A father who admitted beheading his daughter with a sword in a so-called 'honour killing' in northwestern India showed no remorse today when he was seen for the first time since the shocking incident.

Oghad Singh surrendered at a police station two days ago, carrying his daughter's head in one hand and the bloodied ceremonial sword he had used to chop it off in the other.

Residents of Dungarji village expressed shock as they performed the last rites for the 20-year-old woman who had accused of sleeping around by her father.

Police said Mr Singh, a marble miner, accused his daughter of bringing dishonour to the family and of making it hard to find husbands for her two unmarried sisters.

Women wailing in grief lined the dusty road of the village in Rajasthan state as a procession carried Manju Kanwar's remains to her funeral pyre.

As in many north and west Indian villages, the women, including her mother and four sisters, were not allowed to attend the funeral. This is a Travesty!!!!!

A coroner stitched Kanwar's head onto her body for the funeral.

About 100 men, many of them relatives wearing ceremonial Rajput warrior clan turbans, surrounded her muslin-wrapped body, and her brother lit the funeral pyre.

Villagers condemned the father's actions as extreme. They said the father, his shirt soaked in blood, had carried his daughter's head through the village, describing what he'd done to neighbors.

Narayan Singh, a distant relative, said: 'He told me that he took the sword out, and when the daughter was all alone in the house he beheaded her with a single stroke and the head fell on the ground.'

He said he persuaded Singh to surrender, and took him by motorcycle to a police station 2 miles away. Police charged Singh, 46, with murder.

Officer Ranjit Singh described the sight of the father sitting in the station's waiting room holding the head in one hand and the sword in the other was 'ghastly'.

He added: 'Oghad admitted immediately that he killed his daughter because she had earned a bad name for the family.'
Police described Kanwar's recent life as difficult and unorthodox for the traditional community of about 1,000 just outside the Rajasthani tourist town of Udaipur.

She left her husband from an arranged marriage two years ago and moved back home to live with her parents.

She recently began seeing several men which 'disgusted' her father, deputy police superintendent Umesh Ojha said.

'Oghad said he was fed up with the lifestyle of his daughter,' Ojha said.

When Manju eloped with one man two weeks ago, her father forced her to return on Sunday and killed her.

Rapidly modernizing India faces increasing social clashes as youths resist traditions like arranged marriage or limits on women venturing outside their parents' or husbands' homes.

The country is considered one of the harshest places in the world for women, with female infanticide and child marriage still common.

The U.N.'s gender inequality index places India second to last, above Saudi Arabia, based on labor, reproductive health, education and politics. The index does not consider issues of violence.

Police in the northern India state of Rajasthan say they were stunned when a man showed up at a police outpost holding a bloody human head in one hand and a sword in another.

The head was that of the man's daughter, chopped off because of her "indecent behavior," Umesh Ojha, deputy superintendent of the district police, told CNN.

Investigators say the man, Oghad Singh, had paraded the head through the village on his way to the police station.

Singh's daughter, Manju Kunwar, was in her 20s and was living with her parents after divorcing her husband two years ago. Her father accused her of acting indecently with other men.

Authorities say Kunwar's mother is a farmer who was working in the fields at the time and was too distraught to talk. Singh works in a marble quarry.

The beheading happened on Tuesday in Dengar Ka Guda, a village in Rajsamand District about 400 kilometers, or 250 miles, from Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan.

Kunwar's head and the rest of her body were cremated according to Hindu tradition, police said.

India is filled with extremes on many levels, including how women are treated. In India women hold some of the highest positions in society, from company CEOs to the president and speaker of the House, but this case highlights another side of India, one in which women still suffer the consequences of long-held traditions that govern their behavior in Indian society.

This month India topped the Thomas Reuters Foundation poll as the worst place to be a woman among the top 19 economies in the world. The foundation cited abuse, killings and discrimination on a scale unparalleled in the other developed nations.

Well, it seems that bat-shit f\'d up crazy isn’t contained to the 48 contiguous states, it happens overseas too.

Oghad Singh, of the northern India state of Rajasthan, was found by police holding the head of his daughter in one hand and a sword in the other after he was finished parading it around his village. Oghad claimed that he had beheaded his daughter in her 20s for her recent “indecent behavior” with men.

The daughter, Manju Kunwar, was back living with her mother and father after a divorce. Her father claims that she had been recently acting indecently and the proper punishment would be to chop her head off. Really, Pops? What f\'ing year is it?

In case your knowledge on how women are treated in India is lacking, much like myself, let me enlighten you as to what I’ve found during my research. In India, some women in various areas of the country can hold some of the highest positions in society; from company CEOs to the president and speaker of the House. In other areas, gender discrimination is alive and well. Women are subjected to dowry deaths, rapes, molestations and a multitude of other crimes against women are commonplace even amongst the socio-economic elite. More everyday treatment of women is very archaic, in that they are supposed to remain quiet and obey their fathers and husbands. Women are not allowed to raise their voice and opinions.

So keeping with that old-school mentally, I assume that Oghad Singh thought it the right thing to do when his daughter was acting offensively in his opinion. He ordered up a punishment that only the Queen of Hearts would agree with, and his daughter met her death.

The mother, who is a farmer, was at work in the fields when it all went down. I think this speaks volumes about what’s happened here.

Manju’s head and the rest of her remains have been cremated, keeping in Hindu tradition. No word on what has come of the father. Do you even get arrested for that kind of thing in India? I don’t know, but I sure as f**k hope so.

RIP Manju. Nothing that you could have done would have been indecent enough to justify what your lunatic of a father did to you.

I've searched for news about this story several times. Today I got 56,500 results from Google, 90% dated June 2012.
No updates or other references leads me to believe that this man was not held responsible for the beheading murder of his 20 year old daughter Manju Kunwar.

India was named as the worst place in the world for women to live out of the top 19 economies in the world in a poll by Thomas Reuters Foundation
