Police are looking for two New Mexico boys who disappeared with their father.

7-year-old Paul Gonzales and 5-year-old James Ruben Gonzales have been missing for more than a month after going to visit their father, 52-year-old James Gonzales. Their mother dropped the brothers off at the Los Angeles International Airport on August 24th. From there, they boarded a plane to spend the weekend with their father in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But when their mother flew out to Albuquerque the following week to pick them up, the boys were gone. Police went to the father’s home and found it empty.

Both boys have brown hair and brown eyes. Their mother says her sons are not only brothers, but best friends. A felony arrest warrant is out for the father. He also has a pending charge for theft. The former high school principal resigned shortly before the boys’ disappearance.

And we have a Find Our Children success to report. Two children who were featured on Find Our Children, Larry Grant, Jr. and Trinity Grant, have been found alive and are back at home. They were missing for more than a year after disappearing with their father in Georgia. So far, 30 children we’ve featured on Find our Children have been recovered.

Find Our Children is In Session’s partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. If you have any information on the brothers mentioned above or any other missing children, please call 1-800-THE-LOST. "I want this nightmare to end. And I just ask the public to please, please keep an eye out and help my find my children."

Maricela Gonzales made that plea on Monday at the Wine Festival grounds in Bernalillo. That is where she put up fliers with the pictures of her seven-year-old son, Paul, five-year-old son, Ruben, and her ex-husband James Gonzales.

Maricela Gonzales flies in from California every other weekend to pick up her children. They then return to California. But she said in late August, James Gonzales did not drop off the kids at the Sunport.

New Mexico State Police said James Gonzales now has an active warrant out of Sandoval County for custodial interference.

Maricela Gonzales and her attorney said they are especially concerned for the kids because James Gonzales left his job as Director of Education on the Santa Ana Pueblo. They also said he moved out of his home in Rio Rancho.

Rio Rancho police said when they checked the home, it was vacant.

Maricela Gonzales is hoping people will see the fliers and call with information on the children.

She said fliers were put up at the Wine Festival grounds because James Gonzales has family and friends in Bernalillo and hope they can provide information.

Maricela Gonzales and her attorney do not think police are doing enough to find the children. Rio Rancho police said they planned to forward information to state police.

State police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 that until that happens, there is nothing they can do.

James Gonzales is still listed as Director of Education on the Santa Ana Pueblo website. KOB called to check on his current status. We also called one of his lawyers for a response, but have not heard back.

Maricela said this to her children while talking with KOB on Monday. "Pablito, Ruben I just want to tell you that mommy loves you. And mommy is praying for you and praying for your safe return."
