Gray, 4; Keyana Gray, 3; and Shawntae Saunders, 2. Sanders said the additional criminal abuse charges stem from Gray placing the other children at risk of death or serious physical injury.
Anthia's father, Anthony Lattimore, was in prison when his daughter died. The child was conceived while Lattimore was briefly out of prison in 2009 after being arrested in 2004 for selling guns out of a Florence house where he had fled after federal agents raided his Covington home.
Gray's aunt, Mary Trissell, said she felt like Gray was initially "overcharged." She said had Gray's family not had the money to hire defense lawyers Ashley Bellamy and Jon Alig the outcome might not have been as favorable for Gray.
Trissell admitted her niece had a drug problem but said social services had failed to provide her the necessary tools to successfully raise her children. It isn't the first time someone has criticized the state agency assigned to protect Kentucky's children over the handling of Gray's case.
During Gray's preliminary hearing in January, Kenton County District Judge Ken Easterling said the Cabinet for Health and Family Services - despite having contact with Gray six times - never requested that Anthia be removed from the home. The cabinet's file on Gray has never been made public but it has been repeatedly referred to throughout the case.
