ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A logging crew located a missing family early Tuesday morning, and medics who responded to the scene out of concern for an insulin-dependent child found the entire family in good health.
The sheriff's office in Douglas County asked Monday for the public's help in locating Daniel and Melissa Magness and their 4-year-old son Jared Lee Magness.
The Magness family was last scene early Sunday morning leaving their home in the Green District south of Roseburg.
A crew from Independent Thinning Co. found the family on Burnt Mountain Access Road, off Coos Bay Wagon Road, in the mountains between the coast and the Willamette Valley around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The family said their 1994 Chevy pickup got stuck near the top of Burnt Mountain on Sunday. They had been walking since then.
Medics responded to the area but found the family in good health.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office suggests travelers share their plans before driving, hiking, hunting or fishing in remote areas of Douglas County and Oregon.
It is important that you tell someone where you are going, what time you plan on being back and at what time they should call for help, the sheriff's office said.
