Yoselyn Ortega, nanny accused of murdering two young children, admits to hurting kids: sources Nanny told cops in bedside interview said that she had money problems
BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA AND SHANE DIXON KAVANAUGH / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2012, 8:07 PM
The upper West Side nanny accused of brutally butchering two children last month admitted she hurt the adorable kids but did not confess to killing them, police sources told the Daily News.
Yoselyn Ortega, 50, said Lucia Krim, 6, fought back when she attacked her, and said Lucia’s brother Leo, almost 2, was sleeping when she began her frenzied assault in the bathroom of the family’s W. 75th St. apartment on Oct. 25.
The unhinged nanny told cops about the attack during a bedside interview Saturday at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, sources said.
Ortega said she had money problems and that she had wanted to earn more, police sources said.
Cops charged Ortega Saturday with two counts of murder in the first and second degrees. She has been hospitalized since the slayings after apparently trying to kill herself by slicing her own neck as the children’s mother, Marina Krim, walked in on the crime scene.
Marina Krim was returning home from a swimming lesson for her third child, 3-year-old Nessie, when she walked into her darkened apartment.
Seeing no sign of the kids or their nanny inside the apartment, Krim went downstairs and asked the doorman if he had seen the three of them leave. He said he had not, and Krim and Nessie returned to the apartment.
Just as Marina Krim stepped into the bathroom, Ortega began manically stabbing herself in the neck with a kitchen knife. The nanny had also sliced her wrists, police said.
Lucia and Leo’s bodies were lying in the bathtub. Lucia had multiple cut and stab wounds, while Leo’s throat had been slit, police said.
Ortega,a native of the Dominican Republic and the mother of a 17-year-old son, Jesus, had worked for the Krims for two years, and relatives said the Krims treated her like family. She recently started seeing a psychologist, relatives told police.
Marina Krim and her husband, CNBC executive Kevin Krim, have gone into seclusion with their surviving daughter, Nessie.
It remains unclear when Ortega will be arraigned.

Yoselyn Ortega Told Police She Had Huge Fight With Marina Krim Day Before Stabbing
November 05, 2012 11:11 PM EST
by Stacy Carey
People following the Krim family tragedy have been anxious to hear more from the NYC nanny accused of stabbing Lucia and Leo to death. Yoselyn Ortega tried to take her own life as the children's mother, Marina Krim, walked in on the scene, but now she is awake and talking to police. Details are emerging rapidly, and now there are reports that Ortega and Krim had a big fight the day before the murders.
Radar Online shares that "Yoselyn told NYPD detectives that she was involved in an epic argument with Marina Krim the day before the children were tragically murdered." Their source adds that Ortega says after the fight when she left the family's Manhattan apartment the prior day, Krim ignored her and as a result she became "very, very angry."
Apparently Yoselyn also told police that she and Marina had been butting heads over the care of the children, as Krim thought Ortega needed to interact with the kids more and felt they were being fed too much junk food when she wasn't around. Even if this is exactly what happened, those following the case can simply not wrap their head around the idea of having an argument with the mother one day to horrifically murdering two of the children the next day.
Until this horrific incident, those that knew Yoselyn and the Krim family believed that the group was very close. The Krim family visited Yoselyn's family in the Dominican Republic earlier this year, and everybody seemed completely shocked that "Josie" could do something like this. Now, those following the case are shocked at the emerging details. Radar Online even notes that Ortega is said to be showing no remorse or emotion for killing Lucia and Leo. Many have thought there must have been undetected mental health issues to have led to such a thing, but the details emerging are even more disheartening than anyone could have anticipated.
It's difficult if not impossible for people to imagine a nanny, who had been with the family for two years and supposedly loved the children, brutally murdering the kids over disagreements with the parents. Kevin and Marina Krim are, understandably, surrounding themselves with loved ones right now as they protect their remaining child, Nessie, from the spotlight. Monday the family also announced they have created the Lulu & Leo Fund to honor the memory of their children. In light of such a heartbreaking loss, parents are hugging their children a little bit tighter every night as they process how quickly a situation can disintegrate. There just seems to be no way they ever could have anticipated such a horrible ending to this situation, and people will be anxious to see what happens next with Yoselyn Ortega.

Accused Nanny Killer Had 'Epic Argument' With Slain Kids' Mom Day Before Tragic Murders

Yoselyn Ortega, the Manhattan nanny accused of killing the two young kids in her care, had an argument with her employer, Marina Krim, the day before Ortega allegedly brutally stabbed the children to death, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.
"Yoselyn told NYPD detectives that she was involved in an epic argument with Marina Krim the day before the children were tragically murdered," a law enforcement source told RadarOnline.com exclusively. "Yoselyn also said that when she left at the end of the day before the murders, Marina ignored her when she said good-bye and this made her very, very angry. Yoselyn became extremely animated when she discussed the incident with law enforcement. Yoselyn also said she had numerous disagreements with Marina about how the kids were being cared for. Marina didn't think Yoselyn was interacting with the kids enough and was giving them junk food when she was out of sight."
As RadarOnline.com previously reported, police interviewed Ortega Saturday at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, just hours before the 50-year-old woman was charged with first-degree murder in the October 25 killings of 6-year-old Lucia Krim and her 2-year-old brother, Leo.
Ortega waived her right to have her lawyer with her during Saturday's discussion with investigators, police said. At one point in the interrogation, Ortega said that Marina Krim "knows what happened," the New York Times reported.
"During the interview with Ortega, which was video and audiotaped by cops, she gave a lot of detail about her life with the Krim family," the source says. "During the interrogation Yoselyn repeatedly asked about her family and asked how they were doing. She didn't express any remorse or shed any tears when talking about Lucia and Leo's murders. It was rather shocking to cops because of the gruesome crime scene that Yoselyn didn't express any emotion when speaking of the kids. Everything was just rather matter of fact."
The Dominican Republic native, who was not on medication Saturday, came off as "spacy" during the hospital room chat, investigators told the paper.
Meanwhile, as previously reported, hundreds of black-clad mourners gathered in New York City on Monday to remember the two children.
The emotional memorial service was held at Avery Hall, where Marina and Kevin Krim said goodbye to their beloved babies and joined with loved ones to "celebrate the beautiful lives," reported the New York Daily News.
"It is important to us that they are remembered as the sweet, creative, and fun-loving children they were," the parents said in a statement.
The security at Monday's funeral service was kept tight for the sake of the Krim's remaining daughter, Nessie, three, who was with her mom at swim class when the deadly carnage took place at the family home.
"It is of utmost importance to us that she is afforded the opportunity to grow up privately, like any other kid," revealed her protective parents.

She is only 3 so she probably won't have much if any memories of this. Thank the Lord!

A[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I so feel for this family. Their only saving grace is they still have their little girl. I hope they have more children. They sound like they are excellent parents and I would have loved to read her blog.

Marina Krim’s nanny Yoselyn Ortega was stressed out about money. Did the Krim family hold out…?
SCALLYWAG NOVEMBER 11, 2012 19
Recent developments over the killings of Marina and Kevin Krim’s children 6 year old Lulu and 2 year old Leo Krim at the hands of their former nanny Yoselyn Ortega now paint a picture of a woman who was at her wits end trying to make ends meet financially and somehow along the way snapped when she decided to take the lives of the Krim family children.
Despite earning a respectable $18 an hour for her nanny duties which would have brought her annual salary up to $32 000, a sum commensurate to what other similarly employed nannies enjoyed courtesy of their affluent Manhattan employers it seems Ms Ortega was unable to fulfill her day to day living arrangements and somehow this left her embittered and increasingly resentful of her employers who in comparison lived a markedly affluent lifestyle.
To date speculation has run rampant that Ms Ortega felt belittled by her lot and scorned that her employer, the Krim family whom she had over the last 2 years of her employment had begun to form a close bond with. That though some are suggesting may have been the trigger which brought out Ms Ortega’s hostility who may have by now come to expect much more from her employer given the very personal nature of their relationship who in the light of her financial duress could only muster an extra 5 hours a week of paid work, as a house cleaner (something that is said to have repulsed Ms Ortega and caused great indignity).
In fact the Krim family had also gone out of their way to introduce Ms Ortega to another family who were in the market for a nanny whom eventually decided against hiring Ms Ortega given that they found her sour and unkempt. Although that too raises the question if Ms Ortega was really hurting for money why didn’t she make an effort to make a better presentation or just simply accept the hours offered to her until other opportunities presented themselves. Or was it a situation that Ms Ortega felt that she was being taken advantage of and felt she deserved better without her having to resort to now cleaning up after her employer? Which is to say the task of being a nanny may be more quite involved and the pay most nanny’s draw may in fact not be actually what they ought to be paid given the degree of responsibility and effort involved? Or is it a situation that Ms Ortega felt she was owed better pay simply because her employers were affluent and in her mind almost mandated to do so given how she had expressed to them the degree of financial duress she was experiencing?
Other ideas postulated is the notion that Ms Ortega who had been in the United States for ten years, having arrived from the Dominic Republic with an accounting degree was no where closer to her aspirations of living the American dream. Which poses the awkward question how does one actually survive in a city like NYC with a salary of $32 000 especially when they have aspirations to send their children to private schools in the hope that they can later gain traction in the workforce, a reality hardly lost on many working families.
Nevertheless it seems Ms Ortega grew to resent her employers the Krim family who were in the position to live the type of lifestyle that she yearned for herself (it is said Ms Ortega had spent considerable sums of money on a sublet before being forced to relinquish it and consequently forced to move back in with her sister with her son in tow) and who also now found herself becoming increasingly bitter towards especially having by now being warned that she risked losing her tenure if her attitude and performance didn’t markedly change for the better. Something that it appears caused Ms Ortega great distress and a feeling of betrayal.
Nevertheless despite Ms Ortega’s financial woes authorities are not necessarily convinced that this in and of itself was the precursor which led to her slaying the children.
Said a law enforcement agent to dnainfo:
Complicating Ms Ortega’s financial situation was her relationship with her the father of her son, Jesus who may or may not have been assisting in the financial responsibilities of raising their 17 year old son.
Offers the huffingtonpost: Investigators tracked down Jesus’ father, Leno, a Dominican native who lives in Inwood and drives a taxi.
He and Ortega separated amicably in 2001 and he had “no ill will toward her,” and although he said he rarely saw Ortega, they “had no problems between them,” sources said.
“He was shocked by what happened,” a source said. “He had no idea what demons were raging.”
Leno told officials that he had dutifully sent $140 a month in child support to his son in the Dominican Republic. The figure, he said, was established by a Dominican judge. He also regularly visited his son there. He stopped having to pay child support when his son moved to New York, as Ortega didn’t petition a city court to require Leno make payments here.
Ultimately one is forced to wonder had the Krim family offered their nanny a raise as some have suggested that they ought to how much different things today may have been but then again one can easily argue what obligation were the Krim family to offer their employee a raise? Which raises other awkward questions, had Ms Ortega displaced her outrage of the difficulty of living the American dream on her employers rather than the system itself which many would argue makes it difficult for individuals of Hispanic decent to rise?
Although that too could be considered a tenuous argument as there are many who come from impoverished circumstances who are able to rise and acquire financial success and mobility, and yet on the flip that social mobility has over the years gotten increasingly difficult for those not in a position of financial empowerment and forced to live paycheck to paycheck. A reality not lost on many families who increasingly find themselves falling by the wayside just to meet basic expenses.
Regardless of the socio economic implications of the above case many have found Ms Ortega’s purported actions reprehensible, which poses the question, if she as a decent hardworking individual aspired to the lot of the Krim family why then did she then resort to murder? Surely even she must have understood that she was transgressing a line of decorum, human empathy and regard for life? Unless of course Ms Ortega rightly or wrongly perceived that she had been violated first….?

“There was definitely an issue with treatment by her employees, and money issues. But there must be some other craziness that has not come out.”

Yoselyn Ortega, Nanny Charged in Krim Family Murders, Indicted by Grand Jury
November 13, 2012 10:40 PM EST
Yoselyn Ortega, the NYC nanny charged with murdering the two young Krim family children in her care last month, has formally been indicted by a grand jury. Those following the case know that Ortega is accused of stabbing Lucia and Leo Krim, then turning the knife on herself when the children's mother, Marina Krim, came in to the bathroom and found the horrific scene.
WABC shares that Yoselyn has been indicted on charges of murder in the first and murder in the second degree for the Krim children's deaths. Many have been closely following this case over the past few weeks since Lulu and Leo's deaths, and people cannot imagine being one of the Krim family members in the midst of this heartbreaking tragedy. WABC shares that Paul Browne, the police department spokesperson, shared that their interviews indicate "apparently over the last month [Yoselyn] was not herself." Previous reports have indicated that Ortega was feeling a great deal of financial stress, and seemingly was upset with Kevin and Marina Krim. Many will be waiting, however, to hear more about what drove the NYC nanny to allegedly take the lives of the beautiful children in her care.
Ortega's sister has said that Yoselyn Ortega used to work as a print shop manager in Manhattan, but went back to Santiago a while back and when she returned, she had trouble finding a job. She took the nanny job with the Krim family about two years ago. Yoselyn's sister had no idea anything what was wrong per their last conversation together, and she has been shocked at what has transpired. Those following the case have been shocked as well, but are glad to see the case is progressing. The Krim family is working on moving forward, and they have created the Lulu & Leo Fund as a way to celebrate their children's lives. While that will, of course, not take away the pain they are enduring, it will hopefully give the family a way to move forward and give others interested in supporting them a vehicle for helping.

Upper West Side Nanny Is Indicted on Murder Charges
By RUSS BUETTNER
The nanny accused of fatally stabbing two children whom she cared for on the Upper West Side has been indicted on murder charges, according to court records released on Tuesday.
The nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, 50, remains hospitalized at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Her arraignment on murder charges is expected to take place via a video link to State Supreme Court in Manhattan, but has not been scheduled.
In the early evening of Oct. 25, the police have said, the children’s mother, Marina Krim, returned home with her 3-year-old daughter to find her two other children — Lucia, 6, and Leo, 2 — dead of knife wounds in the bathtub.
As Ms. Krim walked into the bathroom, the police said, Ms. Ortega plunged a kitchen knife into her own throat.
Ms. Ortega was intubated and unable to speak for more than a week. She eventually told detectives that she resented the family because they always told her what to do, a law enforcement official said last week. She has not confessed to the killings, though, the official said.

Nanny Indicted in Stabbing Deaths of 2 Children. Yoselyn Ortega, 50, has been indicted on two counts each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder

The nanny accused of killing two children in their Upper West Side home has been indicted on murder charges, authorities said Tuesday.
Yoselyn Ortega, 50, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, officials said.
Ortega was previously charged by police Saturday, Nov. 3, while recovering from self-inflicted wounds at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Police say that on the evening of Oct. 25, while the children's mother was out with a third child, Ortega repeatedly stabbed 6-year-old Lucia Krim and her 2-year-old brother, Leo.
When their mother, Marina Krim, returned with her 3-year-old daughter, she found their bodies in the bathtub, with Ortega lying on the bathroom floor with stab wounds to her neck. A kitchen knife was nearby.
Ortega, 50, remains hospitalized.
A memorial service was held for Lucia and Leo at Avery Fisher Hall Nov. 5. Their parents had released a statement saying they wanted to celebrate their "beautiful lives," not just mourn them. They have not spoken publicly about the murders.
Friends and relatives of Ortega said she appeared to be struggling emotionally and financially recently. Few, though, could offer any explanation for what might have caused her to attack the children.
"She snapped," the nanny's sister, Celia Ortega, told The New York Post. "We don't understand what happened to her mind."
"Apparently over the last month she was not herself," said police department spokesman Paul Browne.
Police said they were unaware of any significant history of psychological problems for Ortega, but were investigating whether she had recently sought treatment.
Neighbor Ruben Rivas told reporters she seemed to have suddenly aged in recent weeks and had lost weight. Other friends said that while she was paid well by her domestic employers, Kevin and Marina Krim, and seemed happy with her job, she had suffered a financial setback when she had to give up an apartment she had rented in the Bronx, and recently moved back in with her sister.
William Krim, grandfather to the slain children, told the Times he wasn't aware of any conflicts between the family and the nanny.
"We're just the most stunned people in the world. I mean, they treated this woman so well," he said.

'Killer' nanny accused in kids' bathtub slashing deaths hit with throw-away-the-key indictment

A grand jury has voted a throw-away-the-key indictment -- charging first degree murder -- against Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny accused in the bathtub slashing deaths of two young Upper West Side children under her care.
The rare charge -- brought only 27 times in all of New York in 2011, according to state stats -- carries the maximum sentence of life without parole, meaning zero chance of daylight.
It is reserved for the most heinous homicides, including serial killings, the killings of judges and cops, and killings deemed cruel and wanton.
In Ortega's case, the grand jury found the charge is warranted because there were two victims, Lucia and Leo Krim, according to a copy of the indictment filed publicly today. The girl was 6 years old; the boy was 2.
Yoselyn Ortega, accused of murder.
Ortega has remained at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell since Oct. 25, when the children were found bleeding to death in the bathtub of their W. 75th Street apartment by their mother, Marina Krim. Ortega had slashed her own self in the throat.
Marina Krim's surviving child, 3-year-old Nessie, had accompanied her mom home to their house of horrors and was physically unharmed.
The nanny had been suffering mental and financial difficulties, and told cops that she resented the Krim family for asking her to do an extra five hours a week of housework.
No date has yet been set for Ortega to be arraigned on the indictment, which charges her with two counts of murder one and two counts of murder two. A call to Ortega's lawyer, Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, was not returned.

She should go out like she took those two darling kids out. Guess she tried to do that? Rhetorical question.

Preppy Murderer lawyer to represent UWS nanny
JANON FISHER
Thursday, November 08, 2012
Top-flight criminal defense lawyer Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, who once defended Preppy Murderer Robert Chambers, will represent Yoselyn Ortega, the upper West Side nanny accused in the stabbing deaths of a media executive's children, sources told the Daily News.
Van Leer-Greenberg, 60, who colleagues say cuts a bold figure with her large-frame glasses and blond hair, has taken on many high-profile media cases. Aside from defending Chambers on a heroin charge, she represented the prime suspect in the death of Julliard student Sara Fox in an unrelated assault charge. The litigator, who did not respond to requests for comment Thursday, has her work cut out for her in the "Killer Nanny" case. Ortega, 50, expected to arraigned as soon as Friday, was charged with murder after allegedly stabbing Lucia Krim, 6, and her baby brother, Leo, 2, on Oct. 25. She then turned the knife on herself, slashing her own throat so severely she broke a bone in her neck, cops and sources said. Marina Krim returned home with a 3-year-old child to find the horrific scene in a bathroom. The children’s father, CNBC executive Kevin Krim, was returning from California when the murders happened. Ortega told cops she harmed the children, saying the little girl fought back and the boy was asleep when the attack began, but she stopped short of a full confession, law enforcement sources said.

Yoselyn Ortega, Krim murders suspect, pleads not guilty in child deaths
Posted: 11/29/2012
By: Kristina Sgueglia CNN
EW YORK (CNN) -- Handcuffed to a bed and wrapped in a hospital blanket, a New York nanny accused of killing a sister and her toddler brother pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder.
In a case that has given many parents nightmares, Yoselyn Ortega was watching 6-year-old Lucia and 2-year-old Leo Krim at their Upper Westside Manhattan home in late October when police say she stabbed the kids to death.
Their mother came home, police said, and found her children in the bathroom. She also saw the nanny stab herself with a kitchen knife, authorities said.
"This crime shocked and horrified parents around the city, many of whom entrust their children to the care of others both by necessity and by choice," Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance said in a statement. "My heart goes out to the family of those beautiful young children, and I hope that, with time, this family will heal."
Wednesday's hearing took place -- not in a courtroom -- but at Manhattan's Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Ortega, 50, did not speak, and her lawyer entered her plea for her. The nanny is expected to undergo psychological evaluation, said authorities. She has been indicted and charged with first- and second-degree murder in both deaths.
A native of the Dominican Republic, Ortega had been a naturalized U.S. citizen for 10 years. Her next court date is scheduled for January 16.

Marina And Kevin Krim, Parents Of Children Allegedly Killed By Nanny Yoselyn Ortega, Post Feelings On Facebook
NEW YORK — The parents of two children who police say were stabbed to death by a nanny at home are sharing their hurt and healing with the world on Facebook as they make plans to carry on with their surviving child.
Kevin and Marina Krim spent weeks grieving their children's October slayings with relatives in their native California and in recent days have been postings messages online as they drive a recreational vehicle back to New York with their 4-year-old daughter, Nessie.
"She saves us every day," Kevin Krim, a media executive, wrote on Dec. 28, Nessie's birthday. "Marina and I couldn't be more proud of her – she is very smart, beautiful and tough."
Nessie was at a swim lesson and her mother had gone to pick her up when 6-year-old Lucia, called Lulu, and 2-year-old Leo were stabbed in a bathroom of the family's apartment a block from Central Park. Nanny Yoselyn Ortega lay nearby after slitting her own throat and wrists, police said.
Ortega, who's from the Dominican Republic, survived. She pleaded not guilty to murder charges and is in a prison hospital, undergoing psychiatric evaluations. Police and friends have said she was in debt, had lost her apartment and had expressed frustration the Krims didn't pay her more.
After the children's funeral, the shattered couple established the Lulu & Leo Fund to raise money for children's education and enrichment programs.
On the Facebook page for the fund, the parents write that they are doing things their children would have enjoyed and "hoping to experience some inspiring moments that will help us with our healing and rebuilding."
In Los Angeles, they found a gallery that displayed a mural by Leo Politi, Lulu's favorite children's author.
"Lulu and Leo were there in spirit with us for our Christmas Eve adventure," Marina Krim wrote.
On Jan. 5, the third day of their cross-country trip, they were in Santa Fe, N.M., visiting art galleries "that we are sure Lulu and Leo would have loved."
Lulu's art fills the Facebook page, along with photos of the smiling little girl and her brother. And now, there's also Santa Fe art the children might have liked: a painting of two bears riding a bicycle, another of three hearts.
Krim, who worked as general manager of CNBC's digital media division, and his wife, a stay-at-home mom, did not return messages from The Associated Press. A family friend said the Krims weren't ready to give interviews.
After last month's massacre of 20 first-graders and six school administrators at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., the couple expressed their feelings for those children and their families.
"Our hearts especially go out to all the families who have lost their children in an act of unspeakable violence," they wrote. "As parents who are dealing with loss and grief, we understand how much these children will be missed every minute of every day."
Online, hundreds of friends, relatives and strangers have been posting responses.
The grieving couple said they're hopeful 2013 "will be a year of healing, growth and peace."

Yoselyn Ortega was due in court on January 16, 2013... BUT there is no news about it...
I checked here and there - NOTHING....
ON forums were i was or where i am currently on "time out" (WS), lol .. they are also wondering "what's up" .. no news :)
But then i FOUND this not long ago: (no one else found this on the net yet, lol)

... Another difference is that Lanza had no trouble taking his life as impulse translated from finger to trigger. Ortega allegedly survived her effort as original impulse seemed to become hesitation when the initial effort did not prove immediately fatal.
As a result, the calendar an officer posted with a piece of masking tape on Wednesday morning outside Room 1300 at Manhattan Supreme Court included the name Ortega. And it seemed we would be getting our first look at what prosecutors say is a parent’s worst nightmare, a nanny who, apparently, suddenly and inexplicably becomes a murderous monster.
As the hour approached, several of the nanny’s relatives appeared, including one of her sisters, who bears a strong resemblance to her. Defense lawyer Valerie Van Lee-Greenberg came in.
But when the case was called, the court clerk informed Judge Gregory Caro that Ortega was still in Elmhurst Hospital in Queens for either physical or psychological reasons, or perhaps both. The judge suggested rescheduling to February 6th.
“February 8th?” defense attorney asked.
“February 8,” the judge said.
The Ortega family departed the courtroom and headed off into the city, which had received as high a compliment as it had ever received at the start of the month and the New Year, when the Krim family headed back to New York in an RV from California.
The Krims had left New York with their surviving child, Nessie, after the slayings to be with family in California, where they had lived until three years ago. They were there when news broke of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They posted a statement online.
“Our hearts especially go out to all the families who have lost their children in an act of unspeakable violence. As parents who are dealing with loss and grief, we understand how much these children will be missed every minute of every day.

Wow..that Daily Beast link is so sad!! There are pics that the two little ones drew.
Thanks for the article, Darkman.
Is this monster's defense going to be that she had money problems? If so, many of us would be killing.

Family of children allegedly slain by nanny returns home to New York

NEW YORK - The New York City family, whose two young children were murdered allegedly by their nanny, has returned home from a cross-country road trip that helped them to “live in the present,” they said in a Facebook posting on Friday.
The 11-day journey was part of an effort to heal, following the deaths of Leo Krim, 1, and Lulu Krim, 6, who were fatally stabbed on Oct. 25 in their Manhattan apartment, the family said on Facebook.
Yoselyn Ortega, the children’s nanny, is accused of the murders.
Parents Kevin and Marina Krim, in a posting Friday on a Facebook page called the “Lulu & Leo Fund,” said that their 13-state trip through the Southwest and South, which began Jan. 2, allowed them to make “new unique family memories with Nessie,” their surviving 3-year-old daughter. The page was launched to raise money for children’s education in memory of Lulu and Leo.
“Our journey forced us to live in the present - we didn’t want to miss any part of the beautiful landscape going by out the window,” the post said.
The children’s mother discovered their bodies in a bathtub in the family’s Upper West Side luxury apartment after she returned home from a swimming lesson with Nessie, police have said. Upon her return, Ortega began to stab herself in front of Krim.
Ortega pleaded not guilty to first- and second-degree murder charges in November from a hospital where she was recovering from her self-inflicted wounds and slated for psychiatric examination.
Ortega’s next court date is scheduled for Feb. 8.

'Killer Nanny' Yoselyn Ortega makes first public appearance, faces murder charges of 2 tots

Yoselyn Ortega is seen in court today for the first time since the brutal slayings of two young children in her care.
She has hidden these four months from reporters and cameras. But today, the notorious accused Killer Nanny made her first public appearance, sitting hunched and handcuffed at the defense table for a brief hearing.
Yoselyn Ortega, wearing baggy gray sweats and with her hair in loosely-braided cornrows and pigtails, came to court for an update on her first degree murder indictment in the unfathomable knife-point slaughters of two young, Upper West Side children under her care.
....
Ortega was in court for just two minutes, during which Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro expressed impatience at the length of time it is taking for her to be psychologically evaluated. Ortega, who now bears a thick slashing scar to the front of her neck, listened via a Spanish interpreter.
"Six thousand pages have to be read," Ortega's public lawyer Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg responded, referring to the medical records Ortega has generated prior to the stabbings and during her four months in a prison ward at Elmhurst Hospital, where she remains. "That might take a while," the lawyer said.
"They've had them for a while," the judge responded. "It's not like they got them yesterday." Ortega will be brought to a courthouse clinic for further evaluation on March 21, and back to open court April 15 for possible psych exam results, the judge said.

‘Killer Nanny’ Yoselyn Ortega appears in court for first time since horrific stabbing of two children
Hearing adjourned because none of Ortega's psychiatric examinations had been completed.

Killer nanny Yoselyn Ortega in Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday, March 8, 2013, during her first court appearance on charges that she killed the two children she was hired to care for: 6-year-old Lucia Krim and her 2-year-old brother Leo.
The nanny accused of viciously stabbing two children before trying to slit her own throat made her first court appearance Friday, standing mute and pale in front of a judge at a psychiatric hearing.
Yoselyn Ortega, 50, was handcuffed and dressed in tan prison garb when she shuffled into Manhattan Supreme Court.
The hearing was quickly adjourned until April 5 when the judge learned none of Ortega's psychiatric examinations had been completed - including one that's been requested by her defense team.
"Once again, the clinic has not interviewed the defendant, examined the defendant. What's taking so long?" Justice Gregory Carro asked her defense attorney.
Ortega's lawyer said the medical report she requested was still a work in progress.
"Six thousand pages have to be read. That might take a while," said Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg.
"They've had them for awhile," Carro shot back. "It's not like they got them yesterday."
Ortega didn't speak but listened attentively as a Spanish-language translator stood by her side and narrated the proceedings.
She appeared skinny and tense in her drab prison smock with a white shirt on underneath, and kept her face expressionless throughout.
Ortega's tan prison pants hung loosely on her small frame, and she had her hair plaited into an assortment of cornrows, ending in three pigtails.

Yoselyn Ortega Appears in Court for First Time Since Krim Family Murders
March 08, 2013 01:50 PM EST
The NYC nanny accused of murdering Lucia and Leo Krim made her first appearance in court Friday. Yoselyn Ortega had not attended previous hearings, but her lawyer was unable to keep her from this one. Ortega is facing two counts of first-degree murder as well as two counts of second-degree murder. The New York Daily News shared the first photo of Yoselyn in court. WTH? This should be 1st degree!
Ortega is said to have shown no expression during the brief hearing. She had a translator next to her, and she wore tan prison clothes with glasses and her hair braided. The judge was unhappy to hear that psychiatric evaluations have yet to be completed, and a new hearing was set for April 5.
The defense seems to be making plenty of excuses for the pace at which the case is moving, and the judge was not impressed. While many following the Krim family murder case are anxious to hear from Ortega herself, that clearly is not going to be happening anytime soon, if ever.
Nessie, Kevin and Marina Krim are doing their best to move forward with their lives in New York, but many are anxious for them to have some justice in the case regarding Lulu and Leo's brutal murders. There will surely never be an answer that lessens the heartbreak, but many are anxious to see things progress with Yoselyn Ortega and the trial.
