FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) - A Foley man is behind bars after police said he raped a young girl, and this isn't his first offense. Police said Billy Readman faced similar charges before moving to Foley, and that he was on probation at the time of his most recent arrest.

Readman is a registered sex offender for the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl in Missouri. He's in jail again for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl.

Lt. David White said this is not his first run in with the Foley Police Department.

"We had contact with him in 2009. We had received a tip that he had moved here from Missouri and failed to register, and we arrested him on the charge of failure to register,” said White.

Readman was on probation when police got a complaint he had offended again.

"These types of cases are very difficult to deal with, especially involving young children like this,” Readman said.

Police said through the investigation they were led to Readman's home, which is listed in a mobile home park on Doc McDuffie Road. Once inside, they said they found an enormous amount of pornographic images, all of children.

"We received a search warrant for that computer, and our forensic examiner is in the process of looking at that computer right now. But as of right now we’ve found over 10,000 images of child pornography,” White said.

Police said he will be charged with that as well.

"The sex offender laws are there for a reason. Sometimes you feel like they need to be more astringent on them. We deal with them the best we can and hopefully protect the citizens from this happening again,” White said.

Readman has not yet been charged with possession of pornographic images, but police said the charges are coming.

Right now, he is charged with rape and violation of the Alabama Sex Offender act for having contact with his former victim. His bond is set at $1 million.

White said Readman is accused of forcing the girl to have sex. “This was not consensual,” he said.


He said police believe the incident took place late in 2011.

White said Readman was convicted of sex abuse involving a minor in Missouri before coming to Foley. In 2009, Foley police learned that he had moved to the area and had not registered as a sex offender as state law requires, White said.

Readman was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender following the 2009 arrest. He was on probation on that charge when he was arrested Saturday, White said.

White said Foley police also seized a computer in Readman’s possession.


“There are over 10,000 pornographic images on that computer of children,” White said. “We have not charged him with child pornography yet, but other charges are pending.”
