STEVENSVILLE, Md.- Maryland State Police and sheriff's deputies are continuing their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of a Queen Anne's County woman who has been missing for the past two days.
The woman is identified as 51-year-old Robin L. Pope of Stevensville.
She is described as white, 5-foot-4, 105 pounds and with brown hair.
Police said that until December, Pope had been living with her husband, Wayne A. Pope Jr., at a home on 100 block of Beach Road. The couple separated in December and Robin Pope had been staying at a home owned by a female friend on Kent Island.
Police said that shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday, March 2, the county's Emergency Operations Center received a call from Wayne Pope, who reported suspicious circumstances involving his wife.
When sheriff's office deputies responded to Wayne Pope's home, he told them his wife Robin had come to the home late Friday night to retrieve some belongings. After she arrived, he left the home.
When he returned to the home early Saturday morning, he found his wife's black 2011 Infinity still parked in the driveway, but she was not at the home. He also said that his dog, a Great Dane, was missing. Deputies found Robin Pope's keys, purse, credit cards and cash still in her vehicle.
Deputies entered Robin Pope into the National Crime Information Center database as a missing person and information was forwarded to area law enforcement agencies.
They interviewed relatives and friends as they continued the search for Pope. Authorities said a deputy responded to a home in the vicinity of the Pope's home, where their dog was found dead near the pier, with obvious trauma to the upper torso. The dog's body has been taken to the Queen Anne's County Humane Society pending further investigation.
On Saturday evening, the Sheriff's Office contacted the MSP Criminal Investigation Bureau and requested troopers take the lead in this investigation. Troopers from the State Police Homicide Unit and Criminal Enforcement Division responded and have been working the investigation since.
Investigators and crime scene technicians are continuing to examine the location where Robin Pope was last seen.
With the help of marine units from the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the Sheriff's Office, the state police dive team will be conducting a search of the Chesapeake Bay in the area of the scene on Sunday.
Anyone with information about Robin Pope is urged to contact police at the Centreville Barrack at (410) 758-1101. Callers may remain confidential.

Search on for missing Maryland mom after dog found dead

Robin Pope was reported missing by her husband early Saturday; their dog was also gone
The dog was later found dead near their house
Police call disappearance 'suspicious', conduct searches with dive teams, sonar, cadaver dogs
Authorities continued efforts Tuesday to locate a missing Maryland woman after her dog’s body was found by a pier near her Stevensville home Saturday.
Maryland State Police described the disappearance of 51-year-old Robin Lee Pope as “suspicious” in a press release Sunday while state troopers, crime scene technicians, and sheriff’s deputies searched for evidence with the help of other local agencies.
Pope was last seen Friday night at the house she shared with her estranged husband, Wayne Pope, according to state police. The couple separated in December and Robin Pope was staying at a friend’s home, but she had returned that night to retrieve some of her belongings, police said.
According to state police, Wayne Pope told investigators Robin was at the house when he left around 11:00 or 11:30 p.m. Friday. Her car was still parked in the driveway when he got back early Saturday, but she was gone, as was the couple’s 11-year-old Great Dane.
Wayne Pope called authorities around 2:00 a.m. Saturday to report Robin missing. Deputies found her keys, purse and credit cards in her vehicle, according to state police.
On Saturday afternoon, local residents walking along the shore near Pope’s home found the body of the Great Dane in the water. State police said Monday that the dog had suffered no external traumatic injuries. A cause of death has not been established, but a veterinarian determined that the dog did not drown.
Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley told HLN that Robin Pope has not made contact with her daughter, with whom she normally spoke several times a day, since Friday.
“Certainly, that’s unusual,” he said.
Police said Monday that investigators have conducted interviews with many of Pope’s friends and relatives. They have also searched homes and vehicles used by the family.
Dive teams and a sonar-equipped boat have scoured the area of the Chesapeake Bay behind the Popes’ house. Cadaver dogs and a state police helicopter have also been utilized in the investigation.
“Police continue to consider all possibilities and have ruled nothing out,” Shipley said in a press release Monday.
Shipley told HLN police have not identified any suspects in the case at this time.
“It’s still early in the investigation…We don’t speculate this far out,” he said.
Police are planning additional searches on land and water Tuesday in the region around the Pope home.
Attempts to reach Wayne Pope for comment on the case Monday were unsuccessful.
Police described Robin Pope as a white female, 5’4”, 105 lbs., with brown hair. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to call the Maryland State Police at 410-758-1101.

KI woman still missing; no external injuries to dog
STEVENSVILLE – The search is continuing for a Kent Island woman who has not been seen or heard from for the past three days.
Robin L. Pope, 51, of Stevensville, was last seen Friday night, March 1, by her husband Wayne A. Pope Jr. at their house in the 100-block of Beach Drive in Kent Island Estates. The couple had separated in December and Robin had been staying with a friend’s house, also on Kent Island, police said.
Robin’s estranged husband reported her missing to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office early Saturday. He said his wife had come by the house late the Friday night to pick up some belongings and he had left when she arrived. When he returned home her car was still in the driveway, but she was not at the home. Their 11-year-old Great Dane, Bella, also was missing.
Deputies found Robin’s keys, purse, credit cards and cash still in her car. She is described as a white female, 5’4”, 105 lbs., with brown hair.
“The search for Ms. Pope has been ongoing,” said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police spokesman. “Extensive searches of the area near the Pope home were conducted Saturday and Sunday. Investigators are continuing to consider all possibilities on ways to find Ms. Pope.”
A sonar-equipped boat from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office searched the Chesapeake Bay behind the home Saturday; the Maryland State Police Underwater Recovery Team divers searched the water near the home for about six hours Sunday; an aerial search was conducted by MSP helicopter; and ground searches have been conducted using Natural Resources Police cadaver dogs.
Nearby residents walking along the shoreline in the early afternoon Saturday found the body of a Great Dane in the water near a pier at a neighboring residence. The dog was positively identified as Bella, police said.
At first, police said the dog had suffered obvious trauma to the upper torso, but a local veterinarian examined the body Monday and determined were no external traumatic injuries. Instead, Bella had large tumors in her upper torso.
The veterinarian said the dog did not drown, nor did it die from external injuries. An exact cause of death has not been determined and additional tests are under way, Shipley said.
There was no water search Monday. Investigators have searched homes and vehicles used by the Popes and conducted numerous interviews with families and friends, Shipley said.
Police continue to consider all possibilities and have ruled nothing out, he added.
Investigators continue to urge anyone with information about Robin Pope to contact them immediately at 410-758-1101.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, assisted by investigators from the MSP Criminal Enforcement Division, the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office, and uniform personnel from the Natural Resources Police, Sheriff’s Office and State Police, is continuing the investigation.

At least the dog did not die of trauma. Maybe Bella died on her own?? OMG, what a sad case.
My first instinct is the last person that saw Robin alive.

Desperate Search Continues For Missing Stevensville Woman
March 5, 2013 11:11 PM
Reporting Kai Jackson
STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — Almost four days after a Queen Anne’s County woman vanished, the desperate search continues. Police dive teams and ground crews are combing Stevensville and now the community is launching its own effort to find Robin Pope.
Kai Jackson explains how they’re rallying together.
From the air, on the ground and even in the water, Maryland law enforcement agencies searched Queen Anne’s County for 51-year-old Robin Pope. Tuesday night, family and friends came together to help police with the search.
“In about a 24-hour period since we created the search event, we’re over 200 people now guaranteed to be here on Sunday,” said Gina Knapp, a friend of Robin Pope’s.
Pope was last seen Friday by her estranged husband when she went to his house to pick up some items. Police say the husband told them he left Pope there but when he returned hours later, her car was still at the house—but Pope was gone.
As loved ones searched Tuesday night, they also prayed.
“It touched me so. It just was unbelievable and I knew we had to do something tonight,” said Debbie Shaw, a family friend.
Pope’s Great Dane was found dead the day she went missing. So far, police are calling it a sad coincidence.
“The dog did not die from any kind of external force or trauma,” said Maryland State Police Lt. Greg Shipley.
“Whether you’re a spiritual person or not, please say a prayer that we find Robin safe, and soon,” Knapp said.
If you have any information, please call police.

Was Robin Pope Murdered?
March 05, 2013 05:05 PM EST
Was Robin Pope murdered? The missing woman still hasn't been located and dive teams are scouring water areas for clues -- some of the areas more than once. Meanwhile, it's been revealed that the woman's dog (who died) didn't die from external injuries, nor did it drown. So how did it die? With the woman still missing, her dog dead and her vehicle abandoned it's virtually impossible to consider a positive outcome.
Her estranged husband reported her missing, but her belongings were found in his home. The two had been living separately and were going through a divorce. This immediately raises concern in the search for the missing woman, but officials have not made any definitive statements about the situation.
It should also be noted that detectives have avoided acknowledging whether or not foul play is a possibility, but with the evidence that's been released to the public, what do you think happened?
Nonetheless, there are other theories to consider. If Robin Pope wasn't murdered, was she depressed and suicidal? Going through a divorce is one of the most emotionally draining times in a person's life, so it's likely that this divorce was taking its toll on her. This is just another theory in a case that appears to have no answers yet. Hopefully some clues are found in the latest dive searches.

Community plans Sunday morning search for Robin Pope

STEVENSVILLE – Robin L. Pope of Kent Island remains missing, and police have no new developments in the case, said Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley Thursday. Pope’s friends are determined to do what they can to help find her. Gina Knapp and Debbie Shaw are organizing a volunteer search for Sunday morning, if Pope has not been found before then.
Extensive ground, aerial and water searches have been conducted since Pope, 51, was reported missing early Saturday, March 2. She was last seen shortly before midnight Friday, March 2, at the Beach Road home in Kent Island Estates she shared with her husband Wayne until they separated in December, police said.
Robin's estranged husband said she had come by the house to pick up some belongings Friday night and he had left when she arrived. When he returned home her car was still in the driveway, but she was not at the home. Her keys, purse, credit cards and cash were still in her car. The Popes’ 11-year-old Great Dane, Bella, was also missing. Bella was found dead on the beach Saturday afternoon; police have not determined the dog’s cause of death. Yes, they did..or so I thought.
In addition to police efforts, about 50 community volunteers also held a search Tuesday evening after the official search by trained rescue groups ended but before it got dark. They concentrated on a wooded area in the community, Knapp said.
“We wanted to get in one more search before the storm,” she said.
One of the investigators, Det. Sgt. Steve Hall, attended that search, Shipley said. He said police are aware of the search planned for Sunday but was unaware if any of the investigators planned to go.
“It’s very commendable for the community to do that,” Shipley said. “We need all the help we can get in regards to information pertaining to the disappearance.”
Tuesday evening’s search ended with a candlelight vigil for Robin on the beach near where her dog’s body was found, Knapp said.
Plans for Sunday’s search started just a few days ago, but more than 200 people have already signed up through the Facebook event to help, Knapp said.
“The amount of support has been overwhelming,” Knapp said. “It really warms your heart.”
Sign in for the search is set to begin at 9 a.m. Due to the large number of people involved, the start location has been moved to the Kent Island Estates Community Hall, next to the fire department. Organizers hope to give instructions and have everyone dispatched by 9:30 a.m., Knapp said.
Searchers are asked to bring cell phones and water and dress appropriately for the weather. No children under 16 will be permitted to participate.
“We’re trying to cover from Robin’s house down to the point,” Knapp said. “We’re going to knock on every door, hit every road south on both sides of Route 8.
“We haven’t given up hope.”
Those wanting to join the search can sign up through Facebook, Community Search for Robin Pope, or contact Knapp at 443-254-2234. Extra parking is available at the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department, next door to the community hall, and at Romancoke Pier at the end of Route 8.
Robin L. Pope is described as a white female, 5'4", 105 lbs., with brown hair. Investigators urge anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact them immediately at 410-758-1101.

Family Of Missing Stevensville Woman To Hold Community Search This Weekend
March 7, 2013 6:58 PM
KENT ISLAND, Md. (WJZ) — Gone without a trace. That’s the reality an Eastern Shore family is dealing with.
As police continue to search for their mother, the family is helping investigators with a search of their own.
Gigi Barnett has details.
State police are calling the disappearance of Robin Pope suspicious. Her family is too. Thursday, her family spoke with us about the search for their mother and the hope that they have that she’ll be found, safe and sound.
“It’s unusual, it’s not like her. It’s just really hard,” said Rachael Pope, daughter.
Rachael Pope and Priscilla Hastings have been searching for their mother, 51-year-old Robin Pope, for nearly a week now. As police conduct several critical missing person searches on Kent Island and in the Chesapeake, Pope’s disappearance is odd to her daughters, who kept in constant contact with their mother.
“I get about ten phone calls from her, and if I don’t get back to her within the hour, she freaks out and is worried that something happened to me,” said Rachael Pope.
So when the roles reversed last week, Rachael frantically called her big sister, who lives thousands of miles away in California.
“And I woke up again to text messages that she was scared she hadn’t heard from mom and I flew out immediately,” said Hastings.
No one has seen or heard from Robin Pope since Friday. Police say she returned to her house to retrieve some personal belongings. Her estranged husband, Wayne Pope Jr., was there. He told police that he left shortly after she arrived and he returned a few hours later, only to find her car still in the driveway. Robin Pope had vanished.
“We’re just hoping that we find her safe and sound,” said Rachael Pope.
The family’s plea for help is quickly spreading over several Internet websites. They’re even organizing a search of their own this weekend. The sisters say they have to stay optimistic that someone will find Robin Pope.
“We’re going to find her. Just come forward with anything you have,” Hastings said.
State police say they are not limiting their search for Robin Pope to Kent Island. Detectives have entered her name into a national missing persons database.

Robin Pope Search Continues, Missing 10 Days From Stevensville, Md.
7:20 PM, Mar 10, 2013
KENT ISLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two-hundred people came out to search for a Stevensville, Maryland woman who's been missing for ten days.
Robin Pope, 51, disappeared from her waterfront home on the Chesapeake Bay on March 1.
Jack Devaughn came out on Sunday to participate in the search, "Right now it's just looking for anything we can find, anything."
Friends, neighbors and strangers knocked on doors, searched neighborhoods and checked the shore line.
"If it was my mom or friend I'd want the same thing," a volunteer said.
Pope's daughters Rachael and Priscilla organized the search, they talked with the media earlier this week, and today thanked the volunteers.
"We're just hoping to find her safe and sound. This is unusual, it's not like her. It's just really hard," said Rachel Pope.
Debbie Shaw is a family friend who helped coordinate the search efforts, "I couldn't imagine my children going through this, it breaks my heart."
The local volunteer fire department is serving as the command post. Two-hundred people have been broken into groups of eight to find Robin. This is a private search but fire, police and the sheriff's departments are all in support of the volunteers.
Organizers had not seen Robin Pope's husband, Wayne, during Sunday's search and had no information if he would show up. The couple had lived in their Kent Island home until they separated in December.
Investigators say the day she disappeared she had returned to the house to get some belongings. Her husband told police he left the house when she arrived. When he returned she had vanished and her car still in the driveway.
Since then people have searched in the air, dived in the Chesapeake and scoured the area.
The family dog, an 11-year-old Great Dane, was found dead in the water along the shoreline with no external injuries as first suspected.
While there were no signs of Robin after Sunday's search, friends are staying optimistic.
"We can't give up hope in finding her. We feel she is nearby."
There have been no arrests.
Anyone with information to the whereabouts of Robin Pope are asked to call the Maryland State Police at 410-758-1101.

Robin Pope's daughters talk about new evidence, reward in missing woman's case
Stevensville, Md. - Robin Pope has been missing for two weeks. She mysteriously disappeared March first and the case has shaken her small community. But no one is feeling the impact more than Pope's two daughters, who sat down with us today at Hemingway's to talk about new evidence in the case and a potential reward they hope will stir up tips.
Rachael Pope and Priscilla Hastings live on opposite coasts, more than 2,000 miles, but it took just one phone call to bring them together in Maryland. Hastings says, “I immediately knew something was wrong."
The girl's mother, 51-year-old Robin Pope, had gone missing from Kent Island. She was last seen days ago after vanishing, leaving behind her beloved dog, Bella, and her belongings. Rachael Pope knew the items left behind were troubling, saying, "As soon as we realized she left her cellphone, her ID, her purse, all of her money and some of her medication, that's when we knew she wouldn't just leave and go on vacation and come back because those are things she needs on a daily basis."
And now as the days pass, the concern grows for Robin's children. Her daughters say they’re trying to keep Rob’s face fresh in peoples' minds as they keep the worst thoughts from theirs. Hastings says she is struggling, "You wake up every morning realizing all over again that it is real."
It is a real nightmare this family is living as they wait for answers. So far investigators don't have many to provide. State Police spokesman Greg Shipley says crews hit the water again Wednesday in a boat provided by the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff. But Shipley says they still have no idea what happened to Pope or where she is.
Rachael Pope says a search on Sunday turned up a shirt they believe is Robin's. She says it was found next to where her dog was found. For this family, it is the latest clue in a mystery they are desperate to solve. Hastings says, “As the days go on and other people start to forget about this, it's getting heavier and heavier for us."
The girls say they’re working on a reward with the Pope family, hoping the addition of money will stir tips and jog peoples’ memories. They expect to release details about the reward in the next few days, indicating the money is being provided by Wayne Pope’s family. Pope, Robin’s estranged husband, is the one who reported her missing.
Rachael and Priscilla say they can’t just wait by the phone for a call. That’s why they’ve been so active, telling anyone they can about Robin, assisting with searches and putting her picture out there. Hastings hopes someone or something will provide the answer they’re seeking, "We're not going to stop. Nobody's going to stop, not her best friends, us. We're just not going to stop, no matter what it takes."

New details in search for missing Maryland woman
The family of a missing Maryland mother is releasing new information about her case as they continue their increasingly urgent efforts to locate her.
Robin Pope, 51, was reportedly last seen at the Stevensville home she shared with her husband Wayne Pope on the night of March 1. He reported her missing hours later, telling police that she had disappeared, along with her dog.
The couple had been separated for about three weeks and Robin had been staying at a friend’s condo during that time, according to her daughters. They were married for 22 years before that.
“Your absence has brought a cold empty feeling to each of us that know you best and it has become difficult for us to move on with our lives. We really need to know where you are,” a friend said in a statement issued last week on behalf of Robin Pope’s two daughters.
One of Pope’s daughters, Priscilla Hastings, revealed new details Tuesday about the night her mother went missing.
Hastings told HLN her mother had a job interview at a GNC on March 1 around 8 p.m. The last known communication from her cell phone was a 13-minute call to Wayne Pope at 10:30 p.m. that ended when she reached Oregon Road, which connects to the street where the couple had lived and Wayne still resided.
According to Hastings, Wayne Pope allegedly said he fell asleep after that conversation. When he woke up, he allegedly found Robin sleeping in her car outside the house. He knocked on her window and told her he would leave so she could go inside and get her belongings.
According to Robin Pope’s best friend Debbie O’Malley, Wayne came to her house around 1:30 a.m. on March 2 to ask if she had seen Robin. He allegedly told her he had left Robin at his house around 11:00 p.m. because his attorney advised him not to be alone with her, but she and her dog, a Great Dane named Bella, were gone when he returned two hours later.
There was no sign of Robin Pope at the condo where she had been staying and she was not answering her phone, according to O’Malley. At that point, she advised Wayne Pope to go home, call the police and report Robin missing.
Wayne Pope called police and responding officers found Robin’s phone, purse and ID in her car at their house. Medication that Robin had been taking following successful treatment for breast cancer was also left in the vehicle, Hastings said.
Later on Saturday, the dog’s body was found in the water near the home by local residents walking along the shore, according to police.
“I’m suspicious,” O’Malley told HLN. “Robin doesn’t just up and disappear.”
Authorities have organized extensive searches with the assistance of dive teams, cadaver dogs and helicopters. Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley told HLN the most recent police searches were conducted Sunday on area waterways with the assistance of a crew from Charles County, but nothing significant was found.
After nearly three weeks, Shipley said police still have no information about the cause of Pope’s disappearance, but their search efforts will likely continue.
“We’re at a loss as to where she is or what happened to her,” Shipley said.
Rachael Pope, Robin’s other daughter, told WMAR that searchers had found a shirt believed to be Robin’s near the spot where Bella’s body was discovered.
Shipley said homicide detectives are not aware of any items being found that have been positively linked by forensic testing to Robin Pope, but Hastings confirmed it was her mother’s shirt.
“I’m sure it’s my mom’s and my mom’s best friend is sure,” Hastings told HLN. She provided several photos of Robin Pope wearing what she said is the same shirt that was found. Hastings said investigators were still conducting tests on the shirt for reasons she could not discuss.
Wayne Pope’s attorney Dana Paul told HLN he felt some doubt has been unfairly cast upon his client in part because of erroneous initial reports from authorities that Bella died from traumatic injuries. The state police have since corrected that information and said that the dog did not suffer any external injuries.
Paul claimed the dog died of hypothermia from being in the water where she was found. Shipley said a veterinarian concluded that exposure to the elements may have been responsible, but a definite cause of death has not been determined.
Paul declined to comment on any other aspects of the case at this time.
Hastings said the family hopes to announce a reward in the coming days, but they are still working out the details of that with the help of Wayne Pope’s father and stepmother.
“It’s really a family effort to put the reward together,” she said.
Meanwhile, friends and volunteers have been searching everyday.
“We don’t want Robin to just be forgotten,” O’Malley said. “We want to find her.”
A post on the “Help Find Robin Pope” Facebook page Tuesday encouraged volunteers to continue their search efforts: “We are asking everyone in Kent Island, Chester, Grasonville, Queenstown, Centreville, Easton, St. Michaels etc.. Also everyone on the Western Shore- Annapolis, Edgewater, Cape St. Claire, Arnold, Deale, Shadyside ** please go for a walk check your local areas, woods, beaches, shoreline etc. FOR ROBIN!”
Anyone with information regarding Robin Pope’s disappearance is asked to call Maryland State Police at 410-758-1101.

Woman's body found along Kent Island shoreline could be Robin Pope, police say
A woman’s body was found Saturday afternoon along the Kent Island shoreline by someone who was fishing on a pier.
Maryland State Police are investigating to see if it could be Robin Pope, the Queen Anne’s County woman who was reported missing from her estranged husband’s home three weeks ago.
Pope’s husband and daughters have been notified of the recovery and the lack of a positive identification.
Pope, 51, of Stevensville, Md. was reported missing by her husband early on the morning of March 2, 2013. Multiple land and water searches and further investigation have failed to locate Pope.
The adult female body found Saturday has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. Dental records and other information related to Robin Pope will be examined to assist pathologists in identification efforts.
Pope, a dental hygienist and a mother of two, had gone to her estranged husband's house late one night to pick up some belongings. While she was there, her husband, Wayne, left the house. When he returned the next morning, he said Robin's car, purse, keys and other items were still at the house, but she and his dog were gone.
"There is no clear information as to what occurred, where she is and what happened," Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said at that time.
Later in the weekend, Queen Anne's County Sheriff's officials found the dog, a Great Dane, dead in the water near a nearby pier. An examination of the dog, however, discovered that it had large tumors in its upper torso and did not die of external injuries or drowning, as previously thought.

Police recover woman's body on Kent Island, may be Robin Pope

By TINA REED Staff Writer
A woman’s body was found on the Kent Island shoreline on Saturday, police said, not far from where Stevensville resident Robin Pope was reported missing three weeks ago.
In a release Saturday, Maryland State Police said they “will await the results of forensic examinations to determine if the body of a woman found along the Kent Island shoreline this afternoon” is in fact Pope, who was reported missing on March 2.
State police say that at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Queen Anne’s County’s 911 dispatcher received a call for help from a fisherman who said he’d spotted a body in the water near a pier.
He was calling from a house on the 500 block of Bay Drive in Stevensville, less than a half-mile from the last place Pope was seen, her former house on Beach Road.
Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and contacted state police investigators who were looking into the disappearance of Pope, 51.
State police investigators notified both Pope’s husband Wayne, who originally reported her missing, and her daughters about the finding of the body and the lack of a positive identification.
State police crime scene technicians “conducted evidence collection procedures” on the body, police said.
The body was sent to the chief medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy and to verify the identity, based on dental and other records.
Since Pope disappeared emergency crews have looked for her on land and water, and hundreds of people joined in the search on Kent Island.
Missing posters were hung in businesses on both sides of the Bay Bridge.
Wayne and Robin lived at the home on Beach Road until the couple separated in December. Since then, she had stayed with a female friend on Kent Island, state police said.
Wayne told investigators Robin returned to the home late on the night of March 1 to pick up some belongings.
Wayne said he left when Robin arrived, and that he called police after returning and finding her black 2011 Infiniti still in the home’s driveway, with Robin nowhere to be found.
Her keys, purse and cash were still inside her car.
After the report that Pope was missing, the body of her 11-year-old Great Dane was found along the shoreline near a neighbor’s pier. A veterinarian said the dog neither drowned nor suffered any external trauma, state police said.

SO SAD!! Can't imagine how her daughters are getting through this! And, WHY could a fisherman find her and not all the people that looked for her??

STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) - A man fishing on a pier in Kent Island finds a body in the water near the shore.
Now Maryland State Police are trying to determine if it's Robin Pope.
The body has not been identified, but it was seen in the area of 51-year-old robin Pope, who is the woman who suddenly went missing. Pope's dental records are now being used to see if they match that of the woman found.
An intense investigation is underway at this hour in Queen Anne's County to determine the identity of a body found floating along the Kent Island shoreline, just a mile and a half from the home of Robin Pope, who is still missing.
"There was no immediate positive identification of the body. Investigators believe the body is that of an adult female," said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police.
The lifeless body, spotted by a man fishing off the pier who immediately called 911.
"Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office responded, they contacted state police homicide investigators because of the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Robin Pope," Shipley said.
51-year-old Robin Pope was reported missing March 2. Queen Anne's County sheriff deputies conducted multiple land and water searches for her that turned up nothing. This is what I do not get. Unless she washed up on shore??
Her daughters spoke to WJZ two weeks ago.
"It's just just bizarre because she contacts us so much. It's unusual, it's not like her," said Rachael Pope.
Police have notified Pope's family about the body found, but say it could be awhile before there is a positive ID.
"There was some decomposition on the body, but again we will await a determination from the medical examiner as far as length of time the body was in the water and deceased," said Shipley.
Pope's dental records are being used to determine if they match those of the unidentified woman.
Pope was reported missing by her estranged husband, who was the last to see her alive. I hope they w/find evidence of foul play and make the "estranged hubby who was the last one to see her take a poly!
Crime scene technicians are collecting evidence in hopes of figuring out how the woman ended up in the water and most importantly, who she is.
Again, the body found has not been identified as Robin Pope. Investigators have no determined how or why Pope went missing.

Robin Pope’s Body Identified
An autopsy conducted today confirmed the body found in the water along the Kent Island shoreline yesterday afternoon is that of the Queen Anne’s County woman who has been missing for three weeks.
Doctors at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore positively identified the deceased as Robin L. Pope, 51, of Stevensville, Md. The identification was made through dental records.
The cause and manner of death were not identified today. That investigation will be continued by forensic pathologists at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Robin Pope was last seen late on the night of March 1, 2013, in the 100-block of Beach Road, Stevensville, where she had lived with her husband until last December when the couple separated. Her husband reported her missing to the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office early on the morning of March 2nd. He said his wife had come by the house late the night before to pick up some belongings and he had left when she arrived. When he returned home her car was still in the driveway, but she was not at the home.
An investigation has been ongoing since Pope was reported missing. The investigation included multiple searches on and under the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, as well as several land searches. Anyone with information about Robin Pope is urged to contact the Maryland State Police at the Centreville Barrack at 410-758-1101

Robin Pope found dead; investigation into death continues
All hopes that a Maryland woman would be found alive and well were dashed following the positive identification of her body this weekend. Now, investigators are working to determine what led to her death.
The yellow ribbons lining the roadway to Robin Pope's Kent Island home stood as a symbol of hope.
Three weeks ago, she was reported missing from her estranged husband's home. He says she went to their home to pick up a few belongings. When he came home, her car was in the driveway, but she was nowhere to be found.
A fisherman spotted her body just barely a mile from her home Saturday.
Maryland State Police Spokesman Greg Shipley said, "The primary question for investigators is was there a crime, and if so, who's responsible."
Police sources say there were no visible signs of intentional trauma. Adding to the mystery is the death of Pope's beloved dog, Bella, who was also found dead along the beach at the same time Pope went missing.
"He just looked like a wet dog...," said neighbor Michele Pierce. "You couldn't tell he was...ya know...um, dead."
Pierce watched with heartache as officials pulled the Great Dane from the icy waters. She knew the dog had health issues, but she says neither Bella or Pope spent much time playing on the pier.

Cause Of Death Of Missing Kent Island Woman Remains A Mystery
STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—A missing Kent Island woman found dead. Now police are trying to figure out how Robin Pope died.
Adam May reports the mystery deepens in Kent Island.
Now that 51-year-old Robin Pope’s body has been discovered, police are trying to determine if a crime occurred or if this was an accident.
Waves roll up to roses placed on the beach near the Stevensville home of Pope– a mother of two whose body was found Saturday floating in the water about a mile and half away.
“The primary question for investigators: was there a crime and if so whose responsible for the crime?” said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police.
Pope was reported missing by her soon-to-be ex husband Wayne three weeks ago.
He said Pope was picking up belongings when he came home she gone, her vehicle in the driveway,
Adding to the mystery: Pope’s Great Dane was later found dead along the beach with no signs of trauma.
“It’s really frightening. It’s so local. It’s just very disheartening,” said Jane McGrath, neighbor.
Neighbors fear Pope was murdered, her body thrown in the water.
But police are also examining the possibility that she feel in the water and drowned.
“There was some decomposition so they will be conducting a variety of tests to determine the cause and manner of death,” Shipley said.
Without those answers, neighbors who organized searches and vigils are on edge.
“Keeping our home and cars locked at night,” said Bill Riggs
The bizarre circumstances surrounding the disappearance are now getting the attention of national media.
Determining the cause of death could take days.

Memorial Service Held For Robin Pope; Investigation Into Her Death Continues
CHESTER, Md. (WJZ) – Robin Pope was laid to rest Tuesday but not the mystery that still surrounds her death.
Alex DeMetrick reports the Eastern Shore family and friends that searched for weeks to find her gathered again to say goodbye.
Nearly a month to the day when she first disappeared, 51-year-old Robin Pope’s family and friends came together at a Kent Island church to mourn and remember—a gathering no one wanted for a woman her daughter earlier described as a
“Very fiercely independent, amazing human being and very active in the community. She’s someone everyone knows and loves,” said Priscilla Hastings.
And over the course of the first three weeks of March, hundreds aided in the search for Robin Pope, a mother who was in frequent contact with her daughters.
“It’s unusual. It’s not like her. It’s just really hard,” said Rachael Pope.
She was last seen by her estranged husband when she stopped by their former home to pick up belongings. When Wayne Pope returned the next morning, her car was there. Shortly after, her Great Dane Bella was found dead along the shore. The cause of the dog’s death could not be determined.
Three weeks later, Pope’s body was spotted in the water by a neighbor.
While friends and family draw together in loss and remembrance, police still work to answer questions.
“We are still awaiting information from the office of the chief medical examiner. We have some of the top forensic pathologists in the country working on the case, examining evidence obtained by the autopsy. What happened that night to Robin Pope remains a mystery,” said Greg Shipley.
While there has been conjecture ranging from accidental drowning to foul play, state police say they will not commit to any scenario until Robin Pope’s cause of death is determined.

Source: No obvious signs of trauma found during Pope autopsy
Stevensville, Md. - A source tells ABC2 an autopsy done on Robin Pope's body turned up no obvious signs of trauma that would explain how the Stevensville woman died.
Pope's autopsy wrapped up late last week. As ABC2 first report, it was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Maryland, with help from well-known forensic anthropologist Dr. William Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a defense expert in the trial of Casey Anthony.
After examination, Pope’s body was released to her family so they could cremate her remains and carry-out a service and interment, which took place Tuesday morning in Queen Anne’s County.
Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley wouldn’t comment about what the medical examiner found during the autopsy, which he said is on-going. But Shipley did say, “Investigators are still searching for the cause and manner of death”.
Shipley says there has been no final ruling from the medical examiner’s office, but he indicated samples were taken and more tests are being conducted. Those tests include toxicology, which could indicate whether anything out of the ordinary was in Pope’s system on the night she died.
There’s been no time frame provided for how long those additional tests will take or when a final ruling will be issued.

PIKESVILLE -- Maryland State Police investigators are still awaiting the autopsy results on a Kent Island woman who was found dead after going missing for three weeks in March.
Police recovered the body of Robin Pope, 51, after it was discovered by a fisherman along the Kent Island shoreline on March 23. Pope's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, which made the identification through dental records.
State police spokesman Greg Shipley said Wednesday that the medical examiner's office had still not ruled on the cause and manner of Pope's death. Investigators are still awaiting the results of further testing on the body, Shipley said.
Pope, along with the family's 11-year-old Great Dane, was reported missing by her husband Wayne Pope on March 2.
He said his wife came by the house they had shared before the couple separated in December in the 100 block of Beach Road in Stevensville the night before to pick up some belongings. Wayne Pope told police he left when she arrived.
When he returned home, her car was still in the driveway, but she was not at the home.
The dog was later found dead in the water near their home. A veterinarian performed an autopsy on the dog and concluded it had not drowned nor died as a result of external trauma.
The investigation into Pope’s disappearance included search parties on Kent Island and multiple searches of the Chesapeake Bay.

Looking For Closure: Family Members Still Puzzled By Mystery Surrounding Death Of Robin Pope
STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — A mystery in Maryland remains unsolved. The death of a woman whose body was discovered in the Chesapeake Bay still haunts her family and puzzles police.
Mike Hellgren retraces Robin Pope’s last steps before she vanished one cold night on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
The mystery unfolded on a dead-end road in Stevensville, at a home just inches from the churning water of the Chesapeake Bay.
On a cold night in March, loving mother and businesswoman Robin Pope pulled up in her black Infiniti, left her keys, credit cards, even the medicine she took after surviving breast cancer, and disappeared.
An exhaustive search came to a gut-wrenching end one month later. A neighbor found Robin’s badly decomposed body floating less than a mile from where she vanished. Her daughter, Rachael, wants answers.
“Just the idea of it becoming a cold case is my worst fear,” said Rachael Pope.
WJZ’s investigation traced Robin Pope’s final moments.
The last known person to see her alive was her husband, Wayne. The two were estranged and Robin was staying with a friend, but decided to stop by the house they shared for years to get some belongings.
Police say Wayne told them he left her there alone. When he came back about three hours later, her car and personal effects were there, but there was no sign of Robin.
Hellgren: “Could someone have come up there? Was she an easy target?”
Rachael: “I don’t know who would be after my mom. We didn’t know of any enemies that she had. She was loved by everyone.”
Robin’s daughter says her mom hated the water. She can’t imagine why she’d be outside.
“It’s very mysterious, just the reason she was there that late at night. Everything just doesn’t make sense,” she said.
Including whether this was an accident, or foul play.
And there’s another twist: Robin’s beloved dog, a massive 11-year-old Great Dane named Bella, also went missing that same night and also ended up in the same watery grave.
“She had bruises on her feet,” said Dr. Marian Shaw, veterinarian.
WJZ tracked down Dr. Marian Shaw, who knew Bella well. She was her vet, and performed her autopsy.
“I think the dog was probably trying to get out of the water,” Shaw said.
She thinks the dog died of hypothermia, but there are persistent questions of why Bella was in the water in the first place.
“Great Danes don’t usually like to swim. They would avoid water,” she said.
Despite a comprehensive autopsy, WJZ has learned the medical examiner has been unable to say how or why Robin Pope died, fueling speculation over what happened.
“There is no immediate sign that has given them any indication there may be a killer, but certainly, the circumstances are suspicious enough that we have to consider that as a possibility,” said Greg Shipley, Maryland State Police.
That possibility was on the minds of family and friends. They want one question answered: What happened to Robin Pope?
“I just want closure. That way I can move on with my life,” said Rachael Pope. “I definitely don’t think it was an accident.”
“It’s a mystery. It’s definitely a mystery, but one we hope to find the answers to,” said Shipley.
Police have never identified a suspect, and the medical examiner has not been able to determine what killed Robin Pope, but sources tell WJZ they found no obvious signs of trauma.

This doesn't state whether the toxicology tests have come back yet, if those are negative then I wonder if LE will ever solve this? I'm still wondering about the estranged husband. MOO.
