Arrest Warrant Issued For Abraham D. Richardson For The Sexual Assault Of A Four Year Old Girl

Three months ago, we reported on the sexual assault of a four year old girl at the Riverbend Apartments in Grand Island.

Tuesday, we learned further information regarding that case.

News 5's Jordan Shefte attended a Grand Island police press conference about that sexual assault.

Chief Steve Lamken informed News 5 Tuesday that an arrest warrant has been filed in Hall County for the arrest of Abraham D. Richardson in connection with that crime.

But sexual assault isn't the only crime he's believed to have committed.

In a separate arrest, Richardson was placed in custody for Federal charges for possession of child pornography on October 20th.

On October 2nd, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly taken from her apartment and was sexually assaulted.

According to reports, the suspect fled to a nearby cornfield when someone walking by interrupted the assault.

Today, Grand Island police announced they have identified a suspect in connection to that crime.

"An arrest warrant has been filed in Hall County Court for the arrest of a twenty six year old Grand Island Man, Abraham D. Richardson, for the sexual assault of a four year old Grand Island girl at the Riverbend Apartments on October 2nd," said Chief Lamken.

When Richardson became a suspect in the sexual assault case, he was already under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for Child Pornography.

"We knew that our investigation was going to take time. The actions of Homeland Security allowed us to be secure in the knowledge that Mr. Richardson was incarcerated and no longer a threat to the public," said Lamken.

When News 5 covered the story in October, neighbors were concerned that the suspect was still on the loose, and might be a threat to their children.

Police say that this fear should be subsided since Richardson is the sole suspect in the sexual assault case.

"The department would like to thank our community for their trust and patience during the past three months," said Chief Lamken.

Police say that the investigation into the sexual assault moved slowly because lab tests had to be done on physical evidence.

Richardson is facing charges of first degree sexual assault on a child under 12, kidnapping, and first degree assault.

A Grand Island man charged with sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl will spend 20 years in a federal prison for a separate case.

26 year old Abraham Richardson had pleaded guilty to a federal pornography charge of receiving and distributing child pornography between October 2008 and February last year.

Richardson's state trial is scheduled for October in Hall County.

Richardson is accused of abducting a 4 year old girl from a Grand Island apartment last October and sexually assaulting her.
He's pleaded not guilty.

There will be no trial for a Grand Island man facing charges of sexual assault of a 4 year old girl at Riverbend apartments. Earlier Friday, Abraham Richardson entered a plea of no contest.

Therefore he was found guilty on two counts including, kidnapping, a class 2 felony, along with criminal attempted sexual assault on a child. That's also a Class 2 Felony.

Each of the felonies carries a sentence of 1 to 50 years in prison.

Richardson's sentencing is set for June 11th.

The 27 year old was scheduled to be on trial beginning April 29th in Lancaster County.

Richardson is already serving 20 years in prison for a separate federal pornography charge.

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of 48 to 50 years in prison.

Abraham D. Richardson, 27, of Grand Island must complete the sentence for his kidnapping conviction before beginning his sentence for attempted first-degree sexual assault on a child.

He pleaded no contest to the charges in April for an Oct. 2, 2011, incident at the Riverbend Apartments. He was originally charged with first-degree sexual assault on a child under age 12, kidnapping and first-degree assault.

In addition to the sentence he received Tuesday in Hall County District Court, Richardson was sentenced in August 2012 to 20 years in federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography. Hall County District Judge James Livingston ordered Richardson to serve his two state sentences after he completes his federal sentence.

Under Nebraska sentencing guidelines, Richardson will serve about half of the state sentences.

The state charges were filed after a then-4-year-old girl was found crying and bleeding outside an apartment. She underwent surgery for her injuries, according to court documents.
