Bianca Jones vanished from the Detroit area this weekend, and like the cases of Sky Metalwala and Lisa Irwin, this one reeks of something foul. In the latest update to the investigation, it appears that the missing girl's father is being watched, and his home has been searched.

When Bianca Jones was reported missing by her father, he alleged that he was carjacked by two men. He says they stole the car with his daughter strapped in the carseat in the back. Police discovered the car less than 10 minutes after the child was reported missing, less than a block away. This was immediately suspicious.

D'andre Lane also failed a polygraph test, as was reported yesterday. When a parent of a missing child fails a lie detector test then there is nothing but suspicion to be cast in their direction. What did the man lie about? Why did he lie? What happened to his daughter?

Perhaps the polygraph test results are what led police to search the father's home. However, there have been no reports of any evidence found in their search. Hopefully something is figured out soon, and little Bianca Jones is found safe.

As the search continues for Bianca Jones, the 2-year-old Detroit girl missing since an alleged carjacking Friday morning while driving with her father, Detroit police are questioning the accuracy of the initial testimony of her disappearance.

Although police would not comment on the "quantity nor the quality of any evidence or information" gathered in the case, Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said in a statement that the police were giving the story of 32-year-old Deandre Lane, the child's father, a thorough examination, the Free Press reported.

"In the interest of allaying some of the fears of the public regarding the apparent randomness of Bianca's disappearance, the authenticity and credibility of the original version of events is under intense scrutiny by our investigative team," Godbee said.

According to Lane, two men forced him at gunpoint from his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis on Brush and Carter near Grand Boulevard, Friday morning, and drove off with his daughter in the vehicle's back seat, the Detroit News reports.

About 10 minutes after receiving a report of the incident, police found the car less than a mile away from where it was stolen, but with the toddler missing.

The police department released a composite sketch of one of the suspects who is described as a Black Male, six feet tall, weighing 185 pounds with a medium complexion, light scraggly beard, wearing a black shirt, black pants and a brown hat.

"There are some anomalies in this case," Godbee told the Free Press. "Some things are atypical, but that does not mitigate the fact of where Bianca is."

A police source, cited by the Detroit News, said Lane took a polygraph test on Friday and failed, with low scores on "Did you have anything to do with her disappearance?" and "Do you know where she is now?"

Lane recently served two years in prison on firearm and drug charges and is currently being held on a warrant not related to his daughter's disappearance, the Detroit News also reports.

Detroit police, along with the FBI, Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and several community groups are currently working together to locate Jones.

Bianca Jones is described as 2 feet 5 inches tall and 25 pounds with a light complexion, and had on a purple jacket with gold trim, pink tights and pink shoes.

"We only want Bianca back. That's all we care about," Bianca's mother, Banika Jones, told the Free Press. "We just want you to bring her back safe and sound or leave her somewhere safe."

Missing Child Breaking Development -- Father Not Cooperating

The father of a missing child is being reported as not cooperating with police anymore. This isn't much of a surprise considering D'Andre Lane has already failed a polygraph test regarding the disappearance of his two-year-old daughter. This is sad news, however, because this may just be another case of a parent harming their child.

Sources report that D'Andre Lane has stopped cooperating with investigators in the search for his daughter, Bianca Jones. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant when he reported his child missing, and this report shows him leaving the jail in Oakland County today. Although D'Andre has been released from jail, the latest report indicates that the father of two-year-old Bianca Jones is not cooperating.

He has, since his release, hired an attorney. D'Andre Lane is refusing to speak with investigators regarding the disappearance of his two-year-old daughter. This is quite similar to the disappearance of Lisa Irwin. Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin were quick to get lawyers after Deb admitted that she failed a polygraph test, like D'Andre in this story. Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin are also being uncooperative with police in the search for their daughter, Lisa Irwin.

Bianca Jones is still missing

This isn't looking good for two-year-old Bianca, who was alleged to have been abducted during a carjacking. Unfortunately, it looks like the carjacking story isn't true, that's been evident for a couple of days now. The release of sketches of the alleged suspects have been circulating for two days now, but the news of the father failing the polygraph test is also common news. Perhaps it's time to stop searching for imaginary perps and time to deeply investigate what really happened to two-year-old Bianca Jones.

Editorial: We must keep our children from harm

Latest missing toddler case reminds us that we can't grow numb to plight of innocents

Once again, police and volunteers are scouring fields and abandoned buildings in search of a missing child in our community. And once again, while our hopes and prayers rest with 2-year-old Bianca Jones of Detroit, missing since Friday, we are overcome with the sickening feeling that this will not turn out well.

And as too often has been the case lately, once again the finger of suspicion is pointing at those who were supposed to love and protect young Bianca.

This has become a too-familiar story in Detroit.

Just a few months ago, the search teams were out looking for 5-year-old Mariha Smith, who vanished from her Detroit home in the middle of the night.

Her burned and battered body was eventually found in an abandoned home nearby, and a relative was arrested for her murder.

Last year at this time, a massive, multistate manhunt was under way for the three young Skelton brothers of Morenci, Mich., whose father claims to have left them with a stranger for safekeeping.

The father, John Skelton, remains in a jail cell on contempt charges for refusing to reveal the boys' whereabouts.

Before that was the search for Nevaeh Buchanan, 5, whose body was ultimately found under a concrete slab on a Monroe riverbank.

Around those highly publicized cases have been a score of other child murders in Michigan; most of the victims died at the hands of a parent or other caregivers.

It's a vile epidemic that both turns our stomach and leaves us feeling helpless.

We wish there were a ready solution we could suggest, a policy or law enforcement fix that could be implemented to attack this most despicable of crimes.

But in most cases, the murdered children lived in homes that to the outside world appeared to present no threat to their well-being.

And yet we have to do something. Perhaps crimes against children should carry much stiffer penalties.

The federal government proscribes the death penalty for cop killers. And while we don't necessarily believe capital punishment is the answer, someone who murders a child should be treated as a different category of criminal than one who offs a rival in a drug deal.

A society's greatest obligation is to nurture and protect its children.

We aren't doing that well enough in Michigan.

We cannot allow ourselves to grow numb to the plight of innocents, as we have with murders in general in this community.

We can't grow accustomed to the search dogs straining at their leashes, with the candlelight vigils, with the soggy piles of teddy bears marking the spot were a baby's body was found.

We have to hold on to the outrage we feel today about the disappearance of Bianca Jones.

And we have to hope that from our anger will grow a greater determination to find the answers for protecting our children.

So the SODDI story that D’Andre Lane has passed for us to partake of so far is that two men came up to his car while he was stopped either at a traffic light or stop sign and told him his taillight was out. Lane states he then got out of the car and that’s when one of the carjackers pulled a gun and they jumped in his car and drove off with his 2-year-old daughter, Bianca Jones.

Because that’s what you do in Detroit. You get out of your car at an intersection with two strange men telling you your taillight is out. That’s the way it’s done there. You just jump out, leave your car door open and wander back to your rear bumper because seeing is believing and by golly you need to right there on the spot confirm your taillight is out. The dudes who stopped you may have a spare bulb in their pocket and you could actually just fix it, at the intersection in the middle of Detroit and go on down the road without any concerns about the highly dangerous situation of one taillight being out.

Yeah.

To be clear, it appears Bianca was in the car earlier on the morning of December 2nd because Lane’s car is seen on surveillance footage dropping his 15-year-old nephew off at school around 8:10 am. The nephew, who has been interviewed by Detroit police, states Bianca was in the car that morning. Like the Sky Metalwala case, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Bianca was in the car alive. Even a 15-year-old child can be duped into believing a dead baby in a car seat is a sleeping baby in a car seat.

And a 15 year old can also be intimidated, but there’s no evidence of that yet.

But…over 2 hours later, when Lane’s car was found about 1 mile from where he says the carjacking took place, she wasn’t there. That’s still two hours, which leaves a wide open area in which a small body can be dumped. By the way, Lane says the carjacking took place at 9 am…but he didn’t report it to police until 10 am, which is more than enough time to walk the 1 mile to a different location. There has been, in defense of this pathetic SODDI story, one witness that claims she saw Lane running from the alleged carjacking location “with a gun in his hand”.

Reports state that “a child who was in the house” the night before Bianca went missing told police they saw Lane “beating Bianca”. Lane has admitted he may have punished Bianca the night before for a potty accident…because that’s how intelligent parents do it. They just beat the piss right out of a child and before you know the child instantly runs to the bathroom in fear of the PADDLE that Lane says he uses to punish his children…including a 2-year-old child. But Lane says he’s never done anything abusive to any of his children.

I think D’Andre Lane is a big spineless baby-beating liar, personally. And probably a baby-murderer.

One thing that needs to be pointed out in this case that is very similar to the Sky Metalwala case, is that D’Andre Lane was on his way to Bianca’s mother’s residence when this alleged carjacking took place. He was reportedly going there to pick up more clothing for Bianca. As with the Sky Metalwala case, where all of sudden an unbelievable (and I do mean unbelievable) story is presented of a child mysteriously being abducted from a car right before the parent has to produce the child to the other parent, such is the case with Bianca Jones. In both cases, it appears the SODDI story is serving the purpose of covering up not being able to produce that child alive when needed to the other parent.

BUT, there is an added concern in the Bianca Jones case that isn’t necessarily there in the Sky Metalwala case. I personally believe that Sky died – maybe on the same day as the mediation for custody took place – days before he was reported missing and the abduction ruse serves to cover up a death that may have been from TOTAL neglect (I mean total…13 hours of no adult with a 4 year old and a baby left alone). In the case of Bianca Jones there exists the possibility of a planned extermination of a child due to the fact that she was very badly injured the night before in this described “beating” that took place. In the case of Bianca Jones, there is the possibility of a planned murder in order to eliminate evidence of abuse.

This just breaks my heart. I'm just 20 minutes south of Detroit, and I have two cute little nephews about her age. Bianca is just the cutest little girl. She just celebrated her second birthday. Christmas will be here soon. I definitely believe her father is lying and that he knows what happened to her and where she is now. Carjackers want cars, not kids. They wouldn't have taken the kid and left the car. Not in Detroit! My heart goes out to Bianca's mother and her older sister. I don't think this is gonna end well :(

Poor Baby. Your post talking about the Christmas she is going to miss broke my heart. WTH is going on? Since KC was found not guilty there have been tons more of these cases?

And, IMHO, they will continue. Idiot "parents" or gf/bf's of the parents think because TMLS got away with it, so can they. She should be ashamed of herself, to put it mildly.

I agree, the Casey Anthony Syndrome, parents see she got away with it and they think they can to - they learned a lot from that case. Just as one man or woman can change the world, for the good of mankind one individual can have an impact for the bad. Casey Anthony along with Baez and Mason should hang their heads in shame -instead they laugh all the way to the bank.

Bianca Jones Missing: Was a Warrant Issued for Her Father’s Arrest?

Bianca Jones has been missing since Dec. 9 after she was allegedly taken from her father in a carjacking. Detroit police issued a request for an arrest warrant on Tuesday, but initially refused to comment on who they were investigating. Was the warrant issued for Bianca Jones' father?

Nancy Grace reports that they have issued a criminal warrant arrest for D'Andre Lane, Bianca's father.

Local reports claim police cadaver dogs may have picked up the scent of human decomposition near areas associated with Lane. WXYZ reported that the dogs signaled "possible decomposition" in Lane's car on Bianca's car seat and in his home.

WDIV claims that police have uncovered evidence that leads them to believe she is likely dead and authorities have suspended organized search efforts.

Two-year old Bianca Jones has been missing since Friday at 9:45 a.m. when her father, D'Andre Lane, 32, claimed she was taken during a carjacking. Family members have questioned whether Lane has told authorities the full truth of what occurred that morning.

Lane told police he was driving his silver 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with Bianca strapped in a car seat in the back when two assailants told him to check his taillight. When Lane stepped out of the car, the assailants jumped in, stealing his car with Biana still inside of it.

Bianca's father called the police and officers were able to locate the car ten minutes later less a mile away from where it was stolen. Bianca Jones, however, was missing.

Bianca's mother, Bianka Jones, said she last saw her daughter on Nov. 26 when family members and friends celebrated the girl's second birthday. Bianca was spending the week with her father, who was reportedly on his way to pick up more clothes for his daughter from Bianka's home when the alleged carjacking occurred.

"Please continue to keep searching for Bianca," Bianka Jones asked volunteers, reported The Associated Press. "We love her and we want her home. Bianca, Mommy has lots and lots of gingerbread men for you when you get home."

DETROIT (WXYT) - For the first time, the mother and father of missing Detroit toddler Bianca Jones did a joint interview, choosing Charlie Langton’s morning show on Talk Radio 1270 for a wide ranging discussion of the case.

Looking somber, the former couple asked for the public’s help finding their daughter, whom they still believe to be alive. Bianca was last seen December 2 when her father Deandre Lane said he was carjacked with the 2-year-old in his car. The car was recovered a short time later, with the car seat inside, but no sign of Bianca.

“Our goal today is to find out exactly what happened,” Langton said.

Mother Banica Jones said “there’s no animosity or drama between us,” describing a warm relationship between herself and Bianca’s father Deandre Lane, adding they’ve known each other 20 years and share two children, including Bianca.

They said they were speaking to get out information about the missing toddler “as far and wide as possible” in the hopes someone will turn her in.

“She’ll tell you her name is Bacon, she’ll tell you she just had a birthday,” Jones said. “She’s very precocious … Just bring her back and everything will be OK, everything will be better. If you know anything at all, please call Detroit police.”

Langton asked about the warrant pending at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office that reportedly names Lane as a suspect.

“I did not have anything to do with my daughter’ disappearance. I have cooperated with the police in every way,” Lane said, later adding: “Did I abuse my child? No. Did I cause my child any harm? No. That’s not me.”

Bianca’s mother said, “I trusted him with my daughter, I wouldn’t give my daughter wo anyone even slightly capable of hurting her…I don’t believe he hurt her.”

About Lane allegedly failing a polygraph test after Bianca’s disappearance, the mother said, “They are unreliable, they are inadmissable as evidence. I have never been given that information directly from law enforcement.”

What about the cadaver dogs reportedly hitting on the scent of human remains in her car seat?

“I do believe someone passed away in that home previously, it was a very old car seat, it had human stains on it, years and years of use from several children … And no one has turned up my daughter. I want my daughter home.”

Lane explained it like this: “When you make a broad statement like ‘detectives said remains…that could be a number of things. You’ve had pepople who previously lived there. I don’t kno whta theya ctually detected. People are taking those broad statements and running in every direction.”

Langton pressed Lane on what really happened at the scene, saying most people wouldn’t give up the car with a toddler inside without a fight.

“There is an investigation going on. I can’t speak of things that may impede the investating … People can say ‘I would do this, I would do that, until you’re in this situation you don’t know.”

Asked how he felt when the carjackers drove away, Lane said, “I’m not at liberty to discuss those things…There’s an ongoing investigation.”

The father added later he would not make any statements about what happened “that particular day.” When pressed to describe the suspects, Lane refused, saying anyone interested should ask police for information like that.

He did say police have a sketch of the suspects.

“Everything that I know, the police know,” Lane said. “I’m not here to comfort the masses. Everything I know, the police know.”

Describing a baby who loved to eat and danced around shouting “bacon” once when a bacon pizza arrived, Jones said if she could see her daughter again she would say to Bianca, “Are you hungry… Can I give you a kiss?”

Mother Banica Jones explained Bianca was staying with her father at that time because she had work to do and it was “better than day care.”

“It’s not a situation where I’m an estranged father and just popped up out of the blue,” Lane said, adding that he has seven children.

“I don’t understand why anybody would want to do anything like this,” Lane said, complaining about speculation that he was involved. “It’s one thing to have evidence, it’s another thing to have circumstantial evidence. If it’s not pertaining to my daughter coming home, it’s of no consequence to me.”

The father of a missing 2-year-old girl has been charged with felony murder and child abuse in connection with her disappearance, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced today.

D’Andre Lane is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Detroit’s 36th District Court on the charges. If convicted on the murder charge, Lane faces life in prison without parole.

Lane’s attorney, Terry Johnson, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Bianca Jones went missing Dec. 2 and has not been found.

Worthy said cases where a body is not recovered or where one is recovered in a condition that is not helpful to police and prosecutors are difficult to prosecute.

“A human body is sometimes the best piece of evidence the prosecutor and the police can have,” she said. “It can speak to you, it can sometimes tell you what happened. It can sometimes tell you who did it and who didn’t. It can sometimes lead you in the right direction.

“But bodies, as you know, are not always found in cases that police investigate or found in a condition that … can help police and prosecutors out.”

Lane told investigators he was carjacked in Detroit while driving to the home of Bianca’s mother to get some clothing for the little girl. Police found his car about 10 minutes later and the toddler was gone.

Police have questioned his account and have searched his home several times.

A source familiar with the investigation previously told the Free Press that a cadaver dog alerted its handler to spots in a bedroom at Lane’s house, as well as in his car, on Bianca’s car seat and her blanket.

Cadaver dogs are trained to find human remains and can be capable of detecting even trace amounts of decomposition, experts say.

Lane’s attorney, though, has said his client longs for his daughter’s return.

Lane previously said he failed a police polygraph test, but blamed that on his thoughts about Bianca and the carjacking. He insisted he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

Lane was arrested in December shortly after Bianca’s disappearance for violating conditions of a personal protection order. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews ordered Lane to take an anger management course after he violated the PPO that prohibited him from contacting his ex-wife, Rakiba Mitchell. He was later released.

When Matthews learned Monday that he had failed to attend the course, she ordered him jailed again. He is currently serving 14 days in the Oakland County jail. Lane is scheduled for release on March 23, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Wesley Beltz said.

Mitchell sought the PPO in March 2011, following the couple’s divorce, saying he was harassing her and threatening her. She accused Lane of assaulting her at a family birthday party. Mitchell and Lane share a young child, who is in Mitchell’s custody.

The PPO was granted on April 1 but according to court records, Lane continued to contact Mitchell. On July 18, Mitchell said in court records that she found a note from Lane asking to see their son. She called police and a bench warrant was issued.

Although I am happy to read he has been arrested and charged I am a little surprised that he was. As the article said murder is hard to prove with out a body.

It's finally happened: The father of Bianca Jones has been charged with murder and child abuse directly related to the 2011 disappearance of the 2-year-old Detroit tot. This is certainly not the end of the case, however, because the body of the missing 2-year-old has not been found.

Similar to the disappearance of Jhessye Shockley in Arizona, detectives believe that little Bianca Jones was murdered and discarded before she was reported missing. And just like the Jhessye Shockley case, the suspicion is falling heavily on one of the parents of the child, and murder is suspected even without the presence of a body. D'Andre Lane, the girl's father, has finally been arrested after nearly three months of rumors that he had been named on an arrest warrant.

D'Andre Lane claims that he was carjacked with Bianca in her carseat in the backseat of the car. He reported her missing while reporting the car-jacking, but police discovered the car just a couple of minutes away, just minutes after it was reported stolen. It was still warm, and Bianca was nowhere to be found. This immediately put him on the radar in a suspicious light and that only intensified when cadaver dogs hit on the scent of human decomposition in his bedroom, in his car and on some of the child's belongings.

Hopefully detectives in Detroit are able to find the child's body so they can build an airtight case against this guy.

The 8-year-old sister of Bianca Jones testified Tuesday that her father, D'Andre Lane, hit her after she wet the bed and then stuffed the panties she had on into her mouth as part of her punishment.

"It was the time I thought I was on the toilet, but I was in the bed," the 8-year-old said about the incident. "He was holding them (the panties) in my face, then put them underneath my tongue and it hurt."

The testimony came after the girl told the court about what she said happened at Lane's house the morning of Dec. 2, the day 2-year-old Bianca disappeared.

"I didn't see Bebe," the girl said, referring to Bianca. The girl said she put on her school clothes, washed her face and waited in the living room for Lane.

As the girl got into the car, she said, Lane picked up the car seat carrying Bianca, but "the cover (her blanket) was over her."

The girl, who briefly waved to her father in court, testified that Bianca never tried to remove the cover from her face and that she was not making a sound. When Bianca slept, the girl said, "she usually snores."

Lane, 32, who was charged last month with first-degree felony murder and first-degree child abuse in connection with Bianca's disappearance, was in 36th District Court in Detroit for a preliminary examination Tuesday before Judge Ruth Carter. He faces life in prison without parole if convicted of the murder charge.

Although prosecutors contend Bianca was subjected to abuse from her father on the day she disappeared, Lane repeatedly has denied involvement in the toddler's disappearance.

Lane told police two men carjacked him at gunpoint and took off in his 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis with Bianca strapped in her car seat in the back on the morning of Dec. 2. Police found Lane's car running several blocks away from what he said was the carjacking site, but Bianca was not in the car. Prosecutors have presumed that she is dead.

Martin Grime, a forensic canine expert, testified that he traveled from England and arrived Dec. 4 in Detroit with two English springer spaniels: Morse, who specializes in victim recovery, and Keela, who detects human blood.

Grime said Morse detected a human decomposition odor in a room where Bianca slept at Lane's house as well as on her blanket and car seat found in Lane's car.

"The dog's final response is vocal," Grime said. "He barks, and as the dog searches, their behavior changes and they become more intense."

Morse searched inside and outside Lane's house in the 19300 block of Mitchell on Detroit's east side, Grime said. "There was an immediate change of behavior."

Grime said Morse was able to pick out Lane's car, which was parked among 31 others in a lot. The other cars in the lot did not get a response from the dog.

Grime said his dogs did not detect a decomposition odor on the clothing Lane was wearing the day he was taken into custody, which was the same day Bianca disappeared. He also said that a body starts decomposing immediately after breathing stops.

Testimony in the preliminary examination is expected to resume April 27.

Detroit — Bianca Jones was "unwanted and unloved" by her father D'Andre Lane who prosecutors say fatally beat the toddler in December beforetossing out her body like trash.

The father of seven is charged with felony murder on claims he fatally beat the still-missing toddler with a hard stick over a bed-wetting incident on Dec. 2, disposed of her body at an incinerator and fabricated a tale of an armed carjacking to cover up the crime.

"Bianca Jones is dead. She died at 2 years old and he killed her," Assistant Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb told a Wayne County Circuit Court jury during closing arguments Wednesday.

"He killed her and threw away her body with the garbage. There was no carjacking. Bianca did not run away. There was no child abduction. She is dead."

Goldfarb stressed the evidence in the nearly month-long trial shows Lane goes to "unimaginable lengths" to punish a child for potty accidents, remarking his older daughter had dirty panties shoved into her mouth for her slip-up.

"He paddled Bianca Jones in her bedroom until she died," she said. "Babies don't expel blood and saliva onto pillows when tapped on the butt."

Goldfarb said Lane then left his Mitchell Street home with a deceased Bianca and tossed out the "little baby he never wanted in the first place."

"The only known thing he ever did for Bianca's mother was give her money for an abortion. She was trash to him from the beginning: unwanted and unloved," Goldfarb said. "The timeline, the phone records, the 911 call he never made and all of the defendant's behavior. The defendant's story makes no sense at all."

"When you put the puzzle pieces together in this case, there will be a picture of the defendant and the defendant's guilt. He didn't even call 911. It's suspicious from the beginning and the police know it."

Lane faces mandatory life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder and child abuse in the baby's death.

A key piece of evidence in the circumstantial case against Lane is a forensic canine expert whose cadaver-detecting dog picked up the scent of human decomposition in Lane's car and home.

Lane has claimed Bianca was in the back seat of his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis the morning of Dec. 2 when he was approached by armed carjackers near Brush Street and Grand River. He did not call 911.

The vehicle was found shortly after, but the child was not inside.

Defense maintains there's no evidence that proves Lane abused his daughter or that she's deceased since her body hasn't been found .

During his closing, Lane's attorney, Terry L. Johnson, attempted to cast doubt on the prosecution's theory that Lane spent hours toting around a dead baby.

"He killed the baby, put the dead baby back in the bed with two other children, went upstairs to sleep, woke up the next morning, got the dead baby up and took the dead baby to the potty," Johnson mocked.

Johnson said there was no testimony during trial that his client "beat" baby Bianca.

"Nobody has come forth and said 'I heard him beat her,'" he said.

Johnson Wednesday instead pointed to evidence from a Detroit Police canine officer whose dog led him to an abandoned apartment complex where it picked up a black ski mask.

"Prosecutors want to ignore all of the evidence that would exonerate Mr. Lane," he told the jury.

Lane, he said, previously told police one of the armed gunman in the alleged carjacking was wearing a dark colored skull cap. A witness, Johnson added, also reported seeing an armed gunman in the area that day.

"They say it's impossible. It's crazy," Johnson said. "This is their evidence that they are ignoring. They already had their mind made up.

Johnson reminded the jury that Lane was interviewed by police for hours but never admitted to killing the child.

"Even after that five hours of that pushing and pushing … you know what he never said 'you're right, I did it,'" he said. "You know why? Because he didn't."

"I'm not trying to make Mr. Lane father of the year," Johnson said. "Just because he acted like a little punk (by not calling 911) and got scared and screamed 'my baby,' it doesn't make him guilty."

Johnson added that the cadaver-dog's alleged hit on human decomposition is "junk science," since the expert admitted there's no methodology to confirm the response — barking — is accurate when nothing is recovered, as in this case.

"They want you to believe he's so good at hiding things, he's great, he's a magician," Johnson told the jury. "Isn't it possible someone could have driven off with her? They don't want to believe that."

The closings got under way after testimony concluded Wednesday morning with a rebuttal witness from prosecutors.

Patrice Hall countered testimony from a Detroit Police officer on Tuesday who took the stand to detail an encounter with a little girl she believed was Bianca eight days after the child disappeared and was presumed dead.

Officer Tanika Gibbs said Tuesday in court that she saw a child Dec. 10 at a home on Houghton — where Hall lives — with the same distinctive hairstyle as Bianca. She didn't put the connection together until two days later, when she saw a photograph of the missing child on the Internet.

The officer testified that she reported the alleged sighting to two homicide sergeants, a television news reporter and sent an email to the FBI.

Gibbs said nothing ever came of the tip and she did not return to the house, nor did she tell prosecutors or Lane's attorney.

Hall testified Wednesday that the little girl Gibbs saw was her then 2-year-old granddaughter, not Bianca. Hall also produced a photo of the child Wednesday in court.

Lane chose not to testify, telling Circuit Judge Vonda R. Evans on Tuesday: "I don't think it's a good idea."

Evans denied a request Tuesday from Lane's attorney, Terry L. Johnson, to strike the cadaver dog testimony. The judge also declined to bypass the jury and consider an acquittal for Lane on claims from Johnson that the prosecution failed to prove its case.

Deliberations are expected to begin Wednesday afternoon.

D'Andre Lane, father of 7 children, including 2-year-old Bianca Jones, was tearful as a Detroit police officer told of a December incident where she believes she saw the missing toddler, just a little over a week after she was reported missing.

Bianca went missing on December 2, and her father is currently facing charges for child abuse and first degree murder in regard to her disappearance. Lane claims that he was car-jacked with the little girl in the back seat, while prosecutors maintain he beat the little girl to death after she wet the bed, and then disposed of her body and fabricated the story.

But if what Officer Tanika Gibbs says is true, then this really is a child abduction case, rather than a father murdering his daughter. Officer Gibbs says that when responding to a call on Detroit's west side on December 10, she saw a little girl with French braids with beads that were parted down the middle with ponytails. The next day, she happened across a photo of Bianca Jones, with the same distinct hairstyle. She insists that the child she saw and the missing toddler are one and the same. Though she spoke with two homicide sergeants, emailed the FBI and called a television news reporter, nothing came of her information.

Another officer, who was in charge of a dog used in the search for Bianca said that the dog had led him to an abandoned apartment building, where a black ski mask was found. However, Lane's attorney, Terry Johnson, is hoping to have all canine evidence thrown out, as there has been no body recovered.

So, it is possible that this man is innocent? Family and friends, even Bianca's mother, say they don't believe D'Andre Lane to be capable of this. They say he is a patient and attentive father. So why is he on trial? Did he really kill his daughter, or is someone, somewhere, laughing while they follow his trial, knowing that they got away with their crime? Closing arguments in the case began Wednesday, so soon enough it will be revealed what the jury believes. Hopefully, they make the right choice.

Bianca Jones, who disappeared Dec. 2, remains missing. Her father, D’Andre Lane, closed his eyes as his lawyer, Terry L. Johnson, rubbed his shoulders as the verdict was read by the jury forewoman Friday afternoon.

"We did the best we could, but we can’t bring back Bianca," Assistant Prosecutor Carin Goldfarb said after the verdict in Third District Court. "That’s the sad part about this."

Lane, 32, is to be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 16. He faces life in prison without parole on the murder charge.

Johnson said there were issues raised during the trial that would allow Lane to appeal the case.

“Mr. Lane still maintains his innocence,” Johnson said outside Judge Vonda Evans’ courtroom. "He was as surprised as we were by the verdict, based upon what we believe is a lack of evidence.”

Evans spoke to jurors for about 30 minutes after they rendered the verdict.

As the jury entered the courtroom, a female juror wiped tears from her eyes. The jurors leftthrough a back passageway. Jurors told Evans they did not want to speak publicly.

During the trial, Johnson pointed to witnesses who said they saw Bianca alive the next morning and said abductors took her after the carjacking.

But prosecutors described Lane as a manipulative child abuser who killed Bianca while disciplining her with a stick the night before her disappearance. They said he wrapped her lifeless body in a blanket, strapped her in her car seat the next morning then dumped her before reporting the abduction.

Lane called 911 at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 2, near Grand Boulevard and Brush, claiming that two men had carjacked his vehicle at gunpoint. He said they drove away with his daughter in the back seat. His car was found a few blocks away, with the engine running and the doors open.

Detroit police said more than 1,100 people turned out for the official volunteer search, which began Dec. 5, three days after the girl’s father reported her missing.

Bianca’s mother, Banika Jones, was not seen at the sentencing. At her home on Custer just off Woodward in Detroit, a Crime Stoppers poster featuring a picture of Bianca and offering a $22,500 reward still hangs in the front window. No one answered the door this afternoon.

A Detroit Police spokeswoman said this week that the investigation will remain open as long as the girl remains missing.

Detroit Dad Convicted In Daughter Bianca Jones' Murder Calls Judge 'Liar' While Being Escorted Out Of Court

Two-year-old Bianca Jones has been missing since Friday, Dec. 5 at 9:45 a.m. when her father, D'Andre Lane, 32, claims she was taken during a carjacking. Lane told police he was driving his silver 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with Bianca strapped in a car seat in the back when two assailants told him to check the taillight which was out. When Lane stepped out of the car, the assailants allegedly jumped in, stealing his car with Biana still inside of it. Lane called the police and officers were able to locate the car ten minutes later less than a mile away from where it was stolen. Bianca Jones, however, was missing. Since Bianca's disappearance, Lane has come under fire from his family and the police. While the two-year-old remains missing, it is unclear whether her father was involved with her disappearance. A cadaver dog reportedly sensed Bianca's scent in Lane's home and in and around his car. While no charges have been made, police are investigating the case.

D’Andre Lane, 33, denied any role in his daughter’s death despite prosecutors' claims he staged a carjacking to cover up the disappearance of Bianca Jones, just two years old, according to CBS Detroit.

The body of the child has not been found, but prosecutors were able to prove Lane not only faked a carjacking but enlisted his neighbors to search for Bianca, fully knowing she would not be found. He was found guilty of murdering her in a rage after the toddler wet her pants, although Lane did admit he did “discipline” Bianca.

“I just wanna say, first and foremost, I did not murder my child; I did not abuse my child. I love all of my children — all of them,” Lane said in court on Monday. “You’re the only ones who said she’s dead. No one got on that stand and said she’s dead. No one said they found evidence that proved she’s dead. But I understand — this is what you need. You need a conviction; you need somebody to take the fall; you need somebody to take the blame.”

While bailiffs were escorting the Detroit dad, who fathered seven children with seven different women, from the court, he walked in front of the bench and called the judge a “liar” and by her first name.

“It’s very unfortunate that you made that statement, but I’m going to attribute it to the fact that you’re a person that is suffering very deeply because of what you’ve done,” Evans said, incensed. “You figured that (in) a city plagued with violence, understaffed by police, who would care about the disappearance of your child? But you were wrong.”

From the start of the trial Lane was painted as an abusive father unhealthily obsessed with his children’s potty training, the Detroit News reported. Police dogs determined a body was stored in Bianca’s room and in the backseat of the car, which was found just an hour after a gunman supposedly stole it.

Lane also told detectives he hit the girl in the head with a stick after she urinated in her bed. His attorney said it was a “trial by media,” an assessment that Lane’s wife backed up.

"They never looked for my daughter," she said. "They never really cared, they only wanted evidence and a conviction and to close out the case without solving it. I want the court to know they made a mistake, and I intend to correct it."
