SAGINAW (CBSDFW.COM) - The Saginaw girl, whose nude body was found bound and covered with a tarp, has been identified as six-year-old Alanna Gallagher, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. Her time of death is listed as 7:33 p.m., not long before neighborhood kids found her body. The six-year-old had just celebrated a birthday on June 12, less than three weeks before she was murdered.
CBS 11 has also confirmed the items seized from the family’s car – including plastic bags, toilet paper, a blue/gray colored tarp, and different colored tape, including red. Alanna’s body was found bound with red tape more than a mile from her home. FBI agents left the list of items taken from the family car clearly visible through the window.
Alanna’s father, Karl Gallagher spoke moments before a scheduled news conference pleading for the public to help with the investigation.

Meanwhile, chilling 911 calls following the discovery of Alanna’s body have been released. In one, a caller tells the dispatcher that a dead body has been found. “I think it’s a little girl in plastic bag someone dropped it off.” Then continues, saying, “I haven’t even opened it all the way up but I can see the legs and everything . There’s a belt around it. Tape.”
The discovery of Alanna’s body has shaken the small community. Stephanie Basco and her friends dropped off a teddy bear at a growing memorial for the little girl.

“We had seen her playing and wanted to show our respect. She is such a small baby,” said Basco.
Neighbor Sergio Lopez said, “It’s saddest thing to see a little girl not to experience life – someone took that away from her – it’s the worst thing ever.”
The girl was often seen playing unsupervised outside, according to neighbors. Police say they are talking to the family and at this time, everyone is considered a suspect.

The FBI and local police are questioning the parents of a six-year-old girl who was found horrifically murdered, naked with her hands and feet bound, under a tarp less than two miles from her house in a quiet Fort Worth suburb on Monday night.

Investigators say they are trying to figure out exactly when the girl was taken from her home in Saginaw, Texas, on Monday night. They are also still searching for a red pickup truck with a green splotch that could be involved in the girl's horrific murder.

Neighbors identified the child as Alanna Gallagher. They recalled how the curious girl with 'curly brown hair and a constant smile' loved to play alone outside in her front yard - but was cautious to always tell strangers they had to keep away.

More than 100 people showed up for a candle-light vigil at a nearby Methodist church Tuesday night to pray for little Alanna. Residents also started a make-shift memorial on a curb near where her body was found. By Tuesday night, the line of stuffed animals, flowers and cards stretched half the block.

Searching: Police executed a search warrant on the girl's parents' home on Tuesday morning. The house is located about a mile and a half from where the body was found
'She seemed smarter than the average (child her age), just because of the questions she’d always ask,' neighbor John Janus told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

'And her parents are nice and very, very smart people. They like books. The last time I was in their home, the front room looked like a library.'

Mr Janus said he took his children with Alanna and her father on Halloween for the last few years.

'She was a precious little girl. I usually just saw her on her scooter,' neighbor Kay Stief told the Dallas Morning News.

Many neighbors say they often saw her playing alone - either in her yard or on the neighborhood streets near her house. However, in the quiet suburban neighborhood, they said they usually didn't think too much of it.

The FBI has joined the investigation after the horrifying discovery. No children from the area have been reported missing, so the case starts with few leads.

Police and the FBI searched the girl's home for several hours on Tuesday, carrying out boxes of documents and computers.

A police spokesman said they were interviewing the parents - though at they moment they were only trying to confirm the timeline of when the girl was abducted from her home.

The girl's body was found about 7.30pm on Monday by 14-year-old Owen Whiddon, who was riding his scooter through his neighborhood in Saginaw - about a mile and a half from where the girl lived.

He said he saw a tarp in the middle of an intersection, tightly rapped with a belt.

'I said, "Well, let’s pick it up, let’s put it in the trash can," you know, because we’re a clean community,' he told the Morning News.

What he found shocked him to his core. He ran back home and told his mother: 'Mom, it’s a little girl.'

Whiddon's friend Josh Smith, 18, told KXAS-TV that he is will never be the same after seeing the girl dead.

'At first, I just thought it was some rubber stuff at first, and then I got a closer look and all I saw was a bag and I saw some hair sticking out and so, I was like, "Oh my God! It’s a girl!"' he said.

'And that’s when I dropped to my knees and just started crying.'

Katie Whiddon, Owen's mother, told KTVT-TV that she didn't believe her son at first. When he convinced her he was telling the truth, she called 911.

'I was panicking. I was freaked out. How can somebody hurt a little girl?' she said.

Ms Whiddon told KDFW-TV that the girl was naked except for a bear of purple underwear and her hands and feet were bound. She had a plastic grocery bag over her head.

Police say they are still not sure when the girl's body was dumped. Some neighbors said they noticed the tarp in the road about noon. Others say they didn't see it until about 7pm.

Neighbors said her father started looking for her about 9pm Tuesday - an hour and a half after he body was found. They recalled him going door-to-door asking if anyone had seen his daughter.

'You could tell on his face, he didn’t know what to do,' Mr Janus, the neighbor, told the Star-Telegram.

'It was like he was in shock and that he didn’t know where else to look.'

Another neighbor, Derinda, told the Morning News that she saw Alanna's mother around that time, too. The neighbor said she didn't seem very worried about her daughter.

Derinda recalls the mother saying: 'I bet she’s over at a neighbor’s home. She always does this.'

About 9.15pm, Mr Janus said he saw Alanna's father walk over to two police cruisers that had parked on his street. He believes that is when the parents reported their young daughter missing.

Alanna's two other siblings are staying with family friends while their parents are being questioned by police.

Neighbors say they noticed a red pickup truck with a green splotch on the rear passenger-side panel in the neighborhood shortly before the body was found.

Investigators believe the driver may have something to do with the body and have asked anyone with information about the truck to come forward.

SAGINAW –– An FBI receipt viewed by WFAA Wednesday revealed investigators confiscated plastic bags, various colored tapes and tarp in their probe into the death of a young girl found dead Monday on a Saginaw residential road.



The list was written onto an FBI search warrant receipt visible on the front seat of a car registered to the owner of the home where the victim lived. A partial list of items taken included:

   Walmart plastic bags
   Charmin Ultra Soft pack
   Blue/Gray tarp
   Red, White, Camouflage tape
   Electrical tape
   Citizens Academy card
   Copy of Social Security card

Two teens, 14-year-old Wesley Whiddon and 18-year-old John Smith, said they found the body of the girl while attempting to move what they believed was a bag of trash. The teens said the girl was wrapped in tarp and her feet and hands were bound with tape and a Walmart plastic bag covered her head.

Wednesday afternoon, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the girl as Alanna Gallagher, who was reported missing Monday evening. She turned six last month. Her cause of death has still not been made public.

Hours before the medical examiner's ruling, Saginaw police released 911 calls made by the Whiddon family in which the caller described the tarp.

"I haven't opened it all the way up, but I can see the legs and everything," the caller said. "There's a belt around [the tarp], tape."

Police said the girl's parents have been cooperative and are distraught over the loss of their daughter.

Gallagher was found at the intersection of Cindy Ln. and Round Rock Dr. at about 7:30 p.m. Monday. The discovery site was more than one mile north of the victim's home on Babbling Brook Dr., where parents reported their daughter missing at about 9:15 p.m. Monday.

FBI and Saginaw police spent Tuesday investigating both scenes and were seen removing items from the parents' home. Neither Saginaw police nor the FBI would specifically comment on items collected during their 22-hour search.

Police said they are still searching for a red pickup truck spotted by witnesses near the scene. Witnesses told police the truck had a green paint splatter on the right rear panel.

The girl's father, Karl Gallagher, made a brief statement to the media Wednesday.
"Today, the [medical examiner] determined that [Alanna] has died," he said. "We urge anyone with information about her to contact the police. Please, respect our privacy during this time of tragedy."

"I can assure the community of Saginaw and all surrounding areas that you're perfectly safe in this community," said Ofc. Damon Ing, Saginaw police spokesman. "At times, unfortunately, we're struck with circumstances such as this, but I believe that this is going to be an isolated case."
The FBI and the North Texas Major Case Investigative Team, which is made up of law enforcement agencies from across the region, are aiding the Saginaw Police Department, Ing said. Two tip lines have been set up at 682.888.3682 and 682.888.3684 and are manned 24 hours a day.
Anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction stands to be awarded $10,000, Ing said.

I wonder if they were taking Alanna's body somewhere to bury it and it just fell off the truck, Nite? A 6 year old wouldn't weigh much and they may not have noticed if that tarp slipped off. Once they got where they were going, they probably had no idea when she'd fallen off.

Or maybe after she was killed the family had someone else take the body for them? The plastic bag fastened over her head says to me that this was no accident. That poor little girl.

Somehow I missed this story. I agree with both of you, sure sounds like it's family involved. Sam you might be on the dime, re: body possibly falling off vehicle into the middle of the street, I find it hard to believe someone would just put her there on purpose, they were probably on their way to hide her. Residents in Gallagher's neighborhood found the tarp in the middle of the street and, believing it to be garbage, looked underneath. Soon afterward, they called 911 to report the girl's body. They said she was found nude with her hands and feet bound and a bag over her head.

Her body was found at about 7:30 p.m. Her parents reported her missing at about 9 p.m., and neighbors say her father told them she was last seen at about 5 p.m.

Ing said that investigators do not know if Gallagher's body was intentionally left in the road or if it fell off a vehicle.

Saginaw police also do not know if Gallagher was abducted, he said. Her cause of death has not yet been determined, and investigators are still trying to establish a timeline of what led up to her death, he said.

Police believe the slaying is an isolated case, Ing said.

"I can assure the community of Saginaw and all surrounding areas that you're perfectly safe in this community," he said.

Saginaw police requested the FBI assist in their investigation. A FBI Evidence Response Team collected evidence and took photographs of the crime scene early Tuesday morning.

According to a FBI receipt of seized evidence, federal agents took a blue-gray tarp, electrical tape, and Wal-Mart plastic bags from a car registered to the victim's parents. The car is parked on the street in front of where the 6-year-old victim lived. Agents also searched the girl's home, where she lived with two siblings, her parents and another man.

The girl's uncle told NBC 5 that his niece's family had recently gone on a camping trip.

The family is not suspected in Gallagher's death, Ing said. Her family has been talking with counselors at the police department.

"We have many leads to follow -- not necessarily suspects individually -- but, at this time, the family is not suspected," Ing said. "We are basically trying to help them through their time of grief."

No arrests have been made in the case and no suspects have been named.

Gallagher's aunt, Teresa McDaniel said the child was very loved by her parents and siblings.

"I just broke down and cried," she said. "There was no speculation as to whether it was her, not her. When I read how she was found, I just broke down."

"I break down and cry when I hear one of these stories on the news, but to find out that's my niece -- that's something that you can't hold on to anymore," McDaniel said.

Gallagher was a "bubbly and always happy" kindergarten student at Willow Creek Elementary, the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district said in a statement Wednesday. The district's thoughts and prayers go our to her family and friends, the district said.

"We will continue to support our students, parents and staff that have been deeply affected by the events of recent days," Superintendent Jim F. Chadwell said. "It is imperative at this difficult time that we come together as a community to share our grief."

Police are looking for a red pickup truck with a splash of green paint that they believe may be connected to Gallagher's death but are also seeking any other information in the case.

There was the mom, her 2 husbands, and 3 kids - counting Alanna. I saw on the mom's blog that she had the 9 year old girl playing Worlds of Warcraft online - so who knows what all these kids were exposed to? A lot of adults play WOW, and I wouldn't think it was suitable for a 9 year old.

It could be LE is just telling everyone they are not suspects while they investigate them though.

On July 7, 2013, it was announced a funeral for slain Saginaw, Texas girl, Alanna Gallagher, is slated for this week, according to Star-Telegram.

The service will take place at 11 am on Thursday, July 11, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Richland Hills. Following the funeral, Alanna will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery.

The six year old’s nude body was found in an intersection at around 7:30 pm on July 1. She was wrapped in a tarp and reportedly had a plastic bag placed over her head.

French website 24 Matins is reporting her hands and feet were tied with a red ribbon, however, 20 Minutes, also a French site, reported it as red tape.

20 Minutes also reports that 14 year old Owen Whiddon saw the tarp in the road and thought it was trash. When he investigated further, he discovered Alanna’s body inside.

Earlier in the week, police announced they have no suspects in the case, but also noted no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

Irish Central reports Alanna’s parents are not considered suspects by police.

THV 11 reported that on Thursday the FBI removed plastic bags, toilet paper, black electrical tape, a blue-gray tarp, and various other colors of tape from a family car parked in front of the girl’s home on Thursday.

The parents of a six-year-old girl who was found dead under a tarp in the street are in a polyamorous relationship with another man - but police said none of the three are prime suspects in her death.
Alanna Gallagher was found dead last week a mile-and-a-half from the Saginaw, Texas home she shared with her parents Karl and Laura Gallagher, a second man - Miles McDaniel - and her siblings.
Laura Gallagher wrote on her blog that she and Karl Gallagher were in a 'polyamorous' relationship with 37-year-old McDaniel, and he is named as one of Alanna's parents in her obituary.

Investigators probing her death seized more than 100 items from the family's home, but said none of the three parents are prime suspects. However, Saginaw Police Chief Roger Macon added that no one has been eliminated as a suspect,The Star Telegram reported.

Officers took items from the home as well as from three vehicles parked outside.

A search warrant shows they were looking for red duct tape, packaging, Walmart plastic bags, trash bags, men's belts sized 38-44 and any material that could be used to bind.

Macon added that officers were not judging the parents' polyamorous relationship.
'The Gallagher/McDaniel family considers Miles as a parent, and we are being considerate of their lifestyle; it's not our place to offer judgment on them,' Macon said.

'As with any criminal investigation, each of the people closest to the victim is being considered, and their actions investigated.'
Police say the Gallaghers and McDaniel were all home while Alanna played outside alone on Monday evening.

This kid just graduated from HS! Definitely something going on with him, besides the obvious weed smoking. Hope that LE in that area is on top of things!

Going through LG's face book there is a post where she talks about Alanna had been in the shallow end of the worship pool aka swimming pool and had been holding her breath and going under and popping back up. THen she says she took Alanna and Jamie deep in the water where they had never been before with her supporting them then took them back to the shallow end. Her next statement is rather strange. She says she noticed Alanna popped under the water looking about the same as she had been except she realized she was doing it in deeper water than she had been.
Not sure how this makes sense and how Alanna go to the deeper part of the water and where was mom when she noticed her daughter was in trouble.
Mom says she had a feeling Alanna was in trouble. She reached for her and pulled her up and the had a sputtering, coughing, burping child flinging her arms and legs around her. Yeah, she'd been in trouble. Eeek
This incident happened June 26th. One week before her murder.

That's the first I've heard about a swimming pool, but LE did take water samples from the family's hot tub.
I'm going to see what I can find.


I can't imagine someone making a post about watching their child experience a near drowning and just watching it happen.
As a former Lifeguard I know that when someone drowning grabs and clings to the nearest person it's because their basic instinct is the fear of dying.
So very sad to know that this child was in fear for her life, and inevitably had reason to be.

That was at their church. They have a worship pool, Nite.

I on the other hand, would believe that if some member of the family were responsible for her murder they would have tried concealing her body somehow and not just leave it on the street for anyone to find.

Tonight I was going through some photos on Laura's blog. This woman loved her children despite near accidents. Those children were well taken care of, well dressed, happy, and these were pictures with Miles in them. I know the time line of when Alanna was last at home is a little fishy and why the parents weren't concerned about where she was is all the more strange. They could have been looking for her from 5 till 9 but the public is not being told so. If this is a random crime it involves someone living in that neighborhood. After going to the web site of the teenage boy who takes great pride in taking pictures of him smoking dope and getting high, I have to wonder if it is possible he and a friend had seen Alanna and possible talked to her before during the summer months and she walked away with them. She wouldn't have screamed or tried to get away if she knew them. The tarp in the road seemed to close to the curb to have fallen out of a car. All the items recovered from the van were from when they went to Church Camp. If the Gallaghers failed to lock their cars, these individuals would have seen the tarp and other items in the van. Taken what they needed to hide the crime they committed. One person didn't act alone. The tarp looks more like is was placed in the street. I suspect by know LE knows who did it.

I have to wonder what the true relationship was between the three adults. If their way of thinking gave them the ok to have relationships with their children and they considered it a normal act. It may be just me but it seemed like the wife was drawn more to Alanna's father. I wondered about the teens who found her too. She was right out in front of a house. Odd that people on that street were getting home from work and no one but the kids went and check out the tarp. Story just doesn't line up.

A puzzle to solve. If Karl gets home at 8 pm. the night Alanna went missing. Did he not notice police in the area then. Did he travel the route where her body was found? Neither Laura or Miles called Karl to tell him Alanna was missing instead he arrives home and discovers at 9 that night Alanna was not in the house? Does Karl have a cell phone? Could he have been reached at work? Were the other two children in bed already? Kids are always around to greet the Daddy or Momma after they come home from work? Well, some kids that is. So Laura and Miles were home between 5 and 8 when Karl made it home then the three were together one hour before Karl goes to find Alanna. Does this mean Alanna was not seen for over 4 hours? Seems as the bio father Miles should have already searched for her and saw to her safety after it started getting dark. A nice, loving Christian family with a smoke screen life style. Does anyone find it odd that Laura had Maggie busy on the computer that day with war games Is this the usual daily activity? Or something new? and Karl played Candy Crush before or after he went to work. What time did Karl leave for work that day. What time did Karl get off of work between his drive to Watauga from his work place? Did Laura and Miles have visitors from the dating site over during the day? Laura said all 3 of them had to be involved in dating others? Did she break her own rule? Three days after the death of Alanna, Miles was on the dating site surfing. So soon, your child has been murdered and he's surfing for a date? Really?
In Karl's closing statement to the press he says, May Jesus hold Alanna in his arms. May God have mercy upon us all. Did he mean, May God treat us all with kindness and forgiveness. Mercy upon us all sounds like he is pointing fingers at the other two parents. Yeah I'm out of my league with this particular topic! Just thinking out loud. Personally, I think Miles is going to turn states evidence against Karl and blab what really went down. Or the other way around. Karl was at work? Miles was at home with access to Alanna.


I make jokes that I was born with a list of questions in my pudgy little hand... I think you and I are going to get along GREAT!
I thought when the phrase was coined "Inquiring minds want to know" they were referring to me.

This case is just insane. All the elements of child neglect was there. Evidence of a crime scene was evident. Dating sites, teaching the kids violent video games open doors to predators and putting the children at risk. What was going on with the other two children while Alanna was outside? Was the child locked out? I heard rumor they are getting ready to make an arrest. I hope this is not a case of revenge where the relationship turned sour and it was taken out on the child. Reading over her journal I'm left with the impression that her love for Miles was stronger than her love for Karl I suspect there are two people involved with the murder of Alanna. It also wouldn't put it past them to have child sex porn on their computers.

Just now catching up on my reading and therefore just learned of this case. I am so very saddened for the loss of this precious little girl. I have nothing to offer in this case, just wanted to express my sorrow here.

Authorities investigating the unsolved slaying of a 6-year-old Saginaw girl on Friday released surveillance photos of two cars in hopes identifying possible witnesses.

Investigators are asked for the public’s help to help them find out who was driving the cars pictured in the photos as they seek to solve the slaying of Alanna Gallagher.

“Repeated neighborhood interviews and canvases have allowed investigators to approximately recreate Alanna’s last day, but it is believed that others may have witnessed something that could be pertinent to solving this crime,” officials said in a news release.

Two teenagers discovered Alanna’s body July 1 wrapped in a tarp in the middle of the street about a mile from her house in the 600 block of Babbling Brook Drive. Her hands and feet were bound, and her head was covered with a bag.

Witnesses also described seeing red pickup with softball-size green paint splatter on the rear passenger side. It is now clear what connection, if any, that pickup may have to the slaying.

Anyone with information about the cars or who may have information about the slaying has been asked to call 682-888-3682. Callers can remain anonymous. A $10,00 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The body of Alanna Gallagher, age six, was found about three weeks ago under a tarp in the middle of a quiet suburban street in Saginaw, Texas. Early reports indicate that her body was already beginning to decompose. Her head was covered with a grocery bag, and her hands and ankles were bound with tape. This new report shares some updated information about how the child was found, and it just adds another gruesome element to the case. She was reportedly found stuffed into a black garbage bag.
Who murdered this innocent child, and why haven't they been located by police yet? This case is mysterious and frightening, even though officials claim that this is an isolated crime. They have refused to label Alanna's parents as "prime suspects," but have focused much of their investigation on the family of three adults—all in a polyandrous relationship.

It should be noted that the parents did not report the little girl missing until after her body had been located approximately a mile from their home. Since the beginning of this case they have been under intense scrutiny, and for obvious reasons. Officials removed several questionable items from their home including leg and arm restraints and several pieces of electronic equipment—which detectives have declared may store evidence of a crime. What kind of crimes are detectives alleging the parents may be guilty of that they have stored within their electronics?

Are surveillance photos taunting the killer(s)?

Investigators released some security stills late this week depicting a dark colored car (black or possibly deep black-blue), and are asking the public for help in identifying the driver. It doesn't seem reasonable that officials would need help in identifying the make and model of the vehicle, so it probably wouldn't be very hard to do searches for all recorded owners of this car type in the Saginaw or Fort Worth areas—so why would they truly need the public's help? Is it at all possible that this is a sort of checkmate against the likely killer(s) of Alanna Gallagher?

This person is roaming the streets freely, going unpunished for a truly horrific crime. If this person sees his/her/their vehicle plastered all over the media via security footage, they may be more inclined to act out suspiciously or even go willingly to detectives.
