More evidence released 3-1 in Anthony case/ Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence released 3-10
Prosecutors have turned over 650 new pages of evidence, including interview transcripts and photos, to Casey Anthony's defense team.
Casey Anthony is accused of killing her daughter Caylee Anthony, who disappeared in June 2008 at age 2.
The newly released information is part of more than 13,000 pages of evidence released to the Anthony defense team since the state's murder case began.
The evidence includes a December 2009 interview with the head of Texas Equusearch Time Miller. Miller claimed that his organization never searched the area where Caylee's remains were found because the area had been under water for some time.
New evidence also includes interviews with former Equusearch volunteers like Joe Jordan. Anthony's defense team said Jordan will testify that Equusearch did search the area and found nothing while Casey Anthony was in jail.
Defense attorney Richard Hornsby said it is clear that investigators are trying to find information to counter the defense team's claims that the remains were put in the woods after Casey was put in jail.
"No matter how many experts you put on there, when you have multiple witnesses, including law enforcement officers, who say we went there and we didn't see anything, that raises some reasonable issues a jury could consider," Hornsby said.
Prosecutors also turned over more photos enhanced by the FBI of Casey's car trunk.

Casey Anthony declared "indigent" by Baez seeks taxpayer payout for her defense!
Defense attorneys for Casey Anthony have filed a motion requesting that the court declare her indigent and have the taxpayers shoulder some of the cost of her defense.
Jose Baez filed the paperwork at 5 p.m. Friday. He is asking Judge Stan Strickland to declare Anthony indigent for costs, meaning she does not have the money to fund her defense.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee.
Anthony has already paid Baez and death penalty expert Andrea Lyon $111,954, but Baez said that is not enough to give Anthony the defense she needs, and taxpayers should make up the difference. Nearly $90,000 of the amount was used for Baez's fees, the remainder covered Lyon's costs. She is working on the case for free.
Baez said Anthony, 23, was willing to pay for her defense until the state put the death penalty back on the table, making her unable to cover the expense.
The motion asks the state to cover the cost of depositions, transcripts, investigators, legal research, expert witness fees, medical or mental examinations, travel expenses and other costs the defense has or will incur.
Legal experts said defending a complex death penalty murder case like Anthony's can easily run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, especially when potential witnesses and experts are dispersed around the country.
Baez estimated the total cost of defending Anthony will amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
If Strickland signs the order, Florida taxpayers will pick up the bill for the defense costs, but not the defense fees.
The state has more than $14 million set aside this year to pay for indigent criminal defense.
The question of how Anthony will be able to pay for her defense has prompted a great deal of speculation about possible movie deals and book rights. It is not known how she paid the more than $100,000 that has already been paid to the defense.
Anthony is being held at the Orange County Jail on no bond.
Caylee was 2-years-old when she was reported missing in July 2008. Her remains were discovered in a wooded area off Suburban Drive, near Anthony's parent's east Orange County home, in December 2008.

Re: More evidence released 3-1 in Anthony case/ Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence released 3-10
How the hell did she pay the $111,000?????
Hell NO, the Florida taxpayers should not have to fund her defense. They need to figure out another way. I hope Strickland shoots this down and fast.
And, guaranteed..Bozo has been waiting in the wings to file this motion. This is not something he just thought of.
And WHY would the DP back on the table make a difference as to if Casey could pay or not? She was indigent when they all took the case, is indigent now and will always be indigent.

Re: More evidence released 3-1 in Anthony case/ Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence released 3-10
I wonder if this has something to do with the Anthonys letting their house go into foreclosure?
Certainly Casey is an adult so the Ants are not responsible for her bills - right? Or maybe they let it go into foreclosure to prove to Baez that they cannot pay either and to help his cause with getting the taxpayers to foot the bill. I doubt that Strickland can shoot this down - she has to be defended one way or the other so if he says he has to quit because he cannot afford to defend her they will have to give the order to have the state pay the costs.

The State would foot the bill for the costs - not Baez
or any other attorneys' fees, is my understanding.

One other interesting thing I read over at wftv.com
questions put to Bill Sheafer - the Ants cannot sit
in court during the trial as they are witnesses! However, I think the trial will be telecast so they will be sitting home fuming!

WOW, Never thought about that aspect. I wonder if the Judge can order them, or prevent them from viewing prior to their own testimony. Have also been reading at HinkyMeter, and there is quite write up re: computer searches and what was recovered from the Anthony computers by LE. Very interesting and easy to understnad.

Oh hell no!!!
What does Baez mean that KC was *willing* to pay for her defense until the state put the DP back on the table? It sounds like they (KC & Baez) are putting conditions on what they will or will not do, why? These people seem to be *allowed* to at least put on airs that they are entitled and this is so wrong!
If she is indigent for real then she should only be entitled what someone else would be - have a PD representing her - am I correct?
Seems like the A's need to back on TV and make some more money to pay the defense off! The taxpayers should NOT be asked to pay for this defense (IMO)!
Sorry but this just makes me so angry and I just had to vent!

Marica I read Hinky Meter every day she is really good at analysis. Cindy absolutely LIED about searching for cholofil when she tried to cover up for Casey who had
searched for cholorform and the HM column very
precisely explains that Cindy lied to try to cover for
Casey. Also it was George who searched for escort sites not Casey. The Ants knew Casey did something to Caylee - maybe at first they just believed she sold her or gave her away, but later they knew Casey killed Caylee and covered for her. I dont think whatever
the judge instructs them to do they will comply unless
there is a marshall staying at their house!

I think Strickland will make sure the Ant's cannot watch the trial coverage. They will probably have to appear at the court house everyday the trial is going and be sequestered somewhere.
As far as Casey and her "scream team", I agree with raine1953. Let her get a Public Pretender *defender* to defend her sorry self. I would love nothing more than to see Linda Kenny Baden walk away, also Henry Lee.

I dont believe with todays technology that they can possibly find a way for anyone not to see the proceedings after court. Between TV, internet,
or someone just using an old fashioned video recorder
if they want to see it they will. Unless of course,
there is no camera! But I believe the Sunshine State
allows cameras. You know, she isnt Al Capone, shes just a little 24 year old that killed her child but between the lies from Casey, hysteria from Cindy and hype from Baez - it kind of gets away from us exactly
how unfortunately ordinary this case is. Think Elizabeth Johnson, Susan Smith, Diane Downs and
the rest of that terrible "company" who have done the same thing.

Re: More evidence released 3-1 in Anthony case/ Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence released 3-10
Artgal, I really believe there will be some type of court order that they must show up at the court house everyday the trial is going and they will be put in a room where their are no televisions so that they will not be able to watch the trial. The only problem w/that is when they go home, the day's trial news will be all over the tv.
I thought about this while I was typing so you have brought up a great point.
This will be quite interesting to see how they keep the Ant's (and many other's) out of the courtroom and away from the tv.

I agree, I think they will sequester them during the trial. It is true, it will not be hard for them to somehow watch, what with tivo, recorders, etc. It will be for them just like a jury, they will be on their honor to follow the instructions of the court. What's that I hear........

Maybe they will have them testify first, I think they will be able to attend court after their tesimony. That will mean their honor, or lack there of, will not be an issue.

Some of the prosecution’s evidence in the case against Casey Anthony will soon be released.
New discovery evidence will be released Wednesday morning. WFTV was told that it will include ten discs worth of DNA charts from the case.
More than 12,000 pages of evidence have already been released in the case.

What is the criteria used by the court to determine if a defendent is indigent? When did she become indigent, after she paid the $100,000, most of it to Bozo?

I keep reading about a network paying Casey, or someone $200,000.00. So if Baez got half, where did the rest of it go? Are they holding that, and knowing it won't cover the rest f the trial, and asking for assistance because she won't have enough to cover the whole cost of the trial?

Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence to be released today!
Casey Anthony is considered to be indigent by the Orange County Clerk of Courts, according to documents filed this afternoon.
This is the first step needed for Casey Anthony to get state financial help to pay for her defense. Her indigent status allows her access to certain costs, such as hiring expert witnesses and investigators.
However, Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Stickland will have to approve these costs.
Casey Anthony, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. On Dec. 11, 2008 — five months after she was reported missing — remains of the two-year-old were found in woods near her family home. Authorities ruled her death a homicide but could not determine her cause of death.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. The trial is scheduled to begin in May 2011.
Casey Anthony filed documents last week, saying two of her attorneys have run up a $112,000 bill for their work. In the motion, Casey Anthony claims she doesn't have enough money to pay for her defense. She has no income, no savings and no assets.
Experts say this is not an uncommon request in complicated death penalty cases.
Nine CDs of evidence in the first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony that were released by the state this morning contained no bombshells.
In fact, the dozens of files included in the nine CDs — all related to DNA test results — are incomprehensible.
There is no context to the charts and graphs that are among the files.
Among the items are DNA tests results and measurements from chromatographs.
A chromatograph is a device that separates mixtures of substances, such as gases, into identifiable components.
The release adds to the thousands of pages of documents already released in the case against Anthony, who is accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, in 2008.
Anthony has entered a plea of not guilty and is being held in the Orange County Jail without bond.

The ruling means under state laws, her attorneys will receive $15,000 of taxpayer money for the case. It also means attorneys can also request as much as $100 an hour extra for "extraordinary efforts."
Should her legal counsel want to bring in forensic experts, the state will pay an average of $150 per hour.
Those costs are for the defense and do not reflect the average capitol murder case costs that taxpayers shuck out, which is more than $1 million to prosecute.

This case was and always will be about money. From the enormous GREED of the attorneys who have attached themselves to it, looking for fame and fortune
up to and including their experts, media and spokespeople and let us not forget all the hangers on such as the Milsteads plus the PI's Kronks ex-wives &
so many others - they will all get a payday and the bill is going to the taxpayer. What should have been a realtively minor and straightforward case tried within
a short period of time has turned into this monster of many arms - ending in a hand held out greedily
wanting money. It disgusts me.

Hal Boedecker -The TV Guy/ No Big Deal
The state’s release of DNA results today in the Casey Anthony case wasn’t that big a deal, TV reporters seemed to agree on noon newscasts. That development undoubtedly was a letdown for anyone following the case closely.
“We’ve already reported on the FBI lab’s take on this DNA evidence, which does not show Casey’s DNA on any of the evidence recovered from the scene where her daughter body’s was dumped and later found in December 2008,” WKMG-Channel 6’s Tony Pipitone said.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. The murder trial is set to start in May 2011.
There was nothing new in the discovery, Pipitone stressed. “Bottom line: This is just one more piece of a puzzle that both sides will try to assemble in a way that benefits their side as they prepare for a trial,” Pipitone said.
“No big deal,” Pipitone summed up. But the story led WKMG’s noon newscast.
The story was also at the top of WESH-Channel 2’snoon newscast. WESH’s Bob Kealing held up discs and noted that some material required special software to open.
The latest in the Anthony case was challenge for reporters: The released material was extremely difficult to explain.
As WFTV-Channel 9anchor Vanessa Echols put it: “Ten discs of evidence were just released in the case. The discs contain DNA evidence, but some of them couldn’t be opened or copied onto our Web site. The discs did not list whose DNA charts were included in the evidence, so without knowing whose chart it is, there’s no way to decipher what they mean.”
But WKMG’s Pipitone provided some clarity.

Re: More evidence released 3-1 in Anthony case/ Court declares Casey Anthony indigent - DNA evidence released 3-10
Judge still has to approve it, it looks like.
Casey Anthony; Judge sets date for indigency hearing
Casey Anthony has cleared the first hurdle to get taxpayer money for her defense. The Orange County Clerk of Courts has declared her indigent. Now its up to the judge to aprove it.
A hearing for the Defendant's Motion for Determination of Indigency for Costs in the State vs. casey Anthony case will take place next Thursday, March 18th, at 11:00 a.m.
Judge Stan Strickland will oversee the hearing and if he agrees with the clerk, Casey will be able to get public funds for everything from bringing in expert witnesses to scientific research. But Orange County Public Defender Robert Wesley says Strickland will have a say in how the money is spent.
"The court receives applications from the lawyer for what they would like to have authorized and how much, and then the court sort of has an oversight role in those cases," said Wesley.
Last week, Casey's attorneys filed a motion saying she had already spent more than a $100,000 on her defense and had no more money.

"The court receives applications from the lawyer for what they would like to have authorized and how much, and then the court sort of has an oversight role in those cases," said Wesley.
Last week, Casey's attorneys filed a motion saying she had already spent more than a $100,000 on her defense and had no more money.

Indigency Hearing Slated In Anthony Case
Casey Anthony is one step closer on Wednesday to getting tax money to help pay for her defense.
Based on an affidavit that Anthony filled out, Orange County's Clerk of Court Lydia Gardner late Monday declared Anthony indigent.
Judge Stan Strickland scheduled an indigency hearing for March 18. He will then decide whether to approve the declaration.
Anthony's defense would be able to apply to the state to help recoup costs if Strickland gives his approval.
Defense attorney Jose Baez said Anthony has given full financial disclosure. She also signed a form detailing how she has no money to mount a defense. Gardner made the indigency declaration based on the form.
"It's the most vague and superficial affidavit you can possible have," Attorney Richard Hornsby said.
Before Anthony qualifies for public funding, Hornsby said Strickland needs to probe much deeper than the one-page form.
"I've got to think that Judge Strickland is going to make Casey Anthony and Jose Baez make a full disclosure of how much he was paid, who brokered the deal, who managed the funds, where the funds have been sitting since Casey Anthony has been in jail," Hornsby said.
Also added to the court file on Wednesday was a letter from a citizen in Fernandina Beach encouraging Strickland to decline Anthony's request and appoint a public defender to her case. Others echoed that sentiment.
"It doesn't sit well that she had the money and spent it and gave it all to the lawyers and now expects us to pay for it," a citizen said.
"You have Casey Anthony, who is now a convicted fraud, who is claiming indigence and is claiming that she somehow had $111,000 while she's been in jail," Hornsby said.
The question remains whether Anthony will have to disclose where she got the money she had before she can be entitled to public money in the future.

What would happen if the judge DIDN'T declare Casey indigent?
ANYBODY?

If he declares she is not indigent its because he found proof she is not, so she would use those funds. He may find she is now without, after paying Bozo the 100k+, in which case I hope he would decide to appoint a public defender.

Gee, what a great birthday present for Casey if Strickland finds her indigent and the State gets to pay for her defense. Happy Birthday to her.
I don't understand this at all. Casey has been sitting in jail for over a year now. She sold pics of Caylee (dispicable) in order to pay the $111,000 - please correct me if I'm wrong. Since she has been sitting in jail as of Oct 14, 2008 - of course she is indigent. This motion should have been addressed a long time ago. This ship has already sailed. The horse left the barn a long time ago.
Now, this is just my opinion. If she is indeed indigent then she should have a public defender like any other indigent inmate and take her chances. WHY in the hell should the State of Florida pay for Bozo, Linda Kenny Baden, Henry Lee and all the other high profile people?

Then she would have to find a way to pay for her defense or get a public defender. cindyBJ in OR wrote:What would happen if the judge DIDN'T declare Casey indigent?

Do public defenders get paid enough to put up with the Diva?

I can't help but wonder if KC had been declared indigent from the start whether this case would be moving along any quicker than it is or if it would even be over by now.

The judge will not appoint a public defender on the grounds that this is a very complicated case (not really) and by switching attorneys the chance of an overturn by appeal is very possible. Also by switching, the amount and complexity of further appeals would probably rack up millions more. Its better to continue
with Baez = we dont want Casey out of jail on an overturn by appeal. Baez has NOTHING - they are grasping at anything that they can to try to knock out
some of the more damaging evidence, as we can see by Baez's recent motions to supress vital evidence.

So Artgal, do you think that Bozo lied to us when he said that there would be an AHA MOMENT when Casey finally has her day in court.by artgal16 Today at 10:05 am Baez has NOTHING - they are grasping at anything that they can to try to knock out some of the more damaging evidence, as we can see by Baez's recent motions to supress vital evidence.

It's more like an OOPS moment. I can just hear Baez saying to himself, "What have I gotten myself into?"

If she initially had a court appointed attorney it would be over by now in my opinion.

Artgal, I agree with you because there would not have been enough funds for all the fancy schmancy motions and b.s.
BTW, I always await your take - especially on this case!! :)

Thank you wrap. What I have always wondered was what in the world was in Casey's mind when she
didnt report Caylee missing. She was happily at Tonys when Cindy and Amy came to get her. How in the world did she expect to explain Caylees disappearance
especially considering that she was found at Tonys
in no distress. What was she going to tell Cindy?
This has always bothered me as there is a definite
side to this that speaks of mental illness. Its not logical
to act in the way Casey did. Susan Smith had a fake story all ready to go - of course, within a few hours it was quickly dismissed but at least she tried to act like a hysterical mother whose children were taken. This is one aspect of this case that has always bugged me!

Artgal...I know. I bet she just thought she was above it all...everyone knew she lied...and she always got away with it. She did concoct a story...the Nanny.
I think to be a murderer one has to be "mentally ill". Nobody in their right mind would do such a thing. Ask...did she know "right from wrong". You bet she did. She justified it in her mind. She stated she was a "spiteful b@#ch". She knew it. She didn't care. And, still doesn't.

It is like Leonard Padilla said. (paraphrasing) "Casey lives her life 10 minutes at a time with no regard to the big picture or the consequences".
I personally think it was a stretch for Casey to concoct "the squirrel theory" much less the "Zanny took Caylee" scenario.

Administrators Concerned About Anthony Indigency JAC Writes 5-Page Response To Anthony's Request
State administrators said Friday that they have serious concerns about Casey Anthony's request to be declared indigent.
The designation would allow Anthony to use public funds to cover some of the costs of her defense.
An attorney for the Justice Administrative Commission said the source of their concern with her application revolved around how much money Anthony has already paid for her attorneys.
The attorney pointed out Anthony has already come up with more than $110,000 to pay Jose Baez and Andrea Lyon, and it's not known where that money came from.
The JAC indicated they want to participate in next week's hearing as Judge Stan Strickland considers the issue. His decision could clear the way for Anthony to begin receiving tax dollars.
In their five-page response, the JAC also indicated they wouldn't pay for all costs, including travel expenses for out-of-state attorneys.
