Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County— Update: Police arrest a man they say tried to sell a baby in a grocery store parking lot in Dauphin County on Friday morning. Jermaine Williams, 40, of Harrisburg, was taken into custody overnight in Hall Manor. Williams was placed in Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $75,000 dollars bail.
He is facing numerous charges including endangering the welfare of a child.
Susquehanna Police have identified the man they believe tried to sell a baby in a grocery store parking lot Friday morning. Police say they have obtained a warrant for 40-year-old Jermaine Williams and are charging him with Endangering the Welfare of Children and Dealing in Infant Children.
It happened in the parking lot of the Blue Mountain Commons on Lingelstown Road. Investigators say the suspect approached a woman and asked for money while attempting to hand her the child as if he were trying to sell it. Police say she refused and that he continued to ask others in the parking lot.
Police say the suspect was seen with a woman driving a maroon Ford Taurus or Tempo type vehicle.
Ann Pacey, a resident in the area, was shocked to hear about the incident.
“I think he's out of his mind,” said Pacey. “Why anyone would try to get rid of a child like that and think they could get away with it, is beyond me.”
Police are still searching for Williams.
