Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania.
Good gravy. Surely somebody would have told they have this little girl by now.
C'mon FBI this is supposed to be your expertise. You are letting me down big time.
Tim Miller is the closest we have in a search and rescue of a missing child. What a shame that one man with "donation" money can do more than a federal agency with lots of money from the "money tree" government.
Amazing.

WESTON -- After 12 days, Aliayah Lunsford, 3, is still missing. She disappeared from her Lewis County home September 24.
Legal representation and law enforcement including federal, state and county agencies met Wednesday to discuss the progress of the case.
Though the FBI said Monday it was concentrating its search in Lewis County, authorities are also now looking outside the county. They do have reason to believe Aliayah could be alive, said attorney Tom Dyer, who received what he called a "credible tip" after he offered his services free to any perpetrator.
Also, Aliayah's mother Lena Lunsford is currently in litigation against an officer at the Beckley Work Release Center. She claims she was sexually assaulted, harassed and abused during her time there in 2008. The case is still pending in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

Everytime I read about a credible tip, it makes me crazy. I remember all the credible tips in the Anthony case while she lay in the swamp. A tip can be followed up on, but there is no evidence anyone took the child. You have two parents with criminal records,
and the stepfather with domestic violence complaints, you have a mother pregnant with twins who passes bad checks which shows money is a problem - and you have 6 people in a house during the day when a child was supposed to have been abducted. How CREDIBLE does their damn tip have to be, to ignore the obvious!

I agree! The thing that also puzzles me about this is, the person claiming to have this reliable tip is a defense attorney who has interjected himself into this by offering his services pro bono. Why haven't we heard from LE about this tip? And if the tip is reliable, the truth of it should have been easily determined by now and the child no longer "missing".

Yes you are correct - so its not law enforcement that is saying they got the tip but the lawyer representing the mother - shades of Jose Baez!

I'm not sure he represents the mother or anyone....I THINK he has just offered to represent anyone who is involved, he said he would do it for free and his only interest is in getting the child back. I don't know maybe I am too suspicious but I don't understand his involvement especially in regards to this tip he reports...????????

I dont believe in tips - in the Lisa Irwin case after I saw the Mother this morning Im really starting to lean toward a real abduction but the father is very weird.
In this case I absolutely do not believe the mother for one second.

WESTON -- It's been 13 days since Aliayah Lunsford, 3, went missing in Lewis County.
The FBI said Thursday it's still working hard with county and state law enforcement today to track down Aliayah.
We've learned Aliayah's stepfather Ralph Lunsford is related to two women who went missing from Lewis County in 1999. To this day, they still haven't been found.
Ralph was also most recently an employee at Stonewall Resort. The resort released a statement to WBOY stating he "has not returned to work since Sept. 24." The statement added the resort is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

The unsolved mystery of the two missing Lewis County, West Virginia women Continue reading on Examiner.com The unsolved mystery of the two missing Lewis County, West Virginia women
It was just over ten years ago, on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 that 45 year old Mary Friend and her mother, 69 year old Maxine Stalnaker were last seen or heard from. Mary was scheduled to work the following morning at her job at an area dry cleaners, but she never showed up. Maxine, Mary and Mary's husband Kevin Friend lived together on Jesse's Run Road near the small rural town of Jane Lew in Lewis County, West Virginia at Maxine's residence.
The late afternoon of Wednesday, December 1st, 1999 started off with Mary Friend and her mother Maxine Stalnaker driving from their Jesse's Run residence into Jane Lew in Mary's 1987 Chevy station wagon. In part, the purpose of the trip was to pick up Pam Pugh, a sister of Mary's, and then drive to the Joseph Metz residence to have two used tires put on the vehicle. Pam and Mary dropped their mother Maxine off at the Sheetz store at the Jane Lew exit of I-79 (exit 105), where Maxine was picked up by her son Ted Harrison to go shopping, then Mary and Pam proceeded to the Metz residence near the Stonewall Jackson Lake/Stonecoal Lake area to get the tires. They arrived about four p.m. according to reports, and after the tires were installed by Metz, left at six p.m. Joseph Metz was employed at the time at the Wilderness Plantation in Jane Lew, a club/restaurant, and was scheduled to work that evening. Metz, who reportedly did not have his own vehicle, declined a ride to work offered by Mary and Pam. Reports indicate that Metz did not work that evening, but did later obtain a ride to Jane Lew from two neighbors, and then hitch-hiked home. Pam Pugh reports that her sister Mary dropped her off at her Jane Lew residence about 8 to 9 p.m., and then drove herself home. Ted Harrison reports that he dropped his mother Maxine off at the Jesse's Run residence at 5 p.m. Those were the last times either of the two women were seen. Mary was supposed to pick her sister Pam Pugh up the folowing morning, and Pam was supposed to take Mary to work, and then use Mary's car to go Christmas shopping with Joseph Metz.
Mary's husband Kevin had been working in the state of Maryland, and returned home on Friday, December 3rd to find the house empty. He had tried several times unsuccessfully to telephone his wife before he came home, and even tried calling his co-worker's friend who was a friend of Mary's to try and reach her. Mary's car, a 1987 gray Chevy Celebrity station wagon, was found abandoned several miles from the residence parked next to a building on U.S. Route 19 in the town of Gore, West Virginia on Monday December 6th. Police say that there were no signs of struggle or robbery either at the scene where the car was found, or at the residence on Jesse's Run. One source did report that a bloody cloth was removed from the scene inside the residence at Jesse's Run by a family member before the police arrived on Saturday December 4th. In addition, Maxine's young pet Doberman was found dead under the house, and the police have not provided any explanation as to how the animal died.
A second dog, a Border Collie, was missing from the Jesse's Run residence, but was found unharmed in the area of Glady Fork near Stonewall Jackson Lake, approximately ten miles from the Jesse's Run residence. This dog was found at a former residence (at the time abandoned) of Mary and Kevin Friend. This dog was familiar with this area, having previously lived at the location with Mary and Kevin Friend. The Border Collie had originally belonged to Mary Friend's adult son Joseph Metz, who also had a residence in the vicinity close to where the dog was found, but it was being cared for and lived at the Jesse's Run residence at the time of the two women's disappearance.
A purse belonging to one of the two missing women was hooked by a fisherman in the fall of 2002 in Stonewall Jackson Lake in an area near the Skin Creek bridge, also in relatively close proximity to the former Glady Fork Friend residence and the separate residence of Joseph Metz. The Purse contained the identification of both missing women. An extensive ten day search of the lake bottom was conducted at the time with no further results reported. A second search of the lake was conducted in the summer of 2007, again with no results.
It is reported that Joseph Metz submitted to a polygraph test and did not fare well on it. Rumors have been circulating about one family member allegedly conducting some illegal activities for a local business owner, and that Mary Friend threatened to expose this. Authorities have not been able to confirm any of this. Ten years have elapsed, and no charges have yet been filed. Three law enforcement agencies have been involved in the investigation: the FBI, the Lewis County Sherriff, and the West Virginia State Police. Well right now the police need to focus on little girl - she is gone and they have two parents with extremely bad pasts as far as the law. Bascially both are criminals in my mind and scam artists. Im sure dealing with an 8 month pregnant woman with twins expected is hindering them somewhat but they could put some pressure on the husband because he knows exactly what happened.

Search for Aliayah Continues
Investigators are still searching for missing three year old Aliayah Lunsford, who vanished from her home almost two weeks ago.
FBI officials announced earlier this week that her disappearance is being investigated as a crime. They're still looking at three possibilities, including a homicide, an abduction, or a concealment.
It's still being investigated by local, state, and federal departments, but they won't release any leads or evidence that they've found in the case. There's still no named suspects, but officials say they're continuing to talk to a small amount of people.

Again my question as to why the Lisa Irwin case is getting all the attention and that poor sad little girl Aliayah - nothing. Im really disgusted with LE - there are so many cases, Kyron, Celena Cass, Haleigh Cummings, all the others who have never been found and never had closure.

LE baffles me completely. Don't they think we know that it's a homicide, abduction or concealment????? A three year old doesn't just get up and walk away all by herself and disappear never to be heard from again.Wrapitup wrote:More Than Two Weeks Later Aliayah Lunsford Still Missing

As Artgal said, I'm too frustrated with all of these cases. It seems like if there's no confession from the person who took or murdered the child then it remains a mystery forever.
I too wonder why the 10 month old has all this media, even on my own local news but not this little girl? Who makes these decisions??????

Community Members Petition for "Aliayah's Law"
Last Updated on Monday, 10 October 2011 19:55 Written by Katie Lusso Monday, 10 October 2011 17:18
Aliayah Lunsford's disappearance has triggered folks across the state to team up and try to create a new law that would help missing children. It's called "Aliayah's Law".
When children go missing there are really only three things that can be done. 911 can be called, an Amber Alert can be issued, or Project Lifesaver can be used.
In Aliayah's case the Amber Alert couldn't be issued because there was no vehicle description or license plate number to share. Project Lifesaver is mainly used for Alzheimer's or memory loss patients.
The "Aliayah's Law" Facebook group was created in hopes to petition for a new law that would help protect and find missing children.
One of the goals is to get stronger sentencing for those accused of child abuse. Another goal is to create county or statewide media pages to report missing children.
To learn more about the petition check out the "Aliayah Law" Facebook Page.

How many laws named after missing/murdered children will there have to be before this madness is stopped?

Balloon Launch Scheduled in Honor of Aliayah's Disappearance
Last Updated on Wednesday, 12 October 2011 18:10 Written by Nicole Porter Wednesday, 12 October 2011 17:31
Folks across the country are planning an event to mark the one month anniversary since a Lewis County girl went missing.
A movement started on Facebook to do a balloon launch on October 24, in front of the Lewis County Courthouse, in honor of Aliayah Lunsford, 3. That movement has spread across the country.
The idea was started "...so people won't forget her. She's still out there and we need to find her and this is a perfect way. Purple's her favorite color. Kids love balloons and maybe she'll see the balloons and find her way home," says Teresa Hathaway, a Weston resident who started this event.
In addition to the balloon launch, volunteers plan to do a massive flyer handout across the state to get Aliayah's picture to as many folks as possible.
To see how you can help in the flyer campaign or to find different locations and times for the balloon launches, log onto Facebook and search "Lewis Co. Info, News and Talk."
Aliayah's disappearance is being called a crime and investigators are looking at three possibilities. While they remain tight lipped on details, we know it's being looked at as either a murder, an abduction or a concealment.
There's no suspects but a small group of persons of interest are being investigated.
Law enforcement plans to have a press conference later this week.

I get tired of hearing about balloon launches and candle light vigils. How many of these have we heard about and the child or person in question is still missing years later? Balloons and candles don't help to find the missing. Pass out fliers, conduct searches; forget the candles and the balloons.
Maybe I'm just a bah humbug but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I agree BJ atleast put a flier in those balloons in hopes someone will see it and have information.

I hear what you are saying BJ, I think those are ways to make people feel like they are doing something/anything instead of feeling helpless, like most of the cases make a person feel. It's like the petitions to name new laws after a missing/murdered child. I think we need a different training for LE everywhere. It seems like these cases have such similarities, are the perpetrators learning from other cases, IDK. I do know that LE could be learning from other cases and mistakes made.

I live only minutes from the WVa border, but my goodness they certainly have whacky sounding town names and such.
Maybe the fact that this child is from the backwoods of WVa. has something to do w/ why its not in the media as much. Same with Celina Cass, seems general concern waned after the first couple of days.
Every missing child deserves the same media scrutiny and attention, IMO.

Aliayah's Law Petition Available Online
Last Updated on Thursday, 13 October 2011 18:25 Written by Nicole Porter Thursday, 13 October 2011 17:29
Thursday marks 20 days since Aliayah Lunsford was last seen at her Denisson Street home. Community members are trying to petition for new laws in her honor.
Folks are trying to create Aliayah's Law and there's a petition online for people to join. The creators say the petition is an outline of ideas that will be sent to state lawmakers in the hopes that some of the ideas could be made into a law.
The idea behind the Aliayah's Law outline is to help protect missing and abused children. While there's no signs that Aliayah was ever abused, the creators of this petition hope to protect not only the missing, but also the abused, children everywhere.
There's 12 ideas in the petition, including timelines for when missing children should be reported and stronger sentences for those convicted of child abuse.
To view or sign the petition, click HERE.

They Need A Break In The Case
WAJR-FM Radio News
Weston, Lewis County
Investigators say they need more help with the case involving the ongoing search for a three year old girl who was reported missing in Lewis County last month.
Harrison County Attorney Tom Dyer says, based on the investigation up to to this point, law enforcement officers are now much less optimistic that they'll be able to find Aliayah Lunsford alive.
Dyer told MetroNews Affiliate WAJR-FM in Clarksburg the investigation has gone almost as far as it can.
"It's going to be one of those incredibly difficult cases to develop further evidence and, as a result, I want to brace the listening public for a period of time that may involve little, if any, news about any further developments in this case," Dyer said.
He says investigators have been able to eliminate several persons of interest and possible suspects and are focusing on a small group of people who may have been involved in the girl's disappearance.
Lunsford was reported missing on Saturday, September 24th.

I agree 1000%! The truth is we would need a network for just the missing children and 24/7 coverage. There needs to be a way to wean the number down so small that if we ever hear of a missing child it is odd instead of the almost daily norm.
Something weird just popped into my head. Since the FBI are involved in these cases, I wonder if they ever check satellite imagery to see if it was capturing something at the time of disappearance. I know people are aware of surveillance video but there is no way to know when we are being filmed from above.

Hope Fading In Lunsford Case
The FBI says it is continuing to search for a three-year-old Lewis County girl, although they admit there's limited hope Aliayah Lunsford is still alive.
Lunsford was last seen at her home in Bendale, south of Weston, on Saturday morning Sept. 24.
Special Agent Jeff Killeen told reporters Friday afternoon investigators been pouring through hours of digital surveillance video that has been tremendously helpful in narrowing down a timeline. They're also narrowing their investigation to a small number of people.
Killeen says investigators are hopeful that more people may have additional surveillance video that could further assist in the investigation.
Killeen dispelled rumors that authorities weren't working hard enough on the case. He says whether it's in a search team, a video enhancement lab, the mobile crime unit, or conducting interviews, they have agents and officers working nearly around the clock.
Killeen says investigators do feel their getting closer to a resolution but still can't predict when they'll reach the end of the investigation -- but Killeen says they'll be here until the case is solved.
Hundreds of volunteers spent more than a week combing the area during the initial search.

Investigation Narrows in Aliayah Lunsford Disappearance
Saturday will mark three weeks since Aliayah was reported missing from her Lewis County home, and Friday investigators said the search is narrowing, and a timeline is being formed after viewing a lot of surveillance videos.
FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen says that after three weeks and no sightings of the girl, it is hard to believe that any child could still be alive with the weather we have had. He also says stranger things have happened.
Members of the FBI, the Lewis County Sheriff's Department and the state Police are looking at business and home surveillance videos to help piece the situations surrounding Aliayah's disappearance together.
FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen said at a press conference Friday "Video evidence in the form of home security systems and the form of government security systems, other monitoring systems those, that immense amount of data that we have accumulated in the town of south Weston and elsewhere, elsewhere has been very, very helpful to us. We certainly have narrowed our focus and we have narrowed our timeline down about the circumstances surrounding this missing child."
No one will say whether or not Aliayah herself is seen in these videos or where they're from. We do know some are from Lewis County and others are from surrounding areas.
Investigators say it's helped them narrow down the persons of interest list, and confirms the thoughts that it is either a murder, a concealment, or an abduction. One or more people may be involved in her disappearance, and they could face a variety of charges
"A conspiracy, it could be, it could be but I'm not ruling that in, I'm not ruling that out, but I certainly can't rule that out right now;" Said Killeen. "Both federal and state crimes right now we're looking at."
FBI Special Agent Killeen says that investigators do not believe any other children are in harms way.
They won't comment on if there are any suspects, but they say the persons of interest list has also shortened. If you have surveillance video that you think may pertain to Aliayah's disappearance, call the Weston Detachment of the West Virginia State Police at 304-269-0500.

FBI: "There's Limited Hope She's Alive"

More than one person could have conspired in 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford's disappearance, authorities said.

WESTON -- Like many others in Lewis County, Jared Ballard, 18, has been affected by the disappearance of Aliayah Lunsford, 3. His school, Lewis County High School, sits across the street from the Lunsford's Bendale home.
"Obviously when helicopters are flying around that's a little distracting when you're taking tests," Ballard said.
LCHS Guidance Counselor Eddie Vincent said the students' mood remains optimistic.
"They're holding out for hope that they're going to find this girl and she's going to be okay," he said.
But now, almost three weeks into the search for Aliayah, the FBI has its doubts.
"We're operating under the assumption that there's limited hope she's alive," Special Agent Jeff Killeen said.
The investigative team includes federal, state and county law enforcement. Killeen said investigators are working 13 hours every day. The team is using enhancement technology to analyze videos and pictures taken from homes and businesses in south Weston, Killeen said.
They are handling both state and federal crimes and charges. Investigators also have a small group of suspects, but they remain tight-lipped.
"I don't want to reveal information that will tell certain people exactly how we're looking at this case," Killeen said.
Investigators still consider kidnapping, concealment or homicide the three main scenarios explaining what happened to Aliayah, Killeen said. He said they are dealing with both state and federal crimes. But parents in the area have no reason to fear it might happen again to one of their own, he added.
For the children in the community, the fear is still palpable.
"If this is a bad ending then we'll have some mental health issues with kids dealing with that," Vincent said.
"I felt like this was a pretty safe community and we had people we knew and trusted, but something like this puts it in perspective," Ballard said.
The FBI still has no timetable for when it thinks the case will get solved. Authorities encourage anyone with any relevant pictures or video to call state police at 304-269-0500.

Lena Lunsford has been arrested, however these charges are not related to the case of missing Aliayah Lunsford.
According to the criminal complaint, Lena Lunsford did knowingly transfer a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card issued in her name and Personal Identification Number (PIN) issued to her to a person known to the United States Attorney, in order for that person to use the benefits on defendant Lena Lunsford's SNAP EBT card to purchase approximately $114.82 of food in exchange for $50 in United States Currency.
Lunsford was released on her own personal recognizance Monday afternoon and is currently out free.
FBI investigators would not say if Lunsford is a suspect in her daughter's disappearance.
"I'm not going over who's a suspect... We're not labeling anybody a suspect at this time. That investigation remains ongoing. We're still committed to resolving this case favorably," says FBI Special Agent Jeff Killeen.
Investigators are still looking at surveillance videos.
"We continue to get evidence everyday, in the form of most particularly, video evidence. Again, as I said last week, we're looking very, very hard at video evidence. There's a lot of public and private facilities around this area that have video cameras and video capability so we have scoured the area and it takes a long time. We're trying to have a lot of that enhanced," says Killeen.
If you think you have any video evidence that can help investigators, call the WVSP Weston Detachment at 304-269-0500.
Also, if you have information but aren't comfortable calling law enforcement, you can call the 5 NEWS newsroom and we can forward the tips anonymously. To do so, call 304-848-5000 and ask for the newsroom.
We will not be reporting any of the tips we receive.

Why would anyone with a tip feel uncomfortable calling LE? Is this a special tip line they have set up or are they just hoping to get first crack at a story?
I wonder about the pregnancy also, early I seem to remember they weren't questioning her because she was pregnant with twins, but now it is okay to arrest her with this crime......
What was she doing with the $50 and why did she not need the food the card would provide?
I am still bothered by that picture they chose. So much sadness in those eyes and on that face.

This case goes deep I would imagine -and things we are not going to want to hear.
