ORLANDO, Fla (Reuters) - Florida authorities asked a judge on Friday to require Casey Anthony, the young mother acquitted of killing her toddler, to pay back more than $500,000 spent investigating the child's disappearance.

But attorneys for the 25-year-old Anthony, who is not at the hearing in Orlando, are questioning law enforcement's accounting of expenses.

Anthony was acquitted in July of killing her 2-year-old Caylee, whose disappearance in 2008 sparked a nationwide search. At the time, Casey Anthony falsely claimed her daughter had been kidnapped by a nanny.

The toddler's skeletal remains were later found in woods near the Anthony family's home. Anthony's defense team argued at trial that Caylee died in an accidental drowning in the family's backyard pool.

A jury found Anthony guilty of misdemeanor charges of lying to detectives during the investigation, and the state wants to recoup the costs of investigating the false kidnapping claim.

In court on Friday, defense attorney Cheney Mason challenged some of the invoices submitted to Judge Belvin Perry.

Mason pointed to a time sheet from an Orange County Sheriff's employee for 1,100 hours worked over one 15-day period, a mathematical impossibility that added $32,000 to the reimbursement claim.

The defense also is questioning whether claimed expenses relate to Anthony's lies or the larger murder investigation.

Anthony is living in an undisclosed location while serving a year of probation for a 2010 check fraud case.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's defense filed new court papers Monday asking Judge Belvin Perry to limit costs he may impose on her.

They argue those costs should be limited to actual efforts made in relation to the charges for which she was actually convicted.

Four state agencies have asked Perry to impose more than a half million dollars in costs of investigating

How much should Casey Anthony have to pay for lying to the cops?

Judge Perry could make a decision at any time.

Monday afternoon, her defense team made a counteroffer.

The state attorney’s office thinks Casey should pay back $517,000.

The defense thinks it should be just $200.

In a brief filed by Anthony’s defense, attorney Liz Fryer says that the statutory limit is $50 per conviction.

A couple weeks ago, there was a lengthy hearing with a number of witnesses who took the stand to justify expenses that came out of the Casey Anthony case.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation and the Orange County Sheriff's Office all said they incurred big expenses while investigating the case.

Casey's defense team says State prosecutors failed to present evidence as to which cost was related to which count of lying.

They said Judge Perry would essentially be ignoring the law if he ordered Casey to pay more than $50 per count.

She was convicted on four counts.

Judge Perry has until September 22 to decide.

The defense is already appealing those four misdemeanor convictions.

Even if Judge Perry doesn't go their way, they'll be able to fight it again with the Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Anthony Found Guilty Of Lying To Law Enforcement Agencies

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A judge rules that Casey Anthony has to reimburse law enforcement agencies nearly $100,000 for lying to authorities about the disappearance of her daughter, Caylee.

Judge Belvin Perry announced the ruling on Thursday.

Anthony must pay the Florida Department of Law Enforcement $61,505.12; the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation $10,283.90; and the Orange County Sheriff's Office $25,837.96.

She also has to pay $50 to the state of Florida for the cost of prosecuting the misdemeanor convictions.

According to the order, Anthony may have to pay more to the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Perry asked to receive more detailed expense reports from the agency by 4 p.m. Monday.

Anthony, 25, was found not guilty of murder in the death of Caylee, whose remains were found in December 2008. Caylee was reported missing in July 2008, about a month after she was last seen alive.

In opening statements, Anthony's lead defense attorney Jose Baez said Caylee drowned in the Anthony family swimming pool in June 2009.

Anthony, 25, is currently serving one year of probation on a check fraud conviction. Her whereabouts are unknown.

A judge has ruled that Casey Anthony should be responsible for paying more than $97,000 toward the costs associated with the investigation into her missing daughter.

Judge Belvin Perry issued the ruling today. Anthony, who was acquitted of murder in July, has been ordered to pay the following:

•$61,505.12 to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement

•$10,0283.90 to the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation

•$25,837.96 to the Orange County Sheriff's Office

•$50 to the State Attorney's Office.

The total comes to $97,676.98.

The costs were incurred while law-enforcement searched for her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, between July 15 and Sept 29, 2008.

Oh what does it matter, how will she ever pay back anything, including her own IRS bill, when she does not work, has been instructed not to try to work while shes on probation in Orange County for 1 year. She's in hiding and someone is paying for everything for her, housing, food, utilities, Drs who apparently make housecalls, and probably even a car, computer, cell phone, and all the little extras Casey is used to and considers herself entitled to have. Makes me sick.....puke......

A Florida judge on Friday increased the reimbursement costs Casey Anthony must pay to investigators for searching for her missing 2-year-old daughter three years ago.

Judge Belvin Perry added another $119,000 to the bill she owes four law enforcement agencies in central Florida, bringing the total to more than $217,000. That's still short of the $500,000 prosecutors were seeking.

The additional amount comes from the Orange County Sheriff's Office providing the judge with more details about their costs. The judge said in the earlier order that the sheriff's office hadn't sufficiently broken down the costs of its investigation from mid-July through September 2008.

Anthony was acquitted in July on charges of murdering her daughter, Caylee. But the 25-year-old was convicted of four misdemeanor counts of lying to authorities. She told officers a baby sitter had kidnapped the child. Authorities later learned the baby sitter never existed.

The costs only cover the missing person investigation and not the homicide investigation.

Anthony, who was declared indigent by the court so taxpayers paid for her defense, has appealed her misdemeanor convictions.

The judge said that Anthony's payment obligations will be a civil judgment, meaning her creditors will have to sue to collect any money she earns from a book deal or the rights to her story. If she ever tries to buy a house, they will be able to put a lien on it.

Anthony currently is serving probation at an undisclosed location in Florida for unrelated check fraud charges.

I did not watch Dr. Phil but I have seen clips on other shows of the Anthonys' interview.

IMHO, I think George has finally located his balls, but just hasn't regained custody of them. Cindy's sis-in-law calls it like she sees it, and she says Cindy's an idiot, and is the man of her house.

I think Cindy is holding onto George right now because she has nobody else. Maybe someday he'll wake up and smell the coffee.
