Tanisha and Harold just got home from a short holiday to find their entire house flooded and all their possessions destroyed. They ask for your prayers.

The other part I call BULLSHIT on is- (and remember, I not only have Hep C myself but worked as a jail nurse for 2 years-) this:
Re: Jodi says she was "pricked" with an infected TB needle and now has Hep C. OK, did this really happen, if a syringe was out and uncapped near any inmates you better believe the jail nurse is going to keep custody of that syringe both in her hand and with her eyes, and then she is going to drop it into a sharps collection canister/ box. No way would she be near Jodi with a syringe used on an inmate- who supposedly has Hep C-
to have pricked her. And how did Jodi know the syringe was infected with Hep C? Does she have some special gifted eyes that are able to look at an object and tell her what germs or bacteria or VIRUSES are on it?
Second, the treatment she is complaining she didn't get starts at $10,000 for the Solvadi alone, not to mention the frequent labs, the other meds she would have to take with it, and other drugs that may need to be added along the way. Other types of treatment meds are even more expensive. Who the frick does she think is going to pay for that, the state of Az? She already cost them a mint with her trial. And if she gets LIP w/o POP, why bother with treatment anyway? She would live in jail till she died, all that money wasted. And if she (unlikely, I think) gets something like 25 years, well no treatment for her then either because there are many many thousands of people who have not committed a crime, are not in jail being found guilty of murder w/ extreme cruelty, that have no insurance or have state insurance and can't afford the meds that would possibly work and "cure" them. Why should Jodi get a free ride with treatment after what she has done? Its just not right.

And finally, how the hell does Jodi know where she got her Hep C, if she does really have it? As promiscuous as she was, probably still is, and all the freaky shit she was ready willing and able to engage in sexually, including anal sex. Practicing anal sex in itself is a risk factor for Hep C.
There are lots and lots of ways they can debunk Jodis claims of Hep C transmission.
And the nurse would have filled out a report if an inmate had been stuck or pricked with a used needle. Puh-leese.

The re-sentencing phase of the Jodi Arias trial is ramping up again.

The convicted killer and her lawyers were back in court Wednesday morning.

Video cameras were not allowed in but still photographs show Arias back in her black-and-white prison jumpsuit and wearing her plastic glasses.

Procedural matters were discussed with another court date set up. A status conference is set for Aug. 8 at 8:30 a.m. No TV cameras will be allowed.

The penalty phase is set to start on Sept. 8.

Arias was found guilty May 8, 2013 of first-degree murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, but jurors couldn't agree on a sentence, and Stephens declared a mistrial in that portion.

Convicted murderer Jodi Arias, prisoner No. 438434, spends 23 hours a day in a 7-by-11-foot cell in Estrella Jail in Phoenix.

She rests on a thin mattress on the bottom of two beds that jut from a cinderblock wall. Or she sits on a stool at a small metal table attached to another wall. She exercises, reads and draws, always by herself, in solitary confinement.

She doesn't have a computer, personal cellphone, radio or television. She eats, sleeps and goes to the bathroom in her cell, always being watched by authorities. Her cell has a window, but it's covered with a metal grate.

She is allowed one hour outside the cell each day. She is taken to a large room where she showers, greets visitors or talks on the phone. The conversations are monitored.

And she is running a business.

I know law-abiding people who are struggling to keep their business in the black, and they're in the store practically as many hours as Arias is confined to her cell.

How does a prisoner in solitary confinement operate a business?

Arias is in jail because she savagely murdered her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, in 2008. Her case had everything HLN - which turned into the All Jodi Arias Network during her trial last year - could want. There was a woman scorned, a handsome young victim, jealousy, rage, lust and sex.

And murder.

In September, another jury will decide her punishment. Arias will get either life in prison or the death penalty. She has asked that her life be spared.

And while Arias waits for her fate, she produces more drawings for sale.

Several months ago, I contacted Arias at Estrella Jail and asked if she'd cooperate with me writing a column about her art - and the business of selling her art - while in jail convicted of first-degree murder.

Her answer: "A story about my artwork (for a change) and not my case? I'm SO on board!"

I do not mean to glamorize Arias or boost her sales. I'm only curious - how does this notorious murderer run a business from jail? And how is it allowed to go on?

I sent Arias questions on post cards, to the jail's address. She is allowed to receive post cards, but not sealed letters. She can mail out letters. She prints. She signs her name "Jodi Ann Arias."

I corresponded with Arias six times in the past few months. At first, she limited my questions to her art. Arias set only one condition - she doesn't want photos of her letters in the newspaper.

Later, she said I could ask "more questions," and, "if things work out, I'd be open to the possibility of working with you again in the future."

I stuck to her art.

First thing I asked her - is this legal? Are you allowed to keep money from the sale of your drawings?

Arias said she gives her drawings to an "art administrator" who manages her website. She said she doesn't keep any of the money from the sales.

"The money goes to other causes, including charity. Some goes to my family, who is struggling badly like so many. There is a mistaken belief that me selling my art is somehow unethical or unlawful. That's false. Everything I do with regard to my art is well within the law," Arias wrote.

"As for ethics, were it unethical for convicted people to lawfully earn money, there would be no employment opportunities within the nation's prisons. I was an artist for decades before I derailed my life. I had a business, Jodi Arias Fine Art & Photography, now defunct. Haven't heard this claim before. What I do now is the same concept. Marketing my art is completely lawful and not connected with the deeply regrettable things I've done."

Arizona officials confirm that Arias is not violating any state law by selling her artwork online.

"Inmate Arias is allowed to have pencils and paper. If she wants to draw and give those drawings - we call that 'release her property' - to a third party, she is allowed to do that," said Lt. Brandon Jones of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, which operates Estrella Jail. "She can mail it or give it to a visitor. She doesn't have access to the Internet, but the person she releases her property to can sell it on the Internet."

Currently offered on her website are nine prints ($25 to $50), four original drawings in colored pencil on cardboard ($1,100 to $1,800) and three oil paintings on canvas ($7,000 to $9,000).

Critics and victims' rights advocates say it's ghoulish for murderers in prison to sell artwork or write books, or get paid for interviews. They call the business "murderabilia."

It is possible that the value of Arias' art will go up if she gets the death penalty.

Arias described her drawing style as "predominantly realism with occasional touches of surrealism and the abstract. I've dabbled a little in impressionism. I draw mostly to express myself, which also serves as a release. I generally focus on creating pieces that are stirring, soothing or symbolic to me. Most of my work is self-expressive."

Arias is not allowed to have any paint in her cell, so she draws in graphite and colored pencils. The oil paintings were done before she went to jail in 2008.

"The colored pencils are adequate, but far from ideal. Five years ago, I tried to create paints with water soluble colored pencils but I had no success. Besides, I have no brushes," she wrote.

It takes Arias seven to 12 hours over several days, sometimes weeks, to complete a drawing.

"I have a rigid schedule. It's up to me to structure my day. To be able to draw, both opportunity and inspiration need to be present. I've slowed down. With trial looming, my focus needs to be there. But if I go too long without drawing, the desire to visually express ideas on paper becomes almost a need."

Arias said lights out is "2300" (11 p.m.). She has a night light in her cell. It's bright enough to read and write by, but she doesn't draw after bedtime.

She is not allowed to put drawings on her cell wall - jail rules.

"Last year, one of my drawings was confiscated because it was in another girl's cell, which isn't allowed," she said.

Arias also claimed that "scammers" are selling counterfeit drawings with her forged signature. She authenticates her pieces with a thumbprint on the back. I asked how she does a thumbprint.

"I used to use mascara, now I use an ink pad," she said.

In court Monday, convicted killer Jodi Arias stated that she wants to act as her own attorney in the sentencing retrial.

Acting as her own attorney would put Arias head to head with prosecutor Juan Martinez.

Judge Stephens cautioned Arias that representing herself would not be in her best interest and that she may face the death penalty.

Arias will have the assistance of her current attorneys who will act in an advisory capacity.

A judge ruled Monday that Jodi Arias can represent herself in the upcoming penalty phase of her murder trial, where jurors will decide whether she is put to death for killing her ex-boyfriend.

Arias, 34, was convicted of first-degree murder last year in the 2008 killing of Travis Alexander, but jurors couldn't reach a decision on sentencing. Under Arizona law, while Arias' murder conviction stands, prosecutors have the option of putting on a second penalty phase with a new jury in an effort to secure the death penalty.

Arias, who has long clashed with her defense lawyers and tried to fire them previously, asked Judge Sherry Stephens to let her serve as her own lawyer during the second penalty phase set for Sept. 8. Stephens granted the request but said there would be no delays.

"I do not believe it is in your best interest ... I strongly urge you to reconsider," Stephens told Arias before granting the motion.

Arias will now have the task of arguing a death penalty case just four weeks from now despite having no legal experience and no college degree or high school diploma. Arias got her GED in jail.

Her defense lawyers will remain on as advisory council. They declined to comment on the latest developments. Prosecutors also declined comment.

Experts say the move might not be such a bad idea given the gruesome nature of the crime. Arias admitted killing Alexander at his suburban Phoenix home but said it was self-defense. He was stabbed nearly 30 times, had his throat slit and was shot in the forehead. Prosecutors argued it was premeditated murder carried out in a jealous rage when Alexander wanted to end their affair.

"It's actually probably a good idea to represent herself," said San Francisco-area defense attorney Daniel Horowitz. "She looks like a vicious psychopath with a ridiculous defense."

However, Horowitz noted, the jury "may find her pathetic."

"If she can get just one juror to bond with her on some level, even if they hate her, they're getting to know her, and it's harder to kill someone you know," he said.

The five-month trial that began in January 2013 provided seemingly endless amounts of cable TV and tabloid fodder, including a recorded phone sex call between Arias and the victim, nude photos, bloody crime-scene pictures and a defendant who described her life story in intimate detail over 18 days on the witness stand.

Arias told jurors of an abusive childhood, cheating boyfriends, dead-end jobs, her sexual relationship with Alexander and her contention that he had grown physically violent.

"They thought she was a liar. She was narcissistic. She was arrogant, and it made it easy to convict her," Horowitz said. "But that's a lot different than killing somebody."

Phoenix defense lawyer Mel McDonald, a former Maricopa County judge and federal prosecutor, agreed that Arias doesn't have much to lose.

"I think generally that anybody that represents themselves has a fool for a client, but it also gives her a way, if she's out there making a fool of herself, to maybe invoke some sympathy from a juror," McDonald said.

Arias' feud with her attorneys has been ongoing since early in the case and intensified after she gave a series of media interviews following her conviction in May 2013. Her lawyers have tried to withdraw several times, but the judge has rebuffed their requests.

If the new jury fails to reach a unanimous decision, the death penalty will be removed from consideration. The judge would then sentence Arias to spend her life behind bars or to be eligible for release after 25 years.

Trial followers and friends...by now, u know Jodi is representing herself. I thought maybe to create more delays?..was told by a respected journalist the Judge is NOT allowing anymore delays. Jury selection will begin on the 8th of Sept. The good news is Jodi is not qualified to win against Juan Martinez and IMHO shes signing her death warrant ‪#‎justice4travis‬!!!.
Im being asked by many...yes... I will regularly be attending the trial and will keep you posted on fb & twitter. Im @kimmysblog on twitter and sometimes its easier to quickly update with a tweet.
Honestly...if any of you plan on being in town for the trial...please let me know-- would love to meet you and help you make the visit as easy as possible. Update and explanation on the camera ruling:

1. Video and audio cameras will be recording the penalty phase retrial. These recordings will not be aired pre-verdict.
That means that whilst a rolling camera will record live, we won't see anything until after a verdict is reached by the jury. We will not be able to view online streams in real time and the trial will not be televised.

2. Any live broadcast approved by the court shall have a 15 minute delay.
That is, if media move for live coverage of opening or closing statements, the verdict or witness testimony, they require court approval and the broadcast must be delayed by 15 minutes.

3. #JodiArias has the same rights as other witnesses.
That is, if she moves for her testimony or allocution to not be recorded and the motion is granted, we will only get audio, post verdict.

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - FOX 10 reported earlier this week that convicted killer Jodi Arias is acting as her own attorney. While we wait to find out what that will mean for her in the courtroom we now get an idea of what that means for her behind bars.

"The sheriff was concerned that this was just another attempt by her to manipulate the system," said Chief Mike Olsen.

In jail, it's well known that inmates who act as their own attorneys get some special privileges that other inmates don't get.

Detention officers admit now that Jodi Arias is representing herself she will be treated differently.

"I think she is going to find out she is a little bit more limited than she hoped she was going to be," said Olsen

Right now Arias is confined to her cell 23 hours a day. She is allowed a single half hour visit per week, and she can talk on the phone up to an hour per day.

But now because she is seen as preparing her case she can get up to six visits per week, five of those with court approved witnesses, and there is no set time limit on those visits. It's the same with phone calls, and she will have a list of court approved contacts and can stay on the phone with them as long as the phone is available.

"We will give her time to use the telephone, and do the things she needs to do to represent herself. We don't want to hinder that in any way. However, she will still have to stay within the guidelines and the jail rules," he said.

MCSO Jail Chief Mike Olsen said Jodi's new status may hurt her art dealing business. Some of her pieces are going for several thousand dollars. Olsen said Jodi was moving the art out of jail through her mitigation specialist for her case. But now that she's her own attorney she shouldn't have to send the art anywhere. Despite the few perks, she's getting Jodi Arias is under very close watch.

"She is still a close custody inmate, the highest classification that we have. We're still going to treat her that way, she's been convicted of a crime, the most serious crime there is, she's going to be treated the same way," said Olsen.

The jury that found Arias guilty of murdering former boyfriend Travis Alexander couldn't agree on whether she should get the death penalty or life in prison.

Jury selection for the re-trial begins September 8th.

Update on Kirk Nurmi's petition to withdraw:

Last week, Nurmi filed a motion asking the court for reconsideration [to quit] since he is no longer ethically obliged to stay on the case.

In his motion he stated, "His ethical obligations to Ms. Arias are lessened to the point where these ethical obligations are of significantly lesser import."

He also noted that #JodiArias has repeatedly tried to fire him from the case and that he and Arias could not come to an agreement on a def. strategy for the retrial.

PHOENIX (AP) — Jodi Arias asked a judge Wednesday to postpone the second penalty phase of her murder trial, explaining she would no longer represent herself if one of her two attorneys is allowed to quit the case.

Arias, 34, was convicted of murder last year in the 2008 killing of her ex-boyfriend, but jurors couldn't reach a decision on sentencing, setting the stage for a Sept. 8 retrial to determine her punishment.

Judge Sherry Stephens previously granted Arias' motion to represent herself while her two court-appointed attorneys stay on as advisers.

However, one of those attorneys asked the judge on Wednesday to let him quit the case. Lawyer Kirk Nurmi explained in a motion filed last week that "a completely fractured relationship between counsel (and client) now exists."

Arias has acknowledged killing Travis Alexander at his suburban Phoenix home but said it was self-defense. He was stabbed nearly 30 times, had his throat slit and was shot in the head.

Prosecutors argued it was premeditated murder carried out in a jealous rage when Alexander wanted to end their affair.

The hearing on Wednesday marked the first time Arias had argued her own motions. She spoke softly while seated at a defense table alongside the two lawyers, one of whom occasionally whispered in her ear.

Arias asked for the delay to give her time to interview an expert witness she plans to call to testify and to review evidence.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez vehemently objected, noting the case has dragged on long enough. He said the ruling that allowed Arias to represent herself also said there would be no delays.

"She agreed to those terms," Martinez told the judge.

Arias has tried to fire Nurmi several times, and he has sought to get off the case in the past after frequent clashes with Arias over strategy.

In response to his latest request, Arias told the judge that she would no longer serve as her own attorney and would allow her other lawyer, Jennifer Willmott, to argue the case if Nurmi was permitted to quit.

"As far as I know, he has not done anything" lately to assist in the defense, Arias told the judge.

Arguments were then closed to the media and public, and it was not immediately clear if the judge issued a ruling.

The prosecutor and defense attorneys left court without comment.

A hearing is set for Aug. 22 on Arias' motion to postpone the retrial.

Last Wednesday, ‪#‎JodiArias‬ asked Judge Stephens to delay her upcoming sentencing retrial.
The bottom line is that Jodi Arias wants more time before the retrial starts. She's blaming MCSO and says they refused to let an expert witness into jail to talk to her [see post below for the actual handwritten motion filed by Arias].
MCSO said that Arias didn't follow the jail rules.
"She has decided to be her own attorney, that's her business, I run the jails. I have my own policies, she doesn't run the jail," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Arpaio said they don't have a court-approved witness list for Jodi Arias. According to jail rules all witnesses must be on a witness list filed with the court.
"Everybody that comes in talks to her, if it's a witness we want the name, we run it by the court to make sure that person is really a witness and not a visitor," said Arpaio.
Arpaio said there's a good reason for these guidelines when it comes to inmates who act as their own attorney.
"When you deal with witnesses they get special attention, they can talk for 4-5 hours, we cannot monitor the conversation. So people can call for a mistrial, that's why we have this policy, really it's to protect her," he said.
Arias now claims that the expert witness who was turned away cannot come back until the end of the month. So she wants to delay her sentencing retrial until Sept 29.
In court Wednesday, Arias did mention adding and removing people from a witness list. There's no word if it's an old list filed by her old attorneys before Arias decided to represent herself.
She also expressed frustration in trying to interview witnesses and file motions while locked in jail.
Prosecutor Juan Martinez was testy; he hadn't read Arias' motions. He dropped one of his own on Arias' table. And he questioned who Arias' witnesses would be. He didn't get an answer.

Tomorrow is an Evidentiary Hearing for Arias.
She has to present evidence (or argue) as to why she believes it's the Maricopa Sheriff's Dept. FAULT As to why she should be granted her Motion to Continue. They may call the named officer in her own hand written motion that she blamed. Here's some key points........

Last Wednesday at the Arias Hearing, Jodi expressed concerns that she is in need of an extension of time, due to her inability to connect with a crucial witness for her September 8th Penalty Retrial.

Arias was quick to blame the Maricopa Sheriffs Office for this and specifically named an officer in her hand written Motion.

Juan Martinez immediately interrupted during her argument, stating that he wished to hold a hearing in the presence of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, due to her history of UNTRUTHS.
Judge Stephens sided with Juan and stated that she will hear from the Sheriff himself about Arias' claim that she was not able to interview witnesses. "You have nothing for me to PROVE that" was Stephens reply, to Arias' claim that it was the Sheriff's Dept who was stalling her progress.
Arpaio, when contacted, stated that Arias never gave a witness list per policy and regulations. Coincidentally, Juan Martinez' had said the same thing. That Arias was NOT submitting a witness list as required.
Apairo stated all Arias had to do was provide the name so the person could be "approved" visits and placed on the approved visitor's list.

PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona judge on Wednesday granted Jodi Arias' motion to delay the start of her planned Sept. 8 penalty phase retrial.

Arias briefly addressed the judge Wednesday morning before the courtroom was closed to the media and public. The judge then granted Arias' request, setting a new retrial date for Sept. 29.

Defense lawyers and prosecutors declined comment.

Arias, who is now serving as her own attorney, argued that she needed more time to interview an expert witness she plans to call during the retrial.

The 34-year-old former waitress was convicted of murder last year in the 2008 killing of her ex-boyfriend, but jurors couldn't reach a decision on her sentence. Under Arizona law, prosecutors have the option of putting on a second penalty phase with a new jury in an effort to secure a death sentence.

If the new jury fails to reach a unanimous decision, the death penalty will be removed as an option. The judge would then sentence Arias to spend her entire life behind bars or be eligible for release after 25 years.

Arias has acknowledged killing Travis Alexander at his suburban Phoenix home, but she said it was self-defense. He was stabbed nearly 30 times, had his throat slit and was shot in the head.

Prosecutors argued it was premeditated murder carried out in a jealous rage when Alexander wanted to end their affair.

Judge Sherry Stephens previously granted Arias' motion to serve as her own attorney after conflicts arose with one of her two court-appointed lawyers over trial strategy. Attorney Kirk Nurmi then sought to quit the case, noting in a motion that "a completely fractured relationship between counsel (and client) now exists."

Stephens denied his request. Both lawyers will remains on as advisers.

A hearing in the case is set for Sept. 4.
