Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
Just a reminder that there is a status hearing on the Casey Anthony case today at 1:30 PM...She doesn't have to attend, but maybe GA and CA will show up with their new lawyer(s)...Who knows? The Caylee Daily says that local stations will livestream the hearing...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
Casey Anthony, on trial in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee, will not be in court on Monday for a status hearing.
Attorneys on both sides of the case are expected to attend the hearing in Orange County court in front of Judge Belvin Perry.
The hearing will give the judge the chance to gauge whether the case is still on track for the upcoming May 11 murder trial.
Anthony faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of her daughter.

WAA-AAA-AAA...Baez is just whining as usual...Judge Perry kind of put him down for not keeping up with his depositions...I think that may be the Ants new lawyer back there beside of the bald-headed guy that often sits with the Ants...Not sure...

LDB is refuting Baez's complaints about late discovery, telling why they could not get letters (to KC), emails (Dom Casey), etc. to him any sooner...

LDB says that she went to OC LE and went thru files to make sure that they had given copies of everything to defense as JP as suggested in last hearing...She did find some bank records et al. that she has or will soon give to Bozo...stated that they didn't seem relevant, but to be sure, gave or will give to defense very soon...Bozo rolled eyes at this

Bozo wants to send DNA to lab in Netherlands, but state does not want that to happen...Will try to reach an agreement or JP will have a hearing...
JP mentioned motions "clogging up the court" ...I think it was a slap at Bozo's frivolous motions..He said that these motions would be ruled on within 15 days or would be dismissed "without prejudice"

Your right the Judge did seem to be directing it to Baez that the motions are clogging up the system.lisette wrote:Bozo wants to send DNA to lab in Netherlands, but state does not want that to happen...Will try to reach an agreement or JP will have a hearing...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
It seems that there are some things that Bozo admits that he may have failed to turn over to state...LDB is asking for a deadline because when she is doing depositions, sometimes she finds that she does not have all the records she needs in order to complete depositions effectively...She is giving the example of her depo of Laura Buchanan...It seems that Laura B. had faxed a document to the defense's investigator, Mort Smith, that LDB had not received ; therefore, the depo had to be delayed...

JP is warning that he will not be allowing any delays once the trial starts...so they need to get their stuff settled before then!

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
I think JP is showing exceptional patience with Bozo as he whines about the state objecting to the way he is deposing LE...LDB is so logical with her presentations...JP is exhorting them to agree or he will schedule the depos himself...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
JP is referring to outstanding motions...says he is giving them a list and needs to know within 3 weeks their "take" on them...moot, rule, or hearing on...One motion from Orlando Sentinel in response to Bozo's motion about publicity...JP says that he is a judge, not a legislator...He cannot rewrite the Sunshine Law...Change of Venue is the remedy for pretrial publicity, and he has already agreed to select a jury from a different location and bring in...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
Mason is disputing that change of venue is not the only remedy, but didn't quite catch his reasoning...JP says that subpoenas for testimony should be issued for May 16, 2011...That is when he plans to start after jury selection and opening statements...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
LDB wanted to know if the opening and closing statements could be split between counsel, with one doing part and another doing another part...Bozo did not disagree..JP said that it would be ok with him if both sides were agreeable...

Re: Casey Anthony Status Hearing 8/30; Judge Perry Keeps Trial on Track/Defense to Take Depositions of LE Officers
It is evident that JP is determined to keep this trial on track...He is not caving to Bozo's complaints that he is having trouble meeting deadlines previously set...I am thrilled that JP is on this case...So far, he seems "appeal-proof"...He covers all the bases...The only reason for appeal that I see at this point is that KC had ineffective counsel...

Will somebody remind me why Conway is gone? Seems like he was the Ants little punching bag? I knew once why he left but have forgotten.
I always think of Conway going whizzing in his wheelchair when Cindy gave him a spin at the deposition for Zenida and was so mad.
I am not making fun of Conway but chuckling at the look on his face when his client wacked his chair on her way out.
Oh the Cindy stories.

No more delays for Casey Anthony trial, judge says
- The judge presiding over the case of Florida murder suspect Casey Anthony warned lawyers Monday to expect long days in her upcoming trial and no more postponements.
"This case must come to an end at some point. This case must be tried at some point," Orange County Circuit Judge Belvin Perry Jr. told lawyers at a status hearing Monday afternoon. Anthony's 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, disappeared more than two years ago, "and I know that everybody has placed this on their front burner," Perry said.
Anthony has pleaded not guilty to capital murder in Caylee's death. Jury selection in her trial is set to begin May 9, with opening statements set to begin a week later.
Perry told lawyers that they can expect proceedings to run six days a week, and he warned them that all aspects of discovery needed to be resolved in advance. There will be no "trial by ambush" in his court, he warned.
"How much time you get to sleep at night will be strictly on you," Perry said. "If you don't share things, then y'all are going to find a lot of evenings ya'll are going to be together, giving depositions, taking statements. It makes for a long next day."
Caylee Anthony disappeared in July 2008. Her remains were found after five months of intense searches and speculation.
Perry has ordered that jury selection in the highly publicized case will be held in another county, with jurors brought to Orlando when opening arguments begin. Defense attorney Jose Baez has repeatedly complained about pre-trial publicity and has asked the judge to limit the release of public records about the case, but Perry has refused.
More than 5,000 pages of documents related to the case have been released, including letters from Anthony's mother and both fan mail and hate mail from the public. Anthony has refused to see visitors, because the sessions would be videotaped and eventually released.

Love this judge. The attorneys on either side should not be planning any vacations in the near future."How much time you get to sleep at night will be strictly on you," Perry said. Im here but I didnt get a chance until now to watch the hearing. Now I know what has struck me about Baez that I couldnt put into words before -he is LAZY. He crys and complains and I guess if he's sitting on his ass he can dictate endless repetitive motions, but when he actually has to get up to do something its just too strenuous. There is a lot of work that he has left until the last possible moment. Now he wants to depose 35 witnesses in one day? Did I hear that correctly? Im sure JP's admonitions and warning that they are going to work long hours, weekends, etc, send shudders thru Baez. He hasnt been to see Casey in a long time either.
From what I have seen of his cross examinations in court in the hearings so far he is less than stellar. His competence in a case with this volume of evidence is very suspect. This case needs a lawyer who is someone who is methodical and will be very well prepared and organized. Linda Drane Burdick is a perfect example
of the type of person Im talking about.

He cant possibly do a thorough exminations of 36 people many law enforcement in one day -in 7 hours
what is that 5 people an hour? Unless they pay for the court reports and others overtime, I just cant see it.

After the status hearing, WESH 2 attended what was supposed to be a routine scheduling hearing between the defense, prosecution and Texas Equusearch attorney Mark NeJame.
Newly appointed Magistrate James Glatt set Oct. 4 and 5 for dates when the defense will get to look at Equeesearch records.
Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez reiterated allegations at the hearing that NeJame is only representing Equusearch for media coverage.
NeJame then told Cheney Mason, another member of the Anthony defense team, that Baez is a liar and incompetent.
“I believe your partner is not only a liar but incompetent,” NeJame said to Mason. “I'm going to say this in light of what he said to me -- he made up complete and total fabrications.”
Baez said he would not respond to NeJame’s comments.

Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, also fired back about recent comments a lawyer made about him.
"I know I'm competent, I know I'm doing what's good for my client and, what's more important, she does, and so does my team. So I could really care less what a lot of people say," Baez said.

Perry Wants Trial To Start On Time In May Of Next Year
POSTED: 4:48 pm EDT September 2, 2010
UPDATED: 5:28 pm EDT September 2, 2010
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Judge Belvin Perry has sent down a list of deadlines and orders to make sure Casey Anthony’s trial begins on schedule in May 2011.
Among the directives, Perry has sent the defense and prosecution a list of numerous pending motions.
Perry gave the two sides until Sept. 20 to tell him which ones need to be considered and which ones no longer apply.
After that time, Perry said he would issue an order declaring the latter ones moot.
From now on, Perry said he plans to address any new motions within 15 days of their filing.

Holy cow 35 in one day. It will be a long day. I wonder why they want to question so many LE personal? Only a few truly have any thing to do with this case. When do they dispose Richard Cain? That should be an interesting witness.

Casey's Attorneys Question Dozens Of Officers
Posted: 6:59 am EDT September 3, 2010
Updated: 6:09 pm EDT September 3, 2010
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's defense team lined up 35 witnesses to question Friday. They were all law enforcement officers.
That means dozens of cops were off the street Friday, sitting in an office away from their duties. Some of the officers spent hours just sitting and waiting.
The 35 law enforcement officers had no choice; they were subpoenaed. Some sat here for hours, not knowing when they'd be called for their depositions. Most were on duty and had other work they needed to be doing Friday.
There were homicide detectives, sex crimes detectives, a U.S. Secret Service officer and a crime scene tech, among others, all of whom had minimal roles in the first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony.
One detective told WFTV he was frustrated that he couldn't work his cases while he was waiting and said he'd never been to this kind of deposition before, where he did not have a specific appointment time. Homicide Detective Chris Dillon was one of the 17 officers who were scheduled for 1:00pm depositions.
"What would you be doing if you weren't here today?" WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Dillon.
"Solving homicide cases," he said.
Most of them sat around for an hour or so, only to be questioned for five minutes or so. Defense attorney Jose Baez canceled several law enforcement depositions over the summer. WFTV asked him why he tied up so many officers for hours in one day when he's had two years to do it.
"This was, hands down, the fastest and most efficient way of dealing with these issues and these witnesses," Baez said.
But WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says the depositions could have been scheduled every ten minutes to prevent wasting so much taxpayer time.
"You don't want to pull them all off the street, tie their time up, when they should be protecting and serving," Sheaffer said.
Chief Judge Belvin Perry told Baez that he will meet his deadlines even if Perry has to schedule his depositions for him, even on nights and weekends, but then witnesses would suffer, too.
WHAT'S NEXT IN THE CASE?
The prosecution must finish their expert witness depositions by September 30. The deadline for depositions for all other witnesses is October 31.
The next status hearing is scheduled for September 27.
Casey's trial starts May 9, 2011.

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - "35 depositions today? How is that going to work?" That’s what FOX 35 asked Casey Anthony's attorney Jose Baez as he walked into the State Attorneys office Friday. "Very methodically," replied Baez.
A few of the 35 subpoenaed had scheduling conflicts, so there were just more than two dozen of the state's witnesses that had to answer questions under oath from Casey Anthony's defense team.
They all work for the Orange County Sheriffs office and had some involvement with the Caylee Anthony case. Friday we watched crime scene investigators, uniformed patrol deputies, a civilian homicide analyst and several detectives go in and out of the courtroom.
Robbery Detective Peter Marino says he was questioned for just five minutes. "What kind of questions did they ask you?" asked FOX 35. "Can't get into that," said the detective. "Do you think you'll end up being a witness in this case?" asked FOX 35. "No." "Why not?" "Can't go into it," said the detective.
Casey Anthony's attorney Jose Baez told FOX 35 after getting through half of the witnesses that he doesn't think anyone he questioned today will be called at trial. Why? He says not one of them played significant roll in the case.
"These are people who maybe collected something, an item of evidence and then turned it over to someone else, people who showed up and conducted one interview. People who sat in while someone else did an interview," said Baez.
FOX 35 asked why the defense would take an entire day to interview so many people. Attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason pointed out that prosecutors listed each one of their 300 plus witnesses as a Category "A" witness. "Which under the rules means we have to take their deposition," explained Baez.
"A category "A" witness is one that purportedly has material evidence that they're likely to use in trial," added Mason. FOX 35 called the state attorneys office to ask why all of their witnesses are listed under "Category A".
Their spokesperson told FOX 35 they never list witnesses as Category B or C.

WTF??? ALL that precious time wasted...all those detectives and experts not being able to do their jobs because they are forced to sit there for hours waiting to be called, and all for naught.
"Can't get into it." Can't get into it????? Yea, well..he can't get his client off either. (Geez, that didn't sound right)

I've seen it a few times, but have never really gotten into it. The ones I saw were hilarious though. Also, "30 Rock." Another one that is off the chain funny when I watched it but did not make a habit of.
Off topic on Casey is fine w/me as we always end up getting back to her anyway. If not on this thread, then another one..and one after that,,,and one after that. If not about Casey directly..it's Bozo or Mason or "The George & Cindy Show".

All of them are creeps IMHO. GA and CA will find out what hell is like, they will for sure run into KC and maybe Bozo. They will never see our little Calylee again. She is in heaven. Maybe when we all arrive there at our designated time, we will meet her.....she brought us all together and will remain in my heart. I would love for her to tell us the real truth!
