More Casey Anthony documents released

More documents related to the state's case against Casey Anthony have been released today.

Photos include Casey Anthony's 'Bella Vita' tattoo, the shovel she borrowed from her neighbor and duct tape found on the body of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony.

The Orlando Sentinel is in the process of obtaining the documents right now.

Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony, who went missing last summer.

The toddler's remains were found in December a short walk from where she lived with her mother and grandparents in east Orange County.

Casey Anthony waited 31 days to report her daughter missing and blamed her disappearance on a nanny, who investigators don't think exists.

The documents made made public today have already been released to the defense as part of the discovery process.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators released photos Friday of Casey Anthony’s tattoo (see tattoo) and the deteriorated duct tape (see tape) that was found on Caylee’s remains.

Also among the evidence released on Friday are dozens of photos of Casey and her friends, many of which had previously been made public.

If I was a young girl getting a tatoo I would expect something nicer than that one. Kind of messy.

I don't think so. At first I said..oh my but looking at it more closely I think it is the fibers that make up the duct tape.

I knew it was stuck to her hair. I remember a debate way back when everyone discussed the fact the skull had light colored hair. Then the discussion went to what happens to hair after death. Anyone else remember that?

ORLANDO, Fla. -- New documents and photos released on Friday in the case against Casey Anthony provided a first look at duct tape found on her daughter's skull.

Prosecutors have said the duct tape is a critical piece of evidence in the case against Anthony.

Authorities said the tape was taken directly from the skull of Caylee Anthony. The photo clearly showed the oval marking of the Henkel brand. Investigators said the same marking appeared on a gas can taken from inside the Anthony home.

Prosecutors said the tape hasn't been sold anywhere since 2007. Defense attorneys for Anthony pointed out that fibers from tape on the gas can and crime scene don't match.

Also on Friday, photos were released of Anthony in jail that showed the large Bella Vita tattoo she got on her shoulder. The tattoo was placed about two weeks before Anthony revealed to her parents that Caylee was missing.

Lab reports from the FBI indicated that no fingerprints were found on the three pieces of duct tape removed from Caylee's mouth. Also, many items of clothing, pull-up diapers and garbage bags found at the crime scene could not be matched with items taken from the Anthony home.

The next hearing in the case is slated on Oct. 16, when Judge Stan Strickland will hear arguments on a defense motion to drop the murder charges against Anthony.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Caylee.

Ugh... completely beside the point, but casey is SO gross! That looks like a mean case of BACNE (back acne) to me. Bet she wishes the jail had Nutrogena acne body wash on the commissary order form.

The pictures of the duct tape were horrific to look at... Tears instantly came to my eyes.

I read the documents and I don't see any reference to the above quote yet. No finger prints on the duct tape is bad news.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- More than 1,400 pages of documents, including new photographs showing a tattoo, were released Friday morning in the Casey Anthony murder case.

Anthony, 23, remains jailed on a first-degree murder charge in the death of her daughter, Caylee, whose remains were discovered in December. Caylee was 2 years old when she was reported missing in July 2008.

A picture of a tattoo on Casey Anthony's upper left back, which was taken under court order by Detective Yuri Melich at the Orange County Jail in August, was among the released photos.

Tattoo artist Danny Colaomarino told investigators he gave Anthony the tattoo, which says "La Vita Bella," meaning the beautiful life, in early July 2008, two weeks after Caylee disappeared.

Although the tattoo does not prove anything, it verifies that Anthony visited the tattoo shop.

Other never-before-seen photos released on Friday included pictures of duct tape that was found over Caylee's skull and the shovel investigators said Casey Anthony borrowed from a neighbor two days before Caylee was last seen alive. Hair and other fibers appear to be attached to the duct tape. The shovel was examined by the FBI for signs that it may have been used to bury Caylee's body, but nothing of interest was pulled from it, documents show.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty, claiming that she left Caylee with a baby sitter named Zenaida Gonzalez and the two were gone when she returned to pick up her daughter.

Investigators have said that they do not believe Anthony's story.

The duct tape photos help to explain why the FBI report said that the duct tape over Caylee's mouth looks different under the microscope than the duct tape on the Anthonys' gas can and you don't need a microscope to see why; the tape over Caylee's mouth in the woods for months does look different than the tape in the Anthonys' garage, but in other very important ways they're the same.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- It's a side of Casey Anthony you haven't seen before. Prosecutors released never before seen pictures of Casey and the duct tape they say she put around her daughter's mouth.

For the first time, the public is getting to see the duct tape that was found over Caylee's mouth (see tape); it's badly deteriorated after facing the elements for months and easy to see, without a microscope, why an FBI report said it looked microscopically different from the tape on the Anthonys' gas can. But it's also easy to see how it's the same in some very important ways.

The duct tape found over Caylee Anthony's mouth was so badly deteriorated the adhesive on the back side was gone and most of the fibers also were gone. But the deterioration made way for a very important discovery, the Henkel brand logo, and specifications of the Anthonys' rare duct tape are the same as those found on the duct tape on their gas can and the duct tape Eyewitness News discovered on their Caylee posters just days after Casey's arrest.

“It is going to be dramatic and it's going to be damaging to the defense when the jurors look at this,” WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said (watch full interview).

Sheaffer said looking at the tape will bring an emotional reaction from jurors.

“I have witnessed jurors looking at this type of evidence and getting emotional in a courtroom. I've also witnessed people look at what we're looking at and become overwhelmed with emotion,” he said.

Also released Friday are photographs the Orange County Sheriff's Office recently took of Casey in jail and her tattoo (see tattoo). She got the tattoo days after Caylee disappeared, when she claims she was out looking for her daughter. Instead, the tattoo artist asked her where Caylee was and says Casey told him she was with a sitter and was just fine.

The tattoo "Bella Vita" means beautiful life in Italian.

“That is so bizarre and inconsistent with a desperate mother whose child has been taken by a third party,” Sheaffer said.

Eyewitness News found, among the 1,400 pages released, documents showing investigators saw signs of decomposition in one of Caylee's hairs they found in Casey's car back in July and later confirmed through further testing what Eyewitness News was first to report last year, that it was Caylee's hair and it came from her dead body (hair decomposition document).

The documents also revealed Friday there were plenty of people who saw a piece of evidence before it was destroyed. Eyewitness News first reported, last month, FBI fingerprint dusting destroyed adhesive from a heart-shaped sticker found on the duct tape over Caylee's mouth (sticker residue document). The evidence may have been destroyed, but documents show several FBI agents saw it before it was dusted.


DOCUMENTS: 3 PIECES OF TAPE ON CAYLEE

One of the documents released Friday shows that investigators found three pieces of duct tape attached to Caylee Anthony's hair (see document). Each was about six to eight inches long.

Two of the three pieces were still stuck together, one over the other. Each one bore the same brand logo of the rare tape found on the Anthonys' gas can and the tape Eyewitness News found on one of the family's Caylee posters.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer, a former prosecutor, says the discovery of layered pieces of duct tape answers the question for him as to why there was duct tape over Caylee's mouth.

“The person who placed this duct tape and put it in multiple layers did it for one reason and one reason only, to make sure that child could not breathe either through the mouth or the nose,” Sheaffer said (watch full interview).

Sheaffer says a child Caylee’s age would suffer extreme distress when prevented from breathing.

“They would become panicked and not understand what they're feeling, but knowing they can't breathe,” Sheaffer said.

That kind of cruelty would be one of the factors jurors would consider in deciding whether to recommend the death penalty if Casey were to be convicted and Sheaffer says it's a powerful one.

“The cruelty of suffocation, it just reaches on a high scale,” Sheaffer said.


NEXT IN THE CASE AGAINST CASEY

In the case against Casey, she will be in court for a hearing next Friday on a number of issues.

The defense has asked the judge to throw out the murder charge against her and, if not that, to take the death penalty off the table.

Prosecutors say their motions are legally bogus.

Also, Friday it could become clear when Casey will stand trial on check fraud charges.

I hope Caylee was drugged first.

This is what I think. Caylee was probably alive until it was dark and Tony and Casey went to rent those movies at Blockbuster. Casey put Caylee in the trunk with the duct tape to shut her up. Then, casually sauntered into Blockbuster arm in arm w/her beloved Tony while her little daughter is fighting for her life in Casey's trunk probably sitting in Tony's apartment parking lot. IMO, she knew EXACTLY what she was doing to her; thus...the DP on the table.
