Conway, SC - Police in Conway say a missing two-week-old baby boy was found safe Tuesday afternoon.

Public Information office Catina Hipp says one woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and another person is being questioned.

Earlier in the day, police had requested the public’s help in finding Sharawn Jarod Chestnut, Jr. after the boy’s mother, Criche Nelson, reported him missing from their home on Duckett Street early Tuesday morning.

Police say Nelson told them she put Chestnut and his one-year-old sister in bed about 11:00 p.m. Monday. When she checked on them about midnight, she told police her son was missing.

Officers searched the area surrounding the house, but were unable to locate the child.

Conway police held a news conference Wednesday at 3 p.m. along with the family, asking for the public’s help finding Chestnut. About an hour after the news conference, police say Chestnut was found and returned to his mother, unharmed.

Bernadette Baker, Chestnut’s great-aunt, told WBTW News13, “Earlier this morning we were discussing somebody that we thought might have the baby and she saw the girl leave her house with a bag and she informed the police and they followed her, they stopped her at the light by Shoney’s, she had the baby under the seat in some plastic bags, trying to hide the baby and make it to Myrtle Beach, but she is in custody and so is the man that was driving her. We’re just happy, we’re just happy, we’re happy, we’re glad we got him back and there isn’t anything wrong with him, he’s good.”

Hipp said more details will be released as they become available.

I cannot get over this child being in PLASTIC and still being alive. It is a real miracle he did not suffocate. What crazy, insane people there are. It is like a disease.
