Body found has been identified as 10-Yr-Old Girl, Kami Ring, Missing from Port Deposit, DE/Uncle has been taken into custody
A ten-year-old girl is missing from Port Deposit, according to the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services.
The girl named Cami was last seen Sunday wearing a white t-shirt with multicolored hearts, black capri pants and white sneakers, reported Maryland State Police, whose officers are handling the investigation.
"She was last seen last night," Trooper Tim Graham of Maryland State Police told Perryville Patch Monday afternoon.
According to Graham, the child was staying with a friend on Waibel Road in Port Deposit Sunday night when she went missing.
Cami is 4'6" tall and weighs 60 to 70 pounds. She has long hair.
Police sent out phone alerts to community members near where Cami was reported missing, Graham said, and K-9 officers were assisting with the search as well.
"It's still in progress," Graham said of the search Monday afternoon, which he noted included "multiple personnel."
Anyone with information may contact Maryland State Police at 410-398-8101.

Police: Body found during search for missing Charlestown girl
Posted: Monday, June 10, 2013 9:54 pm | Updated: 11:07 pm, Mon Jun 10, 2013.
Officials at the Maryland State Police North East barrack confirmed Monday evening that a body was found by searchers, but did not say whether or not the body was that of a missing 10-year-old Charlestown girl.
Troopers and K-9 search teams were seen scouring the area around a Port Deposit-area home throughout Monday afternoon and evening. Maryland State Police set up a command center with the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services at nearby Pleasant View Baptist Church to run the investigation.
Troopers notified the public and the media that Cami Ring was reported missing by a couple the girl considered her grandparents about 11 a.m. Monday after last seeing her before they went to sleep about 10 p.m. Sunday. Ring had been staying at a home in the 100 block of Waibel Road near Port Deposit, according to Maryland State Police Sgt. Bill McFarland, who is assigned to the North East Barrack.
“They went to check on her and she was missing,” McFarland said.
Investigators have interviewed Cami's biological mother, who lives in Cecil County, he said. As for the girl's biological father, McFarland added, he does not live in this area.
"He is out of the picture," McFarland said.
Investigators determined that no vehicle was involved in Cami's disappearance, according to McFarland, who, because it is a fresh case, declined to comment further.
She is described as being 4-foot, 5-inches tall with brown hair, weighing approximately 65 pounds.
Cami was last seen wearing as white T-shirt with multi-colored hearts, black capri pants and white tennis shoes.
Despite online reports of a related case, police officials confirmed about 4:30 p.m. on Monday that a second girl, who was reported missing in less than a day from the Port Deposit area, was found, safe and sound, but that the incident was not related to the Ring case.
That case involved a 12-year-old girl who had run away from her Washington Schoolhouse Road home, prompting family members to report her missing to police about 3 p.m. Monday, according to McFarland.
That girl was found, unharmed, within 90 minutes after police took the missing person information, he noted.

During the investigation, police discovered Kami had been staying at the home on Waibel Road at the time of her disappearance with her grandparents and one other relative.
Police searched the area and at about 6:30 p.m., the body of the girl was discovered about 60 yards in front of the Waibel Road residence in a field near a shed. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
Kami's cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
At this time police have several leads and persons of interest, however, anyone with any information is asked to call 410-996-7800.
I saw its been confermed the spelling of her name Kami instead of Cami.

Slys Hunny thank you so much for keeping us up to date on Kami.
Another story about a innocent child feeling safe in an unsafe environment.
It's sickening that little children have become targets in these unspeakable crimes and murders.
The guilty need to be punished in ways that send a message to others that it's NOT OK to use children to gain sick self satisfaction.

Missing 10-year-old girl found dead in field near grandparents' Md. home
Kami Ring, a beautiful little 10-year-old girl who was reported missing from her grandparents’ Port Deposit, Md. home on June 10 around 11 a.m., was found dead later that same evening in a field not far away from her grandparents’ Cecil Co. home. Kami was last seen on the evening of June 9 when her grandparent’s assumed she had gone off to bed.
Kami’s grandparents and one other individual, related to the grandmother, live in the home.
According to the Maryland State Police (MSP,) Md. State Troopers, K-9 Units from the Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police, along with Chesapeake Search and Rescue conducted a thorough search of the area.
At 6:20 p.m. yesterday evening, the body of the deceased victim was discovered about sixty yards in front of the Waibel Road residence in a field near a shed.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The exact cause of Kami’s death has not yet been determined. Kami’s remains are now in the care of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division were on the scene last night gathering evidence.
Police said the window screen of the bedroom where she was staying had been pushed out. ~ WBAL TV
Allvoices shared that Kami's grandparents are adoptive grandparents. Kami’s biological mom has been interviewed; and her biological father "is not in the picture."
The MSP went on to report that their investigators have several leads in the case, and persons of interest.
One person of interest is currently in police custody; but police are not saying whether or not that person has any connection to Kami's family.
If you have any information to share regarding Kami’s death, calls are being taken by the Maryland State Police North East Barrack at 410-996-7800. Calls will remain confidential.
Kami Ring was from Charlestown, Md.
There was some early confusion in media reports regarding the spelling of Kami’s first name, which some outlets had listed as Cami. According to the Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons (MCMUP,) “the spelling of her first name should be Kami, not Cami.”

Re: Body found has been identified as 10-Yr-Old Girl, Kami Ring, Missing from Port Deposit, DE/Uncle has been taken into custody
“Elena Russo, MSP spokeswoman, confirmed that the window in the room Ring was believed to be staying in was found open by investigators.
“The window itself was open about 7 inches and the screen was popped out,” she said.
The investigation also involved police interviews with family members, including Kami's biological mother, who, according to relatives, lives in Cecil County and is married to the father of Kami's two younger siblings, Joe and Lizzy. Kami's biological father lives in California, those relatives said.
“Oh, God, please don't let it be her,” said Kami's aunt, Kellie Thomas, dropping to her knees in the parking lot of the North East barrack, where she and other relatives, including Kami's step-father, had come seeking more information.
Thomas, who lives near Port Deposit, said between tears, “She's such a good girl.”
Kami's mother had been there earlier, Thomas said, but had gone to the Waibel Road scene. The man identified as Kami's stepfather was also present at the barrack for a meeting with officials.
[b]According to family members, the situation in which Kami considered the couple on Waibel Road to be her grandparents hinged on a mistaken belief that their son was her father. That man lives in Oregon, family members said.[b]

WBAL Radio is reporting that the person in custody is Ring's uncle.
Nobody has been charged, according toCecilDaily.com.
Police said that someone who lived in the Waibel Road home where Ring was staying in Port Deposit called 911 to report her missing around 11 a.m. Monday. Ring, who lived in Charlestown, was staying with her grandparents and another person related to her grandmother when she disappeared Sunday night, police said.
According to WBAL, a window screen had been removed in the room where she was staying.
Her body was discovered next to a shed in a field 60 yards from the house around 6 p.m. Monday, when she was pronounced deceased, police said. It has been taken to the medical examiner for autopsy, according to officials.
On Tuesday, police blocked off Waibel Road at Dr. Jack Road and Rock Run Road to clear the overgrown area near where the body was found, The Baltimore Sun reported, as investigators continued to search the crime scene.
Police at the North East Barrack are taking calls from anyone with information at 410-996-7800

I really wish they would release the guys name!!! If the "grandparents" are the parents of a guy they thought was her father that turned out not to be then is the uncle that guys brother or an uncle in another way? This just gets more compelling as it goes.

Madden's court record shows he was convicted of theft back in 2009...sentenced to 5 years. MSP says released in fall 2012
MSP says Richard Madden, Jr was taken in after substances found during search of home. But he also had retake warrant bc of parole.
@chrisfromabc2 Thanks! Going through LIST of his former attorneys now to see who represents him
Cecil County Detention Center confirms Richard Madden, Jr...who was charged with pot possession...is still in custody.
MSP tell me autopsy results and forensics from evidence collected in Kami Ring's case have not yet been returned.
Madden, 29 years old, lives at 176 Waibel Road...where Kami Ring had been staying with her "grandparents"
Court records show MSP is the agency behind the charges for Richard Madden, Jr
Interesting: man who lives in Waibel Rd house where 10yo Kami Ring was staying before her death, charged with mariujuana possession Tuesday

Investigators have filed murder and rape charges against a Port Deposit-area man in the slaying of 10-year-old Kami Ring, whose body was found in a field near the suspect's residence on Monday after she had disappeared from there several hours earlier.
Richard Eugene Madden, Jr., 28, of the 100 block of Waibel Road, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree rape and first-degree assault, according to Cecil County District Court records.
Investigators said biological evidence linked Madden to the murder of Kami and autopsy results revealed the cause of death as blunt force trauma and asphyxia. A motive for the murder remains unclear at this time, they added.
Maryland State Police investigators filed the murder case against Madden on Thursday night, serving him with charging papers at the Cecil County Detention Center, where he had been held in lieu of a $10,000 bond since Monday on minor drug charges relating to a search conducted by homicide detectives at his residence earlier this week.
In the wake of the murder and rape charges filed against him, Madden remained in the Cecil County Detention Center late Thursday night without bond after troopers escorted from the county jail to a district court commissioner for processing.

This is horrible. This is her bio Uncle? And he lived w/ at the house of the step grandparents. I am so sad to hear this. That guy's record is a mile long, too damn bad he wasn't in prison as a habitual offender!

Madden, whom police officials have identified as Kami's presumed uncle, qualifying that they have no biological connection, lives at the Waibel Road residence with two people whom Kami had considered to be her grandparents.
Kami was staying at that Waibel Road residence when she vanished sometime between 10 p.m. Sunday, when she was last seen going to bed in that house, and 11 a.m. Monday, when the people she considered to be her grandparents called 9-1-1 after realizing she was no longer at the residence.
Searchers found Kami's body about 60 yards away from that house Monday night, about eight hours after the girl had been reported missing. Kami lived in Charlestown with her mother, stepfather and two younger half-siblings.
Madden's last post on his public Facebook page, which features a picture that matched his mugshot, reads “Right now, I am going out of my (expletive) head...My niece, Kami want (sic) missing some time in the night or morning...So pleas (sic) if I (sic) have seen or heard anything please let me know ASAP.”
Kami, whose body was found near a shed in an overgrown field, was pronounced dead at the scene. Crime scene analysts gathered evidence from the field that aided in the homicide unit's investigation and their efforts, in turn, ultimately played a role in detectives filing murder and rape charges against Madden.
On Thursday night, Cecil County State's Attorney Ellis Rollins III declined to discuss the murder case against Madden, explaining, “I cannot comment. We want to make sure that he gets a fair trial.”
Rollins did acknowledge that homicide detectives consulted with him periodically throughout the tedious investigation, which involved closing down Waibel Road for more than a day as investigators combed that overgrown field for evidence.
“I will say this: Those guys are very good,” Rollins said, referring to the homicide detectives and the numerous other troopers and officers involved in the case. “They are very thorough.”
Madden already had been in jail in the minor drug case when investigators filed the murder and rape charges against him on Thursday.
Regarding that lesser case, court records indicate that those drug charges against Madden are connected to a police search of his home in the 100 block of Waibel Road in Port Deposit on Monday and that it was conducted as part of “a homicide investigation.”
During a search of Madden's bedroom in that residence, investigators confiscated a “multicolored glass smoking device” containing suspect burnt marijuana residue, as well as a “handmade, silver aluminum smoking device” containing suspect burnt cocaine residue, court records show.
“Richard Madden, Jr., stated to troopers the two smoking devices were his and that he would take that charge,” according to court records, which also indicate, “Richard Madden, Jr., is currently on parole and stated he would fail a urine test for drugs.”
Madden is charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia relating to cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia related to marijuana, court records show.
During his bond review hearing on Wednesday in that minor case, Madden told the judge that he had been released from incarceration on Oct. 19, about eight months ago, after serving an unspecified sentence for a theft conviction, prosecutors said.
Madden also told the judge that he either currently worked at Denny's restaurant in Perryville or that the restaurant had been his last employer, prosecutors added.
Court records indicate that Madden has had numerous brushes with the law, dating back as far as 2004, including receiving a 60-day sentence in October 2009 on a Cecil County theft conviction relating to a criminal case in which the most serious charge against him had been robbery.
In addition, court records show that prosecutors dropped two counts of contributing to the condition of a child in October 2004 and then, in June 2005, they dismissed a second-degree assault charge against him.
Kami Ring had just completed the fourth-grade at Charlestown Elementary School last week. Grief counselors were at that school on Tuesday and Wednesday, to help Kami's surviving schoolmates and their parents cope with the news of her death.
She lived in Charlestown with her mother, her stepfather; her younger half-brother, Joe, a third-grader at Charlestown Elementary School; and her half-sister, Lizzy, a second-grader there.
Friends and family described her as a bubbly girl who loved to sing, especially Taylor Swift songs.
“She likes running. She was in the choir. She played the violin. She's funny and tells jokes. She made the Honor Roll and she had perfect attendance,” rattled off 10-year-old Dakota Strong, who had been in Kami's class for the past three grades and had formed a solid friendship with her.
The situation in which Kami considered the couple on Waibel Road to be her grandparents hinged on a mistaken belief that their son was her father, family members explained. That man lives in Oregon, while Kami's biological father lives in California, according to those family members.
Earlier this week, MSP officials reported that the window in the room Ring was believed to have been sleeping inside the Waibel Road residence was found open by investigators.
“The window itself was open about 7 inches and the screen was popped out,” reported Elena Russo, an MSP spokeswoman.
